You could but I'm not going to give a flat bonus to the library bonuses and nothing else is leaping out at me.

Since public libraries aren't really much of a thing in this setting, I have to concede that I'm not thinking of any good ideas either. I just like libraries, and a tower library sounds fun I guess.

Just noticed this:
As you approach the Clan Mors guard post you previously noted, he falls obligingly silent and snuffs out his light. There's some sort of illumination peeking out from a side-passage, which just about allows normal eyes to see the silhouettes of the Skaven guard post. Your more robust Magesight sees not just them, but also terror and confusion running riot through each of them, and the noxious glow of warpstone in three long gun barrels and the terrible rotating mechanism known as a ratling gun.
Provided this wasn't from us (which I don't think it was, since Johann only jumped in a bit later) the Skaven defending the guard posts aren't just nervous or scared, they're terrified. Mors is definitely losing this war, and probably badly at that.

My semi-worry is that he is actually considering going rogue, and looking into ways of escaping/dealing with us when he does.
Most likely Johann asked because he was thinking about Skaven Gas weapons. Notably Gold Wizards can actually get their lungs gilded which makes them immune to gasses.

That's not my reading.

I figured "Neutrality" and "Grounding out magic" would go pretty well with "zero distractions".
I'd think that being filled with Ulgu would actually more comforting than a place with all the magic ground out.

[x] [SPIDER] They are military assets and thus the responsibility of Dreng.
[X] [KRAGG] Hit Hard
[X] Tower of Utter Neutrality - with rune and material and a great deal of care, make your Tower completely magically neutral. Large bonus to studying anything magical, small bonus to studying everything else from higher Magesight contrast. 250gc, 5 Dwarf favours.

[X] [LIBRARY] Plan Redshirt

Here. The library vote, in easy copy-paste format.
Needs books on how to spot vampires.

Have everything organized so people other than us can actually find things? I kind of assumed we'd need to set this up before the book collection became a benefit to draw journeymen in with. Isn't it mostly sitting in crates right now?

[X] [SPIDER] They are the very definition of 'miscellaneous weirdness' and thus the responsibility of the Court Wizard.

People love the spiders and it could be lucrative for us and the eic if the webs work out is a serious thing people. Also the spiders can be skaven and greenskin disposal site for better relations and maybe as payment for future silk aswell and to increase their numbers for further murdering and silk. If they feel safe they can expand their numbers and be more effective especially if we can feed them regulary with the corpses.

Would love the serenity tower next or on top of the neutral one if they fit.

Everyone, on the shopping vote, might I persuade you to vote for:

[ ] [SHOPPING] Go to Zhufbar look for a nice rifle, and maybe pick up a revolver so Wilhelmina doesn't keep carrying four pistols at all times.

A rifle would nicely complement our skillset, and be an insanely better sniping weapon than a pistol. And those Holds have some huge halls and caves.

As soon as we learn Shadow Knives, which extend to more or less the maximum pratical lenght of pistol shooting, the pistol becomes a hold-out weapon/extra attack in melee when doing TT combat.

Hitting hard is always good.

[X] Tower of Serenity - Perfect temperature, perfect level of background noise, perfect conditions to get those bloody papers written. Or for someone else to do it for you. It even has a rune to keep your drink warm. Every turn, writing or dictating 1 paper costs no actions. 300gc, 3 College favours, 1 Dwarf favour.

We are going to want a steady income of favours and this is the way to get it. Furthermore, there is a clear progression from serenity into neutrality.

Question, are we stuck with having a tabletop stat of 2 Attacks? Or can we improve that by improving our Martial, or by completing Advanced Greatsword?

Because one of our weaknesses in a skirmish was... That we simply only had 2 Attacks per round. (And 1d3 attacks of 1d6 strength, which is swingy as heck.) And most of the things we will by fighting, by volume, will end up being chaff or average Orc Boyz or Goblins or Skaven or Squigs or whatnot. So being able to increase our Attacks would do a lot to increase our damage dealt... Then again, ergh, Hit Hard and Hit Sneaky are also tempting...

Eh. Just seems to me that having our Room of Zero Distractions But Also Perfect Comfort being between our OH FUCK Floor, and our Sterile Lab Floors, just seems....abit off?

Like it makes more sense to me personally to have the Relaxation Room on the bottom floor of a tower, then the Magical Experimentation Floor, and then the Acidic Shadow floor on the top.

Possible options:
Discounts on books (in money or dwarf favors, expressing Belegar cashing in), bonus to learning by the books, free action to teach journeymanling a skill using extensive or better bookstack, favor-generating public library, free book choice every turn.

Yes, that is possible, and I think might be possible without the sword via College items. But more importantly Mathilde needs to be able to kill things she hits with those attacks.

Won't mean much if she can poke them four or five times if she could instead DOINK them twice.

IIRC, Advanced Greatswords would net us the third attack, yeah.

It's fairly common, from what I'm seeing, even if there are a few exceptions, for it to go WS 3/A1, WS 4/A2, WS 5/A3, WS 6/A4, and no baseline human has more than four attacks. The Reiksmarshal, the one human with WS 7 in the armybook, still has 4.

It's a pretty neat progression anyway.

The tower of neutrality would also benefit our minions right? Furthering Joh's goal of studying the Skaven as a passive ability does sound great.
A long, hideously embarrassed silence later as the guards call suspiciously out at the darkness later, a voice speaking surprisingly good Reikspiel calls out. "I pretend that didn't happen and too-too-quiet man-thing does same, yes?"

"Deal," you finally respond, staring into the darkness and trying to figure out why your Magesight insists there's nothing out there.

"Good-good. Man-things never so quiet. You have skill. Have good hunt of the Traitor Clan. May I kill you last."
Awww I believe we have made a new best friend!

I stand by my points, Mathilde is best as a hit and run fighter who doesn't go up against the kind of things that need Hit Hard.

So it's true.
You also had a strange encounter with Kragg the other day, who had singemarks through his beard and seemed uncharacteristically energized. He prodded you to go into the Eastern Valley and had you spar with one of the more skilled of the Undumgi as he watched, then he asked if you wanted to 'hit hard, hit fast, or hit when they're not looking'. As soon as you answered he departed again, at a remarkable turn of speed for his age.

For Dwarves, age really, absolutely is a state of mind.

Good to see Kragg enjoying himself a little in this autumn Beardlingship.

They should yeah, especially for Journeymanlings doing their first few theses and who have worse magesight it'd be helpful I imagine.

It might also double as a slightly better interrogation room given Magesight is how we read emotions and that room gives slight benefits to everything else due to higher magesight contrast.

I forgot to comment on it when we got the first snippet, but I figured that maybe, this "do it over a few decades, wearing out a few hammers" thing might be the sort of thing that eventually kills Longbeards, as they get kind of, well, bored.
