Without the reroll we'd have needed 10+ dice in Boston to save Erewhon over the next few turns.
The additional stability means that Boston is still needed to further extend its life, but we have much more time to to complete it.
Any word on whether we can develop isolinear chips as an alternative now that they're available? Because...
About North Boston: do we have WoG that if we don't do it ASAP Erewhon WILL die?
Because sacrificing immense efficiency advantage on maybies seems wasteful.
To be fair, the efficiency disadvantage of North Boston isn't
that big. Either way we get a
really big slug of Capital Goods after about 2000-2500 Progress worth of construction work, enough to basically ensure Plan completion. And North Boston would at least have the virtue of costing less R/die, which gives us more freedom of action to do other things like Bergen assuming a comparable resource investment in both cases.
But... given the spoiler that we're gonna get access to isolinear chips next turn, it might be more efficient to just develop
those and build entirely separate plants for them, since those will be far superior to anything coming out of North Boston in the immediate future (except, of course, a hypothetical isolinear chip line
in North Boston.
Because sure, that development and prototyping project will cost dice, but unless it costs
500 Progress, and arguably even if it does, it's still worth it.
In fact...
This plan pushes isolinear chip research and production as an alternative to North Boston. Which means we can work on Nuuk instead of North Boston, relax a bit on pouring all our Free dice into Heavy Industry and save some for the military, and otherwise be a bit more flexible.
However, to make room for
any Services spending, I had to cut the die spent on Bergen. We'll want the extra +Food from a second round of fertilizer plants soon enough, I think.
Please note that all budgeting here is
rough. I'm being pessimistic about deployment costs for drones, airborne lasers, and carrier shipyards, and about the development cost of isolinear chips.
I
could scrape cost savings out of Agriculture by dialing back the effort to push on and finish the freeze-drying plants, or abandon the Phase 3 railroad expansions in favor of apartments (which are likely to be MUCH needed soon).
