Since Witch hunting was brought up, I believe one of the plans to make up for our lack of Witch hunting was to... have our Kouhai do it. :p

So I'm guess we could something like... after lunch, take a Sayaklone (or Sayaka Prime, doesn't really matter) out to hunt Witches, but with us only as an observer; have her use solely clones to hunt, for her own safety, and ask her to take care of patrolling and Witch hunting from then on, until we find other meguca to help with it?

If she finds any Witches she can't take out with clones, she can tell us so we can go and nuke it.

I will sideline any moral concern about this line of action by claiming it will be good training for Sayaka. :p

Daijoubu! daijoubu!
I for one think Sayaka should be both satisfied and feel very lucky when we give her a little work to do...

In another continuity, her apprenticeship might have been under Masami and Hiroko?

But seriously, good idea. Stick to clones. Each clone takes a different role in 'the party' using a different power, for max training.

For bonus points, we equip a Homura enchantment as our defense to test it to failure. Let the small fry hammer away at it, we have backup defenses.

政をよったら 面白 かろうと 政 -- government よったら -- hypothetical quantifier form attached to either よう, よつ, or よる -- it would be rather helpful if it was written as a fucking kanji but it's not. My inclination is to agree with translate and treat it as よる with the definition "to choose, to select" because that's the only way it makes sense, I think. 面白 かろうと -- everything after 面白 か is over my head. But 面白 か is 面白, "interesting", with a question designator attached. So I'm guessing google is pretty right and this is Kenzaburo asking Oriko whether she thinks choosing politics would be interesting.
Umm. Kaizuki. This last part from the spoiler.

When I hear "government" and "to choose, to select" - there's a process that I associate with those words. "Election". The process of gathering votes in order to be chosen to hold a government office. Does this word fit there anywhere?

Or possibly "appointment" if it's not vote-based selection.

I'm uncertain as to whether SP's choice of pages shown in Vol. 3 deliberately bamboozled me by hinting at things that didn't happen, by distracting me from other things that ended up being a hell of a lot worse, of both.
I'll point out here that Oriko's imaginary child self/witch (however that works) says as much as we had here at the last chapter of Volume 3: "You will never replace your mother, because you are the reason your father died."

Sooo... there's that. :U

So, from what I'm hearing , the entire Mikuni family (minus Oriko, and she's technically a Kure) deserves to die in a fire.

Wait, I just had a thought. Is there any chance of the Mikuni Clan discovering Oriko's meguca-ness, and then blackmailing or otherwise coercing her into becoming a threat again? (Yeah, I know, they'll be immediately gutted by Kirika, followed up by us interrogating the survivors and looting the dead, but whatever. Just popped into my brain.)
Eh, from the look of things, Oriko's uncle Kimihide's deal seems to tie into how he explicitly rejected his father's ideals. At least, that's my read of the transcription. But I think it's got fertile ground, since earlier he says that Hisaomi "did what he wanted to do. I only did what was necessary" with regards to the corruption and his respsonse, notably to rebut his sister's supposition that he held a grudge.

Regardless, it looks like Oriko does eventually confront and make a degree of peace with him. But we'll see what it is they actually say.

Personally, I disagree, as there's a fair amount of research I want to do with witches. Including the whole "try to talk to them" angle. Plus I kinda want to get a couple today to make up for lost time.

RE: The vote, I want to make some changes here

[X] Diary to Cloud Storage. Cloud Storage to Hammerspace.

[X] Tell Oriko you discussed housing and security regarding the two of them last night, but it can wait until after breakfast if they'd prefer.

[X] Ensure privacy. SCIENCE! Aurora:
-[X] Precaution: Leave you Soul Gem in contact with Hildegarde.
-[X] Observe.
-[X] Feed Grief and cleanse. Note changes.
-[X] Enchant a tiny bit of Grief while thinking happy thoughts. Think of your friends, of Mami.
--[X] Try offering a that bit of Enchanted Grief to Aurora.
--[X] If no results, try (carefully!) poking Aurora with magic.

[X] Discuss House Arrest.
-[X] Explain yesterday's talk.
--[X] Apologize for the sudden birb invasion.
--[X] Offer your thoughts. Progress is gonna be slow, and if they agree to the changes, that would help.
--[X] Ask what they think.
---[X] Ask if they want to move out into a new apartment.

