Why do I suddenly get the feeling that Melkoth teaches people his favourite spell by just repeatedly casting it on them until they figure it out?
Repeatedly casting Melkoth's Mystifying Miasma on people makes them much less able to figure things out, so that seems unlikely. If you have that feeling, maybe it's because someone cast MMM on you? ;)

Huh, that update reminds me. I don't know if this was asked answered before, but @BoneyM , how protective is Mathilde of Abel's hat? How murderface would she get over somebody damaging/taking it?

She'd legally have grounds to challenge them to a duel, and depending on the circumstances she'd likely be pretty damn tempted to do so.

Also this reminds me @BoneyM
The only vampires we've seen in Sylvania, are, oddly enough, not Von Carsteins. Does anyone we've spoken to have any clue where all the missing Von Carstein Vampires are? Or what they're up to?

Konrad and Mannfred did a pretty thorough job at either killing them or getting them killed. The ones left over are probably the ones that keep their head down.

Nice to see Mathilde and Roswita interacting easily now, quite the change over time.
When you first heard of a conference of Witch-Hunters, your initial response was that it'd behoove you to be as far away from it as possible. But though it is hosted by the Cult of Sigmar, this is no hidebound coterie of fanatic Sigmarites, nor a collection of thief-takers and hired thugs given a dubious seal of approval by some regional authority. This is a gathering of representatives of every organization dedicated to the stamping out the Forbidden Lores of the Daemonic Powers, the unholy ways of Necromancy, and other sorceries and witchcrafts that utilize the wicked powers of Dark Magic. That said, those Wizards that don't plan on attending still make a point to keep inside the Colleges or outside of Altdorf for the duration, just to be on the safe side.
Mathilde's Brazen Vampire Brave trait shining through again. :)

She'd legally have grounds to challenge them to a duel, and depending on the circumstances she'd likely be pretty damn tempted to do so.
Is that for the insult, or the theft/property crime?
With a mental shrug, you pick the conversation that sounds most interesting and dive in.
Seems as clear an invitation to Omakes of these conversations as could be...

I'm honestly starting to question the unity of these scouting actions for the Expedition because unless we find Dum is a smoking crater in the ground or sieged by an army of daemons, I'm not sure what kind of benefit it'd bring, and at massive risks too.

Riding ahead by days sounds much more useful than riding ahead by months.
They were definitely more useful in the case where we didn't plan to accompany the expedition.

That said, Boney isn't going to give us on-expedition scouting for free; it's going to be at the cost of other actions we could take. If we're riding ahead, for instance, we aren't helping out with any issues that come up. So I don't think we want to completely rely on just-in-time scouting for the route; we did, after all, grab intel on the Skull Road route from Qrech and LM Grey to help out the expedition, despite that being years and years out of date.

To rephrase my original question, I guess: where does slightly stale information hurt us least?

You're talking about the guy Hubert recommended us, right? I think he's just a magister, no lord.
mmm...I think it was because he was described as plucking a star from the sky to hit a sea serpent that got me thinking he was a LM. Since you know...sounds like the comet, but he could just be like us a magister whose good enough to be allowed into the Battle Magic.

Regardless still got kicked by a Slann :)

Damn, the dragon is so far ahead it's not even funny, of course he has more personality and better chemistry than everyone else.

So happy making a landing pad with the explicit intention of one day using it to invite the dragon over is finally paying out.

Also, we have to give it to Birdmuncha, he came here to fight a dragon and by Gork he was not leaving without fighting a dragon.

I'm not sure what he did can really be described as 'fighting' the dragon.

oh, that guy... that's a bag of worms that I don't want to touch and yet don't want to leave alone in case it goes south in the background
He's been mentioned before.
It's often said to new Apprentices that many of the greatest deeds of the Grey Order will never be spoken of, and while that was true for the Empire at large, the exception was among other Grey Wizards. Algard and his Towers of Screaming Death, which reliably draws in Chaos warbands who seek the forbidden tomes supposedly encased within and walk right into Imperial Army ambushes. Kurtis Krammovitch, double agent turned triple agent turned quadruple agent turned unofficial diplomat to the Hedgefolk, who technically breached the Articles but fought sorcerers and necromancers for new recruits in areas where the College's influence didn't otherwise reach. Walther Kupfer, who fomented civil unrest from the slave pits of Clar Karond and caused inter-house feuds that still periodically explode into violence to this day.

Hey! Long time reader, first time poster. I just have to say that I usually dislike CYOAs as a medium but this was recommended and both you and the crowd voting should get mad props for creating an interesting and fun warhammer fantasy romp.
If this makes you interested in other Warhammer quests, I've got a list.

