Honestly, I think it would make more sense to just abbreviate project titles. Ithillid's never once been persnickety about that as far as I can recall, and names like "BZ Apartments," "Communal Housing" and "Green Housing" would make it a lot more practical to fit plans into skinny fixed-width tables.

I encourage people who have concerns about the draft format to voice them to me rather than grilling other commenters, particularly if it's falling short on something you're used to using an existing vote format for.
I was mostly asking because I was hoping to figure out what I've apparently been doing wrong all this tie.

Ah yeah that does help quite a bit, there probably isn't a single size that will work on all devices but on mine at least bumping up the font size just a point or two looks like it helps immensely.
The difference between, say, five-point and seven-point font can be pretty marked for legibility purposes, yeah. Though for me, if I have to change my display settings to make something legible... :(

lol, now I just have to put in the mental effort to keep track of everything that all that stuff being displayed means.

Ah. My answer to that question was just that there was a lot of duplicate and essentially layout-less information, so it was very difficult to scan. Honestly, it's kind of obvious in retrospect that when proposing budgets, generic quest vote formatting would get BTFO by spreadsheet formatting.

No use crying over spilled milk though, right? It's not like this formatting is reasonable for people to do manually anyways, I'm only even bothering because I'm confident I can offer an automated solution when I'm happy with the result.

At any rate, before I go to bed I decided to try out recovering a bit more horizontal room by standardizing the leading checkbox such that I could use the more compact default font there instead of courier new. For line items that should afford me about 3 extra 9pt characters! Not much, but honestly every bit counts with how little I have to work with.

As usual, gonna test it now.

[X] Plan Squeeze more space out by ignoring checkboxes (now checking space gains)
-[X] Infrastructure ___________________ sub-totals: 5d/5 ____50R _____
-[X] Blue Zone Apartment Complexes ····· #9-10 2d ····· 20r · 13%
-[X] Communal Housing Experiments. ··········· 2d ····· 20r · 87%
-[X] Green Architecture Risk Assessment and Testing ···· 1d ····· 10r · 67%
-[x] Plan comments can be delivered in a different, more compact font.
-[X] Heavy Industry ___________________ sub-totals: 4d/4 ___ 55R _____

end - Indeed, I seem to have saved 3 characters of extra width from the change. That should come in handy.

Hey what plan allows for the construction of the Columbia and or Shala

Most likely Columbia will be started next turn (I know I intend to push for it) but Shala is going to wait as we have another project that can discount stations, so makes sense to just do one while we discount the other.

Possibly Advanced Alloys Deployment? Sounds like an expensive project though.
Not sure it is worth considering any delays to stations.

@Prime 2.0 Maybe I just don't understand what you're trying to do with formatting, but why does every single line of your tests have its own formatting tags? Do you really need to specify [FONT=courier new][U][B][SIZE=1] for each and every line?

Also, no idea if this helps, but here's how it looks in my browser. It seems like there's still unused space, at least for me?

We do? I thought we knocked those all out.

I too was under the impression that we'd finished both the Station Bay and the Leopard II Factory this turn.

Advanced Alloys is a possibility, but the word we've gotten is its 5 phases of 2 STUs each and each phase reduces progress costs by 5% each for a net reduction of 25%. It is something we definitely need to get and soon, that just too much savings on the table given we have the STUs for it, but I'm of the opinion that we need to start the Stations. My plan is specifically to put 6 dice on Columbia and Shala each.

Although from a numbers perspective, a 25% progress cost reduction on each of the stations would save ~12 dice total for them (not to mention the savings elsewhere for Chicago (~3), Reykjavik (~4), Karachi (~6), and North Boston (~7) and for the required future space expansions (~25, note this is based on the conservative estimate vastly over estimating cost of Space Pop actual savings are likely ~15-18 dice)).

This is assuming the 25% progress cost is accurate, an actual determination on what is the most beneficial option needs to wait for the actual cost and effects of Adv Alloy's Deployment.

And it assumes we have 10 STUs to spend. :o

We currently should have 11 STUs, 8 currently plus 3 from us gaining over 300 Tiberium income. Then there is how we are likely to gain roughly 1 STU per turn just from how much Tiberium Income we are/will be making. For instance even this coming turn for plans that don't put any free dice in Tiberium and put the 7 dice into Vein Mines instead of more aggressive Deep Glacier Mines after the nat 1, we'd still expect another ~100 RpT. which means our STUs would increase by 1. And we expect to continue this for some time. That is how we are going to have the STUs for it.

