I don't think that'll fly - at least not if we want Melkoth's bill to go on Thorgrim's credit card. Boney has ruled that Dwarfs consider learning an existing skill/ability to be much more valid as preparation than trying to invent something new in only a few short months, and even if they did allow that, there's no way they'd be willing to pay for the groundwork of a spell that wouldn't be finished in time for the expedition.
Then you miss the premise for this entire argument: we can still request him to help with Fog Path, he already even knows the modified sky walk so he is the best bet for it.

While he is here, we have his time regardless, so if we were to work on something extremely in his wheelhouse, like Ulgu battlemagic, he'd help.

They'd be paying for more help with the fog path spell, which is a clear and legitimate expenditure (and, even without rules-lawyering, not actually embezzling; we didn't get his help this turn, but we were seriously expecting need to, and the next step should be even harder than this one was).

It'd just be taking advantage of his presence to also get some more help for something else on the side, without any additional cost (he gets payed by the...semester, apparently).

Nope. There was an AN on the matter right in the update.
I'll admit, I forgot that. At the same time though, it says he didn't help because he wasn't needed. And sure, rolling high on recreating a lesser spell ends with us not needing him, but I do very much so expect to need that help when creating a brand new, Untested theory at Battlemagic level even if we do roll high. Especially if he's here for that.

Form the start, the costs for bringing wizards are "to help for six months, with expectation of sharing credit".

That's why we had him assist with MMM and would have had him assist with the Path if it was needed.

At this point, he is legitimately the best choice as he already learned Optmized Sky Walk, anyone else would require time just to get familiar with a very twisty and complex spell, personal to Mathilde.

you know what, for the hell of it.

The 'how did Settra get a title, and how good of a title is it game.'

1: Great King: made Nehekhara a unified kingdom, the first king of the first dynasty 10/10 very accurate. (as long has you don't mix up 'great' and 'nice')

2: The Imperishable: fair enough, a bit on the nose if he got it after he came back 5/10, but slam dunk if he had the name before the immortality business 10/10.

3: Khemrikhara: I think this is just another way to say 'high king' so... 6/10 redundant.

4: The Great King of Nehekhara: very redundent 3/10

5: King of Kings: ... 1/10

now the next person does 5 names.

Well, it'll be interesting to see at the very least, although I'll warn you that my WHF knowledge is basically nonexistant.

6. Opener of the Way - No idea personally. 1/10 for that.
7. Wielder of the Divine Flame - His early days led to a fair bit of miracles that were attributed to the gods. Likely a reference to that. 8/10.
8. Punisher of Nomads - Was the first true king of Nehekhara, likely wound up punishing the nomads that didn't join up. 3/10 due to the next title.
9. The Great Unifier - Unified Nehekhara and began the First Dynasty. 10/10 perfectly accurate.
10. Commander of the Golden Legion - Well, the wiki says his chariot was gold and he commanded a Legion. Probably that? 5/10 since it sounds cool.

Next person does 5 names as well. :V

[X] [ROMANCE] The Ice Dragon of Karag Zilfin

The dragon suitably impressed me, plus I like the light/shadow dichotomy. Besides, the high-quality pages of the books these nerds love so much are a little bit of black on a lot of white, just they would be.
(I'd also vote for Johann, but I would feel weird pursuing romance with multiple entities at the same time).

look, i know this is your pet idea, (I'm not one who can throw shade when it comes to pet ideas.)

but its not selling at this time. there is just no way it will be in a satisfying state before we are off.

even the sword style will at least get development point along as its started.

killer fog is just something that will be setting their until we get back.

I think the argument is to keep Melkoth, but assign the Coin elsewhere like the Robes, as his tutelage will likely be enough to avoid the worst of botches.
Oh, I see, fair point.

However, working with making an Ulgu platform is one thing. A fog that melts people en-mass or chokes the life out of them seems to have rather direr consequences for severe failure.

The coin can mitigate Nat 1s: we'd have lost a hand to those shysh kebabs if it weren't for it.

Melkoth can help a lot if shit goes wrong, but he ain't a god.

Also, a higher quality foundation could mean the differences between being useable at FC or BM after the staff discount, for example. Or the only way we find to make it work has it needing Cataclysm levels of magic, discounted to just High End BM by the staff, at which point it'd have been better to learn Pit of Shades.

