I need to go to bed before the moratorium expires, but this is how I'm currently leaning on the write-in votes:

[] [LIBRARY] Plan Redshirt
[] [RUNE] No purchase.
[] [ENCHANTMENT] No purchase.
[] [SHOPPING] Go to Zhufbar look for a nice rifle.

While in Stirland, you also make a small detour to follow up on a request from King Belegar, but what you thought would be a simple job turns out very frustrating indeed. Finally, in a tavern in Nachthafen you get an answer. "Codrin Petrescu's sort of a Sylvanian joke," says the barkeep, who has been seeing a lot more business from Stirlandian soldiers than Sylvanian locals of late. "Though it's a matter of opinion how funny it is. If an outsider wants to know who did something or who's responsible for something and you want to give them the runaround, you tell them 'Codrin Petrescu' and point them to the next village along. The next village will hear the name and know to point them to the next village, and so on. If you know the old language, the name sort of means, erm... forgive my language ma'am, but 'in the forest, son of my privates'. Like, um, if a man answers a call of action against a tree?"

You're familiar with the general idea, having been sent looking for a left-handed grounding rod a time or two yourself. You hand over some silver in gratitude for the straight answer, and make your way back to Eight Peaks feeling very unamused indeed.
Thinking on it, why did Belegar send us to find 'Codrin'? I don't think it was in the last update? Did he think something was amiss, or did he want to hire 'Codrin' for something?

[X] Tower of Utter Neutrality - with rune and material and a great deal of care, make your Tower completely magically neutral. Large bonus to studying anything magical, small bonus to studying everything else from higher Magesight contrast. 250gc, 5 Dwarf favours.

[X] [KRAGG] Hit Fast
Yeah...'hit when not looking' is certainly very memey...but that's really not what a Great Sword is for. Not when we have options like dagger, guns, and magic. Certainly not when we only have conventional GS training, and aren't likely to go on to specifically create some stealthy Grey Wizard style to use it.

As for power...Great Swords have power. They're ridiculous size and wind-up sacrifices a lot to get that power. When it's an automatic magic-weapon on top of that plus runic BS...if we need more power to deal with a target, we're better off backing up and taking it from range (with a cannon).

That leaves speed. Trying to deal with one of the biggest issues of high-power weapons in the equally long wind-up they require to get their power. Shortening that wind-up? Can only be a good thing, especially with a character that already has a smaller reach (and thus ability to keep the foe AWAY) just due to her build.

It's this or the Dusk tower for spell learning for me. And considering how long some of our research has had to wait...I'm going with this. As nice as a strategic defense like Burning Shadows sounds, it's entirely dependent and limited on the time of day and mountain itself. And since I'm not real sure we'll be facing consistent surface threats from the shadow direction of this specific mountain...it seems a bit of a waste.

@BoneyM Is D&D + Burning Shadows in one building, with Serenity + Neutrality + Oh Dear a combination you find more thematically appealing than moving Serenity over the Ulgu building?

[X] [SHOPPING] A Marksdwarf Pistol.
[X] [LIBRARY] Snakes And Swords

Let's not pick up another weapon class we need to spend time mastering. The marksdwarf pistol will do well enough when matched with our talents.

Yes? It's directly related to a upcoming assignment, may be peripherally useful to us in the future, and is probably quite helpful to Panoramia.
Potential assignment. I think it's likely a good purchase and there's a strong possibility but it's still only one possibility of many. Belegar may instead assign Mathilde to investigate Greenskins, hunt down Codrin, research Skaven tech, Deal with runesmiths, vampire proof the place, or any number of other tasks.

I forgot to comment on it when we got the first snippet, but I figured that maybe, this "do it over a few decades, wearing out a few hammers" thing might be the sort of thing that eventually kills Longbeards, as they get kind of, well, bored.
Its an interesting thought. Like, the reason Kragg is alive for those who may not be full up on the lore is really simple.

He's too damn stubborn to just up and die when he passed two centuries and so now he has become one of those rare Dawi who live for multiple centuries and has in fact lived so long he's become what's called a Living Ancestor.

