Okay, here's a preliminary plan that puts our focus largely to entirely on our task.

First, it tries to lock in a good knowledge of the written language, by using the translation+checking action combined with a broad swathe of retrieved documents. Notably, Max is translating Moulder materials, Johann is getting Skyre materials, Adela is getting Mors materials, and the Ubersreik/Mousillon actions are getting Pestilens materials, so our knowledge of the Queekish lexicon should be broadening significantly- still has holes in the Eshin department but I'm not willing to poke Eshin on this given that most of our paranoia centers there.

Second, in preparation for next turn it builds a stronger rapport with Qrech, which will hopefully give us a better understanding of his mind and make him more receptive to our arguments, and tries to convince him to be more selfish. This is intended to lay the groundwork for a "get him to teach us spoken Queekish" action next turn. In anticipation of that it also increases Wolf's intelligence so that he can hopefully assist with anything the language requires which our human physiology can't quite manage.

The paper on Queekish is NOT published as spreading knowledge of our project so widely seems far too likely to provoke skaven response, to me.

This plan does sacrifice personal development and unrelated research in order to accomplish its goal, but if we want to translate as much of Queekish as possible without tipping Qrech off before pushing him to turn and teach us properly, and we're trying to do so in a timely fashion, I think it does the job better than any other plan I've yet seen proposed.

[ ]Plan Translation Focus
-[ ] MAX: Study an artefact: Chaos Dwarf Anatomy Book
-[ ] JOHANN: Join him on raids with the aim of finding written correspondence (Skryre).
-[ ] DUCK: Adela's started her education in Dwarven engineering. Escort her to do field-testing with some of Gotri's prototypes, and grab what Queekish you can while doing so (Mors).
-[ ] Found an internal investigation division, to investigate possible misconduct.
-[ ] Supply a steady stream of Queekish documents for Qrech to translate, and carefully check the results for consistency.
-[ ] Seek to build a stronger rapport with Qrech, and provide enough sources of mental stimulation that you can turn your attention elsewhere.
-[ ] Convince Qrech that the Underempire has no way of knowing he's even alive, and that he should prioritize the comfort with which he will live the rest of his life.
-[ ] Wolf is fully grown and a Very Good Boy. Train him. (increases his intelligence, he may learn to speak Praestantia)
-[ ] Travel to Ubersreik and Mousillon to try to claim any captured Skaven writings.
-[ ] Have additional rooms excavated underneath your Penthouse: -100gc for 4 rooms.
-[ ] Write a paper: The ability of Alkharad to assume a projected form of mist. (ALMOST FADED)

What the hell, plan makers? No one wants to go to the Empire to hold classes? That's strategic level insight, right there. We need to do that to ease the Empire burden. That thing will help a lot. Surely we can spare one action, even if it is an overwork action somewhere else?

See this is the kinda thing that makes me want to become an Ulgu Ringwraith, just so we have extra theme cred when we claim to be: The Witch-Queen of Vala-Azril-Ungol.
Matty is Gandalf though, and she'll prove it by fighting the Dragon of Ziflin from the lowest dungeon to the highest peak, until at last its ruin is smote upon the mountainside!

So, problems I have with this plan. It doesn't keep to the committal some folks made to study and do certain things:

-It doesn't study the gem, which is strange because the entire point of taking that was so we could throw it at our Golds. If we don't then there isn't anything to do with it, and it enters the On the Shelf cycle like Vitae.

-It doesn't study the Vitae, which doesn't help answer the concerns of people who said we should study it on the side first before proposing it which was a strong reason the plan that didn't suggest it won. And it means next vote cycle the Vitae project will just get brought up again, with none of the prereqs some folks mentioned and more vitriol from it being delayed. Again.

-It doesn't cap off the hype of the Temple of Ranald that quite a few have expressed interest in.

Put those in and I might vote for it. Without them I don't like it.

We really shouldn't take Overwork, its a terrible idea for next turn where important stuff might be starting up. Like finishing Queekish lexicon.

It'll keep.

Could also prove it by making friends with it, since Gandalf was good at making friends with people.

This is how I think we should go about the job, keep him just low key getting used to his new future for now and get enough basics out of him we'll at least be able to reconstruct the majority of the written language even if we lose him next turn. Then next turn we turn up the heat and have him teach the spoken language or else. Since it plays things out slower with him there's enough time to get some other items done as well.

[ ] MAX: Study an artefact: Skaven book on the Anatomy of Chaos Dwarves
[ ] JOHANN: Study an artefact: Unknown black gem

[ ] You have set up a Shrine to Ranald. Expand it into a Temple to the Gambler - a gambling hall with clean cards, guaranteed unloaded dice, fresh sawdust in the fighting ring, and a lottery every Festag. Costs 100gc.
[ ] Investigate how living things react to exposure to the Vitae.
[ ] Wolf is fully grown and a Very Good Boy. Train him. (increases his intelligence, he may learn to speak Praestantia)

I'd like to keep working on the Skaven firearm if possible, but understand if that gets bumped down on the list in favour of doing our proper job.

