THe lecture is a one time thing, even without the hype it was probably gonna have a decent audience and have a large impact on our future career.

That wasn't the impression the thread had from what I recall at all. It was basically thought of as pretty much a sure thing for some moderate kudos and college glad-handing since we aced the paper. Not really a high risk high reward action.

AV is repeatable, we literally lose nothing if mess up one roll.

We might, people wanted to be sure live testing didn't spectacularly backfire.

The Grey College does not often play host, and never to as varied an audience as the one accumulated for your lectures. It has been decided that the information you are to share can only be used to the detriment of the greenskins, so there is no reason to give it the usual restrictions that magical information would normally be shielded by, and the predicted crowd quickly outgrew the usual location of the gathering field of the Amber College. The University of Altdorf was asked to provide, and over the complaints of the local dramatic club, they granted the use of the Magnus Hall.
The freaking field was TOO SMALL?! :o

oh god why

A Runesmith of Karak Norn, keeping a wary distance from the wizards and compulsively checking the medallion on his chest, no doubt bearing a Rune of protection from magic of some sort.
Well, at least that's reassuring. A firm rock of sensibility in an otherwise intimidating audience.

Well maybe we shouldn't ever assume that anything is a sure thing from now on hmmm?

Hubris has fucked over people greater than us.

Wow, full house. Shame the tower isn't really relevant. It would have made for a killer opening.

"Hi, I'm Mathilde Weber. I've killed things on mountains, I've killed things under mountains, and now I've killed things with a mountain."

I still don't get why it wasn't put on the lecture.

if you have a one time option dependent on rolls, then you always put the roll booster on that instead of repeatable stuff.

Magical research is dangerous, and the consensus has been that Mathilde's single life and maintaining the status quo on peak number is more important than reputation management—especially as the option was seen more as gravy while the AV research is of highest importance.

If we fuck this up hard enough you realize it would impact how our research is perceived right?

In the rough draft for shinies an upgrade for Waaaghbane is available, so it could be!

Because "decent audience" and debatably large impact - what we'd normally gain from this is just college favour, and we got a pretty stable income of college favour - is insufficient to overcome the frustration of Not Doing AV for a fair few turns, and people wanting to get maximum use out of that one AV action slot they managed to claw out in AP wars.

Hubris is like, the last thing that I'd expect to hear about right now. "We thought that we are a mildly-known mage who'll have an audience of our magical dad, three mages one of which got the wrong room and one cat*" is pretty much antithesis of hubris.

The "Not assume" statement is likewise somewhat ridiculous, given we are forced to assume stuff every turn.

I get that you are displeased with not maximizing the Good Things from this random event, but like. Random event. Just be happy this is happening at all.

*I am underplaying this a bit, I know we got a pretty good stack of college rep

Dude we are giving a lecture based on the massive status quo shattering paper on counter spelling enemy magic that we created.

It was always gonna have a large audience, even before the hype. Certainly not This large, but within the colleges themselves it probably would have been rather notable.

The hype just proves my earlier point.

Always put the booster on the one time action because for all you know your fate and the fate of all you cherish could end up being on the line.

The thing that can be repeated, by definition can take a failure better than something that can't.

Always put the boost on the one time mystery box shiny if you pick it.

always.

Eh, some research actions are one-time only. When we first look at something, we find out how useable it is. If that is low, it will never be useable in a useful manner. But if it is high, it will always be useful.

This was the text of the option:
[ ] The Colleges want you to do a series of lectures on your paper, Waaagh and Peace. Travel to Altdorf and do so.
There is absolutely no possible way we could have anticipated this turnout based off of the information given.
