Just looking for clarification- doffing a hat means to raise or adjust it in greeting.

I think Sofia would take it as a threat (drawing special attention to the Witch Hunter hat)

Is this your intention?
More so to remove her hat then to tip it, but doff hat seems like it'll have some unintentional meaning so I'll use remove instead.

[x] Plan K8P Is Special
- [x] Introduce self as Panoramia's romantic partner
- [x] Explain that Karak Eight Peaks has been a good place for wizards who, for one reason or another, were uncomfortable in Altdorf to develop their unique talents and interests, Mathilde included

[X] "It'll be nice having another Jade Wizard around, so maybe I can stop weeding my garden with hellfire."

Refuge in absurdity.

Super Serious Introduction is fine, but I feel a bit of lighthearted weirdness is worth tossing out there too. Especially for a favourite wizard of Ranald.

I'm trying to think of things we might want to spend any spare CF we get and I'm having trouble coming up with ideas. We could hire a wizard to do stuff for us, but what do we want done that we don't want to do ourselves? We're full up on all the magic items we could want. There aren't any animals we particularly want.

I've come up with some ideas, but it's not much.
-Special powder/ammo for our guns from the Golds/Brights, but it's questionable whether they have the ability to make that, and maybe kinda fiddly for the GM to manage even if they could.
-Chuck a wizard lord or two at the Silver Road.
-Commission a staff for Eike. IIRC a staff is acceptable to begin journeying with, and this way it absolves Boney of having to write another turning scene, which he's expressed aversion to. CF could be spent acquiring extra good materials for it.
-A grimoire with some spells in it, also for Eike's journeying. Entirely standard thing to give to new journeywomen, if the career trappings in 2e and 4e are anything to go by.
-Hire a pack of journeyman Greys to investigate the political situation in Middenland and Nordland.

[X] Plan K8P Is Special

I kind of want to chat in the mountain penthouse, to see how she reacts to the sight of Alkharad's head + his old dragon skull that got turned into a chair, but it seems like she's too on edge right now.

I am excited that we can do the Windfall paper with Egrimm as a Tower of Serenity action, I will need to change some of my prospective plans. I am also excited that the thread seems interested in Windherding again. For now, voting:

I am surprised there are so few distinct votes, though, as well as so few votes in general; it's been open two and a half hours and we only have 21 voters.
It's an entirely open ended vote coming off of a moratorium that was thrown at the reader base without a shred of pre-getting-into-this-situation preparation* (and I think it's the first time we've had to do something like it in DL? It's a lot more common in other quests, but not this one, I think).

That's not a sin, but it does sort of hit the three key areas for participation: It maximizes the potential choices we could make when more people vote the fewer choices there are, it minimizes the voter's understanding of what each vote will result in when more people vote the clearer they are about the consequences, and there was a moratorium so pretty much everybody with an 'off the cuff' response kind of hit that wall and lost interest.

Again, it's not a sin or anything. Plenty of quests desire and receive this level of participation. But, it does sort of go against the environmental factors that tend to cause DL's other votes to have such big numbers.

*Preparatory desire might be a better word for it? Sort of like how we know what Apparation we want and what we want the Apparation to look like and do when we're done binding it; if there was a generic 'grab an apparation and turn it into an attack dog' vote being discussed it would be way less attractive because there are tons of options and results, but the Rider in Red to Nazgul Summon is a specific and very attractive idea that the thread can expand on.

Similarly, if we knew it'd be an exact word vote before it came up I don't think Sofia would have won, because we have nothing that the thread fantasizes about saying to her. What we're wrestling with now is basically just trying to survive the sequence without fumbling a quick time event.

Awesome. OK then, I think I now support delaying the AV book by one turn: assuming we finish AV on T43 (either by doing liminal realms T42 and orbs T43 or by doing both on T43), we can do Windfall this coming turn, AV part 1 on T43, and AV part 2 on T44. That way we don't start the book until after we've done all the research, which means there's no risk we need to go back and rewrite it, which some people were worried about.
I would prefer to finish the book on the same turn we finish the research, but I suppose that would necessitate either using Max or spending a personal AP on it, both of which are a bit unappealing.

Regardless, I'd be fine delaying the Liminal Realm to T43 - it would mean that we wouldn't need to fight over putting the Gambler on that or on capturing an Apparition on T42. It would also mean having another action to play with - possibly we could go on patrol with King Kazador and finish up our Scouting up to Basic alongside Eike.

…what are the voting proposals? If we don't have time to go through the last 20 pages looking for the plans.
The plans themselves are in a state of perpetual flux, but these are the actions I'd consider to have enough momentum to consider pretty nailed down:
  • Waystone: Foundation. It's the last thing needed before putting together a working prototype. Possibly we could put everyone on this, or possibly just most of our Team A (Hatalath, Sarvoi, Thorek, Elrisse).
  • JOHANN: Hunt an apparition (Rider in Red): People have been really pushing to start on our Apparition spell, and there's some truth to the matter.
  • MAX: Study an artefact (Books and rubbings from an Asur explorer of Lustria and the Southlands). A good action to do with Max and Eike both, this has been on the backburner for a while.
  • Write a paper (Observations on the Windfall north of the Dark Lands). Now that we know we can do this with the Serenity room, this is probably an action with that instead of with WEB-MAT.
  • EIC: Negotiate and plan a magical route through the Schadensumpf to allow for easier trade with the Eonir without compromising their defenses. Having finished RoW, this one feels like a natural.
  • KAU: Begin copying the full corpus of a Partner Library (???). There's some controversy as to which library to copy from, but it would be best to get started on them, honestly.
  • Eike Actions: Lustrian books study, EIC action. These all feel like natural things for Eike to come alongside. Possibly she could be included in more depending on individual plan variations.

