[X] Plan Translation Extraction (Ultimate Tower Edition), 10 Pull Gacha Edition

I'm not Boney, but I can tell you it ain't happening. AP are a way to restrict update bloat first and foremost. Nothing besides cloning Boney would give us more AP (in a sustained manner).
This might give a bonus to rolls, like the library, but it won't give AP.
Not rly, hiring people for stuff gives something similar to AP.

I mean, these stopped being side stories a while ago (which makes me quite sad, but such is life).
I advise collating them together in one place. Have one of them posted in full, and copy all the later ones into spoilers edited into that post, like with the Collection of Important Information. Whenever you post a new one, link back to that post, and ask for that single post to be threadmarked as "Collection of Magda Wessen Novels" sidestory or something.
Keep in mind Boney's earlier remark: "... Now I've got two options, either alienate a reader or put a seven-line joke about Dwarf smut into the threadmarks."
Seven lines at a time is reasonably not worth threadmarking for a thread this big.

Wouldn't it be smarter to write that paper about the vampire's abilities since A, we'll likely fight against greenskin magic again thus refreshing it and giving the plus 10. B, we aren't likely to fight a vampire who uses the same ability any time soon and finally C, we already know that this paper will at least get the confirming bonus since the ability was only rumoured and not well documented.
So the thing is that both this turn and next turn, we can write either the Waaagh countering paper, the Waaagh discussion paper, or the poof-into-mist paper without modifiers to our die roll. Next turn we can write the mist paper before it fades away and we get a penalty; the reason why we're not doing it now is because writing the Waaagh countermagic paper now means six extra months of the Empire's wizards having access to our insights on countering the magic of one of the Empire's most common enemies, whereas Necrarchs are few and far between.
How quickly we ditch our plans to honor Ranald. :(
I was agitating for the Temple extremely actively, but even I wanted to hold off. Ranald blessed us by making this Tower way more awesome than we expected it could be: it honors Him to follow through on that and make it as awesome as we can make it. Furthermore... Ranald might be our oldest friend, but Belegar is in a bad place right now, and I think building our doom fortress to dwarf standards of quality will cheer him up.

The issue is that we picked a Project that neither of our Golds could really help with, and faced action crunch in the form of "needing to get a specific spell learned to avoid a malus" and "needing to devote an action to our prisoner." Next project, hopefully we get an assignment our Golds can meaningfully contribute to, and we won't have the need to learn a sneaking spell clogging up our AP.

Nah, they still got threadmarked, just under apocrypha, and were about the same length. Though the idea still has merit, because it's actually a bit of a pain to write a new one will respecting the "canon". Though that's only been a concern for @Alliterate and me so far, since nobody else has produced such marvels.

Speaking of Power-matter... Hey, @BoneyM, what exactly do powerstones do, anyways, as far as spells are concerned? Because to make the tower of Dawn and Dusk we incorporated failed powerstones, but as far as we know power stones are just condensations of Wind-energy. Was the flaw either in a failure to condense it properly, or in a material result that was just formed oddly, resulting in a nonstandard effect?

Power stones are used as either a battery for normal spellcasting or a capacitor in enchanted items.

@BoneyM
Another idea I do not know how to put to plan-actions:
Because the mastered variant of Aethyric Armour makes her not tire from physical exertion would that not be a possible research? Grey wind does not do healing so does it in this instance or does magic replace her muscles or support it heavily? What is going on with that? Can it be exploited?

Petty and Lesser magics are not limited by the Wind used to cast them. Codifying Masteries into new spells is sometimes possible but it's a long and difficult process.

Not all that I want to do honestly, but it aligns close enough. Next turn I'm planning to push the thread to go for Vitae and the Temple as a capstone to all our hype.

Scribble on loose sheets of papers, haphazardly bound in twine, the title Lady Magister 2: Wings of Desire is barely legible.

Having gained the favor of GAZUL and the interest of his HIGH PRIEST, the stoic and mysterious GUNMAR, MAGDA WESSEN, now LADY MAGISTER of the GREY ORDER, has completed her GREAT WORK, the TOWER OF FLAMING SHADE. With this, she has RISEN to the HEIGHTS OF MAGICAL POWER, but HEIGHTS are often LONELY, as her loyal companions CONSTANCE BREW and JACOB GOLDENROD must seek their own ways of matching her GREAT DESTINY.

Yet danger stirs, for the SHADOW WAR of the UNDERWAY still paints the darkness red, and the MYSTERIOUS FIGURE, leader of the MOUSEMEN ASSASSINS, still has not fulfilled his promise of a second confrontation (See: The Magical Princess 3: More Is To Come). And on frozen Ziflin, hungry eyes shine with SAVAGE DESIRE for PRINCESS MADA and her accomplishments, with a HEART like FROZEN ICE.

