How many of those Dwarfs are going to stick around though? many are from other holds and will probably just go home after the Karak is retaken. And sure, but it's not like they didn't try before, and it still fell. Especially because of how far it is from most of the other Dwarf holds. And my thought was less about moving back and forth for the day to day, and more about emergencies, especially because we'd have to build away from the main population of the hold. We're talking what, a couple weeks between something happening and our arriving at K8P if something happens? That's a fair bit of time.
Everything you've just said is wrong. I already did the basic numbers, 30,000+ between the camp followers and the vagabonds not including any actual throngs besides the ones explicitly trying to retake K8P. That's ignoring most of those 30k are soldiers who are going to be looking for wives or bringing in families.

And as for being cut off. We have a safe for now underground passage and a port to Karak Varr. Isolated this place is not, at least for Dwarfs.

As for distance, I have no clue what the hell you mean. So what, we have to set up outside the Holds proper? That means tens of miles- if that. If you look at the K8P there is an explicitly abandoned and tapped mine in the SE that we could probably use as the basis for our hideaway. And as for emergencies? Boney has literally said its 5 days simple ride for us, 3 at a fast clip, and if it's a real emergency we can probably ask for a gyrocopter ride. Weeks is blatantly false and stupidly pessimistic. If anything at K8P is going down that badly and we're needed, chances are the Dwarfs would let us know. And any real issue in Stirland is likely a big enough issue the Empire as a whole is going to partially get involved, or is self inflicted.
I think that after this adventure is done that we go back to Stirland. That's where our fief is and we have a duty to run it well. We asked to be a knight, so let's well be a knight.
Do you have any idea how many fiefs were historically run in absentia? How utterly meaningless our presence is to the wellbeing of our estate? We've already done tons for our fief, our presence doesn't magically actually make us be fulfilling our vows more. We're talking an honest to god week commute once a year. A commute we can spend studying and reading. How terrible.

Mathilde is a member of the (low) nobility. It's not her job to run or even visit her estate. It's her steward's. It's her job to spend the surplus her steward extracts from the peasantry.

Well to be fair the argument that it would take us a couple weeks to get to K8P if something happens could hold water if you account for the time it would take for a messenger to travel from the Hold to wherever we are in order to tell Mathilde about it.

A good, old fashioned pigeon coop, or if we want to get fancy, a trusted messenger with an object enchanted with five charges of Mathildes' Shadowsteed should be enough to get us read in within days of anything happening.

@BoneyM are the dorfs skilled enough that they could forge gromril so fine it's thread-like?

Asking for a friend who likes to wear grey robes.

If we used something that's already armor-like, such as silk, as base for enchanted armor robes, could we get a better rating than just the spell?

Total War: Warhammer - The Dusk & The Dawn
*Scene opens on upon a blazing sun shining its light upon the lands of the Empire. As the camera slowly pans across the sky an elderly male voice is heard.*

"The Dawn, a symbol of hope across the world. The light of the sun that banishes the darkness, driving away the monsters that reside within and bringing hope to the people of the world…"

*The sunlight begins to shift, taking on a reddish hue as the camera pans down to a burning Empire town. The screams of civilians can be heard as Warriors of Chaos rampage through the settlement, slaughtering all who cross their path. Of note are a horde of unarmored Empire citizens descending on their fellows with ritual daggers along with other markings that signify them as Cultists of the Ruinous powers. When the voice speaks again it has taken on a mocking tone.*

"Such foolishness! They delude themselves into thinking that they are safe. But the Light does not protect them, it blinds them to my power!"

*Camera pans up to reveal a Chaos Dragon and the Sorcerer riding it. Raising his staff into the air the Sorcerer conjures a beam of light that scythes through a unit of Empire Swordsmen. The Camera focuses on the Dragon riding sorcerer and a name appears*

The Lord of the Cabal, Egrimm van Horstmann

*Camera sweeps across the burning city as the sound of hooves upon stone can be heard, then a group of riders is shown riding out of the town. A dozen Pistoleers racing away from the town as Chaos Knights ride in pursuit and Egrimm soon joins them by casting Net of Amyntok trapping all but one of the Pistoleers who are quickly cut down by the Chaos Knights.*

"And soon I shall show you the true Light of Chaos!!"

