It's a different well of anger. And I can't actually discern from thorek if his anger is aimed towards kragg too
Preferably I would have talked to kragg first

I vaguely recall a conversation between him and Mathilde in which Kragg disdains Thorek for wasting time on politics and connections instead of focusing 24/7 on runecraft.Kragg has the political opinions of an actual lump of stone, which is to say none. He is too obsessed over his craft to care much about the inner workings of the guild.
Voting thoughts and reactions and such later, but for now-
My recollection of Gilding of limbs in Divided Loyalties converts only the skin? I.e. Johann's arm is still flesh and blood 'inside'? Not completely solid gold.
I know it's been said we can reattach his old one if necessary, but just wanting to understand before going in how messy and... organic this amputation is going to be.
This is exactly what he said:I vaguely recall a conversation between him and Mathilde in which Kragg disdains Thorek for wasting time on politics and connections instead of focusing 24/7 on runecraft.
Kragg seems to be under the impression that Runecraft and politics should be separate? Well that's certainly a point of view. One that very few can afford to have, including himself. He can do whatever he wants because of his immense skill and sheer stubborness, but not everyone can be him. Any organisation is going to have politics, and there's no problem with getting ahead of it."Good. Spent too long cooped up, that one." You refrain from commenting on the centuries that Kragg has spent ensconced in his workshop. "Thinks the world revolves around him. Spends more time on politics than Runecraft, I'd wager. Neither one thing nor t'other."
I'm more interesting in if Johann would have to re-gild his arm upon reattachment.Voting thoughts and reactions and such later, but for now-

Their approaches to Runecraft are different, so I'm not sure whether any kind of relevant comparison between them can be made. Thorek doesn't hesitate to search for new applications and maybe even new knowledge, hence why Mathilde was forced to go to him for practical applications for AV. Kragg, on the other hand, believes that there no such "new" things worth learning about and that the only important things are lost masterworks and lore that can hopefully be recovered and/or reverse-engineered.It does mean that Kragg ends up superior to Thorek in terms of Runecraft specifically.
(Vote to) try it and find out?I'm more interesting in if Johann would have to re-gild his arm upon reattachment.
We know that gilding only lasts until death and that the gold used reappears afterwards, but if you cut off a golden limb does it "die"? If it does, how long a timeframe do you have? And if it doesn't, why not? Is there a connection between the cut-off limb and the original wielder and could we use this to build a fully functional Gold Wizard Automaton by sticting gilded bodyparts together and bringing it to life?
I don't think I understand what the modifier 'conceptual' is signifying here. The transmuted skin looks like gold but is perfected? And fed by un-gilded blood vessels and such? It's conceptual gold. It functions as idealized flesh and there's still muscle and blood underneath.
Maybe you could keep it in some sort of enchanted metal solution to pickle it, so to speak? Shouldn't be too hard, you'd basically just need to make sure it's constantly ensconced in Chamon.I'm more interesting in if Johann would have to re-gild his arm upon reattachment.

It does mean that Kragg ends up superior to Thorek in terms of Runecraft specifically. But in the end, the sheer breadth of apprentices Thorek teaches and the amount of stuff he gets involved in results in him changing the world far more frequently than Kragg.

Not sure if that's the reason why Kragg ends up superior.
Kragg was old enough to be a Living Ancestor centuries before Thorek was born, he's was a famed Runelord a thousand years ago when the Liber Mortis was penned and he's only gotten better since. It is not surprising that Kragg is best when he has centuries of practice on everyone else.
