Why? What's the Great Maw?
Well, for starters, it's the 'god' that the Ogres worship, associated with an all-consuming hunger that can never be satisfied.

It also might be a literal hole in Mallus caused by a comet or something. (The Ogres were encroaching on Cathay and eating people, and Cathay responded with a meteor or something that devastated their lands, forced them to migrate to the Mountains of Mourne, and possibly created the Great Maw?)

So, we now have the basics complete on AV research, and we've learnt to speak what is probably the most broadly applicable variety of Queekish. All in all, I'd say that makes for a pretty successful turn.
Also shockingly uneventful, which I suppose we deserve after at least, according to my count, three different vicious kicks in the ribs to the status quo last turn.

Hmm, interesting, so the Waystones aren't strictly necessary, but they help keep the leylines from wandering all over the place as the 'erosion' shifts the path of least resistance, and the longer they're in place the deeper the path and thus the more leeway you have when the waystone is taken off the network.

But to stretch the river metaphor...the more Waystones are missing the more likely that the streams will cross and cause a cascade failure.
And there's the bit we needed. How to tap the stream.

Not sure what we'd even use it for without major ritual mojo, but I expect Laurelorn knows what they want to use it for, and Kragg probably has a use or two.

...preferably testing with a MUCH smaller stone than Eight Peaks first.
Honestly, now that we have this knowledge, I'd like to take a look at the Waaaghsoak mushrooms. It would be awesome if they could somehow be integrated into the whole Waystone infrastructure, whether by assisting in pulling in magic or acting as the plant life along the riverbanks that help combat erosion, or something else entirely.

The world's most thorough eviction notice.
This is the greatest definition of the Great Maw that I have ever been presented with.

Why? What's the Great Maw?
As previously stated, it's a great chasm that was previously the Ogre homeland. It might have been created by a comet which might or might not have been called down by the Celestial Dragon Emperor of Cathay.

The Ogres worship this chasm as a God, possibly in an attempt at appeasement because they figured it was very, very angry with them. Said God manifests as a consuming hunger in all Ogres and they worship by eating. Having a big gut from all the devouring is thus a sign of strength and piety.

Edit: Having a detailed map over the viciously poisonous and desolate area is kinda a big deal for those with an interest in it.

Something that's disappointing here is that despite Mathilde's trait, despite living in one of the most cosmopolitan places in the Old World, if not the entire world, is how xenophobic the playerbase wants her to be. Almost every vote is to meet someone from the Empire, and worse, a Stirlander human.

This is to the degree what she's likely to spend a year refusing to meaningfully interact with any of her closest colleagues, her fellow Councillors.

[X] The Amber College, to see how your donation of Lustrian eggs is going.
[X] Follow up on your donation of the Skaven organ-vat, and see what has been made of it.
[X] Barak Varr, to watch the progress of the canal.
[X] Soizic, military leader of the Undumgi.

[X] Kasmir, to see how he's keeping himself busy in Sylvania.
[X] Roswita, as she campaigns through Hunger Wood.

I get that people dislike us not hanging out with new people, but Kasmir is somebody we were surprisingly close with considering who he is, and yet have hardly seen much of. I think we've spoken to him once since we left Stirland. Truly, being Kasmir is suffering.

Let's go have some pie.

We interact with them all the time, it's just below our level of abstraction. These are fluff votes, to give focus on characters we want to see more of on-screen, and explicitly not at all mechanical.

growing smirk. "No, I shouldn't think so. They'll be working on…" She stalled for a second, groping for the right concepts in Khazalid. "... well, you could call it 'personal maintenance'. Mostly they'll be drinking and gambling, I should think." At Edda's continued look of incomprehension, Mathilde's poker face slipped a fraction, then reasserted itself as she did her best to avoid causing her friend embarrassment. "You know how umgi can't work as long or as hard as dawi before their muscles tire? And how as a result umgi need more frequent rest breaks?" Edda nodded, so Mathilde pressed on. "Well, that's true for their minds and spirits too. A vacation is just a form of extended mental and spiritual rest."
I would have described it as.
"You know how humans are Vornari well one of the ways that tends to manifest itself is we start to become like those we surround ourselves with so every now and then we enjoy spending time relating and reminding ourselves who we are."

When you say "very low", is that including the theoretical possibility where we give Wolf our knowledge of the Liber Mortis?

... You know, in case our best boy is in mortal danger. And in case he runs out of bones to chew on. Both equally terrible fates.

The danger of necromancy is that even those with very little power can utilize it to terrible effect. So yes, Wolf could theoretically become a necromancer.

Hell of a take you've got, there.

There are plenty of ways to disparage people for their voting choices, if that's how you get your jollies, but doing so by accusing this thread of fantasy racism?

When the thread's current golden child is a giant spider hive mind?

Whew.

The way I see it this is a very big upgrade for Garrison units or more elite units guarding important locations.
On long campaigns it's not great, but in initial engagements or defending it's fairly good.

Maybe if we spent favor on getting someone to take another look and see if anything else can be improved in the Niter factory.
Pretty much, with the caveat that "not great" is relative to it being overwhelmingly good at everything else. "Fairly good" doesn't begin to describe how much better it is compared to muzzle loading single-shots.

Purging an entire province is most definitely not the usual run of things.

From the perspective of someone looking to equip ranged troops with firearms, the Mk 2 Repeater is massively better at everything but drawn out skirmishing campaigns, where it simply requires additional upkeep and logistics.

Given the rarity of such campaigns for the Empire, it's not much of a dilemma at all. At patrolling to suppress untamed places, defending cities or fortified positions or going up against a Waagh or Beastman Herd, the Mk 2 Repeater makes regular guns look like toys.

I mean, I'm frustrated about the lack of engagement with K8P characters as well, but I think you're reading more into this than is warranted, since I'd like to point out that literally none of the other Council members are even an option this social turn.

Mostly it is that dwarfs are Durazi they don't require regular social interaction to remind them who they are.

A lot of that could probably be some what mitigated by more elite units equipped with it being heavily instructed in maintenance.

Plus, I think we've socialed Belegar and Kragg at basically every opportunity we've gotten.

Or maybe they're having her choose not to ignore her oldest friends as opposed to people she sees nearly every day.
But no, clearly not voting for social actions with some dwarves for one turn must mean we're xenophobic and hate them.

Mathilde must REALLY hate elves then.

We've socialized Kragg every time. We skipped Belegar twice; once in a regular turn and once in the mini-social-turn interlude during the battle.

I mean, the problem is that many characters don't really have story presence except for in the social turns. The council members show up and give their reports and that's mostly it except when we seek them out for interactions. The Undumgi don't show up at all, which is why I've been making a nuisance of myself yelling about them since forever.

Niter factory options are sadly not available to us at the moment.

The additional handgun factory options (through purchase turns) are available, but I doubt the thread will be willing to go for it again, at least for the next couple of turns.
