And where does it say that i thought the mountains where what was at the edge of our territory of aquilias?
The Yaks control the plains and steppes the mountainous area that is like our own is left alone that is why we have the option to settle the west because it is no different than our current homelands. We are not moving into the plains or anything like that.

The option itself even says there is a significant portion for us to settle.
While the lands immediately beyond the Black Cliffs of Aquileia are similar in terrain and appearance to much of the lands of Gryphus, past a certain point the trees give way to vast arid plains, with little flora beyond grasses, wildflowers and the occasional shrub, only the occasional mountain or hill breaking up the monotony.

[ ] Settling the Western Fromtier: While the Western Steepes are largely inhospitable and unsuitable for permanent settlement, a significant portion of the land beyond the Black Cliffs is quite similar to your core territory. The Yaks don't appear to have any claims on these stretches of forest, and they may hold resources that could add to the economy. Even if they don't, it would be nice to have some settlements outside of your heartland to make interaction with the Yaks easier, or as a buffer should they prove hostile. Subsidize the construction of a few towns and encourage some of your people to establish homesteads on the unsettled land. Cost: 1000. Time: Two Years. Reward: New Western Settlements Established, Additional Income.

So basically we want to put watch towers on the mountains itself and have people settle past the mountains in the area similar to ours. I can get behind that but only AFTER we see whats in the rumor mill and what we find south.

Yep for my current prototype plan I have the towers being built but the settling option is not taken until the next turn so the towers are finished before we settle the entire area.

I am just hoping people don't bandwagon the western frontier. We still have options that need to be taken before that is a preferred option. We have the lumber yards/logging camps, and the wetland draining options in stewardship that are better options for now. With those options done we can then focus our stewardship actions on supporting our new regions to the west and if the south is safe-ish there too.

Agreed the settling west takes two years to complete and we are not pressed for a need of more land also we don't even know if we should even bother settle west resource wise. In the event we do settle though I would like to have logging action done may speed up construction and provide wood for trade and keep our people living there warm.

The lands in the west we are settling are forested and mountainous like our core territory. The logging camps add trade goods to the yaks and probably make building the new settlements easier. As for resources we do have enough but it is better to shore up the core first so we can use as many actions to improve our new regions. The west will be a major trade center for the Yaks, it is also a new source of mines which might have more precious materials, like gold, silver, gems, and later on when we start looking for it coal, oil, bauxite/aluminum, and other minerals for industrialization.

I am curious to see how the soldiers and knights react to having to basically babysit a dragon i imagine it will be quiet adorable.

Turn 10 Rumor Mill
The Age of Organized Medicine: Doctors, healers, apothecaries, and medically inclined Griffons across the Empire take keen interest in the founding of the Imperial Office of Disease Control, a first-of-it's-kind administrative innovation in the never ending war against illness. Now physicians across the Empire can coordinate and share information on the latest diseases, treatments, and medical knowledge. Some optimistic souls dare to state that this is the first step on the road to a future free of sickness.

Draconic Regent: The Imperial Court is abuzz with the news of the Imperial Dragon's latest "promotion". Many had speculated, and feared, that the long-lived reptile would be placed in line for the throne. The news of her being named designated regent has placated some and concerned others. Still, few dare to voice their concerns aloud, especially seeing as it will be several years until the young Dragon is capable of assuming the position, assuming she is needed at all.

Red Sails: There have been unusual and concerning sightings of strange ships with red masts in the Eastern Sea.

Some Fishing and Naval vessels have attempted to make contact with the ships and open dialogues with their crews, but the unknowns keep their distance, and no Griffon dares to pursue them into the uncharted sea from which they came. No one knows who the ships belong to or why they are here, but speculation abounds in the absence of facts.

Ok I dont get the reference, someone tell me on a scale of "oh this is manageable" to "oh we are f!cked."

Red-seal ships (朱印船 Shuinsen) were Japanese armed merchant sailing ships bound for southeast asian ports with red-sealed letter patents issued by the early Tokugawa shogunate in the first half of the 17th century. Between 1600 and 1635, more than 350 Japanese ships went overseas under this permit system.

Well I guess that settles a martial action for next turn, send ships east wards to at least give them an idea, hey we are over here, even if in the end both sides want to be more left alone.

Heh, reading the OP i noticed the exotic goods part.

3. Exotic Goods from the East: Neighpon produces numerous goods suitable for trade, from exotic foodstuffs to luxurious silks and lacquerware.

and given the fact that they have limited resources and we have an abundant amount of metals...

Looks like we found our trading partner. assuming we can get past the isolationist part of things

It is the Neighpon the Japanese expy for this quest. As for how worried not too much they are a bit isolationist but are unlikely to launch any aggressive campaigns against us.

So we have Mongol expy to the west, Japan expy to the east. Either there is no one to the South or more than likely it is a China expy.

Good catch that it was one of the starting options.

Zebrica are in an unknown spot so we could be near them potentially, will have to see what the terrain is like as we go south.

I distinctly remember that the Qilin have Divine Intervention as an advantage, so trading partners will be for the best.
