we need to stop kicking the long term actions bucket down the road, now, not next turn or the one after that: becue that's not changing the habit, just convincing yourself that your not doing the same thing while doing the same thing...

Or we can just do the interesting things. The long term side projects are just that- the stuff that's low-percentage but high return, so it can be a nice gap filler. But I'd prefer to act in the world and build story, so I don't feel compelled to return to a 'to do' list just because it exists.

I don't mean this in a bad way (this is your priority, and its your game as much as mine) but this is the exact reasoning that keeps long term projects lasting irl years.

in a turn or two something else will come up.

the cultural actions are safe, we will pick the other one next turn if we only do one this turn. ('only' being the key word, we are doing social actions no matter the outcome. it's long term actions on the chopping block.)

While I see where you're coming from, there was an opportunity to make such long term projects Mathilde's priority not so long ago. Alas, 'Research Sabbatical' and 'Loremaster Sinecure' ended up with around ~0.5% of the votes. Our current focus should be setting up the Waystone Project and WEB-MAT with as strong a foundation as we can make, and if that delays other things, then so be it.

[x] Plan WEB-MAT & Culture
- [x] JOHANN: Have Johann spend time getting to know Kadoh, who has expressed an interest in meeting the 'fist metal-Mage'.
- [x] EGRIMM: Study an artefact: Golden Arm
- [x] MAX: Go through every library of the Colleges you can access for any scrap of information about Waystones.
- [x] Attempt to bring a Karak's Runesmiths into the Waystone Project (Karak Azul)
-- [x] COIN: The Gambler
- [x] Furnish the living spaces of the Waystone Project HQ (600gc)
- [x] Immerse yourself in the culture of the 'Cityborn' Toriour inhabitants of Tor Lithanel
- [x] Immerse yourself in the culture of the 'Forestborn' Faniour inhabitants of the woods surrounding Tor Lithanel
- [x] EIC: Have a blackpowder factory built in Wurtbad.
- [x] SERENITY: Observations of Karag Dum and its unusual guardian

That's not how it works. You can't vote for an existing plan with a specific name and then change one of the plan details, and if you look at the tally now you can see your vote is being tallied separately from all the other "WEBMAT & Culture" votes. If you want to vote for that specific spread of items, the vote that does that is "Plan WEB-MAT & Max Research".

I agree and I am sorry for screwing things up for Plan WEBMAT and Culture; @Shard, it turns out I was wrong and you should swap Max's action back.

Not going to vote for Don't Ignore Engrim, as much as it pains me, because I really do think that it's important to do both cultural immersion actions from a practical perspective: cultural immersion is what we need to learn Yen-Eltharin and start developing our Eonir Diplomacy skill, neither of which are things we can just learn from tutors. Given that we chose to get sponsored by these people, we need to put in the legwork to get to know them.
@Shard can you change your plan to have Max do the library action? Boney's clarified on what it does and it's better than what we thought.
Okay, I've returned the plan back to the original form (the library action).

e: Although this effectively makes it identical to one of the other plans already present? I'm not sure if this is something I should do as opposed to just approval voting the other plan that already has that precise spread of actions.

Moving my vote, as my little flashback snippet got a bookmark(!)
Edit: Also, I see the WEB_MAT & Culture has been reset to the original Max action... so I guess I'll go with that.

[X] Plan WEB-MAT & Culture

Hmm, wonder if it has been proposed before, but perhaps we could donate some AV to WEB-MAT. All of the following seem like they could be done with a subordinate's help :

[ ] Experiment with integrating the Vitae into enchantments.
[ ] Investigate how the Vitae reacts to a power stone.
[ ] Using the secrets you already know of the Vitae, attempt to weaponize it.

Using our brand new college branch to help us with our longstanding research queue would be logical. Would it fit with the Charter?

Also, has it been touched upon how the blackpowder factory will be financed? Do you think new shares will be emitted, a loan be taken and dividends for a while be reduced to repay it, have the shareholders pitch in, etc.? I'd love to have the choice of of big and how great we want the factory to be but on the other hand it might be too much hassle if Boney isn't into it... Considering how big spending is on the horizon there might actually be reasons not to just throw all our money into the venture (but it will still be tempting considering future returns and the beneficial effects on Stirland).

Yeah, doing a deep dive into early Renaissance corporate financing isn't something I'm that keen on for something so peripheral to what the thread has voted for the quest to focus on.

Thanks for pointing this out. I'm not sure what happened, I just meant to use the vote option; must have done something wrong. I've since edited it. Much appreciated.

So, i checked the tally, and it appears that Plan WEB-MAT & Culture and Plan WEB-MAT & Max Research are identical right now. Cam someone else confirm?

Plan WEB-MAT & Max Research was a modification of WEB-MAT & Culture, but WEB-MAT & Culture was edited to incorporate that same change:

I assume they'd be combined in the final tally if needed, but it's winning without that at the moment.

I see. Well in that case:

[x] Plan Don't Ignore Engrim

- [x] EGRIMM: Work with him using windherding to combine Dazzle and Bewilder in a spell combo.

For the top plans: are we missing a free action on them? Are they using the Overwork action?
@Shard @Hydroplatypus

Max+Johann = 1 free action for Egrimm
5 normal AP = Runesmiths, (2x) Elf immersion or AV, Furnishing, 1 leftover action? 1 overwork action?
Max and Johann take a normal AP each, so it's 5 normal AP on Max, Johann, Runesmiths, 2x Culture. 1 Free Webmat AP on Egrimm. 1 Overwork ap on furnishing.

So I've been looking over trade routes and stuff, and I remembered something. To those who are considering eventually getting the EIC to place informants in Middenland and Nordland, I regret to inform you that it is likely to not work very well. The EIC's presence is incredibly powerful in Stirland, especially Western and Southern Stirland, and has an iron grip on most of the River Aver. The EIC also dominates the Old Dwarf Road, leading from the Aver to the Stir, which gives the EIC a presence in Talabecland, which we used to get into the Cult of Karnos. What the EIC doesn't have, is significant presence in the northern provinces.

Mathilde specifically stated to Baronet Husserl that the River Stir was mostly free game to the Ostermarkers in the perspective of the EIC, since they weren't that involved in it so Ostermark could get up to their shenanigans with Talabecland without having to compete with the EIC. If one looks at the trade routes, the EIC is incredibly focused on the South, which is why it has a presence in the Moot, Barak Varr, K8P, Ulrikadrin, Averland, Nuln and Reikland. The only "northern" presence the EIC has is a very small portion in Altdorf, which borders the River Talabec which is the north of Talabecland and the south of Middenland (coincidentally, the centre of Middenland's power, Middenheim, is not next to the Talabec).

The point is, getting informants into Middenland and Nordland is not going to be much of a viable option unless the EIC expands trade northwards, and that isn't part of Wilhelmina's plans for the moment because she's focused on the canal. Expanding northwards would get us involved in the Ostermark/Talabecland trade conflict.

It's not like the AV plan doesn't do that. It still spends five actions on Waystone-related stuff. Compared to that, spending a single action on an interesting side project doesn't seem too much to ask? And it's definitely not "neglecting" our duties to the Waystone Project or anything,