But back to what you're saying I think it may also be the invigorating nature of the Reclamation itself taking off the shackles of the Dwarves fatalism. He's actively helping to repay favors, and that tends to perk Dwarves up from what I recall.

We're preparing the groundwork for when she finally steps down.

Her skill is also what's making this a growing opperation, and she's going to be there for a decade yet I bet. Time enough.

Just noticed this:

Provided this wasn't from us (which I don't think it is, since Johann only jumped in a bit later) the Skaven defending the guard posts aren't just nervous or scared, they're terrified. Mors is definitely losing this war, and probably badly at that.

Thinking this means we should probably about pressuring then too much because they are keeping the focus of the other clans off of us, and maybe aim for Karagil above and below next? Rely on spiders and civil war to keep Mors in check.

Johann is totally going down the 'weird-magic-cyborg' route, which I have to say sounds really fun! Kind of terrifying, in the possibility of losing you humanity, but the idea of a magic-based transhumanism line of thought is fascinating to see. Though...I do worry about the side-effects, or the horrifying possibilities miscasts might present to him. But in the meantime, having another frontline wizard is bound to be fun for us, bad for everything else.

And now I'm just imagining Mathilde and Johann being passed on to the greater Skaven hordes as a pair of horror stories.

"Flee-flee from the Shiny-Gold, for its hide-flesh is harder than steel and cannot be killed, and fear-fear the Sharp-Shadow, for it cannot be smelled-sensed and its presence means death!"

It's probably a little bit of everything, but it's sort of tragic to think that the dwarves perfectionism might be directly responsible for age-related deaths amongst the longbeards.

The fatalism and lost glory likely lead to a lack of inspiration, and the repetitive hammering eventually, over centuries, loses its appeal.

I figure Kragg will keep on living, and feeling much better, as long as he is in figurative high gear. Let him go back to his workshop in Karaz-a-Karak and he will get back to his low-boil disapproval-fueled existence. Living, because he is too stubborn to die, but only just.

And I figure someone like Thorek, who is willing to be outright inventive with his runes, might well live forever as long as he isn't killed. There will always be the next rune to invent or discover, the next combination to try out, the next hold to raid for knowledge, the next masterpiece to create.

So, do Skavens like cheese or is a mostly Skaven-meat diet? I'm thinking we should leave small care packages for our friend so he becomes accustomed to us and does not run away when we put a collar on a him.
Oh the adventures we shall have!

To my understanding, converting yourself into gold (or at least starting to) is fairly standard among Gold Magisters.

It really is, and its in theme for their whole deal of "Our psychology leads to certain pitfalls around perfectionism with extreme regularity".

Thorek living forever if not killed I'm not sure about. He of course could find some piece of information which is incredibly disheartening and like... essentially lose his heart on his Quest for Knowledge, which would be sad. Actually goddamn tragic, but he does have a good chance of living a really long time.

Yeah, Karagril is a good idea. Both to see how our other neighbor is doing, and see what relations are like between Skryre and Moulder.

So people we have to build another tower next turn probably and then do 3 upgrade actions after that for all the tower actions apparently . I hope in the future boney doesnt do two part tower votes aswell and in each vote we vote for both the tower and its effects.

I know people want more but there will be only so much availability of specilized stuff available so it would make sense that each effect would take a turn atleast.

Also i still think like 5-6 for shortsword for shanking people with is a thing to consider even when we get the greatsword. And hit hard might be the +10 str rune so please people vote for that. Wouldnt hate a runed gun aswell.

netruality is winning by far as it should tough and please vote for keeping spiders under us people . Also what do people think about giving them skaven and greenskin corpses as payment and to foster cooperation and this might allow them to expand their population for further military and hopefully economic effects.

They eat most things humans do. Cheese, bread, cows, chickens, each other, whatever corpses of their enemies are around, warpstone, you know the usual.

So I think we can conclude that Clan Mors has somehow gone traitorous, and Clan Eshin might be the third enemy they face. We need to figure out a way to detect Clan Eshin, though.

If I recall correctly we can spend cost-actions on Tower Building if we want to get it all done next turn, so we should keep that in mind if our workload is particularly light. These things are really awesome, and a tower that gives us free actions is a must-have.
