Did you remember the Initiative First Party? The literal Blue Zone Supremacists that want to kill all Yellow Zoners (simplifying but im sure Ozawa would love that)? And kind of use some very fash rhetoric. Also most of the GDIOnline posts you see show the character of those who post, and they have been pretty friendly even if there have been differences, so most people are not going around and calling each other hitler or nazis or whatever. Otherwise I thought it was a funny little omake, props.
GDIOnline is the result of the Discord channel crowdsourcing the forum snippets.
Considering it a 'normal' forum is sadly, naive. It's very much cleaned up and the writers don't really have a dog in the fight, so there's no incentive not to consider the matter calmly.

A: No. It's simple, not easy. If it was easy, then everyone would be doing it. It's easy to understand and be kind to people you agree with, doing the same to those who want things to be done differently from you is hard. But it's important.
Q: Even the assholes?
A: Especially the assholes.
Q: Why is that especially important? They're assholes.
A: Not to them. To them, you're the asshole, and unless you learn to understand them, that's all you'll ever be.
It takes effort to not read this as "spend effort to be kind to abusive assholes who will take advantage of you and derive joy from being cruel/derive joy from the suffering of others".
IMO, the problem here might be that you are using the word assholes with no further clarification, and there is a subset of assholes that on an individual and social scale, really should not have kindness extended to them. You have not alluded to this nuance in your omake.
Person in italics is giving shitty advice, and I now think that they are... something similarly shaped to a concern troll. They have not given any answer for why the positive regard from assholes is worth the effort of trying to be kind in the face of hostility.
Edit: This has been sticking in my craw for hours now.
Of the many candidates I had at my disposal, I placed my faith in you, Doctor Granger, and that hasn't gone yet. While I would have appreciated a bit more aggression about combating Tiberium Spread, your works in restoring our logistics, and your efforts to restore confidence in the GDI are paying dividends.
The funny thing is; as I'm replaying the game, Granger bitches to Boyle about how GDI's military too thin a fair bit. Guess what we had to overcorrect from after we pursued abatement like it owed us money?

This is the sole reference to any of the deeds of historical Hitler. Well, that and shooting himself. The holocaust, persecution, speeches, and more aren't mentioned at all. The only thing that is mentioned is a list demands that was voted in in 1920, and then pretty much ignored for the entirety of the existence of the Nazi party. Historically, the program is irrelevant beyond being a very early example of Nazi propaganda.
So, the question then is, why this reference? Why refer to an irrelevant piece of Nazi propaganda over major historical events like the entirety of the second world war?
Because when there are actual-factual unironic fascists around, they hammer really hard on the Godwin's Law button and on the "you're just comparing everyone you don't like to Hitler" button. And they prefer to just say "Hitler was bad, nothing else about him matters," because they don't want anyone pursuing the detail-level comparisons. Said detail-level comparisons would reflect poorly on them.
Everybody gangsta until Ozawa wins an election and proclaims the Fourth Blue Zone Co-Prosperity Reich.

W3N: News Alert
Good Evening from Manchester and welcome to W3N News Alert this just in after a close contested leadership election the Starbound Party has announced Mumeko Peralta as party leader and would propose a full slate of officers after the leadership election. The leadership election was in a tight deadlock with votes for Peralta and Sciullio head-to-head with Makart as a spoiler in the vote. With such a deadlock for the two winning candidates a coin toss was made and declared Peralta as the new leader of the Starbound Party. We are going live to her speech…
Speech of Mumeko Peralta:
It is my honor to lead this new party to the stars and beyond and while it is our birthright to explore and settle the majesty of space what I propose is to harden our defense and military capabilities. While I will push for the expansion of Philedelphia II for all of us to sit in its parliamentary rotunda it is my sincere hope that the GDI citizens of the Pacific will be able to contribute the success in our expedition to the majesty of the stars. Because of that this party will be lobbying for Space Command to reopen Tanegashima as one of the sites for our peaceful space exploration to bring pride to our citizens in the East.

Apparently the party spent so long trying to work out who'd end up in charge that they didn't actually get the time to work out the manifesto till... Well, until they were delivering it probably.

It should really be why you should not compare people to Kane or accuse people of being members of the Blackhand or something. I doubt most people on the planet in this quest know who Hitler even was. Blue zones being most likely. Everyone else is more worried about not dying.

Eh. Hitler and World War Two are recent enough that they'd tend to slosh around in the "we are vaguely aware of this in the fractional education we receive" sense for large parts of the planet. The details of how that went down, not so much.
On the other hand, when you say "most people on the planet" you're heavily, heavily leveraging the "most people live in Yellow Zones" angle. I'd say that since the Blue Zones are all very much places that have a reasonable standard of education, everyone there would know the basics about World War Two in the same sense that to find an American who doesn't know about the American Civil War, you have to look under a flat rock. They may get details wrong, or not give a shit, but they've heard of it.
@Ithillid I hope your trip went well. Do you think you will be getting the update out today or tomorrow? I also fully understand if the answer to that question is the update will be out when it is out.

Almost certainly tomorrow, potentially Saturday morning. Currently the update sits at less than a hundred words below 6k, and I have four mainline entries left to write, plus a handful of less direct interface entries. Will be trying to finish the mainline entries tonight, and starting in on remaining items and then finishing tomorrow.
So, the question then is, why this reference? Why refer to an irrelevant piece of Nazi propaganda over major historical events like the entirety of the second world war?
Truth be told, I did consider making more references to historical events, but I felt unsure about how to incorporate it so it it ended up on the cutting room floor.
For a look behind the scenes, there are two ways I tend to write omakes. The more common one involves a great deal of brainstorming, contemplation, research and often several rewrites and additions*. That is how the Culture Watch Wrap-up Awards 2053 was written.
The other way, far rarer, is more comparable to having my muse ambush me with a two-by-four over the head and demanding that I write whatever I suddenly got rattling around in my head. That's what happened here, with me writing it on-and-off over a couple of hours and then tossing it out. There were things I could've done differently, but I think I'll leave it as is.
Just some guy in an election season asking that people remember that the people they're arguing with online are also human beings who deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. Maybe he could've done a better job of it, but I'm willing to consider any such flaws as part of the omake.
On the bright side, I've learned a very important lesson: if you want to receive tons of feedback on your omake, write about Hitler. No. Bad lesson. Don't learn that.
More seriously: a couple of the ideas that got left on the cutting room floor are still rattling around, but even on the off-chance that they coalesce into a sequel or something, I'll probably try to take my time on that. Especially since I was already working on something else when the aforementioned two-by-four muse ambush happened. Hopefully I'll get that done sooner rather than later.
*Sometimes I even contact the QM to ask for clarification on certain points. I haven't done it for this quest yet, but it's something I will probablydefinitively do for the next omake once I've made some more progress. Because while I have a decent enough grasp on 'Barca' and 'Il Profesore' by now, I've put enough thought into the Italian Nod scene that I want to be positive that nothing about it contradicts quest canon.