Older, very good Quests
  • Dynasty of Dynamic Alcoholism- take control of the very drunk Count of Ostland as he somehow survives everything, despite how hard the players and GM try to kill him.
  • Divided Loyalties- Serve as an advisor to the new Count of Stirland, where your loyalty to your lord will be contested by other factors.
  • Paradox of Choice: Ulthuan Quest- take control of the newly-elected Phoenix King and try to revitalize the High Elves. Rather on the complex side, been a while since the last update, but that's not unusual.
Newer Quests
  • Of Wolves and Witches- Control Erika Kurtsdottir, Journey(wo?)man mage of the Bright Order as she stumbles through disasters and one-night-stands.
  • Hearts as Cold As Ice- Control an Ice Witch, Anastasia Bohka, the daughter of the Tzarina, as she deals with her sudden exile over her... overly honest nature.
  • Clan Rakidum- Control a Dwarf clan of Rangers as they establish themselves in the Vaults.
  • An Empire Divided- Control the Count of Nordland as he tries to navigate the politics of the Empire in the Age of Three Emperors. (Dead)
  • Blood in the Reikmouth- Unusual one- the head of the Elf enclave in Marienburg has been killed, and you need to solve his murder before the riots start. Occurs post-canon. (Probably Dead)
  • An Empire, Long Divided, Must Unite!- Control the head of an Estalian polity as he seeks to unite Estalia, and possibly all of the Southern Realms, into one kingdom.
  • Heretic Gods- It's about a Norscan who would doesn't worship one of the 4- not that her god is any more pleasant. (Seems Dead)
  • RHUNRIKKI STROLLAR- Control a Dwarf Runelord during the Dwarf golden age, starting before even the Vortex has been made.
  • No Plea For Help Shall Find Me Wanting- Bretonnia quest, playing as a lord in Moussilon, uses tabletop rules, Knight's Quest-style.
  • Age of Heroes- Warhammer quest using mechanics inspired by the Scion game, playing as the mortal daughter of Asaph. (Probably not dead?)
  • From Hell's Heart- Play as a newly-reformed Demon who just became the latest Order god- not that any of the others would care. (On Hiatus)
  • From the Hidden City- Control the last surviving Temple-City in the Southlands, just after the connection to Lustria has been broken.
  • Court of the Phoenix Prince- Play as the advisor to one of the Princes of Ulthuan.
  • Dark Child of Naggaroth- Play as a young Corsair out to make their fortune and their name.

Roswita is adorable and I definitely hope for more interaction in the future.

Buuut Panoramia still beats her and Cython. Would be awesome to become best buddies with the dragon though.

"It does flow better." You frown over her shoulder as she jots it down. "Shouldn't 'against' have a capital?"

She frowns down at it. "I don't think so. It's like 'at' or 'by' or 'to', it just looks weird because it's a longer word."

"I suppose," you say, not quite convinced.

Roswita looks around the room again as you continue scrutinizing the uncapitalized A.

Language isn't a static structure that never changes. A grammatical shift to something that looks right should be fine!

Although I'm a bit of a hypocrite because I fanatically support the Oxford Comma.

Why not make the title "Monetarily Assaulting Truly Heinous Institutions of Lifeless Dhar Evildoers" and solve all the capitalization issues that way?

:V
I first rated this insightful, but Roswita wrote it, so it should be her name.

...unless she's secretly into Mathilde really hard. Making an acronym out of Mathilde's name would at least give some competition to Cython's gift.

Agreed. Of the available choices, I honestly think Johann just doesn't... work... in that I'm not getting the alchemy (maybe I'm overlooking it).

Roswita is adorable in the sense of able to be adored but I'm not sure they have chemistry either.

The dragon is deeply interesting (and classy!), but the sheer mismatch in... scale, if you will, scale of lifespan, scale of power, scale of physical existence, is all just... a bit too much for me to see them as a viable romantic pairing as opposed to a friendship.

Panoramia has chemistry.

Honestly the Oxford comma itself looks better in my opinion. It doesn't differentiate between the last two items in a list, and it avoids some unfortunate cases of ambiguity:

"We discussed my parents, the weather and the upcoming election."

Thaaaaat's a sentence badly in need of an Oxford comma, don't you think? :p

Making a Mathilde-acronym paper would catapult Roswita firmly to the top of the gift-giving competition. Entire dragon hoards cannot compete.

I'm sure Mathilde innocently made the suggestion, and Roswita quibbled with it and ultimately rejected it for flowing a little awkwardly and containing redundancies.
Considering that I missed it entirely until BurnNote pointed it out, I can see Roswita not noticing it either.

A dragon co-authoring hordes of papers on the other hand....