That leaves us with...
-Two personal actions that will probably be main point of controversy for individual plans and their variations. Strong contenders include doing the Liminal Realm action and trying to spread our Tributaries to Kislev (with Team B - Tochter, Zlata, Niedzwenka, Cadaeth and Aksel). Other possibilities: training Eike on something, or receiving training alongside her (such as going on patrol with Kazador). Really long shot that I would be an absolute sucker for: Studying the Ghyran Nut alongside Panoramia.
-One WEB-MAT action, which could be any number of things such as Mapping more of the network with Johann, Windherding with Egrimm, trying to study the Kurgan weapons or shrine to Mannsleib, writing lots of coin papers, or even trying to somehow modify or enchant the Gyrocarriage.
-Whatever we would want Eike to study independently will probably vary from plan to plan.

I might be mistaken, but I'm fairly certain that Alliterate was asking about proposals for the vote on what to say to Sofia.
Oh, if that's the case I'm a bit embarrassed. In that case...

The following three plans are in the lead, respectively with 16, 14 and 8 votes each.

[] Plan K8P Is Special
-[] Introduce self as Panoramia's romantic partner
-[] Explain that Karak Eight Peaks has been a good place for wizards who, for one reason or another, were uncomfortable in Altdorf to develop their unique talents and interests, Mathilde included

[] Plan Redshirt v1
-[] Introduce yourself as Panoramia's romantic partner, and mention that between WEB-MAT and Panoramia, you'll be coming in and out of K8P pretty regularly. You're pleased to meet Panoramia's apprentice.
-[] Explain that Karak Eight Peaks is generally very welcoming of wizards and has been a good place for a lot of wizards who didn't "fit in" in the Empire to get a fresh start. You hope that Sofia can benefit from that as well.
--[] Ask if Panoramia has given her the overview of the facilities yet - if she hasn't, run her down the basics the same you did for the ducklings - where the labs are, where the practice range is, how to access the library, etc.
---[] Include your own recommendations on the best shops and restaurants in Karag Nar and the Valley.
--[] Just as it was for the other wizards who came to Karak Eight Peaks, your door is open if she wants information or advice from you.

[] Plan Friendly Welcome
-[] Welcome Sofia to the Karak Eight Peaks Wizarding community
-[] Tell her she'd welcome to come ask questions and peruse the library (pending Panoramia's approval for any magical subjects)
-[] Emphasise that whatever troubles she's had in the past, this is an opportunity to leave them in the past with a mostly fresh slate

The EIC action is obvious, and the Lustrian book study is within her skills, but what's the envisioned contribution for the windfall paper?
Oh, sorry, I copy-pasted that from an earlier plan draft I have. She probably can't contribute much given that she wasn't there and her experiences with Dhar should be really limited, so I'll just edit that out.

I have been including Eike on the windfall paper in my plans because I am hoping that the discussion on the observations of the winds with different types of windsight helps Eike better understand her intuitive windsight. I also want to see her and Egrimms interaction, which will let us know if we want him to work with her on teaching enchanting:
I'm not sure if I've asked before, so I'll do so now: would Egrimm be willing to help co-teach Eike on Enchanting in general as a WEB-MAT action?
It would either go very well or very badly. Mathilde's read on him is that if he sees Eike as worth the effort he'll give it his all, but if he doesn't it'll rankle him.

[X] Plan Friendly Welcome
I also like the other two plans that are in the lead right now, but this one is just perfect. Welcoming her to Eight Peaks instead of emphasizing our relationship to Panoramia frames the meeting better, and the fresh slate is more applicable to both Mathilde and Sofia than trouble in Altdorf.

Edit: Approval voting Redshirt for now.

I've seen a wolf in person, they really aren't all that big. The average wolf is, like, 70-100 lbs depending on gender and how big a wolf we're talking. That picture is probably legit, but it's due to huskies being smaller than you're probably thinking (they average around 35-60 lbs) not wolves being bigger. For comparison, wolves are about the size of a doberman (who also average around 70-100 lbs).

Now, Wolf specifically, IIRC is much larger than an ordinary wolf and introducing him should likely be done carefully...but actual wolves aren't all that big.
It might depend on the specific wolf, and the breed, but some of them are pretty huge
I've only seen one in person up close once, and it was a long while ago so maybe my memory is playing tricks on me
But when it reared up on two legs it was taller than I was then, and would be a similar height to me now, maybe a bit shorter
And I'm not a short person, around 6'2 to 6'3

Mathilde mused once that Wolf could kill a full grown man by the time he was 1
I don't think she was exaggerating
