Most of the food load is meat for the Wolves and Demigryphs, and the only place we can store that is the cold rooms on the Steam Wagons. That's where the maximum capacity comes from.
As a point of order, this isn't strictly speaking true. The meat doesn't need to be stored in a cold room if the meat is still alive. This presents other problems with needing to give opportunity to graze, but if the primary problem is storage, well, that's a way to expand our storage.

Borek mission is to get reinforcement. To that he have been given a bag full of diamond 200 years ago.

That it took him 200 years and he (unless spesified otherwise) is the only one still alive means the original goal of reinforcement is now either evacuate or just confirming if there's anyone left.

We havent talk to Borek yet if the Karak is destroyed and that is no one left then what to do. Its more of a we'll cross that brige when we get there, but already there are clues that he will likely go slayer without going back.

Am i right so far?
Borek is insistent that the goal of the Expedition will not be decided until they know the current status of Karag Dum.
Also theres different degrees of needing reinforcements.
Its possible they recognized they're getting cut off and asked for reinforcements so they can break the siege. In which case not getting reinforcements just means closing up the gates.

Its possible they're facing inevitable defeat, and asked for reinforcements to save them while they withdraw deeper into the Hold.

[] Write-in: Take Borek, Asarnil and Deathfang, the half the cavalry, and Lillijana to scout out the situation at Dum while the steam wagons continue to Dolgan territory with the Wizards and half the cavalry to pick up supplies.

I'm interested in this write-in, but I can't help but feel it leaves us awfully low on magical firepower for the Chaos Wastes. I'd be a lot more comfortable switching my vote to this if we took some more Wizards with us; I really want at least one or two of our known "reliable" Magisters along for backup. And when it says "half the cavalry", is that half of the Winter Wolves and half of the Knights of Taal? Or is it all of one of those and all of the other stay back? I'd prefer the latter, honestly. The Demigryphs have a top speed much closer to the shadowsteeds, which could become tactically important if we need to run away from something.

[X] Press on

Write-ins are not automatically better than QM-given options.

The entire point of this expedition's setup is to bring as over-gunned an elite force as possible to Karag Dum. The steam-wagons are carrying a ton of cannons and cannon-shot in addition to all the kittybird food. And there hasn't been an enemy we've met so far that won't die to cannons, not even a castle. Ultima Ratio Dawi.

He can match it on foot.

Yep. Johann is a fucking beast - he can match a galloping horse for speed and is tireless.

Although I am curious - what're Johann's dietary needs like? He's not fully gilded, so he probably still needs some food, but is it less than an ordinary person? If he was fully gilded, would he no longer need to eat just like he no longer needs to breathe?

I feel much better after a good night's sleep. Amazing how much the simple things can help.

After some consideration, while some of the Lord Magisters were mysterious, they could also be quite open in talks and collaborations where they didn't have all the knowledge. So our question to Egrimm does not diminish our mysteriousness!

He's gilded his internal organs, so the answer might actually be "nothing". His gilded organs might just do their job with needing food intake.

Any of the write in options will severely impact morale. It's like admitting that things went to shit.

Best thing Mathilde can do is keep her wories to herself and project an aura of confidence :

"Sure we lost a carriage, it wasn't the first loss of the expedition and it won't be the last. Trust me, we don't do this kind of expeditions without sacrifice. Press on, we have a Karak to find won't be the first this expedition finds anyway. Now, forwards, you don't want to live forever now do you!"

You know, kinda ominous that all the slayers died, and now Gotrek and most engineers on board died with the Urmskaladrak.

The ship that was named after a dead dragon.

Yeah, the ship and name were cursed from the start, and i kind of worry about Asarnil and Deathfang.

As far as the new write in goes. My stance on it is best expressed by this song.

I'm not necessarily against splitting the party, but I think this whole idea of not bothering to bring the steam wagons the whole way is dumb, what if we need the space to transport survivors or treasures back? We can dump guns or ammo in favor of either of those things.
We might also be able to use the steam wagons to pull regular wagons if we have to.

But on splitting the party, with our limited food it may be sensible to have at least Mathilde scout ahead to reach Dum and get targets for the main force before it arrives, though only doing so in the final stretch, after the convoy has left behind its food sources, but at the same time, doing so would rob the wagons of their magic road for at least a little while.
It's an interesting decision.

@BoneyM

We have an Ice Witch and a Jade who can cast ice spells. Can we jury rig a cold room for some meat by having them summon some blocks of ice that we can cut up and store with the meat, like an old-fashioned ice-box, to improve our overall meat-carrying capacity?

This karak is notoriously isolated and insular in facing enemies. Whenever and whomever threathen Davi civilization, their enemies is chaos.
This is basically whf Cadia.

I would have thought that will create a mindset that is far more practical and cynical and realistic then Borek.

Borek is either the worse procastinstor in old world or he got distracted.. a lot.
