The Socialists and Market Socialists have put together what they call the Restart Manifesto. While it is pushing a broad range of social and political programs, the elements that the Treasury needs to be concerned with are fundamentally requests for a series of grant and loan programs, the founding of an economic development bank, and beyond that a series of major programs focused on consumer goods and creating a major surplus of capital goods to kickstart the overall economy.

The FMP has made overtures to the Developmentalists, but have not made common cause. While this is almost certainly a matter of the Developmentalists internal realignments, it is likely indicating a significant softening of their stance. Instead of being a party backed primarily by the old power structure, it is likely to be an increasingly Yellow Zone party, as they are the individuals most likely to head towards the private sector in the current day and age.

even the pro command economy communist political groups are now pushing for grants to restart the private sector and the FMP is shifting from being the mouth piece of the rich elites and the major corps(most of whom are no longer rich or exist) to representing actual common people with real concerns and economic needs , in fact I suspect most of the FMPs new base of supporters will be yellow zone refugees who want grants to set up small business to support themselves and no weird bureaucratic none sense getting in the way of their flower shops , arcades and grocery stores

There's kids in every channel, seriously, this is the government forum. InOps roams among the moderati here for more reasons than just looking for Nod botnets.
Also, I am sad to say that we've not had actual bacon available since… sheesh, 15 years ago now, give or take. Bit of a pity. I mean, it's not as if we haven't had the money to start animal product farming again, or the manpower. Those ivory tower technocrats must have their heads up their behinds if they think we'll keep accepting a lack of proper Goudse, or sausages that taste of something other than chicken and too many spices.
We accepted the decrease in chips because the war was on, but that war is over. Give us our food back too, and while you're at it, maybe get to work on a few stadiums so the sporting fans have a place to sit, rather than packing the gyms to unsafe extents when there's a big match on.

Milk and Honey Protests

Bread and circuses people. It's all well and good to try to maximise numbers but you need to remember that people are going to be people and won't see things in terms of numbers.

So unless you want a Revolution in a few years then maybe throw a couple of dice towards some luxury.

"Andrew, please make sure that dear Director Litinov sees this. She works so hard, perhaps it will amuse her. And give Mister Grantham my regards, his games are exceedingly well-developed. And Kenji, please listen to your wife, dear Missus Ito is simply worried about your sugar intake. You drink more artificial soda than dear Secretary Seo and are less active, we can't have your health declining. Feel free to show this recording to all of the 'Important People'. Most of you seem to adhere to the Art of War, at least; Know Thine Enemy. Of course, we cannot simply leave this here…"
Sigh Fuckin Kane and his BS at it again.

Though impressive that we even got a camera into that meeting as is.

[ ] Freeze Dried Food Plants
Freeze Drying effectively turns most food into permanent, shelf stable systems. While building additional plants to process food in this way will be expensive, it should significantly reduce waste, and increase the lifespan of the stockpiles noticeably.
(Progress 181/200: 20 resources per die) (+5 Food, increases efficiency of stockpile actions, -1 Energy) (Will Complete Q2 2061) [6]
Looks like we don't have to invest any dice here next turn.

We know that these outbreaks happen sometimes. They have since the beginning, hell probably sonce before the quest started. This time one just happened to come up somewhere important rather than in the middle of nowhere like usual

It's how the BZ maps justify the presence of open tib vents spewing crystals for harvesting in C&C3. It's known, pre-TW3 behaviour of tiberium.

.... So Kane wants a recruitment spree?
its a bit difficult for me to imagine new people buying into NOD.
I mean between:
-Creating CABAL
-Protecting and aiding the alien invaders (very public, very well known)
-Fomenting Tiberium Grow
-The liberal use of Nukes
-the daily NOD terrorism/atrocity.

I figure that anyone who isnt already part of NOD would realize that joining up is a seriously bad idea.
I mean... i always thought that NOD infinite population came from the original NOD countries and their descendants(C&C1), kidnapping+indoctrination and straight up slavery.

All Gideon has to do is wait a couple of years and let resentment build up.

GDI's pretty good, but it's far from perfect, it used to be worse, and make no mistake, between the number of people involved and Initiative First bullshittery more than a few of the refugees had it better in the YZs than they do under GDI.

And more than a few will be taken by the notion that if they want to rage against GDI's flaws they will have to align themselves with Nod, because that's the only alternative.

