Hmm looks like were going to WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! BOYZ! Let loose the dogs of war, and the birds of prey! We got a Kingdom to raze! By the way, are there Orks in the MLP Verse?

Big whoop, some of our people got enslaved, we have more shit to deal with first, like the war of cleansing we're fighting, and the Yak civil war about to pop. And now you guys want to launch a war against two nations we have just about no information on? While they have magic to boot? At least wait until we open diplomatic channels and launch some intrigue actions before you go declaring jihad.
It is one new Kingdom. The other is nothing more than an Island that houses pirates that are a threat to trade and also not something that anyone would care if we killed them they are all outcasts anyways.

A Mystery Solved: The mystery surrounding the so-called "Ghost Ships" has been dispelled by news from the Neighponese fleet regarding their investigation into the cause. A Qilin naval patrol intercepted a vessel of unknown make in the vicinity of a major sea lane: a pirate vessel. The ensuing boarding of the ship and the interrogation of the surviving crew revealed a great deal of information, and little of it bodes well.

The vessel was crewed by Equines, but not the Crystal Ponies that your people have already become familiar with. These ponies were possessed of multiple sub races, from standard Earth Ponies to winged Pegasi to a few examples of the magic-wielding Unicorns. An inspection of their holds resulted in the boarding party finding products manufactured in Neighpon and Gryphus, proof of their acts of Piracy. As for the people who had gone missing aboard the ghost ships...

The pirates had taken the crews of the trade ships they had plundered prisoner as "exotic goods". They had been sold into slavery.

Specifically, they had been auctioned off in the ports of a vast Kingdom known as Maretonia, which, according to the maps recovered from the pirate vessel, was just South of the Crystal Protectorate.
... Well, I think I know where some prime real estate exists for our Nieghpon allies. At least the island, MAYBE, if we think we can get away with it, some of parts of tips of Maretonia, but that is a very big MAYBE, and depends on if it is worth the economic costs, political costs, and potential bloodshed for it.

yeah one thing people seem to be forgetting is that our spies are damn good at they're job so i say once we curb stomp the pirates we send our spies to do what they do best. we might not even have to fight the war ourselves since this is a more normal problem then sombra so assassination should work this time

Alright then, we send our spies to take over the pirate haven and use it as a cover to raid their shipping and maybe we'll find our people pressganged into the ships.

There is slavery in existence in the real world today. The U.S. doesn't go to war to free them.
1. most of those aren't established countries, but individual groups or people.
2. Our world is in a very delicate political state where any sort of open war or sudden movement of troops outside regular patterns could very easily tip the balance of power into an utter shitfest where everybody dies and nukes start flying. or at the very least lots and lots of bad things happen.
3. When the fuck did we start playing "America the Simulator"? This is Gryphus, and we're Emperor Garrick. That's the in-character I'm talking about.
Again we know nothing about this Kingdom how it is run what use slaves have in it if at all. Whether they just sell to others or keep slaves as status symbols. And the Crystal Empire is going to be a dead land for a long time no matter what we do. The lands near the city might recover faster but the majority of the lands is still dead and barren. This is the work of decades not years. The only way to speed it up is if we can figure out a way to use the crystal heart to speed up recovery and even that is not guaranteed to be possible. So no they are not going to come to us because all they see on their border is a bunch of useless deadland. They also have no idea about the crystal ponies since none of our ships carry any. All they know about is Griffon, Diamond Dogs, and the Neighpon races. They don't know about the Yaks either.
Which means they'll still come looking for the Yaks, Griffins, and Neighpon races. Now we have to build sea defences as well.

Blockading will lead to a war and we have no idea how strong of a military they have or if they have a navy to match our own forces.
The plan being that we mass enough navy to blockade all the ports, there will only be one entrance their land army could make.

They would need to march through the Crystal Protectorate. A population center scarred yes, but so anti-slavery at this point they will likely not accept any surrenders and ask for no mercy, with the fully operational battlestation fully operational Crystal Heart hovering on top of the city.
We fortify that and the enemy will need to march through only slightly less inhospitable terrain we had to deal with, with a very long supply chain, only to face a more motivated and comparatively better supplied defense of Goddamn Stalingrad.

Wait until we know more about the way things works before you make any assumptions. And they wouldn't look for Yaks because they don't know about their existence.

