From that map, it looks like 5 towns got razed. Assuming an average population of 2500 per Town (It's a value I'm acquiring from Google Medieval town population so YMMV), then that means a total population of around 12,500. This of course assumes all 5 settlements were towns and not Villages, which have a smaller population. I would give an upper estimate of perhaps 2,500 dying and 10k making it out, but it's possibly lower.

The majority still survived, which is a far better scenario than the alternative.

I still think you are being a bit optimistic. There are also villages too small to be on the map to consider and probably a lot more of them. Someone has to grow the food for all those coastal cities.

Kelham was on the Stirland map and the population was so small they only had 1 Watchmen, and after he died they spent 6-7 years without a new watchmen. Some very small settlements are placed on the map.

Yes, though so far Laurelorn has not pressed their claims on the coastline.
See, it really helps with 'Weak Claim will be lost on Succession unless pressed in war', when you can just avoid that succession for a millennia or so. Half the time the Humans are arguing which mayfly should be ruling their agglomeration of crude stone huts anyway, which makes it very inconvenient to track where to send the declaration.

This seems to start at a good point.

'Our' house seems empty so we might buy some local furniture, utensils, stationary and injecting some hard earned gold to the local economy. Its just money.

We might get lucky and employ some reliable cook and housekeeper, again from the locals. Lets hope their just spies and not assasins.

And finaly.. some elven food and drink.

Do you think Elves have the tasty orange bug-like things on sticks?

Still, jokes aside, I expect Mathilde has developed a broader and more refined palette, eating out virtually every meal for decades and during her wide travels. She just has next to no attention to spare for what goes into making a meal.

I don't mean to say that mathy doesn't like the good stuff.

but the Dum expansion proves that she still doesn't mind the bad stuff.

So far, there hasn't been a weird food in the story that she hasn't gone 'I'll try it'

it actually would be funny if as a slight, some elves try to give her something they know empire humans don't tend to like at a party, or something traditional/cultural that no one actually likes, something like raw deer heart or something.

and instead of being grossed out or made sick from trying, she just noms noms.

[X] Plan WEB-MAT & Culture

I'm quite a ways behind, but might as well vote for my preferred option now. I might change if there are convincing arguments in the pages I'm still working through.

As a note to everyone, Boney put the map of Laurelorn overlaid over Nordland's in the Maps section of the Collection of Important Information threadmark. Very helpful for visualisation. Thank you very much Boney.

Mathilde: wait are they messing with me or do they actually expect me to eat this should I ask but what if it's rude I need them for the waystone project maybe I should just eat it and make them happy so they don't look too closely into me and realize that I'm bluffing with an empty hand oh no what do I do what do I do what do I do

Elf 1: haha look at the human melting down, 20 diamonds she panics and eats it anyways then cries

Elf 2: 30 rubies she throws up

Elf 3: 50 pearls she just gives up and leaves

Elf 4: hang on. looks like everyone's a winner.

The map of Laurelorn looks like a nation getting into attritional war for a Millennia or two and only lately realizing all the areas they had so long ago have new owners. Except its elves, so the same generation is still leading them... And as the elves, they can't afford the attrition.

Rule 3: Be Civil - A staff notice for demeaning other posters is not invitation to continue doing so.
Never once have I ever mentioned the righteousness of peasants.

It is quite unpleasant when you deign to assign additional meanings to my words to undermine my position.
Pull the other one.

It's got bells on.

English is not my first language, so I don't get what that means at all, but considering the general tone I'm getting from it, I assume it's not worth engaging?
