I might change my mind later, but I'm definitely leaning towards Peace Maker, Xeno-Affinity and Polyglot. I really like the idea of those together and it marks the kind of world I want Mathilde to create.

I'm a fan of Polyglot. Narratively, many cultures coming together to create something bigger than the sum of its parts has been an recurring theme of the K8P expedition. Mathilde seeking more information from other cultures would be building on that tendency in what I think is a satisfying way that ties into the effort she's already put into assembling a multi-lingual library.

In the short term, it'll directly help with translating Queekish and learning Anoqeyån, so it'll have some guaranteed benefits, and it benefits us most either in a cosmopolitan trade hub (as K8P will undoubtedly be), or while traveling to see strange and distant lands - both of which I'd very much like Mathilde to do, so it encourages the story to go down paths I personally find interesting.
My only problem with Polygot is that with our high learning, the learning tower, and some of the library bonus, we aren't really slow at picking up languages anyways.

it's only a mechanical complaint as its a good lore choice (I would prefer [ ] The great Library) but I think there is diminishing returns.

if we were really trying to learn every language it might be different. as every bonus would be needed.

I wonder if we can spend favors or Boon to help us hunt down Birdmuncha.
He is a sensible Orc who knows to pick his fights and knows of Eye of Gazul.
Also, he got away from Mathilde, which probably annoys her Warboss-shanking part on some level :V

I think General of Fog would be most satisfying consequence of the way we did this campaign. It's a very fitting way to trait-ize the way she's been waging the battle. And the way she's been acting all the time, really, always trying to get more information on everything going on and deny enemy the same.
Nobody stops her from taking command of specifically scouts and other such forces, where she both belongs and, with this trait, would absolutely excel at. And +4 Martial always applies anyway.

OTOH, most of our success really owes (aside of luck) to loads and loads of information (and loot) gathering. So perhaps proper capstone of it all, once we keep in mind the death of Necromancy Hogwarts and the like, is Scout/Infiltrator.

With the way the library bonuses work, it makes sense to learn every language.

As much I dislike Mathilde having the trait thematically, Assassin is probably the best battle trait on the list for what she's most likely going to be doing with the Elves-that being killing Dark Elves. (I dislike it thematically because I don't want her to be able to put into the mental box of "Oh, she's just a magical assassin.", plus some of the connotations of being an assassin and so on.)
Arguably, from some points of view you could describe what we just did as assassinating 500,000 greenskins. While they were an actively hostile war party, the term has been used in the quest against similar enemies before.

I mean- we identified and confirmed the targets, individually each and every one. Marked them for death and killed them, unaware, unseen and without a fight.
...Poor Mathilde, that's quite the psychological burden.

People should keep in mind that we aren't going to get these traits for quite a few updates, which means probably not until after the New Year in real life:
In the coming day or so, I will continue the turn where things left off. I plan to have a big wrap-up of the Eight Peaks campaign at the end of the IC year, and there will be three different ways these events will have ended up shaping Mathilde: one from these past two days as Thane, one from these past four years as Loremaster, and one reflecting on her personal life. I will be taking suggestions for possible entries to this list; please make these suggestions with an eye to Mathilde's continued evolution as a character, rather than mere mechanical advantage. The draft below is very rough and a lot is likely to change between it and a final list of options to vote for.

I will be away from my computer from the 20th until just after the New Year, and while I'll have my mobile and will remain active in the thread, I will not be posting updates during this period.
So: the next update is going to be Turn 25 Results Part 2, which is the first half of 2482. After we finish the turn results, there's still the social turn and then an entire other turn, the second half of 2482, before we have the big wrapup of the Eight Peaks campaign and the trait vote.

So there's no point getting too married to options right now.

I wanna argue in favor of assassin. It's not a super cool trait like Windsage or Avatar, but it's something we do very often, and it's damn strong in those circumstances. It's +40! That's as many as four tens, and that's terrific.

Seriously though, backed by her strong martial, advanced assassination, murder sword and stealth magic, Mathilde is an absolute beast. That's 60+ on a roll where failure means getting hit by the cannonball sword that shuts down magic.

And here's a thought: Consider what a possible upgrade might look like, say Master Assassine. I'm not even going to speculate, but consider that there's a reason the thread is absolutely terrified of Eshin. So how long will it take to get that? I dunno, but given that there will be a vacation with the angry sneak elves in the not so distant future? Perhaps not too long.

And if we ever want to give Algard the final piece of best news, that's the way to make it happen. (Incidentally, that's also the way to make the elves agree that the dwarfs are totally right for once, Mathilde really is the best human. Do you want those elf headpats? [Incidentally incidentally, taking out Malekith is probably a great way to get Dark Elf favor too. Guy isn't exactly popular.])

