Looking at our stats and considering BoneyM's previous QM statements regarding Ranald's priesthood, I have now fallen in love with the idea of Mathilde turning up unannounced at a religious Conclave as a representative of Ranald's clergy, surrounded by cats.

Obviously she'd have no idea what she'd be doing there either (the cats herded her here unexpectedly) but will she let it show? Never! Bluff your way though!

A bunch of cats, and somehow our pupper looks like/is disguised as a big kitty too?

I'd disagree. Apprenticeship would equate more naturally to 'highschool', even university. We started at age 20, a relatively young age for a trainee wizard, kicked up and out of our College home to Journeymanling status. That might equate in todays terms more to... an extended internship or probationary period.

@Andres110 apologies for my reply, it was more aggressive and condescending than warranted, I was just tired and getting hung up on the fact we can still do things in Stirland without giving up the opportunities to explore more of Warhammer from a personal perspective outside the usual scope of the Empire.
Well to be fair the argument that it would take us a couple weeks to get to K8P if something happens could hold water if you account for the time it would take for a messenger to travel from the Hold to wherever we are in order to tell Mathilde about it.
I sortof touched on this a little, but to expand on this- I'm pretty sure once K8P gets established there's going to be something resembling a gyrocopter postal system, at least for truly urgent issues (which presumably would be case if we need to get there ASAP), and that means we could probably hear about it in a few days even if they stop in Zhufbar and go overland from there.

As for issues in Stirland, those aren't likely to develop overnight nor are we liable to be directly called in to help with anything there. Unofficially, the Witch Hunter spymaster might want to liaise with us, and if there's a pressing invasion or whatnot we might be called in as a Knight if nothing else- but those sort of campaigns don't happen overnight either. We planned the purge for literal years beforehand and a mustering of undead in Sylvania is likelier to be caught whiff of early than ever before. I'm not saying there won't be any meaningful delays but I definitely think it's a largely resolved issue as is, let alone if we want to get tricksy with long range Ulgu alarms (we know hundreds of miles was fine with Dhar, and Ulgu has a lot of associations with distance and the crossing thereof) we could partially avoid having to wait for word from Stirland or K8P.

You gotta love the idea of Mathilde enchanting a big red button labeled 'In case of emergencies only, press to summon a Grey Wizard to your immediate location in 3-5 business days'.

This concept just made my day, thank you.

On the note of her being a Knight a question for @BoneyM is it possible for Mathilde to found a Knightly Order? Or is that only in the purview of higher nobility like the folks in Altdorf and the Elector Counts?

E: I guess this is also a question of how Knightly Orders get founded at all.

Want to found the Order of the Mist (Or Smoke) Knight?

Yeah I'm considering founding an Order of the Fog. (That Grey Knight joke was great.)

As a refinement of that Autopsy Agency we never got to see before we left Stirland. That was a really cool concept with some fun references put into it.

To look at it from a different perspective it is actually pretty straightforward for Mathilde to found a clandestine organization to hunt the Undead and the Chaotic. She would need to seek out some people, recruit them under the table, and then set up somewhere, possibly her estate. Or somewhere else, likely somewhere else since the estate is Le Smol. And then start training them or get trainers for them.

And without any official rigmarole she has a martial force at least in training.

What I'm wondering is if her being a Wizard actually gets in the way of her being a Master of a Knightly Order, because if she can found a Knightly Order, for one that's just kinda cool. For two, if she makes a Knightly Order recruited from skilled martial noble families and possibly adventurers who pass certain skill tests she has a solid core that provides a means for Big Beefy Backup and Official Obfuscation. If she then sticks a second organization inside of it, it can hide from scrutiny since there's hundreds to possibly thousands of Knightly Orders, if she can use it as essentially a cover and heavy back up the members of the Autopsy Agency 2.0 hidden in it can just identify themselves as members of it. Because they probably would be sworn members.

Such an official "Face" also allows for Bigger Fish to be summoned, in the form of the other Knightly Orders and armies of the Empire and its allies with less trouble about how precisely they are connected to Mathilde.

Well one idea I had for the whole Knightly Order thing is that we possibly roll it into the idea of making a Branch college. But rather than specifically for the Grey Order we instead make it a general branch college for those Wizards who wish to go down the path of being Wizard Knights like Mathilde is at this point. So if done right we would have a Knightly Order with a good portion of the members being Wizards who like getting up close in melee.

That's intriguing and very interesting to say the least, though far more ambitious given the bureaucratic hoops we'd have to jump through and the many more actions required in scoping out a place for a monastery/campus and finding Journeymanlings/Initiates who are interested. Not sure I'm keen on it as the first form. Perhaps it could be something to advance into?

Knightly Orders are generally founded on the order of Elector Counts or the Emperor, though various nobles (generally existing Grandmasters or whatnot) can petition their Elector Count to let them found one. Being granted the right to raise a new Knightly Order is considered a major honour, as Grandmasters are frequently in the running for command of Imperial Armies alongside the various Marshals, Generals, and other Lord-class Heroes.

That's kinda what I was expecting yeah. Though given Sin's idea of a Branch College, the College of Magic bureaucracy may provide an alternate route to get some form of martial Order going.

Well the way I can see it working is that we unofficially get some Journeymanlings to tag along with our Knightly order with certain insentives like access to some proper wizarding supplies and while they are there we teach them the art of beating people's faces in with a big sword. Then we get a reputation within the Colleges as the person/place to send the Journeymanlings who are more martially inclined and eventually work it up to being an official thing.

So best way would be to do something worthy of a big enough boon to be given a charter to form a Knightly Order.

Might work, though that course requires a Knightly Order charter first obviously.

Seems better to go the route of making a clandestine organization first, then gaining enough favors with the College as a Wizard Lord to get them to okay a Branch College where the clandestine organization can then be as a hidden part of the staff. Or something to that effect. Then recruit some Journeymanlings and other knightly inclined folks to put the final touches on the Order of the Fog.

Something of worth noting as well is that the above is not exclusive to gaining a Knightly Order charter either since such an organization would probably help her achieve the deeds needed for such a thing.

Well we could do something like what we are doing here, get a posse of Journeymanlings to follow us around and help us when it comes to various tasks such as aiding a military campaign. That can help our initial reputation gain since we start getting the reputation we need to make it work and the added muscle will help us get the required amount of favor to get the Knightly Order charter.

Yeah, the little posse we got going right now could be a start.
