Poly is fine, but poly with a dragon feels...uh...unwise. Dragons- to varying degrees by setting and individual nature, but virtually always to at least some extent- tend toward the possessive. The dragon is highly unlikely to be interested in sharing you.

With the obvious exception of "it's actually the dragon's harem", I guess.

I'm gonna be honest the only reason I am voting for Panoramia is because she is the boring vanilla option. The romance vote shouldn't have won at all after Van Hal's death.
That's a disservice to both Panoramia and Abel.

Besides, the boring vanilla option is obviously Oswald.

I think you may be projecting things onto the dragon.
At the very least the decent thing to do would be to ask Cython what they felt about things and not just assume it based on stereotypes surrounding dragons.

Hopefully there will be a follow up vote on how we go about it if two romance votes win.
There will.
Subvote as to whether Mathilde is trying to double-dip or playing the field. Worst case scenario, an "it's not you, it's me" talk after a date or two wouldn't be the end of the world.
I assume "double-dip" here means "deliberately aiming for a plural relationship" and "playing the field" here means "going on first dates with multiple people with the intent of eventually only dating one of them."

I mean is having multiple dates really before deciding to enter a relationship really that unreasonable? It's not IRL but for some reason quests always seem to go with this romantic mono-focus like one date leads to inevitable marriage.

But it is kinda rude to take someone on a date, while also asking someone else on a date at the same time.
Personally i'm a bit worried what will happen if two romance votes win.

edit-
That said, everyone should vote for what they want, double dating or no.
It's not if you make it clear that you might back out. It would be a bit awkward, sure, but one might describe everything involved with romance as "a bit awkward".

That's...more than slightly insulting. Do you have an actual response to "typical dragon behavior is possessive, and possessiveness is incompatible with stable/happy polyamory" other than accusing me of projecting my own supposed issues onto it? Do you disagree with either of those two points? Do you have some opinion that this dragon in particular is not typical, or that dragons in general, or at least in WHF, are not typically possessive?

Forgive me, in any case, for wanting to be a bit cautious about romancing a being significantly more powerful and vastly older and more experienced, about whose personality we know little, and who I believe we can reasonably expect to be uncomfortable with the idea of polyamory. And, also, bugger off.

I'm not sure what it is about wanting to treat a being as an individual and not a species wide stereotype struck you as insulting. Mathilde does not really know that much about the inner lives of dragons, that she does know is mostly from dwarf and empire books. How many of those authors do you think asked a dragon about their romantic preferences?

Oh. That's a valid point. On the other hand, we don't have anything to go off of except species wide stereotypes, no particular reason to believe those stereotypes inaccurate, and potentially genocidal consequences if we fuck up. (Specifically, if the dragon decides that K8P should go back to just being 8P, pulls it off in spite of our best efforts, and the Rune of Valaya fails.) I, personally, am inclined to be cautious on those grounds, but I'll admit it's a flaw in my mindset.

However.

One could as well say that it is a stereotype of sapient individuals to be uncomfortable with polyamory, and you would not be far wrong. Of course, like any stereotype, there are exceptions, but people in general are statistically quite unlikely to be poly-friendly. Proceed to the previous argument about "this could (not likely, but genuinely possibly) go really spectacularly wrong so let's be careful."

Granted, this is still stereotyping, just on a grander, more universal scale. At least it's not a racial or species stereotype? But if you eliminate the argument entirely, it follows that we have to get to know the dragon as an individual before raising the question of a poly relationship and so still shouldn't be trying to date the dragon and someone else at the same time right off the bat.

In conclusion, sure, I guess if my issues are "willing to operate off of stereotypes temporarily in the lack of any better information", I'm projecting, I guess.

I'm gonna stand by "THE DRAGON IS BIGGER THAN US AND BADDER THAN US CAN WE NOT TEST THEIR FORBEARANCE TILL WE KNOW THEM BETTER PLEASE AND THANK YOU", though.

We know little enough about Cython that, for all we know, it demands poly and would be offended if we attempted to be monogamous with it. I do not think that we should make any assumptions at all about a person's preferences until we talk to them, which the romance option will should involve.

I think this is a little too extreme a reactions to 'hey what if we try to play the field a little and ask the dragon what kind of relationship it would be comfortable with?' I would think there are many many steps between that and dwarf genocide, especially as the dragon is a being of Hysh, you know the Wind of reason and logic, it's not going to fly off the handle like that.

Oh, now who's stereotyping? :stickouttongue2:

Nah, you're right, it's absolutely an overreaction, and I'm probably going to continue being excessively cautious wherever a dragon or dragons are concerned. Boney'll write it well no matter what ends up happening, so 🤷‍♂️

Gotta say, I'm not sure why there's so much interest in checking out the Barak Varr Canals? Mathilde already indirectly checked up on that through Wilhelmina Social last time, and previously we got an update from the Chamberlain of the Seal.

I'm not sure how learning news of Dawi-Human trade routes will help when we're already going to be busy with Expedition preparations? I'm just a bit sad Eike is trailing behind checking out the Canals because tbh it's neglecting a future Partner in favor of a status update.

Actually, what DO we even know of dragon romance?
We don't actually see dragons cohabiting for extended periods most places, suggesting they do not pairbond in a permanent manner(whereas given their lifespans, if they were to pairbond permanently most elder dragons would be paired until spouse death).
