I'm thinking of trying to grab Julia.

I'd feel weird poaching her from Roswita, tbh.

Anything goes for the EIC, but Max still has to finish translating the anatomy book.

Right! Revisions! Here's three potential plans for doing the bare minimum at our actual job and spending a bunch of time looking at magic goo!

Plan #1 invests 3 entire action on research into Snake Fluid, including investigating the effects of magic-dampening runes. Vote for this is you want to get as deep an understanding of our favorite liquid's underlying properties, and a start on applying it to runecraft!
[ ]Plan Get That Runic Juice
-[ ] MAX: Study an artefact: Chaos Dwarf Anatomy Book
-[ ] JOHANN: Join him on raids with the aim of finding written correspondence (Skryre).
-[ ] DUCK: Adela's started her education in Dwarven engineering. Escort her to do field-testing with some of Gotri's prototypes, and grab what Queekish you can while doing so (Mors).
-[ ] Put policies in place that local news should be collected and sent to you (rumour mill).
-[ ] Supply a steady stream of Queekish documents for Qrech to translate, and carefully check the results for consistency.
-[ ] Investigate the exact circumstances required to induce a transformation.
-[ ] Investigate how living things react to exposure to the Vitae.
-[ ] Investigate how the Vitae reacts to Dwarven magic-dampening Runes. (2 Dwarf favours)

Plan #2 eschews a third research action, and the expenditure of valuable Dwarf Favors, to build a bar and get toasted.

-[ ] You have set up a Shrine to Ranald. Expand it into a Temple to the Gambler - a gambling hall with clean cards, guaranteed unloaded dice, fresh sawdust in the fighting ring, and a lottery every Festag. Costs 100gc.

Plan #3 sends us on a lecture circuit because I think that sounds cool and fun.

Feedback welcome! What do y'all want to do to expand our penthouse? Where should we apply the coins? What paper should we write? (I'm leading towards the Alkharad's mistform trick because I want to emulate it and become Warhammer!Reaper)

[] Preliminary Plan: Season of the Rat
-[ ] MAX: Unknown black gem, stolen from the Skaven.
Would have prefered AV, but his lack of enhanced magesight might miss something, which is specially bad when i want to test security first.
-[ ] JOHANN: Join him on raids with the aim of finding Skaven Gas Masks (Clan Skryre).
Need those masks to deal with our mark.
-[ ] DUCK: Johann's investigation into the ratling gun has hit a wall. See if you can help.
Need to clear his schedule so he can deal with the masks, also it seems he will be stuck here forever if we don't help and we have a lot of things for him to research.
-[ ] EIC: Start building a paramilitary river navy to ensure the coming trade explosion doesn't lead to a similar explosion in riverine banditry.
Caravello learned this lesson too late, it's not too late for us yet.
-[ ] PAPER: The ability of Alkharad to assume a projected form of mist.
Get it before it fades, we can watch more waaagh later.
-[ ] PENTHOUSE: Have a gyrocopter landing pad built into your balcony.
It's not a penthouse without an helipad.
-[ ] QRECH: Try to convince him outright to teach you Queekish.
Big risk, big rewards
-[ ] GAMBIT: Convince Qrech that the Underempire has no way of knowing he's even alive, and that he should prioritize the comfort with which he will live the rest of his life.
Goes well with the other, not even sure this is a lie, if it is; Deceiver, else Gambler on the action itself.
-[ ] SELF IMPROVEMENT: Practice shooting while invisible. (applies to Substance of Shadow; will apply to Invisibility)
We got the spells, now have to capitalize on them.
-[ ] King Belegar's divergence from Dwarven cultural norms is starting to show. You're not sure if there's anything you could do to help, but maybe you could try anyway.
He deserves better.
-[ ] Investigate how living things react to exposure to the Vitae.
We need to start if we want to ever propose it.

Preliminary plan, only really care about the Johann actions.

Okay, so this is a vote to make a big push and just outright convince Qrech to reach us Queekish. No more raiding, no more going after written materials. Flat out, teach us.

1. I start off with the "build a repport" option (and I'm sure BoneyM will do it in that order) to maximize our connection and get into his head to reduce the DC for the request,
2. I put the Gambler on the critical roll instead of the Deciever because convincing him to teach us will be a roll and we need that bonus.
3. I teach Wolf to speak, which I know a lot of you really want, so that he can help us with the Scent portion of Queekish.
4. I do keep Max on the Anatomy book, since he already started it.
5. Johann on the Gem since we promised that for ourselves.
6. Even leaves an action for progress on Aethryic Vitae!
7. Decided to put off the Queekish paper until we've hopefully expanded our lexicon.

