@Boney

Aside from the sheer meme value, is there any added practical value as far as Mathilde knows to her using her knowledge of all things WAAAGH! to create a "summon greenskins" version of the Apparition spellframe?
That's the thread's job to evaluate.

Well in that case I would like to point out to the thread that such a spell might very well be useful as a tool for highjacking WAAAGH!!!'s into a preferred target, the apparition will be the big scary "purple ork warboss", and Mathilde will be the warboss's chief advisor and goblin shaman disguised with a mix of Ulgu illusion magic and the Deceiver face of Ranald's coin.

With this Mathilde as her identity as the purple warboss will be able to take command over various WAAAGH!!!'s and smash them into a target of her choosing like the chaos dwarfs for instance.

And because she's still a very sneaky grey wizard, it shouldn't be too hard for her to sneak and run away to WAAAGH!!! another day whenever her current WAAAGH!!! gets destroyed.

What's more, with the way Ork WAAAGH!!! energy works, as the legend of the purple ork warboss increases among the greenskins, Mathilde's Ork shaped apparition should in theory increase in power as well just like how Commisar Yarrick in 40k became that much of more of a badass due to the Orks believing him to be as such.

Which in theory should leave Mathilde with a hilariously scary Ork Warboss apparition to attack people with.

Also there's to my knowledge nothing except AP expenditure stopping us from using both the Purple Ork Warboss idea AND the Ulgu Nazgul idea.

My point was they did not host it because they wanted tributaries, they solved that problem when they drove the woodsmen out with fire and sword, they would like better tributaries but I do not think they are politically invested in who gets them first, on a scale of months yet to have much of an impact.

I'm reminded it apparently would have taken years (Decades?) for anyone else to have approached us about joining up if we hadn't gone to them first because we aren't on the invite list to their parties where all the deals were made, and that's how long it would have taken them to change their approach. Which really shows the kind of urgency and timescales they operate on.

Hilariously, even if there was some surge in support for kicking us out, the deal-making to get enough of them on the same page to execute it would probably last longer than the remaining length of the project.

I just thought of a way to combine or enchanting, wind-herder, Waaagh bane and waystone research into an amazing enchantment.

What if we enchanted tributaries that were super conductive to Waaagh energy? Make it so whenever a Waaagh so much as approaches a Kragg (or other waystone) they just lost all motivation as the Waaagh drained away?

We can even test the theory really easily if black Kragg is still sending their regular attacks.
This is a really cool idea, but even if it's possible to get Waaagh energy to flow along leylines without causing trouble elsewhere, it might be complicated by the fact it's partially divine. It'd be asking for Gork and Mork to notice and/or subvert the network.

The only Elf not directly serving the queen is Sarvoi, who serves his house, and if you remember our social action with him, we could have asked for concessions from them cause they so badly wanted to be part of the project, they just bamboozled us with aloofness.
No, they're isolationist. They just felt that as the first House we approached it would look really bad if they didn't accept, and concealed that fact to avoid us demanding a better deal.

Codex created a great info post about the various houses.

House Tindomiel: Sapherian Hekarti worshippers. Magic House, in favor of contact with the outside world and don't look down on humans. Unlike the Druchii, the Eonir don't look very positively on the use of Dark Magic and maintain a more balanced view on the worship of Hekarti, and they do not recommend appeasing both Hekarti and Atharti like the Sorceresses of Ghrond.

It was the opposite- they're the only House suitable to making Waystones that isn't Isolationist, so they strongly needed to make a deal with us for the sake of the Outreach block.

Ok, so two not so serious questions:
1. How often does Eike steal Wolf from Mathilde?
2. If Magisters vigilant are invite only, who made the first ones? Teclis? Volans? I get the christian bishops vibe what with claiming unbroken line of decent from St Peter.

Boy the thread popped off while I was sleeping. Good times. Here are a few of my scattered thoughts on topics of discussion that came up over the last fifteen-odd pages since last I showed up, insofar as anyone cares what I think:
  • I like the idea of doing liminal realms with a good pair of running shoes and writing half the book next turn, then finishing it with Orbs and the second half the turn after. As @mathymancer said, I don't expect what happens with Orbs to require us to go back and substantially revise content we've already written, but if it does happen and we roll like shit, it seems likely (based on what happened with Thaumomycology) that we'd be able to take a third action to revise the book for quality. And I do love getting to pull the same trick on Algard a second time of "here are multiple wildly impressive things I timed for simultaneous release, ain't I a stinker?" Greys, after all, are mystics and showmen.
  • I do support Apparitions next turn, but I'd like to see more discussion on which Apparition, because it matters a lot. @Parabola made a fantastic comparison post a while back (though for completeness' sake Rotwyrms should probably also get consideration), but the thread attention has moved on. Currently I'm leaning towards Red Riders, but I'm open to persuasion.
  • I love @BeepSmile's idea of specifying that Egrimm is primary author on the Windfall paper and we should totally do that now that Boney has confirmed we can.
  • As much as I really want to hit up Bugman's with Thorek next turn, I think starting a round of tributary rollouts in Kislev would also be a good thing, and we can't do both without either dropping WEB-MAT actions or dropping AV, so I'm very conflicted (though there's something to the idea of then taking T43 to spend 3 actions on AV -- realms, orbs, and one paper-writing action to pair with the Room of Serenity).
  • For Eike's personal study next turn, I think finishing Petty Magics and then overflowing into Lessers with the time she has left is a good action, and then on the turn after that we can pull her off magic study for a while and train other skills. We've got her for ~12 more turns, assuming a total ten-year apprenticeship (with some wiggle room based on the fact that she was a Junior Apprentice for like two and three-quarters years rather than a solid three), so we have plenty of time to go back and teach more Lessers and Relatively Simples.
  • I will fight for having Eike on Lustrian rubbings if we do them, because it's not just an action where she's tagging along and being wide-eyed and adorable, but one where she can actually contribute. The skills required to work on the Lustrian rubbings are a knowledge of Eltharin, the ability to copy text and drawings, and attention to detail: the fact that she's an Apprentice doesn't handicap her in the least. I think it is important that her Apprenticeship contain not just "Mathilde styles on losers and Eike watches from the sidelines" but "Eike gains experience in actually doing the work of a Grey Wizard." We did some of that this past turn with the trade route, so let's do more of it with research.
  • For our library action next turn, I agree with the people who want us to start copying the University of Nuln corpus. I will add that I think this is a multi-turn action that will chug in the background (like the Tributaries we started this turn), so soonest begun is soonest done: we've got a bunch of scribes, but it's the second-largest library in the Empire behind the University of Altdorf and our scribes are inexperienced. So I figure we start them copying this library, and then next turn we negotiate with Karak Vlag or something, and so on until our scribes are available for a new round of CTRL C CTRL V.
  • For our purchase round after the social actions are done, I strongly support Backfill: Social Sciences. We've got a lot of partially-complete categories in there, and we get a fuckton of books with Backfill. There's no topic we urgently need for our actions next turn, just a bunch of stuff we're kind of hoping to get background on for general usefulness (like Druchii and Ulthuan), and my hope for the Backfill is that we get those categories close to being done, whereupon during T42's purchase round we can buy the last ones we're missing with money. (I will add that the Social Sciences category contains the very useful Enemies of Man topics, and more stuff about gribblies is always useful to have before the gribblies show up and we suddenly have an urgent need to know details.)

