[x] Stay single. Marry for love.
[x] Stay out of it.

Mathilde can't marry Anton.

Mathilde is a Grey Wizard and so she uses the same magical arts that are taught by the elves. It's well known that the most powerful elvish wizards are the Saphics of the kingdom of Saphery.

Therefore if we want Mathilde to become the most powerful wizard that she possibly can then she can't marry a man.
The most powerful Elvish wizard.

However, if she were to turn to a certain kind of magic that isn't endorsed by elves but was used by a certain human, then she'd be free to marry all the men she wants!

In theory yes, but as Mathilde has become very familiar with, in practice there's not enough hours in the day and better an alright staff now than a perfect staff whenever you manage to find the time to learn woodcarving.
Can we spend favor or cash to get a staff? What I'm getting is that there are people with the skill but not the inclination to pursue staff-making and I'm wondering if we can convince those people to make an exception if we made it worth thier while.

Also, will we ever get called on to do someone a favor?
The Karak Dum expedition is set to begin around 2485, and will be setting off from Karak Kadrin.
A couple years down the line then. Definitely something to look at for both diplomatic and personal reasons.

 Op's Asking if it's different
I mean theres no reason for the rules to be different.

If Mathilde was Steward she's fine to ride out to poke magical curios if she wants, the runesmith is likely focused on studying dwarf rune works or organizing producing runic tools. The skythane is making warmachines.

She'd equally be fine to ride along on expeditions hunting greenskins and skaven any time she wants. They won't refuse or expect the help.

She can lean on the leader of the Umdungi to get things done, but thats probably stepping on a few toes. Helping the EIC with their paperwork is fine though

This is part of why I dislike court wizard as an option. We are already planning to do a ton of research, so adding court wizard doesn't really feel like it adds anything.

(The other part being the lack of a goal to work towards)

If anyone wants to stop the Second Coming of Nagash from marrying whoever she wants*, I welcome them to try!

*And who wants to marry her, that's also important
Good luck to your hypothetical Mathilde indulging in necromancy while wearing the Belt of Seriously Fuck Dhar.

Kragg's belt isn't just a magnanimous gift, it's a kill switch in case Mathilde ever becomes unworthy of it.

Why wouldn't we want to make the stuff we do in our free time an official job? May not 'add' anything but it certainly would free up some action slots.

To me, the point of taking a position is to provide a plot to follow while we do our research. I see no benefit to taking court wizard over no position at all. The only difference is that we HAVE to help Belegar deal with stuff that comes up, but I think we would all vote to do that anyway.

Necromancy does not involve directly wielding Dhar. Mathilde's reasons to stay away from it are purely of the common sense and sanity variety not any sort of metaphysical restriction.

Also there's a GM confirmation that the belt allows one to 'hug a daemon, juggle warpstone and wield Dhar' with no danger of (metaphysical) corruption.

Belegars gonna be the one picking our job actions remeber. No job also won't sit at the council table, a whole swathe of that type of chapter is poof. With no job the Grey Order will start poking us to actually do something for the good of the empire.

[X] Stay single. Marry for love.
[X] Steward

Changing to marry for love since marry me doesn't seem likely to win.

Still wish that Steward was winning cause while a few people have mentioned that the freedom is a huge plus I personally feel it's too free. Cause like what would we even do on a normal turn and suggest in council meetings? The only idea I have is vaguely investigating waystones.

I'll do a quick vote now (still like 20+ pages behind) to get opinion out and because I need to be AFK for a bit.

Incidentally @BoneyM, in the future could I request more approval voting, or whatever the ranked one is called?
In choices such as these and Favour spending, I think the more fine-grained choices of If-Else-If allows the greatest fidelity in selecting what people want.

[X] Marry them...
- [X] Reinhild Gerber
- [X] Wilhelmina.
[X] Stay single. Marry for love.

Is there an option to help him look for his own choice? Otherwise Wilhelmina first as a loyal to him and us choice (option to suggest he may select a discreet and vetted mistress for love/affection? Doubt W would mind), then Reinhild for being least likely to have manipulative skills/family/supporters and sharing an interest.

[X] Steward

Steward first, like woah, because we can expand the EIC administration, maybe sell some of our shares to Belegar and/or the other Steward options and use them to cut down actions we need to spend while also MAXIMISING ECONOMY - and then have plenty of personal actions for economy if needed but much more likely any research/intrigue we want, giving us the best of Learning and Intrigue.
Plus it means that Learning and Intrigue will get dwarven actions spent on them without us requiring to spend any, effectively givings us FREE BONUS ACTIONS.

Internal Ranger second, as that's the second most important and our best ability, and will keep us abreast of magic finds even faster than Learning adviser.

Boney has allowed approval voting a for a while now, so I don't see how it could be any moreso.

The job of court wizard is to investigate weird things, if we have no position we can still just ask him about weird things regularly.

Also, if we spend so long idly researching things and nothing else that the Order starts poking us, then we should be moving on IMO. Being immune to that is a negative.