Now this is a gamble... an awful lot is going to ride on one roll' I understand that. You want to keep up the written stuff, go with that, but continued raids that may provoke the Skaven are a risk of their own.

[] Plan Learn to Speak

[ ] MAX: Study an artefact: Skaven book on the Anatomy of Chaos Dwarves, partially translated.
[ ] JOHANN: Study an artefact: Unknown black gem, stolen from the Skaven.
[ ] DUCK: Panoramia's about ready to test for Magister, but she doesn't have a lot of free time to prepare. Work with her to help make the most of every spare minute. (NEW)
[ ] Put policies in place that local news should be collected and sent to you (rumour mill).

[ ] Seek to build a stronger rapport with Qrech, and provide enough sources of mental stimulation that you can turn your attention elsewhere. (NEW-ish)
[ ] Try to convince him outright to teach you Queekish. (NEW) - COIN HERE

[ ] Convince Qrech that the Underempire has no way of knowing he's even alive, and that he should prioritize the comfort with which he will live the rest of his life.
[ ] Convince Qrech you're ambitious and loyal only to yourself, and you're willing to repay his cooperation in ways that will benefit the Under-Empire.

[ ] Investigate the exact circumstances required to induce a transformation.

[ ] Wolf is fully grown and a Very Good Boy. Train him. (increases his intelligence, he may learn to speak Praestantia)

[ ] [SERENITY] Write a paper: The ability of Alkharad to assume a projected form of mist.

[ ] Your dungeon was built with a reasonable amount of paranoia. Apply an unreasonable amount of paranoia.

[ ] The Gambler: Convince Qrech to teach Queekish.

Its worth noting that we got Military terminology from the military focused clan of Mors, so we'll probably just get more military terminology if we raid them so I'd suggest Skryre as a target instead.

[] Plan Rat gossip and Snake Secrets
-[] MAX: Study an artefact: Chaos Dwarf anatomy book
-[] JOHANN: Join him on raids with the aim of finding written correspondence and a gas mask in Clan Skryre.
-[] DUCK: Hubert wants glory. Take him on a sortie, with the side-goal of finding written correspondence (Choose: Clan Mors).
-[] Found an internal investigation division, to investigate possible misconduct.
-[] Supply a steady stream of Queekish documents for Qrech to translate, and carefully check the results for consistency.
-[] No Qrech gambit
-[*] Hire a Priest of Esmerelda to teach the We.
-[] Investigate the exact circumstances required to induce a transformation.
-[] Investigate how living things react to exposure to the Vitae. COIN.
-[ ] Investigate how the Vitae reacts to Dwarven magic-dampening Runes. (2 Dwarf favours)
-[] Create Tower (of Oh Dhar)
-[] The Gambler: Investigate how living things react to exposure to the Vitae.

-[] Serenity: Military lexicon of written Queekish (TIMELESS)

The anatomy book is really freaking obvious.

Hubert is the only one who hasn't gotten solid progress in his goal, and his goal can help our job. Dwarfs don't care about things that aren't happening in front of them, so, Mors.

What we're doing right now is WORKING. We've made a great start all things considered, and if we just keep at it we don't have to rely on Ranald-Sama once again via the Deceiver because he's already Deceived. And it's the option best suited for using with the minions and ducklings. No need to try something else that might cause our efforts to backfire.

After this turn, we'll be able to overwork again, allowing us to either take more actions on Queekish that aren't simply supplying documents or do more research/self-improvement.

The lexicon is strategically important, we SHOULD be benefiting from Max in this if he sticks around again on the same option, and we might get some extra insights from using the brain meats. Add that it's Timeless, and well...

And if we're going to be studying the Vitae, we really need the emergency release tower.

I included both because I wanted to keep both sides of the war weak. I could see Skryre alone being a good target too though...

I really really want to see an attempt at a mass invasion of Karak Eight Peaks via an overland assault now.

Keep in mind that we don't need a full translation of the chaos book, we are going to be cross checking and he has no way to know what parts we already know.

Edit: also, the mask is useless as they will only work for skaven when we get them, we need Johann to reverse engineer them and he can't do that if he is stuck on the Ratling.

