[x] The campaign is over, but your duty to Stirland remains. Go home to Wurtbad.

We are still a Knight of Stirland, even if the new EC wants a different spymistress.
Even then, handing over to our replacement provides closure.

That was a bittersweet end to this grand campaign.

[X] First Things First: Go to Wurtbad, have a good cry, and get some hugs. Decide what to do with your life later.

Is what my heart wants to vote. But in all seriousness

[X] The campaign is over, but your duty to Stirland remains. Go home to Wurtbad.
-[X] After celebrating and resting, travel there alone and as fast as possible.

In my opinion we owe it to Van Hal to make sure the next EC is settled in and made aware of everything we know, especially since it's his son. And if for whatever reason it's not his son, we owe it to Van Hal to find out why the hell not.
After that I don't really care if we stay on as Spymaster, or even stay in Wurtbad at all. We should decide based on the circumstances there.

The subvote is so that we can secure Van Hal's office before anyone else does. We may arrive there before the locals even know he's dead. And I know I joked about it before, but I actually mean secure. We need to know his plans for Stirland, his last will and plans for succession (he was paranoid enough to be prepared for the eventuality) and what he has been doing regarding the Witch Hunters. But most of all we need to make sure that no outside agents rummage in there in the chaos that is the death of an Elector Count.

That said, I'm very impressed by both the quality and quantity of your writing, Boney. I, and I'm sure every other invested reader here, appreciate the regularity of your updates and the obvious talent and care you put into them. Through it all, and the vagaries the dice throw at her (and Van Hal, RIP), Mathilde continues to be a joy to read about. You have my thanks.
Hear hear. Three cheers for @BoneyM. It's downright amazing for a first ever quest. I know you said you GMed before, but did you do that in text/form basis? I'd love to read some.

thanks to being smart enough not to cast at all
FTFY

[X] The new Elector Count will have his own ideas about their preferred spymistress. Perhaps you'll nominate Julia, if he's accepting suggestions. But your taste for politics has soured. You'll settle down in Wurtbad or your noble-given lands and put out your shingle as a wizard, and see what business comes your way. You'll have time to catch up on your reading, at least...
Pretty sure that will be a choice we'll get anyway if we go the Wurtbad route. Better see the situation there before deciding one way or tthe other.

Sorry, but to find that out you would have had to choose them. If I say 'oh, if you explored Vanhaldenschlosse you would have found the Three Treasures of Daventry', then the instant things are back to normal there'll be a mass write-in of 'go explore Vanhaldenschlosse'.
I guess some people are confused that there's no "Stay in Sylvania for a little longer" option given. Not that I'd pick that, personally.

no desire to work for the useless College of Magic, either.
Now now. They are what got us this post, and what taught us how to be a Wizard without going crazy or feeling the need to cast something at every opportunity.

or even all could be in their twenties.
Um... You said she died in childbirth. The only way all of them are older than 11 is if the last child also didn't survive. Which I guess is sad but more than possible.

The Adventures of Mathilde: leading an army to destroy Castle Drakenhof and and then still having to pay down student loans. :lol
I'm pretty sure Van Hal paid off our student loans. And then lent us investment money which means we were in debt to him instea

Might as well give the young Lord a grace period before we resign.

Then I'd like to travel to Cathay. Because no one ever fucking does anything there and we could be the first quest to do so.

Abelhelm would have wanted us to serve his predecessor with the same skill we served him. Sylvania is defeated, but Stirland still has a host problems. We will safeguard his legacy, his family and his province until our death.

Predecessor? I think you mean successor. Also, there are strong undertones to this vote that we may take over as elector count (or at least try.)

BoneyM would have to make most of everything up from whole cloth, and at that point it is only tangentially a Warhammer quest. I'd rather not, for his sake and my own.

We'l other than the Old World where else could we go? Can we live with the dwarves? Or maybe go become a mercenary spy for the Border Princes?

Time to deal with the fallout of our Elector Count dying. Wilhelmina and Anton are not going to like this and considering we're most likely going to beat the runners back, we're going to be the one to break the news to them.
Mathilde showing up on Wilhelmina's doorstep and busting into tears the moment she tries to talk would certsinly be an evocative scene.

@BoneyM

Ah. Pity.

Back to the topic at hand, if we vote to go to Wurtbad, would it be normal for her to go at her own pace on Shadowsteed and arrive in a few days or would her default be travelling there alongside her commanders?

And in either case, will there still be votes regarding her last commands as to how to retread, what to do with the garrison in Drakenhof, how to leave the Dwarfs and whether to make Abelheim's Finger canon? Or will we leave all of that up to Gustav?

If she's going back to Wurtbad she'll be going with the army. And all of those things are either completely trivial or outside her authority.

I'm intrigued about how returning to Wurtbad will progress. It's possible that we'll remain spymistress, but just as possible that the new Elector Count will not trust us enough to leave us in the position. Even our knighthood is up in the air, as it was an oath between her and Van Hal. I imagine it is traditional for the new Count to re-affirm the oath of knights in such a situation, but they may choose not to. The only thing in relative security is our holdings in the EIC, as Wilhelmina is the only other holder and our firm ally.

Stirland is in dire need of capable individuals to run the province. Mathilde is a Stirland gal in heart and soul. Spymistress of a province is near the top tier of secular power Mathilde could wield as a wizard. Her palace and network are here, and she is sworn as a Knight to the Grand Country of Stirland. But most importantly, her memories of Van Hal are here.

I see no reason to go elsewhere.

Then I'd like to travel to Cathay. Because no one ever fucking does anything there and we could be the first quest to do so.

Ulthuan Quest has included them a bit, and visiting Cathay isn't just an option in Champion of Gods & Rogues it's mandated to fulfill the character's motivation. So it's not completely ignored, even if most people opt to play in the corner of the sandbox that is fleshed out more.

...that was an awkward confluence of idioms there. I'd like to apologize for that.

Because they're from a much older version of the RPG from before they nailed down balance and lore. Their absence isn't an oversight, it's deliberate.

Ah. Sorry for bringing it up in thread?

I assume we can change that with a write-in then? I already did, but I wanted to know if there's any point trying to convince people to vote for it.

If you really think that the paranoid Witch Hunter left anything valuable unattended and unprotected in his study instead of bringing it with him, I suppose you can drop everything and rush back to Wurtbad.

Who currently has the authority then? Who will tell the garrison to stay or to go? Gustav?

I didn't think it needed to be specified, but yes, Gustav commands the army.

@BoneyM are we going to have chance to pass the Liber Mortis to abel's kids?

I'm not sure why you'd think you wouldn't be able to do that if you wanted to.
