Huh, random thought, but can elves actually learn necromancy? Like, they probably don't need to, and don't really run the risk of accidental Dhar, but if one decided for whatever reason that they really needed an army of undead, what would happen? How terrifying would an elven necromancer/vampire be?

hey fish, not to sound like a jerk, but have you eaten anything/drank water today? got any meds you should be taking?
I get that Fish can be difficult, but read the banner again and then consider what you wrote.

Druuchi are the original Dhar users from which Nagash learned and then created Necromancy on its foundation. Seems like they should be able to learn.

this is true.

@Omegahugger you can't just go dissing bone daddy-o like that.

Without his labors resurrecting abel would be a pipe dream!
He is the Marie Curie of Necromancy. A genius that changed the field forever, but who in hindsight made some decisions he probably shouldn't have.

Silvania was fortunate enough not to get so infested with Dhar as to make life impossible unlike the Desolation. That does not really speak to the great utility of Dhar.
That wasn't a question of luck, that was by design.

Teaching Vlad von Carnstein to avoid Dhar exposure in humans was a lesson Frederick van Hal died for, and I will not have his memory tarnished by letting it vanish!

They should be able to learn necromancy but not become vampires. Vampirism is a purely human oriented process.

For now.

I maintain that reverse engineering the process would be a way to solve the dwarven population problem.

My point was not about the effect of Dhar on people but on the environment. It literally kills all life if you have enough of it.
Anything can literally kill all life if you have a high enough concentration of it, including life itself.

Huh. Strange there aren't more Druuchi necromancers then. You'd think one or two of them would go for it given the Chaos hordes, the other elves, the Lizardmen, the Skaven, and just all the shit they have to deal with. Or did no one ever bother learning necromancy back from Nagash?

Dwarves and magic don't go well together. One could say they have a rocky relationship considering channeling magic into a dwarf results in a dwarf statue.

Learning necromancy back from Nagash is easier said than done. Nagash captured the original dark elf party, got the information out of them without the elves realizing just how much Nagash had learned and then innovated using Nehekharan priestly lore.

More than anything Nagash is proof that humans can get to the same sort of peaks as elves when it comes to magic - singlehandedly innovating so much from so little is easily Teclis level and not something a random dark elf sorceress can replicate.

In the beginning, thread madness attacks were spaced by 24 days. Then twelve, then six, then every two days. The last one was a day ago. In twelve hours, we could be seeing thread madness every four hours, until it occurs every ten minutes. Thread, we should witness a double madness event before the next update.

So the next update is in ten minutes then?

I know right? I mean, we've practically handed him the Karak on a silver platter, and if we can keep this up to claim Yar and even possibly Rhyn, there would be no practically about it. Considrring the fluff on his character sheet already, I could totally see him deciding making absolutely damn sure Mathilde stayed in K8Ps was the best course of action. Of course that means we can't woo Kragg, but I think just having him as a best buddy is good enough.
Nah. To be serious, I reckon that we're not exactly doing him a favor. We might facilitate change but Belegar is looking for Dawi who are changing.
Belebro has his whole life been chasing a pipedream, wanting to be a symbol for his species and bring forth a return to the Good Old Days™ when Dawi were someone to be reckoned with. We gave him that, and now he's sitting in a Karak of which they're using 10 or so percent of. He wants to look for the future, but everywhere he turns he only sees how far they have fallen.
Don't get me wrong, he's grateful and all that, but somewhere deep down I reckon that he would have preferred if we were a Dawi, and not a Human. Not because of racism, but simply because he would've liked to see the same success we have had, in a Dawi. He needs to see the same success we have had, in a Dawi, to keep having faith in his own race being able to pull themselves up out of this hole they've fallen into.

In my opinion and interpretation of events.

Can you even get double madness? Wouldn't it just extend and build exponentially until we're debating what, exactly, would be sufficient velocity to fire a magical friendship pony in order to kill all the Chaos Gods with one fell swoop?

So assuming that everything goes well and we at the very least hold on to what we gained without any significant loss of life, how smug do you all think Mathilde will be when it comes time for the council report?

Still undecided. If it turns out looking like the full and complete reclamation isn't that far off, I might leave it for that so Mathilde can get her shiny new perk just as Belegar sockets his eighth sapphire.
Dwarfdom will probably lose their collective shit over that? Because unholy god. This will have gone incredibly well.

edit: @Sinsystems given the ratmothers, probably not very.

Her god is the god of cats, and she emulates him farr too wel. There are no limits to the smugness she will possess.