*As the Chaos Knights chase after the lone surviving Pistoleer the camera pans around to Egrimm, his form framed by the smoke from the burning village and the setting sun behind him. Then the camera cuts to the Pistoleer riding into a Fog Bank and disappearing, followed shortly by the Chaos Knights. There is silence for a moment before the sudden sound of clashing blades and dying Chaos Knights can be heard...then more silence before a different voice is heard, a female one that was filled with contempt*

"Or maybe you are the one who is blind, traitor."

*The fog parts revealing the slaughtered bodies of the Chaos Knights and the figure standing in the middle of it all. It shows a woman wearing grey wizard robes atop a horse of shadows and with a Greatsword in her hand that glows with magical power. Finally with the fog swirling around her a name appears*

The Dusk Rider, Mathilde Weber
*With a sweep of Mathilde's sword the Fog recedes revealing an Empire army, one that has cannons and handgunners aimed right at Egrimm van Horstmann. The Chaos Sorcerer wheels his steed around as the guns open fire, the army of the Empire charging towards the burning town. At it's head is Mathilde along with a unit of Knights wielding similarly glowing Greatswords and with the image of a Greatsword severing the head of a snake upon their shields*

"You think that we cower from monsters like you, but when the Night falls it is us who the monsters fear!"

*Egrimm wheels as he reaches the town and from the flames emerges an army of Chaos Warriors that charge out to meet the Empire army. Camera begins to pan out as the two sides freeze just before the two charges meet each other and the title of the DLC appears in a wave of mist*

I know it is too late given that the omake is just finished, but I've figured out the perfect way to allow Roswita to be Mathilde's designated rival:

Make Mathilde a Dwarf Lord.

One of Mathilde's unique character features is that she can acquire Favor with certain factions (mainly the Dwarves and High Elves) which she can spend to get access to various regiments of renown and faction specific units. I am working on the About section of the omake that goes into more detail, but essentially the way Mathilde's faction will work is that she will need to acquire favor in order to unlock new units and special items.

Similarly I am thinking that Egrimm's faction will have a mechanic that allows him to recruit certain Empire units under the justification that he has secretly spread a cult through the empire and they are actually cultists using Empire technology.

Probably a stupid question, but Mathilde has a knife on her or something right? I know it's not listed on the character page as equipment, but I'm writing something and it makes more sense to me to stab someone with a knife than a greatsword when trying to be quick and quiet about it. Still, I'd rather write it accurately either way.

Say what would be a good name for Mathilde's faction in the DLC? The idea is that she is a Horde style faction that doesn't take control of settlements but instead mainly sets up hidden bases in Allied cities and gains "Favor" which can be used to acquire new types of units.

That last omake made me imagine Mathilde as memetic Creed, with Asarnil and a platoon of steam tanks infiltrating von Horstmann inner sanctum.

It's a horrible image.

Hmm. You know, we have good enough stats that if we went to a smaller polity like a Border Princedom or a small Tilean city state, we could be two advisers in one.

I'd say we've got 3 stats high enough, with the only real issue with Martial being a lack of experience in command.

Pretty sure Mathilde would be regarded as too scary to hire as an advisor in such polities, being way better than whoever rules the place. Too much of a risk she'll end up running everything.

Looking at our stats and considering BoneyM's previous QM statements regarding Ranald's priesthood, I have now fallen in love with the idea of Mathilde turning up unannounced at a religious Conclave as a representative of Ranald's clergy, surrounded by cats.

Obviously she'd have no idea what she'd be doing there either (the cats herded her here unexpectedly) but will she let it show? Never! Bluff your way though!

Would we have the time though? Being an advisor isn't just raw stats : it's also experience and work. Otherwise an Elector Count wouldn't need an advisor in whatever his speciality is - but he doesn't have the time to do the job full-time, and so he delegates to an advisor.

Well to be fair the whole Fog of War trait is basically built around doing stuff like that and the theme of the DLC is a shadow war that the main Empire isn't even aware of. Although speaking of Asarnil he'd basically be one of the high level "Favor" units that Mathilde's faction could recruit, it would be expensive as hell but it would be worth it.

I mean Anton, the sweet cinnamon roll that his is, had very low Diplomacy stats the last I checked and we all know how well he did at his job.