Next turn we are gonna have to hard into Energy as we only have +5, so there is not a lot of new things we wont be able to afford Energy wise

it's not that hard to conserve energy-1-2 dice on light carriers, 1 on mastadons, 1 on URLS, 3-4 on OSRCTs, save the power for Anadyr and generally avoid doing any projects to completion that take energy beyond what's absolutely necessary. We have a tiny amount of wiggle room, and 1 die on fusion does have a 88% chance of success. Even if we somehow wind up in a small energy hole, we have some reserves.

If we're really hard up, we can do Red zone projects that make energy, Tiberium energy, or even Alternative Energy Department.

But two is 100% and nets us some progress towards the next phase just in case we need to build another phase.

Brief thoughts:
I love that Erewhon has developed the skill of shitposting. Likewise, Gideon being told off for being too dogmatic.
Other things: We do indeed need to work on Consumer Goods, especially of the food variety. Apparently, our fusion plants are performing alchemy, by turning lead into gold. Scrin presence is worrying but not worthy of panic. And despite the NY shipyard being cursed, we finished two other shipyards and other quite helpful military projects.

From what I can see, it does look like we need to put 2 dice into Fusion energy, since we will need more next turn. We have non-military projects that will eat up energy, and the possibility of being at 0 Energy is not all that fun. Yes, we could do Tib Energy, but I doubt that will get many votes.

"Okay, these plants are like, actually cursed, right? So much investment in them should NOT have produced so little results! We're pushing security up, but we're also gonna get an exorcism, and...hell with it, find me a voodoo priestess and a chicken. I will make literal sacrifices to clear up this bad juju."

The Department of Randomness and Department of Paranormal Phenomena would like to apologize for the previous lack of meaningful response in many low luck situations. While the Regency Wars were still waged, all available personnel were allocated to helping with the war effort, some even sent to front line positions. With most combat zones showing a decrease in combat there will be a shift to better resolve internal issues.

I understand that many people have been concerned about the extreme lack of progress constructing the freeze drying plants. While many other departments have double and even triple checked for problems, the time for extreme action is now. That is why I, Reginald Green, will be personally insuring that all forms of malign magic will be removed from the building sites.

Accompanying me will be may personal friends Primate Francis Brown and Priestess Theresa Lovinski. With their personal attention, along with help from other religious and magical practitioners, no worker will go unblessed and curse unbroken. A large amount of various charms and icons will also be provided to any personnel on or off site (For any specific items please email my secretary.)

I would also like to thank all those that have provided relics and knowledge to help the GDI fight any dark magics. The Tiberium Wars have taken a huge toll on the many cultures of the world and they will be preserved as best as possible. I am sure that the spirits of your ancestors smile upon you.

But it requires a second Heavy Industries die. And we really, really want to spend those on other things. Especially when you consider the fact that the suggested list was all things that we don't need right now, but do need by the end of this Plan. The shipyard taking another turn to complete is something we had decent odds of happening anyway, and the only reason we didn't fail to complete one last turn was due to getting a very low odds of completion to happen. The Mastodons is... well, important but another quarter doesn't matter too much. Chipping away at the URLS just means we swap spending two dice on it next turn and none on say, the carrier shipyard for one die on each project this and next turn. OSRCTs is something where we need to get... two? more Phases done over the next three quarters so getting started sooner is better. Hell, if we really wanted to be dice efficient we'd put one into ASAT Phase 4 as well to get started on that.

All Gideon has to do is wait a couple of years and let resentment build up.

Well. Either or.

Basically. In an ideal scenario for Nod, it continues its buildup. And then. Either GDI also goes military, (leaving the people suffering shortages and allowing for discontent to build up and agents to be subverted) Or GDI 'wastes' money on the consumer goods economy, and nod pulls ahead in high tech weapons/recovers its own damaged industry from the war.

Because, more or less, GDI spends a lot of cash trying to abate low return blue zone tib fields, which are expensive to keep clean while providing little income. While nod meanwhile scoops up as much yellow and red zone as they want, having much higher returns. Given a few years of peace, and GDI internal bickering, Nod could have used the time to catch up.

Instead. By kicking off the war too soon. (In addition to the constant skirmishing which kept us on our toes) It started the war, wherin GDI has destroyed dozens of nod bases, took loads of land and hundreds of thousands of workers. Strengthening GDI as it rolls out new weapons, while actually weakening nod.

