[X] The campaign is over, so your duty to Abelhelm is done. What else is there? Leave. Pack your snake-in-a-box, pack your equipment, pack your savings, pack the Liber Mortis, and go somewhere else.

Go full ronin, you know you want to!
Not full ronin, just half ronin please.

New Elector Count: 'Wait, we have a what wizard? Who did what? With what? Here, in Wurtbad? I need to meet this woman now now now'
And then we had the new Van Hal over for tea and scones.

[] Appoint yourself the new Elector Countess. Who will stop you?

I know QM doesn't want to go full CK2, but I'm temped to argue for this. It's not like we couldn't pull it off, after all this, and be basically legitimate enough politicsly.

Van Hal has 20 something year old children

We have finished Van Hal's work. Now to continue it.

@BoneyM - what about those other opportunities we could of had throughout this part of the quest, such as searching the Shyish labyrinth cavern or the Van Hal historic place?

Sorry, but to find that out you would have had to choose them. If I say 'oh, if you explored Vanhaldenschlosse you would have found the Three Treasures of Daventry', then the instant things are back to normal there'll be a mass write-in of 'go explore Vanhaldenschlosse'.

Also, you previously mentioned options with regards to Drakhenoff Town; can we still do our mage scan of the population to see if they have a dhar latice? Also in general set up an administration there as we shouldn't abandon it, particularly if there's going to be a dwarven bridge going to it.

If you really want Mathilde to spend every waking moment for the next few days within murdering distance of everyone who might turn into a berserk ensorcelled murderbeast while already wounded, yes, you can do that. Or you could not.

As to setting up an administration, you've got no authority to actually do anything in that regard.

No real desire to keep being in the service of an unknown benefactor and honestly, no desire to work for the useless College of Magic, either.

[X] The new Elector Count will have his own ideas about their preferred spymistress. Perhaps you'll nominate Julia, if he's accepting suggestions. But your taste for politics has soured. You'll settle down in Wurtbad or your noble-given lands and put out your shingle as a wizard, and see what business comes your way. You'll have time to catch up on your reading, at least...

Getting to stay in Stirland but not have the yoke of 'spymaster' around your neck like a millstone? That's the stuff.
I kind of like this plan. It's a way out from under the Split Loyalties thing. Brush up on a few spells, get to Magister, do kick-ass magical research, and pulled in as a consultant here and there with our burgeoning reputation.

There are eight Colleges, every one different and run distinctly. Perhaps the Grey isn't so bad. And... unless we go rogue we can never really stop working for them.

Mathilde can't really go ronin considering she still answers to the Emperor and her Order.

You misunderstood my intent. It was to ask if they would be available again as opportunities to explore, not a tell all about them.

Returning to Wurtbad is not necessarily remaining on as Spymistress - possibly even if you want to remain Spymistress. The incoming EC might prefer someone they know, or they might have different ideas regarding the trustworthiness of wizards.

It's possible. They haven't gone anywhere and they're part of what is now Stirland-controlled Sylvania.

The sum total of your knowledge:

"An unmarried Elector Count usually doesn't stay that way for long," you note neutrally, not sure how you feel about this.

"Widowed, actually," he corrects, and smiles a little sadly at your look of shock. "Ancient history. She died in childbirth in '66. There's three little Van Hals out there, ready to carry on the family mission should this experiment fail, but nobody knows about them but a few trusted allies."

To repeat the mathematics that someone else previously applied: that means the youngest is at least 11 and the eldest is at least 13, but theoretically one or even all could be in their twenties.

Then that just makes going back to Wurtbad all the better. Lets not waste our Underground Castle!

Heck, remember that land we own? Lets make ANOTHER castle, maybe even make it partially underground too.

Oh and those Stirlamdian Shepherders would make excellent Spies or Special Agents.

We have a title, a castle, unknowable fluids and magic, and a burgeoning spy ring, and that's just the stuff in our pockets. We could be a silent partner in the growing trading company and making more money on the side aside. Those are our positives.

Our negatives are the debt we still owe, the benefactors that will most likely not be too far from us even if we quit, and some more bastards to try and clear out before we can reliably put our feet up. And that's not counting whoever comes in, who could be so utterly inept/corrupt all our work is undone in record time.
If we want to get rid of those negatives, for our own safety if nothing else, we need to play the game awhile longer.

Anything other than continuing as Spymistress obviously significantly changes the premise of the quest. So, I'd like to ask if you are interested enough in all the options presented to continue this quest into a new form? I assume you'd have said if any would mean immediate quest end, but do you have (and desire to express) a preference, a road you can see your enthusiasm lasting down?

After all, this has to be a lot of work, so it's probably good if the QM is enthusiastic about the story direction. Is say Mathilde as ex-Spymistress researching magic goop and swords (with perhaps a little pining) in Wurtbad a story you want to tell?

While I mull over the vote, I wish to articulate something that occured to me after Mathilde made an oathstone of Van Hal; a low level Ulgu spell is 'clone image' which means that in theory Mathilde could create a half dozen images of herself while fighting. The idea of combining illusions with swordplay isn't a new one, but I wonder if it could become a way for Mathilde to punch her way into a higher weightclass than her spellcraft or swordsmanship alone would warrant.

As for the options, I'm favoring either returning to the work of spymistress-ing or returning to the Grey College. I daresay our campaign here would be enough to warrant our testing for magister, and while work has interfered with our academics of late, I think we could brush up a bit in time to move on.

Alternately, even if we don't stay on as spymistress I imagine we could act as a freelance agent for whomever is in charge (having a grey wizard helping you skulduggery things is a nice boon) while still serving the Empire in a way that satisfies our oaths. (Also, if we want to stay on mentioning that we made a good impression on the dwarfs isn't a bad way to go about it)

Anton will need help in keeping things together while a new elector count is chosen. We also need to deal with our place in the trading company and the fact that we are 1000g in debt to Stirland (the mystery gold mine might help with that.)

Mathilde has enough character at this point to keep me motivated whichever path we go down. Don't worry, I wouldn't have suggested them if they were a slow death to my enthusiasm.
