"Behold," you say proudly, "the Staff of Mistery!"
I'm surprised there wasn't a mention of Pan quietly mocking us for making such a subtle pun. Though I suppose that's been brought up the last few wizard socials so it'd be better to not wear it out. And it'd probably be mildly unfair to push her presence when we're testing out the other romance options.

This one seems to have snuck past everyone, which just makes it more satisfying when they realize it.

"Yes-yes, fought-slayed the ratties," she says absently, peering at the runework.
Gehenna is so great. So great.
"'We don't want to fight but by Jingo if we do, we've got the guns, we've got the men, we've got the Wizards too. We've fought Parravon before, and while we're Reiklanders true, the Bretonni shall not have a hide east of the Grey.'"
Seriously, what do we have to do to keep her?
"She was at the Battle of Ubersreik," Johann says proudly.
You look from Gehenna, who started the odd verse, and to Johann who joined it midway. "Parravon?"
Johann is adorable with her.

[X] (DRAGON) Offer to teach it Khazalid

Dwarves are friends, not food

[X] (ANTON) Celebrate Two-Gifts Day with him and his family

I just want to see what Gifts Mathilde will bring.

I can show you the Karak
Shining shimmering splendid

Let's relax for a bit, shall we?

"The other little present is- get the door, will you?" You gesture, and a Move cantrip swings the door shut. "Handy. Right, Borek's going to encounter the reality that his Karak is inevitably doomed, and when that happens, he's probably going to go Slayer and won't care who he takes with him. So I've got a couple of levers for you to pull in case you need to alter the course of events. Gotrek's a very useful sort, I was going to make him an offer before I realized you might find it useful to keep it in reserve. If he and his family show up at the gates of Karak Eight Peaks, I've got a home and a job and a position in the Guild waiting for him, no questions asked. He can stay Clanless if he wants, or I can take him into Stoneheart. Had a word with Dreng, and the same applies for Snorri with Clan Huzkul. So if the Expedition ever needs a sudden change of leadership..."

It's a problem you've had to consider yourself recently, and you're surprised to hear this kind of solution coming from a Dwarven set of lips. Gotri's always been radical, but what he seems to be implying is a step beyond that. You wonder if he's always been this way, or if he's being further radicalized by the Karak. "I do hope it never comes to that," you say, "but if it does, it will be very nice to have options. Thank you."

He nods. "You're too useful to be lost on impossible revanchism."

Holy shit, is Gotri actually suggesting that Mathilde assassinate Borek? 😮

That's like, ten steps beyond just "radical".

With that, Gotri has firmly slotted himself just behind Kragg and Belegar (or Belegar and Kragg, either or) as my favorite dwarf in this quest.

Dwarves call human ways foolish, but we can say the same about some of theirs.

Sometimes you just need to shank a motherfucker in the back.

After all your experiences here, there is only one answer. "Yes." Daroir smiles at your answer.

"Welcome to the ranks of the Shadow Warriors of Nagarythe, Ismuir,"
Is that another title for the collection?

Johann is adorable with her.
It's going to be a long con but I have a simple plan.

She and Johann are already very close, and since we've not heard anything about family of his I believe Johann might be an orphan or disowned. That means with a few careful words we might be able to convince her to officially adopt Johann.

The long con part comes into play when we seduce Johann and convince him to marry us, then boom. Mother in law.

And if at that point Johann is a less than satisfactory Husband? Divorce him, and hire the best lawyer money can buy, so we can keep her in the divorce.

What do you mean it's immoral to marry people to steal their adoptive parent?

But seriously She's an absolutely blast, and her and Johann work together so well on screen, and I hope she keeps showing up.

You know it occurs to me that if we do need to do the job of forcing a leadership change then that would be the first time we'd have had to assassinate someone who is nominally our boss.

Hm, not really assassination, more letting Borek die/go slayer, and keep the rest of dwarf leadership from following him by bribi-, providing an alternative.

[ ] (DRAGON) Compare notes between its recollections and Dwarven records of its activity

If we don't want to romance the dragon later, we can instead write a book about its life.

The Ice Dragon of Karag Zilfin
[ ] (DRAGON) Just show up and see if it's feeling chatty
[ ] (DRAGON) Discuss linguistics
[ ] (DRAGON) Offer to teach it Khazalid
[ ] (DRAGON) Visit to investigate magics the Dragon seems to be casting
[ ] (DRAGON) Compare notes between its recollections and Dwarven records of its activity
Definitely not the first one. I don't think Mr. Freeze would appreciate idle conversation so much when it could be napping. Any of the other actions would be much better.
Elector Countess Roswita van Hal
[ ] (ROSWITA) Sparring sessions
[ ] (ROSWITA) Invite her to peruse your library for useful information
[ ] (ROSWITA) A shared investigation into the undead
[ ] (ROSWITA) Attend Roswita's academic presentation
[ ] (ROSWITA) Go for a Cruise on the Stir
[ ] (ROSWITA) Try to convert her to a better God
Surely not the last one, it's not the time to do so, given we still barely know her. Any of the first four seems fine to me. I'm not too sure on the Stir cruise, we just got news that piracy has ticked up, and it's possible, though unlikely, that if Marienburg can't get at the EIC they'll take a swing at Roswita instead.

Baron Anton Kiesinger II
[ ] (ANTON) Visit your fief together
[ ] (ANTON) Tour Blutdorf's repeater factory
[ ] (ANTON) Celebrate Two-Gifts Day with him and his family
[ ] (ANTON) Discuss old times, and how far they've come
[ ] (ANTON) Discuss his aunt, the Jade Wizard
Two-Gifts day sounds nice, but his family might ask questions about Mathilde's interest that would be difficult to answer at this stage. I'm not sure about the Jade one, did he ever tell us about his aunt? Because I'm fairly sure we found that out by rifling through his correspondence.

Chief Bombardier Oswald Oswaldson
[ ] (OSWALD) A series of demonstrations at the artillery range
[ ] (OSWALD) Swap war stories
[ ] (OSWALD) Bond over pets
[ ] (OSWALD) Discuss religion
[ ] (OSWALD) Visit Nuln's Gunnery School together
[ ] (OSWALD) Shared gyrocopter tour
I'll be voting for all of these, they all seem nice.

Is that another title for the collection?
Sure, if we actually get it in the main quest and not just an omake.

Do you really think we wouldn't save the elector count of stirland?

Marienburg aint got shit on us!

So yeah, a date of fighting river bandits seems like it might be a good date.

Either that or the academic presentation.

The official news is a continuation of the status quo as Marienburg and the Empire continue rattling sabers without making any substantial moves towards war, but it could be things are unofficially heating up, as river piracy has started to spike along the Stir and the Aver. The
let's have the eic help secure the rivers next turn?
[ ] EIC: Start building a paramilitary river navy to ensure the coming trade explosion doesn't lead to a similar explosion in riverine banditry.

I think it would be an easy fight. I also think that Roswita's likely spent a large part of time doing nothing but fight, so sometime away from that would be nice.

I never even realised that. Yeah, piracy would be something to look out for.

Which is why we should go on the Stir cruise! Fighting pirates aboard a ship while you're on a date with a love interest is romantic as heck! It's probably right out of one of Mathilde's romance books!
