You know now that we are opening up our borders and have multiple neighbors to talk to we should really get a second diplomacy action. I mean we are the diplomat king as much as the merchant king and adequately dealing with our neighbors is going to require more than a single one whatever is out there or we choose to do.

For the record I am not against conquest. I am against conquest as the first option people want to take.

Also cannons are a go.

So... I think we need to go around collecting the orange light of avarice ritualistically from our population while being the best merchant and ushering in all the prosperity reaping all the money so we can ascend to godhood after our grand wuxia final trading spree where we sell the world and become the supreme god of trade and avarice while our waifu for waifu goes and fights all the things ritualistically collecting all of the martial will and red light of rage from our people while defeating one by one the greatest warriors to ascend as the supreme goddess of acid vomit blood and war and combat after her final grand wuxia battle against the strongest monk or an outer god or discord or the old god of war or something

Yes, and maybe we can incarnate our daughter with both us and our wife's power or primordial essence of badass Dragon and teach her so she can CHIM once she has a supreme moment of wuxia dying badassery or heavenly wuxia existential crisis.

I feel ashamed that I am enough of a nerd to actually understand what this says.

We are omnivores not mostly carnivorous. We like meat and fish but it isn't the main part of our diet.
we're half predatory avian. It's basic biology to note that we have a predator's beak and assume that we're biased towards meat consumption.
Except conquest is rarely profitable unless all resistance is wiped out or we spend decades turning the population.
I'm sorry what? You realized Empires were some of the most prolific and powerful government until maybe a hundred years ago? And even then that paradigm was mostly broken by all the powerful empires being crammed together on a small continent with horrific escalatory chains of alliances.

Why to people insist on injecting modern political philosophy in a medieval, fantastical setting so utterly divorced from modern realities it's beyond pretentious? You do realize that if we have to assume modern real world reasoning for why 'conquest is bad m'kay' (which I don't disagree with) then we also have to acknowledge Garrick would have never been made king with half as much authority as he had. Either his heritage would have been suppressed and a major noble took the throne, civil war with tons of pretenders that can't be realistically refuted, or the nobility would have wringed so many concessions from Garrick for the crown he would have been barely more than a figurehead.

There are so many conceits inherent to the setting that making military aggression the hill to die on is asinine in the extreme.

And we're having to agitate so aggressively regarding it because everyone is so arbitrarily resistant to it. Anyone who sincerely thinks it would be easier to peacefully vassalize a completely foreign nation in light of our supposed cultural and economic superiority needs to lay off the koolaid

You're confusing what's right with what's normal. They have zero relationship. The fact that Garrick got his power in a way that is inherently wrong doesn't stop him using it badly from also Being wrong. Remember: Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.

Really, discussions of conquest can wait until we get all the info we need, but IT IS an option we might want to consider in some cases. It just shouldn't be our first option.

Certainly if they attack us (or any ally we make) or give us a casus belli we should take advantage of it, like we did with Aquileia.

We just need an excuse to make it acceptable on the international scene once it's known. If we also show that we actually treat conquered people well and not as second-rate citizens this will probably be enough to avoid a coalition against us (which might happen if we get too trigger-happy)

Basically, war and military conquest is a card we can play, and it can be a profitable one...but it shouldn't be our first resort.

If, for example, one of the four main Yak clans (or even ALL four of them) attacked us i'd strongly push for conquest and annexation (if feasible), followed by heavy investments to bring them up to our standards to show them that life in our empire is actually BETTER than whatever they had before. Basically what happened with Aquileia (though with Yaks it would be harder, as we do not have the same shared history).

And, of course, if we become rich/strong enough other MIGHT want to join us like the Diamond Dogs did, no war required. Or we might try to form some kind of federal government (like the U.S.A.), or something like the European Union (free trade, similar/shared laws...)

Well we found the yaks and what we assume are the Neighpon cant wait to see whose to the south. Though i will say if we want to start having talks with Neighpon we should focus our navy a small bit more atleast get cannons on them if not get bigger and better ships to ensure our coast remains safe. We may have been the naval superpower against Aquilias but we have no idea how strong Neighpons navy is.

Well, that's certainly one option...
It's certainly the best option that is. That much wuxia and tengen toppa can only lead to a profit factor so high that our family's profit factor will PIERCE the heavens and breach the godheads. If profit is profit than that is incarnating all the profit then it is best path.

The Land of Shadows
The Peregrines expedition left with almost a hundred Griffons and Diamond Dogs. Only five return alive.

The survivors are nearly mad with fear. They speak of a frozen wasteland, desecrated by foul magicks, the land itself seeming to be actively hostile as the members of the expedition died one by one, swallowed by crevasses, stabbed by crystalline growths, struck down by sudden lightning or flayed alive by unnatural blizzards.

Then they mention how they came upon a dark city, somehow shielded from the ice and snow, great spires of hallowed out crystal tinged black by some malevolent force, a bizarre feeling of mental oppression emanating from it and driving all who beheld it to fear and madness.

As the scouts finally decided to turn back and leave this cursed land behind them, they were set upon by what could only have been the ruler of this realm of nightmares. A quadrupedal horned Equine seemingly made of living shadow, his mere gaze sending grizzled warriors into fits of primal terror.

He personally slew all but a handful of the expedition, and the survivors believe they escaped only because he allowed them to, that he wished for them to tell all they met of what fate awaited them.

You were tempted to merely dismiss their reports as the ravings of half-starved lunatics. But the unseasonable frost slowly creeping over the mountains into your southern provinces tells you otherwise, as does the massive, unnatural blizzard originating from the South, slowly but inexorably making its way north towards the Empire. Almost as if it was...walking towards you.

Discovered "Crystal Empire".
Invasion Imminent.

You rolled a 1. To all those people who were talking about going to war: wish granted. You're fighting Unicorn Sauron now.

Well fuck, there better be lots of valuable minerals because that land did NOT look arable in the slightest.

@Questor So i gotta ask the 1 we rolled for how they reacted to us right, but what was the roll for how well off they are like the yaks rolled and ended up being nomads?