[] Plan The Great Deception
-[ ] MAX: Study an artefact: specify which. (Chaos Dwarf anatomy book)
-[ ] JOHANN: Join him on raids with the aim of finding written correspondence Skryre
-[ ] DUCK: Panoramia's about ready to test for Magister, but she doesn't have a lot of free time to prepare. Work with her to help make the most of every spare minute.

-[ ] Supply a steady stream of Queekish documents for Qrech to translate, and carefully check the results for consistency. (will require acquiring said documents somehow)
-[ ] Convince Qrech that the Underempire has no way of knowing he's even alive, and that he should prioritize the comfort with which he will live the rest of his life.
-[ ] Convince Qrech you're ambitious and loyal only to yourself, and you're willing to repay his cooperation in ways that will benefit the Under-Empire.

-[ ] Your dungeon was built with a reasonable amount of paranoia. Apply an unreasonable amount of paranoia.
-[ ] Travel to Ubersreik and Mousillon to try to claim any captured Skaven writings.
-[ ] The Deceiver:
-[] Serenity: The ability of Alkharad to assume a projected form of mist.

Basically this is a plan that aims to try and maximize our ability to try and have Qrech be willing to teach us Queekish next turn by ruse cruising him as much as possible with Deceiver along with some other nice stuff like helping PanPan study for her exam and finally getting the temple up.

[ ] MAX: Study an artefact: Chaos Dwarf Anatomy Book
Obvious choice here to prevent him getting a penalty on the translation.

[ ] JOHANN: Join him on raids with the aim of finding written correspondence (Choose: Clan Mors, Skryre or Eshin).
[ ] JOHANN: Study an artefact: Black Gem
Both of these would make good choices for Johann. Eshin is the clan we're worried about and Skyre has the better tech.

[ ] DUCK: Johann's investigation into the ratling gun has hit a wall. See if you can help.
[ ] DUCK: Hubert wants glory. Take him on a sortie, with the side-goal of finding written correspondence (Choose: Clan Mors, Skryre or Eshin).
[ ] DUCK: Gretel's motivated by wealth. Take her on a raid, looking for wealth and Queekish (Choose: Clan Mors, Skryre or Eshin).
Various Duckling choices, the Ratling gun might help Johann move onto a new project, the raiding actions are good for raiding.

[ ] Put policies in place that local news should be collected and sent to you (rumour mill).
[ ] Reach out to Julia to find out if she's interested in being poached or passing on information.
[ ] Start building a paramilitary river navy to ensure the coming trade explosion doesn't lead to a similar explosion in riverine banditry. (NEW)[/SPOILER]
Various EIC policies Maybe we'll even get that rumour mill this time.

Current Task: Queekish
We need to spend at least one action here.

[ ] Wolf is fully grown and a Very Good Boy. Train him. (increases his intelligence, he may learn to speak Praestantia)
The action we need to take. It'd be awkward if we straight up can't understand Queekish. Should be useful for gaining more general context from Skaven as well that we are otherwise missing due to a lack of sensitive hearing and smell. Additionally this is a straightforwardly good choice that generally gives us a fair amount of useful advantages such as Radio Wolf, Librarian Wolf, Translator Wolf, Generally awesome Wolf.

Other:
[ ] Gain enough control of your attraction to smoke and gases to have it collect away from your face. (NEW)
We spent 5 favor in attempt to deal with our gas problem but it looks like we may have a superior alternative. Have Ulgu itself push deadly gasses away from Mathilde's Face. This is a good general upgrade to consider.

@BoneyM, if we went to Marienburg to set up an elf book purchase arrangement, what's the highest category of books we could get? Or would that be determined by a roll?

A Possible Duel
Just had an image of Mathilde dueling the dragon across the skies of Eightpeaks with shadowknife/branulhune/skywalk/smoke and mirrors...

----

The dragon's wing beats clove the air as the beast dragged itself higher, thrashing with tail and claws as it sought to create distance from it's tormentor.

Hit, a broken grey figure fell away behind the dragon, limp for moment then stiffening and returning to movement. It threw a fan of black darts at the dragon's hind quarters then exploded into smoke.

Timed almost to the instant the knives sank into the dragon's flank, a cloud of smoke burst into existence just off its head and a blade swept out, stabbing into it's right eye.