So in conclusion: Assassin isn't the sexiest trait alive, but it's certainly cute in a person-next-door kind of way and we already have a great relationship (always marry your best friend). And finally, there's a very real chance that it will blossom into the sexiest trait alive in the not so distant future.
It doesn't really make sense that Mathilde's intent when taking an action changes whether or not she will get a bonus from it. Think in terms of what actions she's good at doing, not what results those actions might result in.
Hmm, so more something like:
Foe Framejob: The greatest battle is one fought between enemies. Bonus to stoking conflict between enemy factions or framing them for your attacks.

Here's another battle trait:
Eh, we can take her (Name subject to change, couldn't think of anything better): Bonus to feigning weakness or unreadiness when commanding armies.

I want to wait and find out what the Waaaghbane upgrade is going to look like before making any decisions, but beyond that the Martial trait probably has to be Assassin, although I wouldn't mind GoF. Arcanatect is the Thing I Most Desire, and I think it's far more interesting than skipping a few language rolls. I don't mind the friendship trait, though.

also, I bet boney is probably going to tweak them a bit before then.

@BoneyM I really like the name "Stonehearted" for a trait, it covers a lot of potential ground (though obviously not all of them at once)
  • Mathilde hardening herself to be a stone cold bitch with regards to the breeders and affirming each ork should die for the Eye of Gazul. Also possibly a tie-in with Dwarven Grudges
  • Mathilde's growing affinity for and friendship with the dwarves and their society
  • any potential soul-deep consequences for channeling the Flames of Gazul
  • her understanding of tunnel fighting and underground tactics
  • her understanding of the "common sense" of living underground. "this cave was likely formed by X, which indicates Y, meaning that it's good for Z, so the toilet will probably be in a tunnel over in that direction"

Beyond that, with 100 Dwarf Rep and a Transcendent Favor, I'd like to try getting a basic dwarven magical education. We know there's precedent with Thorek teaching Kazrik the basics of runesmithing. Being able to get another elder race's perspective on magic to combine with our Teclesian education sounds incredible.
Mathilde is great and all, but she's still not a Dwarf prince.
This is a really weird thing for the thread to fixate on.
We must always be number one.

Tobaro, after Sigmar, you're next on The List

{Tobaro: "Wait, what?")

@BoneyM can the boon be asking for knowledge from Kragg? Not tunes but knowledge that could help advance us as a wizard and other stuff Kragg would think we should know?

The Boon is from Belegar. He'd give it his best shot to get Kragg to talk if you did spend your Boon on it, but Kragg is considered unusually obstinate among an already obstinate people.

I don't disagree on that.

I'm saying we are fairly good at languages to begin with, and we don't try to learn languages every turn, just as we need them, so do we really need to go above Good to Great?

We should be looking to learn languages up front if we get Polyglot, so we can maximise our library bonuses. If Polyglot makes it cheap enough, we can pick up one a turn, and be in position to massively increase them.

Any knowledge of the arcane Kragg has is basically runecraft, that said I think 100 dwarf rep is around the time we might start legitimately eying that. I mean sure no runelord would share lore with an umgi, but Mathilde has rather transcended that limitation in dwarf eyes. They are not entirely sure what she is but 'shoddy' definitely isn't it

Regarding the boon, what do we want? I feel we are kinda comfortable right now, I guess we could ask for the sabbatical to go to Ulthuan, but that does not seem like the kind of boon this is.
We should probably ask for something that not only benefits us, but the Karak as a whole, but I can't think of anything.
Maybe we should wait until BoneyM gives us a few examples of potential favors before deciding.

I rather like [ ] Battle: General of Fog and [ ] Blooded > Campaigner as results from the campaign, and [ ] Battle: Strategy & Tactics: Greenskins would make everything nice and even with our Strategy & Tactics: Undead and Skaven. Very satisfying.

I wouldn't say no to a Strategy & Tactics: Dwarf, what with acknowledging Dwarf strengths at holding an entrenched position and also leading them on some un-Dwarfy (or perhaps that's Kazador-like) raids.

[ ] Karak: Polyglot would be useful, although it would have been most useful a year ago. [ ] Karak: Collegiate would also be okay. I'll probably end up voting for one of the Library perks though, because I love that Library. [ ] The great library of Karak Eight Peaks in paticular has the most potential for story hooks.

I'm not 100% in love with [ ] Personal: Ancestor-Gods, but the Personal traits are a bit slim pickings, and I don't really want to remove the Sigmar negatrait until he actually is useful. Get your shit together, Sigmar.

@BoneyM , how about a Trait for doomed last stands, both turning them around and taking advantage of them a la Mors's final days? [ ] Hold the Gate or [ ] Siegebreaker or something like that.

@BoneyM: Not sure if it'd be a K8P or a personal option, but:

Runic Enchanter: You've seen, felt, and channelled the power of collaboration between enchantment and runework. You get a bonus to studying and working on projects that combine the two, and to persuading runesmiths to participate in such collaborations.

Falls into the 'perverse incentive' category.

Would definitely need more of a foundation laid before something like that ended up on her charsheet. The heavy lifting for the Eye was done by others, and that's the only significant example of combining runes and magic she's been involved in.