Most of which could have been avoided for nod. If, instead of smacking the first tib mining expedition they could when GDI was underfunding the military, causing the treasury to pivot hard to military spending.

nod could have instead, left GDI focusing on the civilian economy. And then, much like tib war 3, go for a major strike against an underfunded GDI military.

If they'd only waited GDI would have been more focused on civilian recovery. Leaving itself weak militarily. Or, GDI could have gone heavily into military, and been potentially looked at like paranoid lunatics if/when nod had been quiet for a decade. Pouring money into military while there's folks who want piles of stuff. Causing internal dissent.

Either way. Nod didn't give enough time to prepare properly for the war. And by doing the constant low level annoying raiding, they didn't meaningfully harm GDI, while giving constant reminders to it to build bigger and better guns. Such that GDI, wanting to punish nod for their constant raids. prepared their own attack. Something that caused Nod and GDI military units to meet in a big full frontal clash which has historically always favoured GDI.

Nod is an insurgency. For victory they are supposed to attack where GDI is weak. And instead of letting GDI make mistakes, underfund the military and grow weak And then nod choosing which way to attack. They kept up a steady pressure up until things escalated to all out conflict. Cutting down on nod options and locking the war into a simple slugfest of direct military conflicts.

But the point being. The second they got the tacitus, that was the instant nod should have gone into silent mode as much as possible, and began setting up the tech for the next war.

"I have come to a conclusion on recent matters. One based on the words of a dear, departed friend of mine."
The sentence hung heavy in the air for several moments before he continued.
"One useless person is simply a disgrace. Two useless people, is a law firm."
A couple of the Warlords started to smile, but Kane was not smiling.
"Three or more, is a Conclave."
No one was smiling now. Some were already starting to sweat, despite how chilly the holo-chambers had to be kept to avoid overheating the projectors and computers involved.
"And it seems that fate has left me with this Conclave

Kane spitting fire.

Yup. This's is why Kane is such a good Villain. Always pulls these little asides.

"Archeological sites, Union rules that date back to 1910, NIMBY pushback from the local arcology dwellers who don't want to look at a shipyard, now we can't get enough fucking porta-potties and fencing because the main distribution hub is backed up on orders-what next, is a Tiberium vein gonna blow through the middle of my construction site?
  • Arnold Burton, two weeks before a Tiberium vein did blow through the middle of his construction site

I laughed out load.

Reminds me of that news story.

He turned and regarded Stahl, his face a cold mask.

"You have done well. Continue your good work."
I guess basic competence doesn't get you much in Nod, at least not from Kane.

And we got a look at the Indian Warlords. Kane is happy with them, and if his mention of Synthesis is anything to go by, they've made some scary progress on Tiberium adaptation.

Which also makes sense, they're the ones that've been developing the Gana.
[ ] Tiberium Harvesting Claws Development (Tech) (New)
Tiberium harvesting claws are a derivative of the Brotherhood of Nod's tiberium harvesting technology. While not as good at clearing the surface, the digging claws are far better at extracting subsurface tiberium. While adding a secondary fleet of diggers will significantly improve overall tiberium production, the most major impact will be on the Tiberium vein mines.
(Progress 98/80: 15 resources per die) [54]

The Brotherhood of Nod's harvesters are a mix of the very conventional, and the very strange. It takes an opposite approach to the Initiative: Dragging the harvesting equipment behind it and using a pair of digging claws to break crystals and kick them up into a hopper. Some parts are extremely conventional, like the dual arms, using much the same technology pioneered over a century ago by Vaino J Holopainen and Roy E Handy, Jr. On the other hand, the actual digging parts are significantly more advanced; a requirement given their purpose. The key is in materials science, and within that there are a number of different solutions. The simplest ones are boron carbide‑silicon carbide ceramics, relatively conventional materials, although usually deposited by use of high energy laser onto the primary blade. For others, it is a fair bit more complicated, effectively using zrbite alloyed blades that are electroplated with a thin layer of Adamant, much like GDI's Tiberium glass designs.

For the Initiative currently, it is the more conventional designs that are the most likely way forward. While they don't last nearly as long as the zrbite alloy blades, they produce much less wear on other parts of the system, as vibrations do not only impact the joint between the arm and the blade, but also the other joints as the vibrations echo up the arm. However, the core technology is more broadly useful, effectively creating a superior cutting edge due to the vibrations and the superhard exterior
I'm sorry, my brain is too smol for this. I'm getting there's some interesting materials science going on in the claws, and the vibration technology is very useful for digging up stubborn Tiberium. But I feel like there's more going on there that I'm just missing.

