Completely unrelated question, but I started the quest with the understanding that Rat Catchers caught Skaven, but if the general Empire is unaware of the existence of the filthy ratmen in the first place, what's the point of the Rat Catchers? Or are the Rat Catchers clued into the existence of the Skaven?

Yes. there is any number of beasts that might lurk in the sewer system of the big cities, and general public doesn't think much of it. Honestly, even just hunting normal rats sounds reasonable if you ask me. the fact that they hunt the larger sort of prey is besides the point :V

Most rat-catcher will probably never see a skaven and if they do they might think it's a weird beastmen. But there are some who do know of the existence of the under empire.

Edit: merging
Actually now that I'm thinking about the silk again. If we actually get it we probably want to make new robes and if we do new robes is there anything we'd want windherded on it? I don't know the spell lists so well so i don't know if there is a particular spell we'd want.

The Amethyst spell "Ward Against Abomination" maybe? Prevents Undead from being able to approach you (although intelligent and high level undead can attempt to resist it). Could be useful if we plan to 1v100 a bunch of skeletons again.

I think that's a bit narrow. Something that works in general would be better. But still, it depends on what we want. There's more assistance in one-on-ones with tough opponents, AoE crowd control against hordes, stuns to buy Mathilde time to teleport out of a bad situation, focusing on anti-melee or anti-ranged more, or something else. Right now Guard of Steel/Radiant Sentinel seem the most generalist to me, but someone else may have better ideas.

Right now we are a bit lacking in crowd control i feel. We do have options but they feel inadequate.

Uhhh, i accidentally double posted... Do i try to merge them?

I guess Wind Blast and Icy Grip of Death might work, at least without getting into the Battle Magic section or the overpowered Fiendishly Complex spells with the whole "wizards in a miles-wide radius can feel this spell being cast and you will be in big trouble if you cast it without a good reason" thing attached.

On a slight tangent, @Boney does Speed of Light also have the brainmeat problem like Birona's Timewarp does?

There's other options that might be good for crowd control, but we'd need to get Ice Witch favor somehow...

This is your daily reminder that real rats get BIG. As in 20 to 30 pounds big. Oh, and unlike say a rabbit, a rat isnt an idiot. It is a very smart animal
able to solve traps to get at the goodies inside and other annoying tricks. It is also a predator of its own that will hunt smaller animals if it chooses to. Thats a real rat and that is what a rat catcher is usually up against. They are as much small game hunters as they are rat exterminators.

Don't ask why every so often Imperial Armies and County Armies suddenly have their entire resume include rat catcher duty. At the same time. Its called public works. Keeping cities healthy by hunting down the rats in force. Obviously. OBVIOUSLY.

She's already doing the female dwarf version of that, given how she's continued to grow her hair and braided it in the typical dwarven style.
I was so disappointed when we got an Arcane Mark the very turn after Belegar teased us about acting like a longbeard and it wasn't the one that makes our hair grey. It would have been such a dwarf flex.

On the plus side, this just means Mathilde will have that much more opportunity to grow far too wise before she nets that arcane mark for real. :V

S tier: Kadoh, Deathfang, Cython
A tier: Mathilde, Johann, Asarnil, practically every dwarf ever
B tier: Max, Hubert, Pan, Eike
C tier: Roswita, Anton, Adela
D tier: Heidi, Gretel, Egrimm, most elves
F tier: Teclis

I will not stand for this Teclis-Sempai slander. :anger:

Teclis-Sempai is absolutely ripped beneath all those alluringly figure-concealing robes he wears. How else would he carry the giant balls of gromril that it takes to march off into the Great War Against Chaos with just a pair of companions and no official support from Ulthuan, or to face off in a magical duel against Malekith and chase him away from Vaul's Anvil?

A potion of some kind, presumably.

Yeah, he belongs in T tier.

Because F tier is too good for Teclis of the Noodlely Armed.

Imagine if we were a male wizard. We would have grown the biggest, bushiest beard we could just to fit into the dwarf community.
Dang nabbit we could have been Merlin-like.

Do you think if we get it long enough we can use it in combat?
Like make a spell that allows her to animate her hair, making it prehensile by controlling the shadows the hair creates with in the braids?

IIRC Boney has said that it'd be doable to Windherd something on top of enchanting our mastery of Aethyric Armor, but it'd be extra hard, adding difficulty on an already hard enchantment. Aethyric Armor grants more armor the more Magic the caster has, so the enchantment already has to be stronger and more difficult than it would have been back when Mathilde was a Journeywoman.

Here's some possible spells to Windherd with our Aethyric Armor, if we do decide something of the sort when the time comes:
  • (Hysh) Radiant Sentinel: You summon a head-sized ball of light that follows you around and can parry melee attacks independently. Lasts several minutes.
  • (Ghyran) Leaf Fall: You summon a swirling vortex of leaves around you which makes it harder to hit you in ranged combat - but more than Guard of Steel does for either melee or ranged attacks. Lasts several minutes.
  • (Ghur) The Boar's Hide: Makes critical hits less damaging if they land on you, though as a downside it makes you slightly less agile. Lasts several minutes.
  • (Chamon) Guard of Steel: You summon a few floating balls of steel that make it a bit harder for people to hit you whether with melee or ranged attacks. Lasts a single minute. Less difficult than the others on this list.
These are all protective spells of some sort, so they may fit well alongside Aethyric Armor.

If we don't end up deciding to Windherd it at all, we could probably try enchanting it with something else from Ulgu or with Lesser/Petty spells for general utility. It'd be far simpler, and if we use a power stone on the robes again, it'd probably be more efficient - Mathilde noted that for these robes, she didn't feel like she was using the power stone to its full potential.