Will MAGDA finally manage to find the LIGHT to her SHADOW? Will she DEFEND all she holds DEAR, and will her YEARNING for LOVE sway her from the PATH OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, or offer REDEMPTION?
I'd read it. :V

Honoring the hype has to happen.

I think our proposed projects next turn should include Vitae, Queekish, and probably "you want I should figure out why one of your Karags seems to border Silent Hill?*" Hopefully our Golds will have meaningful contributions to make.

*This brings up something that's been on my mind. Can we honor the astonishing courage of Dreng's rangers for walking into something that was very clearly the setup of a horror movie and managing to search the entire place top-to-bottom? Like, bravery in the heat of battle is one thing -- when there's a screaming monster charging at you, there isn't time to think about it, you do something brave and then it's over one way or another -- but bravery for the hours it must have taken to walk through a mountain that is completely silent and filled only with mangled corpses? Like, god damn, the absolute legend of a Morale test they passed. @BoneyM, obviously I'm not expecting an answer to "was there a roll to see if something mangled them too," but was there in fact a roll for them to not freak the fuck out?

2 AP on our official Task of weaponising a mountain.
2.5 AP on our self-appointed task of stealing Skaven secrets.
1 AP and 10 CF on self-improvement.
0.5 AP on spying on our neighbour.

/sigh We have so many other things to do :(

Grungni: Temple in Karagril (under construction). Dedicated to the Mining aspect.
Valaya: Shrines in Karag Lhune Chiselwards and Karag Nar.
Grimnir: Hall of Oaths in Karag Lhune. Dedicated to the Oathkeeper aspect. Shrine in Karag Nar.
Smednir: Shrine in Karag Lhune Chiselwards.
Thungni: Shrine in Karag Lhune secondary peak.
Morgrim: Shrine in Karag Lhune hangar.
Gazul: Shrine in Karag Lhune tombs.
Humm…

Some are of a religious bent, and you approve shrines to Shallya, Ulric, Myrmidia, Ursun, and the Lady. You also receive a few unexpected requests, and after a word to an equally bemused King Belegar, you plot out the future locations of shrines to Grimnir and Valaya.
Seems Edda might not be the only Advisor ignoring the non-Dwarf aspect of their position.
@BoneyM is there anyone overseeing the Undumgi's spiritual needs, and if so are they subordinated to Gunnars?

I personally think anti-air might really be better served with artillery, rather than more magic.
Fundamentally I agree but with a significant alteration: Aerial dominance is better served by mechanics than magic.
K8P already has a formidable air-force. 20 Gyrocopters is more than enough to deal with what almost any enemy could hope to bring. Those few things that can overcome the might of Dawi air superiority, like for example an Emperor Dragon, aren't going to be deterred by a handful of cannon or a Battle Spell we could setup as emplaced defences.

In point of fact, there is proof in the lore that Dwarven Ancestor Spirits can affect the living world.

Gotrek and Felix, in one of if not the first in the series, shows Gotrek and Felix journeying to Karak Eight Peaks in person and meeting a King Belegar who had no one and nothing to aid him but Clan Angrund itself.

There, in the ancient depths of the Karak, Gotrek was visited by the spirits of the Ancestors of Karak Eight Peaks. They begged Gotrek for help, because an ancient evil had desecrated there tombs and forced them back to the lands of the living.

After a great fight, Gotrek slays the Chaos Troll that had taken up residence in the Tomb of the Ancestors. As an army of Goblins close in on the pair, the Ancestral Spirits rise up as one, forming an army of Dwarven Ghosts that slaughter the Grobi and finally leaves the tomb peaceful at last.

They then tell Gotrek of how his doom waits for him, far greater and more terrible than he could ever imagine. Then they vanish, allowed finally to rest once more.

Dwarven Ancestor Spirits are known. They are real, and they are quite possibly the Only Undead type that won't be turned to evil. Even in death, they are still Dwarves. Nothing and no one will break there will.

@vsh, looking at your latest map I am concerned that its portrayal of the underway between Karag Lhune, Karag Nar, and the East Gate is deceptive. The way your map is set up it looks like there are two parallel routes from Karag Lhune to the East Gate, one of which goes through Karag Nar, but we know that's not true from this other map which pretty clearly shows that there's a single route from Karag Lhune to the East Gate and Karag Nar is reached by a branch off that, never independently.
That said your maps are great, please keep making them. Just trying to resolve an inconsistency here.

Nitpick: 1 AP. Half an AP for Johann, half an AP for Gretel.
Seems Edda might not be the only Advisor ignoring the non-Dwarf aspect of their position.

