Ah. Fuck it. Go Big or go Home, as they say.

[X] Chicago Planned City

Chicago is just starting to be an actual city, at the moment it's mainly a refining centre on the edge of the Red Zone with a heavy military garrison. So it sends the message that Granger and Seo have faith in the military for their protection, and it also sends a message of support for the military with Seo's first public introduction being there, as well as compounding on his known history as Tiberium plant manager with the refining going on at Chicago. The online introduction means there's no physical danger but the almost guaranteed presence of NOD sockpuppets and possible hacking means that the online meeting will be pretty uncontrolled, and it won't gain him any acceptance among the political parties which is what we are aiming for.

As for the Initiative Energy Summit, considering that we're just starting to look at Liquid Tiberium power cells and even that will cost us Political Strength. And if we get Granger's heir-apparent, a known radical in Tiberium research, blurting out his plans for it at the conference....

That's why I don't like Chicago. I know we have to put a lot into our military. But would like to see plans where not all free dice goes to the military. And Chicago looks to me as if we will continue to do that now

I'd kinda prefer the Enterprise opening, because we really need more space capability, but I also like the messaging behind going to Chicago... And I think that we'll probably be pushing support for the military to that level anyway, so it's worthwhile.

What better place for the successor to the current head of the Treasury to be introduced?

Since I was away for the big economy debate, I have only a few things to say. Firstly, leave the grants be. There will be a non-resource cost that creeps in over time like infrastructure for the Housing Grants or labour for the Services grants. With Light Industry, this is likely to be an energy cost or perhaps capital goods for setting up and expanding the factories. We do not need a drain on our resources like that for something we are handling adequately.

Secondly, there is nothing stopping the FMP or market socialists from setting up their own chip/toy/whatever factory besides cost. We have no laws preventing them from paying for GDI to build the factory, buying the equipment, purchasing materials and hiring workers. All they want is for GDI to fund them and give them the equipment, we don't need to, nor is it something that we really should do. If they want to make a factory they can, but why should we waste our resources helping them while some plans are once again idling dice for want of resources?

With Chicago becoming an ever more critical part of the Initiative's overall economic system, and one with a significant military presence, making the introductions in Chicago will be a mark of confidence in the military's ability to protect him, and an indication that the Initiative's newfound aggression will continue, and the high levels of funding along with it.

We picked a treasury man with no political footprint, not experience speaking in public on any real scale, and heterodox views on tiberiums us in modern society. Yes this is a great idea, let's rock!