That's all we know. What if some bigger nation is keeping Libertalia around to menace the weaker ships of an enemy nation, and they'd take offense to our crushing off them? What if Libertalia has a massive army of Pirates to come to it's defense and attack those who would do it harm? What if Maretonia has allies? What if they're armies are just plain better than ours? These are things we need to know before we start waving our dick around.

Let's gather every information we can get first before we make any plans for either the Kingdom or the Pirates, cause I would like to know what we will be facing if we do come to blows.

Wait until we know more about the way things works before you make any assumptions.
I'm just running off basic economy. We have a resource that they use in at least some way, shape, or form. Attacking us is literally the only way to get it. Unless we manage to scare them so hard they decide to just nope out of doing so, which would require some show of force, they have no choice but to come for us, or their economy suffers. Now, I'm not saying it isn't possible to settle this quickly and without major bloodshed, but there will be some form of conflict. The only question is whether we deal with it defensively, sneakily, or aggressively. I personally prefer the latter when it comes to something as vile and monstrous as slavery, but that's just me.
And they wouldn't look for Yaks because they don't know about their existence.
Sorry, I somehow switched the Diamond Dogs and Yaks in my head. It's late for me.

You know what I am washing my hands of this. If you all want to go and start a war that is unneeded go ahead I am not going to help any plan that trys that anyways. Hopefully enough people agree with me so we get plans that don't throw us into another war that is unsustainable.

Pirates do not stand and fight. There is no unity amongst them and no one is going to risk a war for a bunch of expendable scum which is all bandits and pirates are. Maretonia is not going to care since the pirates are outcasts and fringe groups that they at best ignore. We are not fighting Maretonia we are dealing with pirates that are a threat to our shipping and trade. That is something that needs to happen so it is not dick waving it is doing our fucking job.

Omake: A Pirate’s life for me (Semi-Canon)
Omake: A Pirate's life for me! @Questor

The Sea of Selene was quiet, too quiet. The pony with an eyepatch looked out from the tavern on Port Royal on Libertalia at the setting sun, idly sipping his cider. Down in the plaza was the auction for slaves. The auction master cried out, "... and what will ye all bid for this fine mare" and pulled forward a crystal mare with an inactive Sombra helmet on her head, "She's a fine fighter and not a bad looker either! She'd make a fine addition to any of ye crews! Bidding starts at 350 pieces of silver!"

The grizzled pony sat back and watched the various ponies and other races bid on the crystal pony. They seemed to miss something important, not surprising, few people noticed things on this island until it was staring right in front of them, and that was that Sombra was gone. He gestured to the wench to fill up his goblet with more wine. Sombra being gone would affect things here on Libertalia, and while the North has always been a bit of mystery rumors percolate. A Warrior Queen, an Immortal God King Eagle, and a Dragon Emperor, for years they were just that... rumors. They had to be rumors since Sombra was very much a real threat, but Sombra was gone... and it made this old man think there might have been a grain of truth to those rumors. He saw his loyal lieutenant, who was also his wife trot in with a smirk, that was never good. She wasn't even wearing her good eyepatch

"My Dear, the Crimson Comet is 10 days late, and you come in smiling." he drowned the last of his goblet, "Go ahead say it mare."

His unicorn wife sat down across from him, "I told you we shouldn't send those raids north" she said adjusting her eyepatch. Damn things were always itchy. "Sparrow's told us what he saw before those Neighponese picked up our ship."

"Damn it all!" it was a risk but he had bet on the Sombra power vacuum causing enough chaos to pick up some coin from Neighpon. It apparently didn't. "Come to gloat that we should have kept doing business with the Sheiks of Maretonia?"

She chortled, "Oh indeed. Spice trade is always profitable, even if the Sheiks have a tendency to take eyes."

The stallion resigned himself to the fate of his wife always being right, even if he led a company of "privateers" who did a bit of freelancing his wife had the better sense when it came to business. "So what really happened to our crew?"

The wife adjusted her eyepatch showing the crystal artifact that replaced the eye she lost to a Maretonian guard years ago, it glowed, "We need to get out of the business of raiding north. I fear that we might have awoken a sleeping giant. Griffons, Diamond Dogs, Crystal Equines and all the races of Neighpon?"

The old pony glowered and shook his head, "That eye of yours tells you that?"

His wife shrugged, "It shows me what our captain sees, and Captain Loose Lips never could keep a secret. He's told the Qilin and likely the Griffons about Libertalia and Maretonia. He hasn't mentioned us thankfully cause he's not an idiot and I would personally take his tongue. However we should move to Maretonia."