We'd have to drop the Wolf action unfortunately, since that'd tip us over into Overwork and -10 on the turn after it that you're thinking of where we press him to teach us.

Our current translation methodology is working pretty well, tbh. I don't really see a reason to make any big changes or try any major gambits at this time.

It's very tempting to me to get Max to help Johann with the Ratling Guns or for us to do it as a duck action, just so Johann can stop sulking about it at our duckling meetings haha.

Initial thoughts:

-Queekish is now our actual task, meaning we're expected to get it done in a timely manner. We need to pick up the pace.
-I do not consider any outcome that does not include at least partial knowledge of spoken Queekish and full knowledge of written Queekish to be an adequate fulfillment of our task.
-If we want to try to convince Qrech to outright teach us Queekish, we need to deepen our rapport first before trying to sell him on something so huge.
-We should also teach Wolf Praestantia - we need his nose.
-We should focus hard on Queekish this turn - the sooner we get it all the way done, the sooner we can do other things. I want to do rapport and documents (from a different clan) or rapport and anatomy book this turn, leading into the full teaching attempt next turn.
-No more than 1 action on snakejuice this turn. We should be on Queekish for at least 2 turns, and no more than two actions are needed for safety testing snakejuice to the point we can reasonably pitch it as a project.

I'd say we did due diligence by publishing in the first place. Any more than that is more like generosity on our part (Except for the fact we probably get favor) then something we need to do. It would be fun to do it though but I think they'll be happy enough for us to lecture on it even if it takes a few turns to make time.

No. I don't think so. This is one of those things you do not rush. Trying to take an entire language takes time and is best done over a long period of time.

Yeah, the key of Waaagh and Peace was that it was readable. It was digestable by everyone. Thus it was usable by anyone with skill in counterspelling, so most Journeymen and up with likely required reading as a text for Apprentices.

Understandable on all counts, and thanks for the feedback. However, there aren't enough actions for all of those things without turning the plan from "let's do a really great job on this Queekish project" to "let's put a bit of effort into Queekish while also pursuing a bunch of other projects", which is what most plans are right now.

It sounds like you simply aren't interested in a focused plan that does our job well, in which case the plan I proposed is not for you. That's fine; we can afford to dilute our focus onto other matters. Belegar's not going to yell at us for half-assing our job even if we put in minimum effort on Queekish and stretch the project to two years; it's not like he knows anything about how hard running interrogations is and "I don't want to publish until I have everything done throughly" is a pretty dwarf sentiment that would buy us some time.

But if I were writing a plan which doesn't focus primarily on our job, to the point that it freed up 2-3 AP on independent projects, I wouldn't be spending those AP on Vitae and Temple. Vitae is one of a dozen development/research paths Mathilde has and I simply don't care about it as much as developing her prowess with ulgu and the Temple is a less interesting way to approach the religious aspect of Mathilde's life than divine magic, so anything Ranald-centric would be Study Coin for me, not Build Temple.

I don't think we can fit studying AV, studying the black gem and the Ranald temple at the same time. Two of them sure, but three is abit too much, let's pace ourselves. We should also take 2 actions to retrieve documents in case one fails.

We may not have that time. I'd be fine with a plan that focuses on setup (training Wolf and building a rapport) this turn, but just providing Qrech with more stuff to translate is insufficient (and probably won't lead to full knowledge of Queekish anyway.)

(Also, thought on translation materials: we're probably tapped out on what Mors correspondence can teach us, meaning we need to hit Skryre/Eshin or go abroad if we want Queekish knowledge via reading mail.)

Also, I don't want to half-ass our job. I especially don't want to half-ass this job, which has more potential to harm the Under-Empire than anything else we could possibly do. To me, that means at least two personal actions plus info raiding/book translation, and the same again every turn until we've got it done.

Like an year? Because a turn lasts 6 months and a project usually takes 2. This is after we've already interacted with him for an year already. We aren't exactly rushing here.

See, to me this entire trip has been a gamble. Could we achieve anything going there? Could we do what we wish? Could we survive? Would it work and would we actually win?

All of this, all the way up to the slaying of the Prophet of Only Gork. A gamble of epic proportions, that still continues. Boney has said that it is possible to try to recreate what we did in the Temple but it is a Gamble that we will get anything beyond "nothing much happens" out of that action. The coin study is one of the most difficult things we've attempted so far, being conceived of as the first step in opening an entirely new field and paradigm of magic. Thusly I think having a temple to the Gambler who let us have this opportunity in the first place before we make the attempt is sound, and very fitting.
