Is there a deep metaphysical reason to this or is it simply the case of the Runes treating the Winds stuck in the Enchantment as their personal "All you can eat" buffet?

Enchantments and runes both change the rules of reality, but in different directions. Trying to have them coexist in one item is like trying to put an oven in your freezer so you can cook your food without having to defrost it.

So for things like Gazul's Eye and waystones, would it be like hooking up the heat exhaust of the freezer to heat up the oven?

A pity that an air-ship is still too small, it would have been thematically cool for the ship to have both, but on the other hand it will have a gyrocopter on deck, that can stand in for our dwarf rep quite well, it doesn't have to be runes. In a way it it even better since we already have runes and magic combination, the Eye itself.

Speaking of that I wonder if we will inspire any radical engineers when we fly the airship to eight peaks itself. Gotri does know that lift gas is there now.

Does each additional Arcane Mark, even excluding the Mark of Ulgu, improve Mathilde's general spellcasting capability with Ulgu?

That sort of thing, yes. Miniaturization is hard. Designing something that fits in a warehouse is an entirely different world to designing something that fits in your pocket.
Does windherding apply to it? It's windherding, but it still hits the core idea of "make different magics play nice together".
After Bok, I'd kinda hoped to do some collaboration with Kragg eventually, since there's now evidence it's Traditional. We can't do Bok itself, but maybe something else.

No.

Try it and find out.

Related question but how big is Bok ? I not sure where on the scale from pocket size to karak size does he fit.

I can't remember if I ever gave his size in the text, but my mental image is about twice the height of a person.

I'm sorry but I doubt we even get kragg to hear the idea for longer then 30 seconds before the no. He's the arch-conservative of the runelords. Our best bet is a young radical or badgering thorek into it.
I could have agreed with you if he hadn't already proclaimed he would spend the rest of his life learning how a spell was runed. We would be basicaly helping him walk that path.

The spell was runed by his Elders in Good Old Days and its study therefore beyond recrimination. You can't go more conservative than attempting to replicate the feat of your ancestors.

Making a newfangled battle altar is not that.

EDIT: Thought i will note that he did help with Eye of Gazul, so he technically already did a battle altar.

Best example of how Dwarfs understand "temporary", is that "temporary camps for human mercenaries" that Dwarfs made for their allies during reconquest of Karak Eight Peaks, were made to hold 40 years
