A+ pun.The winner of each event is awarded a laurel wreath - one might say a Laurel wreath - and a sinecure in the Temple that sponsored the event, as well as being much more likely to receive enchanted weapons and armour the next time Tor Lithanel is threatened.
Now this is a proper supernatural festival. Poor Mathilde, though - she can't benefit from whatever the Phoenix is doing. The game opens with a series of mostly-rote speeches by a number of prominent figures, many of whom touch on the recent conflicts in only the most ephemeral of ways that would be easy to completely overlook if one was not attuned to how gently points are made in Eltharin, but your attention is jolted back to the event when an actual Phoenix swoops in to alight on an enormous brazier, nestling into it and setting the oil within it aflame. As it chirps and settles into place, its aura washes over the crowd, warming the air and spreading through its audience a feeling of... something, presumably. Its fiery aura circles around you, repelled by the Ulgu of your soul, and those standing nearest to you in the crowd give you a dirty look. You ignore them as you scrutinize the bird; Phoenixes of all sorts are an extremely rare sight outside of Ulthuan, and normally a sighting of them would have the Colleges rifling through their vaults to for an appropriate Scroll of Binding. That would probably be something of a faux pas in this scenario, however. You wonder if this one lives somewhere in the depths of the Laurelorn forest, or if it made the trip all the way from Ulthuan to, aha, 'carry the torch' for Asuryan.
I wonder how much time Kadoh has spent improving his pugilism alongside Johann...[Round 2, Kadoh vs Oriouloc: 96 vs 26.]
Oriouloc reaches the edge of the arena and manages to get his hands on his chosen weapon - an intricate-looking halberd of some sort that causes a chorus of mutters to rise from the crowd - but the second he took his eyes off the approaching Kadoh to reach for the weapon, he'd accelerated forward and Oriouloc turns back to catch a fist to the face, sending him sprawling across the sand. He manages to retain his grip on the halberd for a moment, which means that Kadoh's next punch goes to Oriouloc's arm, causing a crack to ring out, mirrored by a second, much milder one as Kadoh takes the halberd and breaks it in half.
Oh it's HAPPENING happening. I wonder if she means the child will be adopted by someone else..."It might hurt your chances if a dynastic marriage isn't possible-"
"It's possible," she says. You stay silent for a moment, leaving space for elaboration that Roswita unabashedly leaves unfilled.
Does anyone wanna go to pacify Eastern Stirland with the Protector before fucking off to Nagarythe, by any chance? Make the Dammerlichtreiter ride again and strike fear in the hearts of any hidden gribblies?
Only if Luitpold passes in the near future. Given a decade or two Mandred might well manage to build sufficient support. Either way works for us.

She hasn't fired Wilhelmina. On another note, it's strange to think that Roswita could have had a far more accurate mental image of young Mathilde if she hadn't fired Wilhelmina.
thats also our fault- remember that the sigmarites were trying to puppet her when we first came back? and we killedRoswita seems more interested in the idea of being elected Emperor than I expected her to be. Those who see her as exploitable will quickly find themselves disillusioned when they find out just how wrong they are about her. I almost pity them, and I would like to see her playing the election successfully.
Mathilde setting up the table to win no matter what. If Mandred squeezes in somehow all well and good, if not shape the field so the other likely candidate also owes you for the chance.
Nah, there's also Duke of Talabecland. If anything that's the "naive" assumption about who would get it right now.And besides Roswita, the other candidate is Boris, who is the Number One Laurelorn fan in the Empire and has several reasons to like Mathilde as well. And the other other candidate is the EC of Ostermark, who is going to get in the near future a visit from Mathilde about how she can fix his Mordheim problem, so potentially an enthusiastic supporter of the Waystone Project.
It's at times like these that I truly realize how influential Mathilde is becoming / already is.
I just wanted to say I agree. Yes the Qaystone project has been an amazing success, and it's results should be spread far and wide ASAP. But imo acting like people should do it for free or completely at cost really grinds my gears. The project involved time, effort and other costs from the many talented people who spent most of their time the past few years doing this instead of the many many other pressing matters they could attend to. Wanting something for the efforts of their work from somehow who did not have to pay those costs is hardly Robber Baron levels of heartless capitalism. If Brettonia gets the same or even preffered access to waystones as the participants of the waystone project, why would anyone want to join such multinational projects in the future?
You can get the rewards without having to spend resources and the time of your experts on the risks after all
I wonder how much Araby needs it or if they really have the ambient magic levels to have an active spirit pop? Remember WoB that they're close enough to the Equator that they view Tilea up Northwards (so entirety of the Empire and Bretonnia to start) as pretty much all part of the Chaos Wastes.I meant Araby specifically. It would be fairly easy for them imho. They could do it like Hagwitches, just make a bound spirit carry the winds from one attractor to another until they got to an elven waystone. With how little in way of winds they supposedly have, could be easy.
Hey this...
GODDAMIT...snipped
Damn that reminds me of Asarnil vs the Norscan. Not as much of a disparity, but still quite severe!
Wow yeah I am struggling to think of a way to blow up Collegiate and Eonir relations faster than trying to enslave the living symbol of your primary religious ceremony Jesus. And now I want to social the phoenix. What is it's story?Phoenixes of all sorts are an extremely rare sight outside of Ulthuan, and normally a sighting of them would have the Colleges rifling through their vaults to for an appropriate Scroll of Binding. Lmao how much is Zlata suffering right now (then again 99.999999% of elves would probably never want to sleep with a human anyways)which is intriguing even before one considers that every demonstration is performed by a lithe and usually underdressed Elf in peak physical fitness
Ha, the image of these guys being the elfish equivalent of raided out bodybuilders amuses me.He's lither than Kadoh, which still means that he'd be considered muscular by human standards and is absurdly so by Elven ones
How much is the shadow roiling at the lack of curiosity indulging here. For that reason, instead of going to the time and effort of disassembling whatever trickery is afoot,
Awww, this is kinda sad. Mathilde, no one comes out of the womb fully badass, all that awkwardness made you the Cool Lady you are today and in general sometimes people really just need to be more forgiving of their past selves. You don't want to give Roswita the ability to treat the younger version of yourself with the same contempt that part of you does.
...Eike's first blooding time?I mean is there anything meaningful to even pacify at this point? No doubt there are some ghosties and ghoulies, but I don't think any of them are worth the Dammerlichtreiter coming out to play.
There are always a myriad of paths that could've been, but only ever one there was.She looks at you for a long time, and you look back. There is a possible version of this conversation where you actually speak up here, and you have a very long and awkward conversation about what her father actually did mean to you, and what he might have meant to you if things had not gone so terribly wrong at Drakenhof, and, let's be honest here, if he also had a hitherto unsuggested predilection for insecure young Wizards who had only just begun to come into their own.
I do wonder who Mathilde would spend her Great Deeds on propping up, between Mandred and Roswita?
I like both those ideas

It's Sylvania, as long as it's irradiated with Dhar, the undead will always rise up again and need to be put down. And there's gotta be a few corners of the land that the army and the Battle Wizards missed. All the smart vampires probably decided to lay low.I mean is there anything meaningful to even pacify at this point? No doubt there are some ghosties and ghoulies, but I don't think any of them are worth the Dammerlichtreiter coming out to play.
Though I don't think we can use Great Deeds that way, I'd say we support Roswita given that Mandred's still in the Not Fully An Adult stage of things. Let's give him a decade or two of getting impressive and buff and then when Roswita gets much older I'd say support any bid of his.I do wonder who Mathilde would spend her Great Deeds on propping up, between Mandred and Roswita?

Superfluous "a".
