Thank goodness that would have been bad
Why precisely would it have been bad to tell the count that his martial did super shady stuff that makes him untrustworthy for his position?
I agree with the king, finding out this stuff is our job as spymaster. We're being derelict in our duties.
Can we do that as a free option this turn? It shouldn't exactly take a whole action to have a quick 5 minute conversation with the dude or write it down on a piece of paper and pass it to him.Someone suggested including the information in an 'eyes only' report for Van Hal, but it didn't win the vote.
That would be me. It didn't get anywhere because I also wanted to come clean about our own situation.Someone suggested including the information in an 'eyes only' report for Van Hal, but it didn't win the vote.

This is Warhammer, our life sort of depends on the martial advisor doing the best job possible and not being corrupt.
Because you are possibly revealing the Emperor's spymaster agent and he would be rightly peeved if some no named wizard just fucked his information gathering I don't know about you but I would rather not make an enemy with the Emporer's spymaster in the first turnI agree with the king, finding out this stuff is our job as spymaster. Sure, it'd be a free action. I didn't bother writing up an option for it because the vote for it had just failed.
Please specify exactly what information you're giving him, though. Just the Professor's background, or how it tied into his appointment as well? And will you throw in what you know about the Chaplain and the Architect's appointments?

Lucrezio's history of embezzlement is something Van Hal should know, but without adding who appointed Lucrezio I don't see him remaining employed. Van Hal probably knows that almost all of the councilors were appointed for him (I doubt he's that stupid), but he may not know by who, and we really don't need to give the Emperor's spymaster a reason to look too closely at us.
I'm not sure what to do.
Italics original. Most of your report is laying down what you know of the former Spymaster, Wilhelm von Tarshof, and his activities. You start with his personal control over the cities of the Old Dwarf Road and his neglect of the rest of Stirland, before moving on to the Stirlandian League cartel and their monopoly on north-south trade. At this point Van Hal looks displeased; when you mention the murder of the Baron of Purgg and his family, he looks outraged.
"Wilhelmina, will you be able to do without those archives?"
[Short answer: No]
"Then that will be our priority. Journeywoman Weber, find those documents by whatever means necessary. I'll put a platoon of Greatswords at your disposal. Get me those books."
We are not doing a crappy job since we are avoiding needless conflict with one of our allies or associates if you ratherHmm assuming the posts here represent the internal dialogue of the spymistress ...
We are doing a crappy job as spymaster cuz we are afraid of the emperor's spymaster.
Maybe the Marshal is doing a crappy job as marshal cuz he is afraid of the emperor's marshal. 'I cant let Stirland get too strong and threaten Riekland'
And the rest of the advisers the same (except Wilhelmina).
The setup blurb says that incompetence is assumed in Stirland, this could be why if this sort of thing is normal.
Sucks to be Stirland I guess
We are doing a -terrible- job, we are not telling the boss the things he needs to know, such as his marshal is a peculator. We aren't going to be able to stop him, it would take the steward to scrutinize his expenditures. We are not doing a crappy job since we are avoiding needless conflict with one of our allies or associates if you rather
Making an enemy of one the most powerful spymasters in the Empire isn't going to do us any favors in fact all will do is hinder us
There is a reason all these people are spying on this one dude and unless he is an utter moron he probably knows he is getting spyed on by some of his advisors us being a blabber mouth draws needless attention and problems to us problems we don't need
If we see the marshal doing something he is not supposed to do like steal money from his funds then we can tell Van Hal but we shouldn't tell him who the marshel actually works for
"So my Lord, someone is controlling me through the grey college on threat of me being declared a rogue wizard and eliminated by the witch hunters. I figured I should at least let you know that I'm going to be doing some fuck shit on the side, but I'm trying to not let it get in the way of this job."
Please hold off on mini-vote people, Boney is going to put it into a formal vote next turn.[X] Free Action: Give our new boss all the info that we have gathered on every advisor except for ourself and Wilhelmina. Leave nothing out.