[X] Ask Oriko if she knows about the Shirome potentials.

Personally, I'd really rather let Oriko be the judge of whether to do this now or later. She did ask us a question, and Onmur's proposal seems like it would actually play out as just deflecting and leaving, which would be pretty rude.

EDIT: Also added an explicit note about housing, because in light of our conversation in the thread and some potential confusion, I want it to be extra clear that we're offering the move, not ordering it.

EDIT2: Changed wording on question to Oriko, added talk asking about potentials.

What are you talking about?

We're wearing it. That's what you do with a ring. :p

On one hand, it's fulfilled it's original purpose as a SCIENCE experiment; our pinky has not been corroded off, proving sold Grief is not corrosive.

On the other, yes, we are wearing it, therefore fulfilling it's purpose as a ring. (Although in my opinion, pinky rings just look tacky unless there's at least one ring on every finger.)

That pretty much ruins any posibility of a surprise to Oriko, even Kirika's (maid?) outfit. -_-''''''
@The Phoenixian this. Change pls. Just remove the something special line, leave the 'wait until after breakfast' part Ez-Pz

Honestly, I'm not sure how the maid outfit is implicit there and had forgotten it was even a thing while writing that, but alright, I'll figure something out.

And probably do something in the vein of asking about potentials at Shirome while I'm at it.

EDIT: It is done.

It was less of maid outfit by itself, and more of ruining the mood even before there's a chance to be a mood in the first place.

His proposed method doesn't really do that? It's just Sabrina encrypting something with a private key she has memorized. Normal people have trouble memorizing an entire private key of normal length, but she already knows she has unusual memory. She can either do it manually (although at that point it's pointless, since she might as well memorize the diary itself perfectly instead), or with griefhax (in which case it can probably be a secret to everyone until she uses the private key only she knows to decrypt it).

The trick is that Sabrina doesn't know the private key because none of the questers know the private key, because it's on a drive but nobody has looked at it. From the PMMM universe's perspective, the public key is random and meaningless.

Darn, looks like I was late to the translation party.

There are a bunch of mistakes here and there but you got the actual gist perfectly so I will just fill in what Kaizuki struggled with since I obsessive-compulsively help everyone with Japanese.

父の無念を たらす Can't make heads or tails of that. I'd guess at there being some aphorism for suicide in there, and Oriko... Uhm.
Error in transcription. Should be "父の無念をはらす", literally "to dispel father's regrets". It most likely means she was going to avenge her father.

Another error in transcription. "政をやったら面白かろうと", something like "You entering politics could end up quite interesting". 面白かろう is a volitional form of 面白い, but volitional forms of adjectives are quite archaic and not really used today outside of fossilized phrases and wanting to sound fancy and cool (mostly in anime/manga). It basically shows guessing or "probably". The と at the end just marks the end of a quote; the previous bubble had "that's why I believe".

Apologies, I'll be updating tomorrow.

Also, I need clarification on the current winning vote:
-[X] Precaution: Leave you Soul Gem in contact with Hildegarde.
-[X] Observe.
-[X] Feed Grief and cleanse. Note changes.
a) Which Witch Grief Seed are you referring to?
b) What do you mean by "Feed Grief and cleanse"? I presume you mean "put Grief into Grief Seed, and then remove Grief", but I'm not absolutely sure.

Tagging @Onmur, since I believe you wrote that.

b) You presume right. It's just to see if Aurora's behavior changes with different amounts of Grief, or while absorbing or losing Grief.

a) The Seed being experimented upon is always Aurora. Hildegarde is only to be duct taped to Sabrina's Soul Gem as a precaution, since the poking part of the 'tests' tend to result in massive Grief build up and pain. Here's hoping it won't be as bad somehow due to Aurora's behavioral changes, but who knows, maybe it'll be worse. :V

Maybe should explicitly have added that Aurora should be fully cleansed before moving onto those points.

Also maybe abort conditions, though I guess Sabrina would do so automatically in case of massive pain. I guess we don't want to take too long here either... (@The Phoenixian, maybe something to add, maybe not?), (which is why I didn't try to bring up hazily remembered ideas about making a Grief Hax intermediate of some sort, which IIRC, was an idea to prevent Grief spikes while trying to communicate with Seeds).