General Discussion>Third Four Year Plan End

InitiativeDemon
Okay, Everyone. The third Four Year Plan has finally ended and the results are now well known. GDI won a total Victory against Nod, two major Space Stations are completed and our Tiberum economy has practically doubled.

I would not say that it is a major success. It is a significant improvement amongst us in the military and the Tiberium economy has practically doubled since 2058 and more new stuff are comng out of the labs,

We also got a few more boonies thanks to the business grants, more arcologies built per quarter and some good food finally coming back to the plate

Now, with that out of the way. what is your personal experience on the current plan and what will you like as improvement in the next plan?

Schlubbs von Spending.

The Third Plan is practically a roller coaster. On one hand, we got ourselves into another big brawl with Nod.I means Seriously, these Tiberium Wars are getting shorter and shorter than ever before although every one says that Kane was not included on this so I will consider it 3.5 Tiberium war.

On a lighter note. I would not say that GDI has recovered to pre TW3 levels but we are getting back on our feet. We have bacon now! Still costs an arm and leg but they are not super rare and hopefully they will also start funding some more meat and dairy.

TibBiteZodelo
Our biggest boon is finally, Finally after 10 Fucking Years, the Treasury has began rolling Zone Armor to Ground Pounders. It will take another year before we can start pulling out from Red Zone Glaciers and MARV Hubs to deploy more into deep Red Zone, Considering how high Parliaments demands are in cash, we will likely be spending the next plan scouting ahead into deeper RZs for more Glacier to harvest Tib Into.

We could end up possibly exceed the Parliament cash request and have more money than sense.

SailorStarlight
Hopefully a real settlement in the Moon and Columbia and Shala. The Treasury promised that they would put 20K people in 2065 in space and hopefully make it living here less than like a prison cell

ALso, more Fusion Ships and G-Drives is nice. Hopefully, we can also have Warships in Space. You know, just in cases, those aliens at Jupiter decide tot drop by to earth again

TheLambSauce
More fckin meat, naturally. All of the spices is nice but there is a limit to what you can do with basic shit. Although the many things you can do with Tomatoes and Potatoes with whole lot of spices.

Demand for meat is still sketchy though, many say they don't feel good after eating one. People say its because we were stuck on veggie diet for so long. But we got a few tryers here and then, Buncha Fubs at treasury spent so long making people eat Fungus and Weird meat fruits that they chicken out on good real meat.

ADressUpDarling
Hopefully a few more extra cash for fashion and entertainment. We have money but there are quite a few delays when getting funding especially and a little more GDI help. Also, a bit more variety in desserts would be nice, Meat is back and we have more chicken now but I kinda miss the classic desserts like Mochi and Ice Cream

WickerTib
We just went diving to the Deep Red Zone in the MidWest and dear god it was freakin crazy. It made the previous RZ dives a real mess but we were greatly assisted by the new ZA Troops. The new Tendrils are doing their magic and sucking up more Tib but our Sonics are burning themselves out faster just breaking Glaciers day and night (at least it is on Red Zone). Thank god, the trains are nearby and we lost less Crytals to Nod Raids.

ThisZoneofOurs
We have also been receiving our own ZA Suits and personnel here in Europe though, thankfully, there are no Deep Red Ops planned as of this time yet on our side.Probably due how close we are to the alien tower.

FaithlessMind
I believe that the best way this period is spent is improving education. Dr. Ganger has built upon the current education but a major increase in funding and teaching as well as assistance in finding jobs for new arrivalsl would be very crucial.
Also, high quality housing and food must be also be priority for this plan. This will not only heal the breaches between both the old and new citizens of GDI but also improve the standing of the current Treasury Policy Makers and prevent certain unsavory people from returning GDI back to its elitist and inefficient roots

Schlubbs Von Spending
@faithlessmind Central Planning go brrr..

DeathToEmerald

More Inhibitors naturally, especially in the newly converted Blue Zones. Also, Vein Mining would be a good start as well. Leave our soldiers less in danger and also reduces the large Tib Spikes like in New York

But of course the Treasury goes gallivinating on Red Zone Glaciers. Again

Blueheart
More Hospitals and advanced medical services would be a good start. Almost half of our Health Capacity is still assisting refugees and we have barely enough surplus in case of a major disaster. Those new Medicine Plants that the Agri Group keeps touting is not being released. Also, more food security and not the CRaP but real food.
Lastly, space habitation is also good.

TankieMensch
I am still waiting for my Tentacle MARV's treasury. Also, why in the heck the Mastodon got approved first? Where is my Super Mammoth and Super Predator #notrealtankname

Are we going back to TW2 where walkers are the rage? No!! Not those impractical chicken legged death traps! Death to Battlemechs!