I'd just really like to get her set with the basics of enchantment before we do another Windherder action so that she can be included and get something out of it.

With a simple enough enchantment she might even be involved.

[ ] Plan Spreading Goodwill V3
-[ ] JOHANN: Hunt an apparition (Rider in Red)
--[ ] COIN: The Gambler
-[ ] MAX: Study an artefact (Lustrian Rubbings)
-[ ] EGRIMM: Write a paper (Observations on the Windfall north of the Dark Lands)
-[ ] Waystone: Foundation (Elrisse, Tochter, Hatalath, Cadaeth, Sarvoi, Thorek)
-[ ] Waystone: Other Networks (Karaz Ankor) (Thorek)
-[ ] Tributary: International (Kislev) (Zlata, Niedzwenka, Aksel, Tochter)
-[ ] EIC: Negotiate and plan a magical route through the Schadensumpf to allow for easier trade with the Eonir without compromising their defenses
-[ ] KAU: Begin copying the full corpus of a Partner Library (Grand University of Nuln)
-[ ] SERENITY: Coins of Nehekhara's Fourth Dynasty 1/2
-[ ] Eike Actions: Windfall paper, Waystone Foundation, EIC Action
-[ ] Eike Study: Magic (Sounds, then Bless Weapon, then whatever lesser spell makes sense)

Changes
  1. I went with Tochter on the reasoning that the forest-spirit-elf would find it hard to travel that far and probably not enjoy the ambiance
  2. Serenity action is now the fourth Dynasty which is not optimal in terms of college favor, but is chronological
My reactions:
  • I would prefer Cadaeth over Tochter going to Kislev. She is basically Laurelorn's foreign ambassador, and I think I would enjoy seeing her reaction to Kislev more than Tochter's.
  • If we are going to do coins, I would prefer to just do Fifth Dynasty for now and not have a half done paper lying around indefinitely. Alternatively, we can probably start on a Branarhune book next turn.
  • I had Eike studying Intrigue, because I want to give her a break from memorizing spells, and I want to do something different with her instead of more rolling to see how well she does. She doesn't need more magic ASAP, and I want to round out her education, and our understanding of her. I really like @mathymancer's idea to have her Red Team against the Hochlander and the EIC. It is similar to how Regimand had us practice Intrigue, it helps her connect with the Hochlander and the EIC spy network, and it helps make the EIC better.
Overall, I think this a good 3 Waystone action variation of my plan, and I may vote for it, but I still want Liminal Realm research more than a third Waystone action.

  • I do not think the almost dryad would enjoy the land of no trees, but I am not that invested in it
  • That was my first idea so whichever works
  • The thing about memorizing spells is... that is the thing that can keep her alive. We have just sent her on her own for a rather long length of time. Granted it was not a romp though Sylvania, but Morslieb is a thing worldwise, malicious fey and ghosts are a thing. Without Bless weapon if she meets one of those on her own she is straight up dead nine times out of ten, with the tenth time being able to scare them with magic dart.

Hunh. Important question for Boney at such time as you have bandwidth: is Enchanting an Eike Study action that we'd expect her to be able to make independent headway on? I was kind of assuming that one would require actual AP to spend teaching her, since my impression was that Petty Spell actions have been primarily self-study from scrolls as opposed to directed teaching. If not, then yeah, let's get her started on the basics.

Absolutely.
  • Leading greenskins TOWARDS enemies
  • Leading greenskins AWAY from allies
  • Leading greenskins into killboxes
  • If she can figure out how to aspect the spell towards Cunning or Brutality, being able to target the clever parts or dumbest parts of an ork army first

Don't greenskins instinctively distrust imposter greenskins, due to the lack of Waaagh field? Or is that just 40k?

There's an extension of the Forest of Shadows in the far south and another forest along the east running alongside the Worlds Edge Mountains.

Certainly less forested than anywhere in the Empire.
... That's because the empire is so full of forest it should have called itself the woodhuman empire and see what the woodelves thought about that.
