He'd still be the EC of Reikland, though.

He might be the EC of Reikland... or maybe not. Wizards are hated and feared. Things could go very bad.

Assuming he doesn't die or get maimed with Marks in training in a way that would make him incapable of ruling, which is a very real possibility.

Ranald is far more risky, @Boney confirmed it. The nobles of Reikland will at least be able to bear a wizard heir, a secret Ranaldite heir on the other hand would likely face rebellion and death if found out. By contrast Nullify is something Mathilde would think of as crippling the kid since she thinks magic is a blessing.

Fair enough, I'll edit out the Ranald vote.

Why would you do that to him? What justifies that? Small increase in personal power will not overcome huge decrease in political power.
Because if anyone finds out that he is anointed of Ranald he might lose the right to be Grand prince of Reikwald.

Wizard is if anything the safer choice.

Sure, he will most likely not become an emperor after Luitpold dies, but there are other very good candidates.

Wow, everyone going for "Wizard" but I'm not sure you're all quite understanding the incredible gamble you're taking for no real reason that I can see.

1. "Wizard" turns Mandred from firm heir to more-likely-than-not will never be Emperor.
2. Imagine the ugly political fight over which College gets him. Could get real, real bad.
3. Even if he does become Emperor, rule will forever after be undermined. More likely overthrown, more likely assassinated.

[X] Nullify

[X] Ranald
1. As has been stated in the update itself, even Wizard Elector Count is a step in the right direction. Mandred may never become emperor once he becomes a Wizard, but it at least opens the way down the line to go in that direction.
2. The ugly political fight is not our problem (sadly) so who cares? If it's necessary Heidi will ask us to step in, but until then I trust the involved people to do their jobs.
3. As Boney has already stated, your point 3 applies even harder to Mandred if it's discovered he's a Ranaldite.

Aw, got Mathilde'd.

Honestly, I usually am all for the Ranald choice. And the gamble is a boon, not a drawback. But...

Dedicating someone to a god, even one I like, before they are able to make the choice themselves sits... ill with me.

[X] Wizard

Let's convert him to Ranald later, when he gets the ability to think for himself.

You've convinced me Ranaldite is a shit option and I disclaim it!

Who knows, maybe the stars have aligned and Mandred has the potential to be the next Fozzrick :V That could be fun.

So if we go wizard is Mandred automatically going to be a Grey? That would be kind of a bummer
Nah, that was just me speculating. Would be one hell of a power move from the Grey college though.

I would exclude Fire and Beasts for temperament, Grey and Amethyst for image issues, and Light for the complexity of the magic, leading to very few magisters actually graduating.
Leaving Metal, Celestial and Life.
Life has the arcane mark that weakens them for part of the year, which is probably not the best idea.

The Gold college and the Celestial college are pretty neck to neck imo.

It might be Mathilde bias speaking but the Grey College is pretty good. Not that all other Colleges would be bad but Grey with a focus on diplomacy; showmanship and knowing what boundaries can be pushed and what can't seems like an excellent education for a politician.

Not really seeing any downsides to Grey College education; it isn't like the 'other wizards' will be a lot more popular.

Can't entirely discount Ranald or another College but Grey is probably the best?

[x] Wizard
[x] Ranald

Grey college is fine, until you start getting arcane marks. Forgettable and Untrusthworthy are very bad things to have on a leader.

Seeing this emotionally vulnerable side of Heidi felt quite jarring, but in a good way. It was very humanizing.

[] Nullify
This option deeply unsettles me. I'm not willing to entertain this.

[] Ranald
Better than Nullify, and while I like Ranald and trust that he'd have Mandred's back, I don't quite like the idea of dedicating a seven year old to a God. Also, I think this is the riskiest option. Being a Ranaldite Wizard is one thing, but being a Ranaldite priest is quite another. Its hard to hide being a Ranaldite when you're doing Ranaldite miracles. Not impossible, but very hard. And I think nobles will feel far more threatened by dedicated Ranaldism(particularly the Protector) than by magic.

I'm much more willing to gamble with our life than with Mandred's.

[X] Wizard
I think this option is the best for Mandred's agency and happiness. He can develop as normal, and wind up with the Wind/College that suits him best. He might not become Emperor, but I don't think anything is going to metaphorically explode.

And yeah, a Wizard Elector Count would still be fantastic.

To be fair, Greys can keep their mouth shut, so if you want to keep it (relatively) quiet, Greys are good choice