So now that Kane actually decided to scold his warlords and tell them how disappointed he is will that mean the war is at an end? Well, at least on NOD's end.

Decent results. Very decent results.

A lot of good stuff got done. Unfortunately the reward for good work is more work. So much stuff left to do...

Looks like the war is well and truly over. Solid victory. Well done. Looks like Kane is pissed at everyone but Stahl and the Indian team.

Alright. Time to win the peace.

it helps that a bunch of the developmentalists are in favour of a free market too. Even the socialists want capitalism. They just want laws and restrictions as well to protect people.

Because, that's what most forms of moderate socialism boil down to.

The 'west' is largely comprised of capitalist democracies. Which contains two fundamentally opposing ideas which nonetheless normally coincide together. Capitalism believes that those who are smarter, make healthier, more successful businesses deserve to be rewarded. That, put simply, some people who work 'harder' are 'worth more'.

Democracy on the other hand is built on the underlying principle of 'one person one vote' Which people get to vote has admittedly sometimes been contested. But, in modern times, as a rough baseline. Every voter is assumed to be roughly 'equal' and whichever politician gets the most votes, has the duty of putting their stated policies into practice.

You see the contradiction. 'Everyone is equal' slams head first into 'harder workers deserve more'. Socialism tries to reconcile the two by enacting laws and policies to try to ensure that the lower classes aren't left to starve or priced out of home ownership or medical care. While also allowing capitalism the chance to succeed, but not at the expense of everyone else.

Because capitalism. left unchecked, will lead to monopolies and more important those monopolies abusing the position of power they have, pricing out competitors and cost saving by making sub-standard products or by firing workers to save on wages. Acts, which are, ironically, enough, anti-capitalist as it disrupts the freedom of labour and the freedom of the market once a single business entity has enough power to hold the market to ransom.

But why even permit capitalism? because, when it has good ideas it is excellent at generating wealth. (not necessarily sharing it) The problem is, the government should be able to more evenly redistribute and share that wealth fairly as needed and preventing the markets from engaging in rent seeking behaviours, which extract wealth from the markets unfairly while not actually adding things of benefit to the economy.

Rent seeking literally being... rather than building a house and selling it at a profit, or renting it out. To buy up already existing housing stock, and rent it out. You've created nothing new, and are often disproportionately gathering wealth from the market.

tldr: Capitalism and democracy both good. Socialism attempts to take the best parts of both and curb the weaknesses of either.

Edit: Back to the original point. FMP are now turning towards yellow zoners and relaxing their bigotry as, it turns out, the yellow zoners want the chance for better goods or to be able to own their own businesses too. And rather than leaving those votes to be picked up by UYL or socialists or developmentalists, they're attempting to gather voters themselves. Those who are more racist against yellow zoners can and will just leave them for the IF, but at least parts of the free market party are gambling the increase in yellow zoners will make up for that.

Nice turn.

That we have to restart building the New York carrier shipyard from scratch is a setback, but a manageable one, and hardly the worst expected.
Otherwise - we need to address the food situation before the Milk and Honey initiative gets any more traction, but we intended to do it anyway.
Also I feel like we should research advanced materials to get more out of NOD tiberium claws.

Also the fact that Yellow Zoners likely make up a great deal of our top performing private sector jobs. Aka the ones that the FMP are about helping. Because if you are a Blue Zoner and looking to start a career, then you have the choices of joining the Initiative for a stable job that'll see you steadily climbing the seniority ladder unless you really screw up, or joining the minimal private sector. One which has difficulties matching the same pay scale as the Initiative in regards to how much your skills are worth, before you get started on all the standard risks that come with a business in the private sector.

Yellow Zoners on the other hand basically find that even if they join the Initiative, they'll reach a point early on which seems their climb up the seniority ladder drastically slow. So the ambitious Yellow Zoner is going to head to the private sector either from the start, or after a few years polishing their skills and picking up experience in the Initiative before leaving once they hit that promotion slow-down.

What are the specific uses and drawbacks of isolinear chips, and are silicon chips still useful in some cases?

More specifically, would current gen silicon but 4x more efficient be of any use? I'm still holding a torch for carbon chips that never got developed cause the experimental chip facility was a capstone project nobody wanted to pay for.

EDIT- Google says 9x more efficient, apparently. 3x faster, 1/3 less power.