Mathilde left it stuck there as the dragon jerked back and rolled, slashing blind but missing as she scampered away across the air. Her almost constant chanting under her breath switched, and she threw herself backwards off the end of her spell, racing through shadowknife once again. There was a perfect view, as she fell, of the dragon teaching the apex of it's remaining momentum and snapping open it's wings, head bowing down and remaining eye burning opon her. She was about even with it's back legs when the breath weapon of an emperor dragon began to roar towards her, midway through it's tail when her fan of knives snapped out towards it's stomach.

She manifested a moment later metres above it's right wing in a puff of grey smoke, the burst at the beginning of her teleport already blasted away.

Right in the dragon's blind spot.

When Branulhune disappeared from it's eye it may have clued the dragon in, but it was too late to dodge as Mathilde cleaved through the first wingbone and deep into the second. (Like snapping the fingers of a hand.) The dragon dropped, wing crumpling as it lashed out with it's tail to intercept the falling Magister. And that blow struck, ripping through her left knee and sending most of her leg spiraling away.

She forced through her spell and avoided a follow-up kick with another burst of smoke and spray of black knives. The matching burst of the pair was well above the dragon, and Mathilde collapsed to the air as blood gushed out of her thigh, stumbling through the memnomic to trigger regrowth on the heels of skywalk.

The dragon hit the ground in the caldera. Dwarven cannon from the citadel, given a target within their arcs, opened up with a salvo. And Mathilde Webber, leg regrown, stood up on the last second of her skywalk. She summoned branulhune and moments later, began to plummet.

Well only if we're trying to learn spoken Queekish, and so far the plans suggested that I've seen besides Briefvoice's deal with written Queekish only.

I would like to emphasize how

What we're doing right now is WORKING, this stream of Skaven correspondence. We've made a great start all things considered, and if we just keep at it we don't have to rely on Ranald-Sama once again via the Deceiver because he's already Deceived. @BoneyM how would correspondence from Eshin or Skryre be handled given Qrech is Decieved in believing this to be aimed solely at Mors?

"That's the failsafe. It can't fire without a crystal, and there's no crystals for Dwarves or Halflings or man." Unless you're piloting it, in which case it's controlled by your mind, not the console. You don't say that out loud. King Belegar knows that part, but not everyone has to.

...

Apart from the click as the button sinks down as far as it will go, there's nothing but silence. But this is more than an absence of sound, this is silence that devours sound, somehow growing louder by the moment. Ulgu is siphoned from the Room of Dawn and Dusk and in the space between heartbeats, the sky is made to forget where the sun should be, and the shadow that was pointing straight north is now centered almost exactly on the greenskins below. The silence echoes, there's a hint of a scrape of metal on metal, and the shadow of Karag Nar deepens into a solid black...

...

Prince Gotri, naturally, is the first to be overcome by curiousity and prod one of the corpses, and the dead Orc collapses gently in on itself. All that remains is an empty shell of ash, and the slightest touch is all it takes to rob the remains of even that cohesiveness.

"From the inside out," Gunnars says with grim satisfaction. "Zharrvengryn ignites the energies that bind body to soul."

Holy shit. This is the stuff that apocalyptic end-game villains are made of.

Three Swords from the Empire's men under the sky,
Eight Gifts from the Dwarf-lord in his halls of stone,
Eight Dawongr who answered the call,
Setting the Dark Dame on her dark throne
In Karak Eight Peaks where the Shadows lie.
One Tower to rule them all, One Tower to shield them,
One Tower to find them all, and in the darkness burn them,
In Karak Eight Peaks where the Shadows lie.

@BoneyM, if we went to Marienburg to set up an elf book purchase arrangement, what's the highest category of books we could get? Or would that be determined by a roll?

Same deal as Empire/College books, Extensive for magical topics, Esoteric for everything else.

How about this @BoneyM :
[ ] Travel to Ubersreik and Mousillon to try to find any freed Skaven slaves that know some Queekish. (NEW)

Would that work?

Yes. Up to the thread to decide whether that has a better or worse chance of success than rescuing someone yourself.

@BoneyM how would correspondence from Eshin or Skryre be handled given Qrech is Decieved in believing this to be aimed solely at Mors?

He's said he wouldn't have a problem with undermining non-Moulder Skaven.

See this is the kinda thing that makes me want to become an Ulgu Ringwraith, just so we have extra theme cred when we claim to be: The Witch-Queen of Vala-Azril-Ungol.