*Melkoth is not a god*

Have Johann and Max taken the Gold equivalent of the Anti-Chaos classes Mathilde recently attended? Max only just made Magister so it's a fair possibility he's not heard of them and won't know to go unless prompted.

11:Sacred of Appearance- classic drawing parallels between gods and kings but it really doesn't hold up now that he is a bag of bones 3/10
12:Bringer of Light could be related to magical skill or a more poetic bringing the light of civilization 9/10
13:Father of Hawks cool title suggests that he was responsible for the domestication of hawks 8/10
14:Builder of Cities what it says on the tin probably was the first human to do so in mass so bonus for that 7/10
15: Protector of the Two Worlds probably refers to his protection over the realm of souls has also not aged all that great 4/10

It's invite-only, and not really relevant to traveling in the Wastes. Here's the post I made last time this was floated:
No. It's invite-only, because the same knowledge that lets you avoid attracting attention from the Four teaches you how to get that attention if you so desire. My guess is that a given College's Magister Patriarch/Matriarch makes the call; unlike a bunch of our other College classes, our training involved only Greys.

And, despite the shared word, anti-Chaos training isn't actually that important for traveling to the Chaos Wastes. The perils of the Wastes are, essentially, analogous to radiation poisoning, whereas anti-Chaos training teaches you how to avoid accidentally building a fission pile in your backyard while you're trying to do something else. Very important, if you're the sort of person who can be trusted with the knowledge of how fission piles work, but doesn't actually help you if you're spending a week in an area with high background radiation. Related concepts, but different hazards.

I do need to point out that all things being equal, we might not be Melkoth quests favourite person right now.

we essentially dragged him to the ass-end of nowhere and away from his own projects for things that we did not end up needing him for.

if it was the other way around the thread would be screaming for blood at this point.

Jokes aside, he did not seem all that happy when he arrived, and we are kind of wasting his time.

He was fairly hands-on in the first half of the turn, teaching the Miasma. Out-of-character, his contribution turned out to be un-necessary, but in-character he offers a stream of tips and guidance that likely looks like it accelerated and softened the timetable. There's also the upcoming duckling action for some socialising before the decision on next turns actions is made one way or the other.

He did in fact help us with learning MMM. We didn't have to roll to cast it for the first time in a partially-learned state; that's huge.

The point of "don't annoy powerful wizards by grabbing them for trivial bullshit" is a good one, but, well, training other wizards in Battle Magic is what he does. It's literally his job description for the Grey Order: he's in charge of the Battle Wizards. And if we're working on something that might conceivably be ported to the Ulgu Battlemagic spellbook in general, I can't see him being that annoyed by it.
There's also the upcoming duckling action for some socialising before the decision on next turns actions is made.
And this is a very good point: we can see how much of a grumpopotamus he is at Duckling Club and calibrate accordingly.

That, or we'd be extremely interested in the chick who just obliterated learning our signature spell and has several big fat question marks in her record, alongside the major achievements that aren't too classified for even him.

Eh. We didn't order him over, diegeticly the price of hiring a magister is just what they charge for their time. Not his problem if we want to pay him to sit around all day.

He literally puts AP into being on-call for stuff like this; being favor-reachable is an explicit opt-in thing, and he gets free oodles of what-have-you-done-for-the-colleges-recently currency in exchange for mentor fluff.

It's his Duckling Club.

Well I'm sorry to see that Johann appears to have fallen into 3rd. Not a fan of Panoramia, but at least she's better than making an explicitly romantic move on a dragon.

Ah well, maybe Panoramia will reject Mathilde and reveal she's been dating some halfling man for a year and never mentioned it.

My turn next.

16. Keeper of the Hours - A symbolically religious title, perhaps to do with the sun's passage through the heavens, or a commemoration for the beginning of proper timekeeping under Settra's reign? Could go either way, maybe even both. 8/10
17. Chosen of Ptra - Might be related to the above, given Ptra's position as Sun God, and also a symbol of divine rule. 9/10
18. High Steward of the Horizon - Could be symbolic, with regards to the horizon being the borders of Nehekhara, could be religious. Sounds cool either way. 7/10
19. Sailor of the Great Vitae - Depending on how violent the Vitae was, could be a great feat, or could be symbolic of having "conquered" the Vitae as well. Might also be a record of Settra's bringing about wide-scale navigation of the river. 7/10
20. Sentinel of the Two Realms - Seems somewhat redundant, given the one previously mentioned, though it's likely an assumed title from a conquered throne. 4/10