We know from an update a while back that the Undumgi set up shrines for themselves for their own gods, though they got permission from Belegar to set up shrines for dwarf gods too.

I concur completely.

...that said, I'd love to see Mathilde race to move the sun around in the sky so as to project Karag Nar's shadow into the air to hit a moving target. That would be some dogfighting brilliance.

Mhmm, honestly Mohnar trips me out a bit because "what the fuck?" is just plastered alllllllllllllllll over it.

You might as well just replace the entire mountain's texture pack with Da Fuc? in big neon letters.

E: Like honestly the fucking thing gets weirder the more we look at it, like its some kind of reverse scouting curse where things get weirder the harder you look.

Even if our Golds can't meaningfully contribute to the projects set forth, I think using them to work on the Skaven backlog is practical, doable, and reasonable. Having them ticking through that as our Material Science and Anomaly department is a decent baseline.

Hey hey, I provided the biggest example of Dwarf Ancestor spirits in the lore! It even involved Karak Eight Peaks in OTL!

Admittedly, here it seems the Hall of the Ancestors has still yet to fall, but this could be a different Hall than the one Gotrek found...

[X] Investigate how the We communicates with... itself?
[X] Join the Empire's attack on Under-Nuln.
It's plan voting, not line-item approval voting. You can look at the tally in Thread Tools to see what plans have been created, or you can propose your own, but the vote you have there isn't going to count for anything.

...I really want to investigate the We's communication, especially because I think it might have synergy with our familiar bond with Wolf, but shaking the AP loose for it is going to have to wait a turn or three, I feel.

The separate Lhune-East Gates tunnel is based on the order Belegar gave to the miners when we only had Lhune (don't have time to fish for a quote right now). It's not part of an ancient Underway tunnel network that is shown on a picture you link to. Maybe I should use different colors for this tunnel and the one to Und Uzgar that is also absent on the map of the Underway.

So, to me there are three big take-aways from this update when it comes to the tactical situation: mystery mountain, Eshin oversaturation, and the fucking dragon.

The mystery mountain is just that, a mystery. We don't know what's going on there, and none of the theories people have put forth have anywhere near the evidence needed to confirm them. That said, so long as we don't poke it it's probably safe enough to leave alone. I do have a nagging small fear that it might be somehow related to the missing Orc shamans in Karagril, but I will admit upfront that I think that's very unlikely.

The Eshin issue is potentially a big one. They're one of the nastiest clans to deal with, and if it weren't for the fact we have Mors between us and them at every below ground access point I'd be outright panicking about having an entire peak full of them within walking distance. See, a big chunk of the stuff Mathilde's been doing to help the reclamation? The scouting, the assassinations? That's Eshin's bread and butter, and a force this size will have a decent number of assassins within its ranks, any one of whom could potentially do to the Karaks what Mathilde did the Orcs. The fact that they're going to be much harder for us to go assassin on ourselves to boot is just the icing on the cake.

So, what can we do against them? Well, the only option we really have is to go maximum paranoia on our security, and then when we do come to blows with them to wipe them out ASAP. Don't give them any opportunities to sabotage us or cause us problems before we come into conflict, and then when we do move to wipe them out do it quickly enough that they can't work their tricks against us. Neither is exactly an easy option, but against Eshin there doesn't tend to be one; in my opinion the only Skaven faction that's worse to go up against is Pestilens.

And lastly, the dragon. Hoooo boy, the dragon. That thing is just not an enemy K8P has any hope of beating without truly horrific loses. Ridiculous toughness and physical power, flight, and potent magic use, all in one package? This thing could literally eat the best soldiers we have for breakfast, and then come back a second helping. Fighting it is an absolute last resort. Fortunately, we have two things going in our favour here; that it seems to be dormant or sleeping at present, and that it's intelligent and not an unthinking beast.

The first means it's not going to be a problem in the immediate future unless we get really unlucky (it decides tomorrow is a good day to wake up, a particularly stupid Orc decides to poke it, etc), and second means that even if it does wake it's not going to automatically come over and rip us a new one. Depending on its temperament we might be able to negotiate with it, or convince it to leave, or one of any number of things. Of course, it's equally possible that it'll just turn out to be an asshole who'll happily turn our mountains into glaciers for shits and giggles, but if that happens there's not a lot we can do about it.

As for fighting it, if it comes down to... well, from what I see our options basically boil down to artillery, battle magic, and running away. Any weapon that doesn't have to be carriage-mounted won't even annoy it, it'll shrug off or counter all but the most powerful magic, and whatever it throws at us will absolutely murder anything it hits. Once again, fighting this thing is a horrible idea, and one we should avoid if it's even remotely possible.
