While swimming through a ship when she barely even knows how to swim? Like, she just learned, and from what I recall, didn't learn very well. Will we have to carry the survivors, or can we grant it for a specific amount of time and not have them fall through the floor because they don't have control over what they can and can't interact with?
If the same rules apply now as they did during the reconquest than dwarfs we grant SoS too should float like upset balloons.

Most likely tying a rope to your belt and his and pulling him along like an incredibly upset balloon. Normally people effected by Substance of Shadow continue to walk normally but if they're still being acted on by a rope, that combines with being insubstantial in ways that could, in certain situations, be hilarious.

Dreng's here, so I feel safe taking this above other options.

This could be a great way to mend the rift between the Karaz-a-Karak guilds and the southern holds - and make Mathilde look exceedingly good in the process.

The odds are slim that we can salvage this.

But slim odds or not, we've got to try. Anyone we can salvage from this mess is a boon. If we luck out and that guildmaster can be saved? We mitigate a lot of the rage that's going to spill out of here.

Saving lives is gonna be critical once everything is said and done. Dreng was ranger, he can take charge on hunting down the bandits.

Got to give a try at it, we can go for the bandits afterward. Reminder we are disgustingly fast on our shadow pony.

Anyway, that aside.

To fuck up a Monitor like that requires one of two things--a shitton of artillery, a Battle Wizard, or explosives implanted into the hull in advance.

All of these are nightmarish possibilities for what could be thrown at us. The first one though is slow enough to escape that it'd be hard for the attackers to evade Dreng, and the other two possibilities are best detected by getting into the ship and figuring out what the fuck

Or a sea mine. If they mined the river in advance they might not have had the chance to pull out.

Edit: apparently the dutch were one of the first to try such things in the west.

Me might be missing out on the best chance to track down the bandits, but precious dwarven lives are at risk. I'm hoping the trail won't go too cold in the meantime.

That's a gigantic escalation and also a pretty fucking incredible feat to move one halfway across the Old World without anybody noticing it?

If it's a sea mine though, that increases the odds of the Guildmaster potentially surviving long enough to be saved. Because the oldest dwarfs--by definition--are the ones with the tightest attachment to not dying. And a Sea Mine's going to do the majority of it's damage to the bottom of the hull--usually not where you put your VIPs.

Could also be sabotage, someone deliberately inducing a boiler explosion. It's unlikely considering Dwarven engineering standards but it can't be ruled out.