Giant of Steel
@TankieMensch Haha! Decades after the unrightful disbandment, the Walkers stand proudly as GDI's new vehicles. Your Tanks and APCS will be put to the garbage tin where they belong.

TopTierCitizen
I do not understand why you are all so happy with the results of the previous plan. The Yellow Zoners that came into our Blue Zones is too much. Too much!
We fought half a century to keep the damn Yellows out of the Blue Zone, and now suddenly the government is letting them in and all of you are jumping for joy despite the lives they took and the luxuries they are taking from us. What was the point of all that blood we shed for the last half century if in the end, the Yellows and Noddists are winning against us?

InitiativeDemon
@TopTierCitizen
Okay, back the fuck up, what? Do you see any Scorpion Flags around your street. Do you see any stupid idiot growing tiberium in your backyard? Do you see tibs glaciers in our cities and monks burning some 'unbelievers' on the street?
No. you do not. Why? because GDI is the one who won. We bled for this current situation, we bled so that Nod is now dying slowly more than every before You have no right to toss away thirty years of our sacrifices and the peace we earned just because you don't have steak on the damn table

TopTierCitizen
@InitiativeDemon
Sacrifices that is now being wasted! You said so yourself that you fought for GDI for three decades. And now, we have noddists in the GDI Goverment, we have yellow zoners in our Blue Zones, taking from our shelves and killing our people, killing people you are dying to defend!
Why, why do you defend them? I don't understand. We saved them from Tiberium and Nod and they rewarded us by wasting our efforts and just making Nod stronger.

Schlubbs Von Spending
Wow, the Firsters really are whining. I guess I can't blame them with the Treasury tossing IF again to the wayside. Then again, considering they are assholes who would be dancing if Billions died, yeah. they deserve it. Besides, its not like Initiative First has good ideas nowadays.

Okay, I'll be the first to admit, I would probably be a Firster if ti wasn't from them being Corpo Ass Kissers. Still working on not freaking out with my new neighbors from Texas but small steps eh.

Wellerman.
More goddamn ships would be nice. The last war and our damn Governors got battered to hell and we were forced to serve on shitty Carrier Mockups. What the hell? Since the ground pounders are drowning in Tanks and APC and shells. Can they at least give us better and more goddamn ships!?

@Prime 2.0 Maybe I just don't understand what you're trying to do with formatting, but why does every single line of your tests have its own formatting tags? Do you really need to specify [FONT=courier new][U][B][SIZE=1] for each and every line?

Also, no idea if this helps, but here's how it looks in my browser. It seems like there's still unused space, at least for me?
I suspect that my desktop screen (1080p) has less space because I'm using SV's font size feature - I have it set to 22px. Landscape mode on my phone by contrast where it's still the default 16 has more room - but in portrait mode, even less. Something to look into, I suppose, though I need to preserve wide compatibility.

As for tagging - I will eventually automate the formatting, but for now while I experiment it's mostly manual. To whit, a screeny of my text editor:

Now, my earliest versions used scant formatting, just size=1 and courier new the whole way through, with bold applied to department headers - and then SV somehow turned that into an even worse looking jumble than what you probably see in your reply box.

Additionally, the tag order somehow impacts how the underline tag renders - I do it inside the font tag and the underlines overlap the underscores like I want, I do it outside and they don't.

But now that I'm doing all sorts of screwy shit like using a default font and size 1 for all checkboxes, and then using courier new (for fixed width) and various other sizes (mostly 3 and 1) while keeping track of how 3 size 3 characters is as wide as 4 size 1 characters, and...

Well, at that point not only does it need to have a load of tags on each line just to physically switch between it all, but I may as well lay it out in a consistent fashion so my head doesn't spin when I'm editing it. Hence, the above.

I'm not joking when I say that any of this is completely unreasonable to do by hand during an actual vote. It lives or dies on my ability to produce accessible tools that let people format their vote this way automatically with little to no effort.

I wonder how people envision a world where the Tiberium comet never landed on Earth.

I too was under the impression that we'd finished both the Station Bay and the Leopard II Factory this turn.
1 or more stages of advanced alloy. So to me it makes more sense to push one station while we rack up more discounts than pushing both at once. Also let's me fit in the gravitic drive yard. Overall fewer dice for same station progress.

Advanced alloy is big enough that I can't justify holding both but not so big that I can't justify serial building stations as opposed to parallel build.

I don't see how it makes a difference.
We'll still be building X progress on space stations. Whether we put that on one or two stations does not change any savings once we get the discount.