The husband looked out at the auction still going on, now a Griffon male slave who was giving the guards a bit of trouble, and needed to be restrained by two pegasi, "Should we tell anyone else about what's coming for Port Royal?"

His wife laughed, "Darling, we need them to buy time for our escape before they get here. I say nuts to Port Royal"

OOC: Not my best but something piqued my interest about a husband and wife pirate team who's first reaction is to run and leave Libertalia rather than fight the might what they think is coming for them

Of secondary interest is another location detailed in the Pirate vessel's navigational charts: an Island labeled "Libertalia". Further questioning revealed the island to be a sort of haven for pirates, smugglers, fugitives and other outcasts. A place without a government where gold and steel are the only laws. It had apparently been the pirate's main port of call.

The public, and you, are having trouble processing all this information. One thing is certain: something has to be done to get your people back.

...

Well then.

Grypuhs rules the waves intensifies.

No offense, but I find it odd you're willing to generalize Pirates but not Slavers.

Because we captured and got the information from the pirates. We can't be certain of anything they say but these are not the first pirates we have dealt with. We know what they are doing and we know that they are outcasts and fringe groups. Also no real power is going to risk anything for pirates because it is not worth it to protect them from something that can wipe them out. As for the slavers that is because we have no information on what they do and what role slavery plays at all in their kingdom. You keep saying we have resources they will want and need but unless their economy is based on slavery it is unlikely they are going to go looking for our people. And even if it is coming to us is a waste of time and resources because we are so far and they need to cross a wasteland to even get close to us. It took a massive supply train for us to invade and that was with no one trying to stop us. Any invading force is not going to be left unmolested while they cross. And if they manage to capture people now they have to transport them back through that hostile territory. So it is very unlikely that they are even going to consider an attack.

Reminds me of Bonnie and Clyde. Didn't end too well for 'em...

*lots of chants for invading and death*

Scout them. Learn of them. Perhaps slavery IS illegal. Perhaps this was done without official knowledge. Perhaps they didn't fully realize our people were of sapience. Perhaps the government is strong, perhaps it is weak. Perhaps we can put pressure on it easily to deliver our people back unto us. Perhaps perhaps perhaps.

Speed is of the essence here though, so it is best we send an official presence, a convoy. Ship of trade, ships of war to defend and official ambassador along with our infiltrators to work their way into this nation to learn of it swiftly, to begin finding leads and pulling strings as swift as can be.

That all while setting fire to a little island no one cares about is basically the jist of what I'm going for.

I mostly want to take the island so the Neighpon can colonize it. Since scale is off for the maps it might be bigger than people think and would make a good colony anyways.

So a bunch of people have a knee jerk reaction to attack Maretonia, which is understandable, but I do agree with the idea of sending some diplomatic envoys to the ponies to see about releasing our folks. Also agree with the idea of working with Neighpon to burn that pirate haven down and do joint ownership of the island if it's able to hold two naval bases or just one large co-opted base for naval supremecy on the seas. Fuck pirates and fuck having a base of them a stone's throw away from our shores.

Because we captured and got the information from the pirates. We can't be certain of anything they say but these are not the first pirates we have dealt with. I was thinking they'd go the sea route, but fair enough. Although I would like to point out that there are more reasons to want slaves than just economy, and the mere presence of the practice suggests they have one of those reasons. Yes, we may be able to convince them there are better targets, but that would still mean we have to appear very dangerous, especially since as soon as we fix the Crystal Empire, if they're still there, we just solved their supply problem for them. Again, we don't have to fight them directly. Hell, if we can diplomance this whole problem away, that would be cool. But chances are we will have to dedicate a fair amount of resources to at least looking big.

The Crystal Empire is decades away from being restored all we are doing right now is helping to fix the city and the land closest to it so they can better support the pop on their own. And again we know nothing about the Kingdom and their actual stance on slavery. After all slavery is illegal in most places around the world but it still happens all the time anyways. And the sea route is even worse for them between our own new ship design and the expansion that is happening not to mention they are unlikely to know where we actually are since the ships got captured in the deep ocean waters any attack will be a full on war anyways and not a slave raid. You do not risk a war with a power you know nothing about for slaves that is how you end up wastes lives and resources.

Yeah... pirate haven getting smashed the second we and Neighpon can scrounge up enough Navy. After that we'll be having words with Maretonia.
