So... spooky ethereal ghosts, do you guys think? A curse of some sort?

Mathilde, after she comes back after taking a step into Karag Mhonar: "Oh hey you're back early." "Mountain's haunted." "... What?" "*loads gear, gets ready to fire Sword of Gazul* Mountain's haunted."

Hmmm, Ice Dragon in Zilfin. Interesting. I wonder if we could solve that problem without having to fight it somehow? We do have a passing connection to a Dragon specialist in Asarnil, after all. If anything could keep an Ice Dragon honest, it would be a Star Dragon at our back. I don't think it is likely though. The Dragon probably sees the peak and everything within it as its hoard while the Dwarves want it back, so it seems unlikely that we can reach a peaceful solution.

Foreign Relations action against Skaven is interesting though if we go it could give the game away since the Under-Empire have intelligence profile on us.

I really want to interact with Panoramia deeply for her to finally get around to investigating the greenskin mushrooms

Ethereal defenders wouldn't explain the broken bones, though. It's something strong enough to break intruders, stealthy enough to avoid the Rangers, and intelligent enough to be sufficiently thorough in disposing of the corpses of trolls. I'm thinking either Strigoi or Blood Dragon with a blunt weapon.

The tower can be considered operational but I think we can do better.

I'm thinking a nice little light source to help extend our reach to throughout the night and in heavy cloud cover. Something tasteful that will ensure everyone feels safe under our watchful eye.

Well, look on the bright side... We have now another thing in which to spend favors and gold for our library...

... Wait crap, I had another idea for what it might be.

A Skaven NBC weapon of some sort. Nuclear, Biological, Chemical. (Well, Warpstone rather than Nuclear I suppose but you get the idea.)

Maybe they've irradiated or poisoned or plagued Karag Mhonar.

Trolls would be immune to Warpstone or plagues or poison though. So hence... No troll corpses. (Or on the other hand, maybe they just don't venture out at all.)

Aww, Edda. Sweetie. I want to give her a hug.
Oh, forgot to mention: I added a bunch of information to the Dramatis Personae page under each of the councillors.
Here's the relevant stuff so people don't have to flip back:
Diplomatic Relations:
Barak Varr: Eight Peaks has already enriched Barak Varr greatly, both from being the primary trade partner of Eight Peaks and Karak Azul, and from allowing greater trade with the distant East.
Karak Azul: Between opening up the world to them and empowering their beloved King's heir, Karak Azul can be considered the strongest of allies.
Karak Hirn: The current heir was on the Expedition, and earned enough glory on it to clear... whatever murky drama there was surrounding him.
Karak Izor: They were one of the biggest backers of the Expedition and Princess Edda now sits on the council.
Karak Kadrin: The Slayer Hold approves more of King Belegar's deeds than they disapprove of his priorities.
Karaz-a-Karak: Though not formalized in any way, there is a frosty rift between Karaz-a-Karak and Eight Peaks due to the disagreement between their Kings.
The Empire: Though occupied with internal matters, King Belegar has made a point of showing generosity to those few that did help, and the Emperor seems well-inclined towards Eight Peaks.
Ulrikadrin: Though they tend to be formal, they're aware how much they owe their current and continued existence the Karak Eight Peaks, and can be counted on for cooperation and mutual defence.
Zhufbar: They're mostly focused on matters closer to home, but Prince Gotri's position of power gives Eight Peaks ensures a good relationship.
Forces of Karak Eight Peaks:
Clan Huzkul: 10,000. Most clad only in chainmail, but they're fanatically loyal.
Clan Angrund: 1,000. Each armed and armoured in runic equipment from the Good Old Days.
Karagril Miners: 3,000. Split between the Norgrimling Ironbreakers (sans Gromril) and the Ironback Miners.
Karak Norn immigrants: 10,000. Well armed and experienced.
The Undumgi: 6,000. Armed with silversteel pikes and an odd affinity for the Dwarves.
Halfling Skirmishers: 5,000. Experienced Fieldwardens, hardened first in Sylvania and then on the Expedition.
Braganza's Besiegers: 1,000. Highly skilled, heavily armoured pavise crossbowmen on an extended contract.
Border Prince mercenaries: 3,000. Many have stuck around to spend their earnings, hope for future work, and enjoy the feeling of safety.
Barak Varr mercenaries: ~2,000-6,000. Given warning, those who normally guard trade can be called in for short-term, high-paying work.
Karak Eight Peaks Siege Weapons & Aircorp:
10 Gyrocopters (clattergun)
10 Gyrocopters (cannon)
4 Gyrocarriages (can be used as bombers)
40 crew-served Bolt Throwers
100 single-Dwarf Bolt Throwers
20 Grudge Throwers
20 Grapecannon
30 Greatcannon
10 Dwarf Cannon
Industries of Karak Eight Peaks:
Karagril silver mining (limited to mines north of Death Pass)
Silkweaving (in progress)
Loom design and construction (planning)
Halfling farming (subsistence)
Grungni: Temple in Karagril (under construction). Dedicated to the Mining aspect.
Valaya: Shrines in Karag Lhune Chiselwards and Karag Nar.
Grimnir: Hall of Oaths in Karag Lhune. Dedicated to the Oathkeeper aspect. Shrine in Karag Nar.
Smednir: Shrine in Karag Lhune Chiselwards.
Thungni: Shrine in Karag Lhune secondary peak.
Morgrim: Shrine in Karag Lhune hangar.
Gazul: Shrine in Karag Lhune tombs.

@BoneyM, I'm not sure if this is premature to ask, but would we have any idea, based on how Mathilde has seen Kragg make runes that interact with Wind Magic, whether it would be possible to spend enough Favours to get Kragg to make Mathilde a suit of armour that, like the Armour of Tarnus, doesn't interfere with her spellcasting?

I'm thinking in terms of whether it's worth trying to save up to 25 Favours for another epic artifact.

Oh, and i also just remembered that Supreme Patriarch Pantsless is also a dragon specialist, what with him turning into an eastern style dragon and raising another breed in the Imperial Zoo. He might also be able to give us valuable intelligence on Ice Dragons. Perhaps he'd even be interested enough to visit K8P in person because it tickles his fancy, just like Algard did.

hm, how do our various stealth work, cause it would be hilariously easy to just walk in, nap an egg and leg it

Could the mountain contain 'bad air.'

I feel the need to reiterate the consistence of broken bones among the corpses found.

No. His entire Runesmithing career has been under the assumption that Winds are for repelling or absorbing. Making something completely inert to magic is something he's got zero knowledge of.

@BoneyM does subsistence here mean subsustence for the halflings or K8P? Wondering if we are still reliant on food imports in case of a siege or raids on the trade route.

For K8P. Still reliant on imports but less so since the aqueduct was built, now it's just a matter of figuring out which crops work best here.

"Karagril silver mining (limited to mines north of Death Pass) "

@BoneyM, isn't K8P located south of the Death Pass?

Yes. They're mining veins in and under mountains on the other side.

Like, while dragons can theoretically be reasoned with in some circumstances; I'm pretty sure "vacate your home for the last however many centuries and don't take any of your hoard from it" is the sort of request that results in instant death.

Hmm, how much black lotus poison d'you think it'd take to kill a dragon? or at least make it vulnerable to leaping-from-invisibility coup de grace?

I wonder if we could release a bunch of farm animals into spooky death mountain and see what happens to them through a telescope.
