I'll be honest and say this update has left me feeling hollow and glum, since up till this point we had done so well and now? We are basically back where we started when this whole arc, pun intended, started.
Freddy held captive, allies dead/captured/scattered, and the odds so stacked against us it feels like a huge weight on our throat.
I honestly have no idea where we go from here at all.
@torroar the update is still great and thank you for hard work, don't take my words as discouragement, just very emotionally attached to quest so hate it when we have huge setbacks like this with no clear path forward.
They are likely to stab us as the Chaos worshippers and daemons though, and we have no clear strategy to escape either since Hul abandoned us, spirited away Gene, and left Eldrya to be taken.
Oh, and we can't use flying mounts since still under her spell too, so they are basically in a magical coma forever unless a miracle happens.
They are likely to stab us as the Chaos worshippers and daemons though, and we have no clear strategy to escape either since Hul abandoned us, spirited away Gene, and left Eldrya to be taken.
She literally cut and ran, leaving everyone willing to help her and her daughter to die, abandoning Eldrya at her place while she likely spirited away her daughter.
Oh my this is interesting indeed I would not mind honestly Fredrick dying here as long as everyone else can get after all Magnus is more then ready to rule in his place.
Of course I'll try and see if we can get him out in the end.
After reading all the update I only can say that is a fuck up situation that left more exhausted that satisfied, and if I have to wait another 6 to a year to just have one or two bad rolls to destroy everything that we work for then i am sorry, am stop watching this quest
[] Focus Purely on Biding Time, refusing combat and attacks, to try and wait for more opportune moments
---Absolutely fucking not, there is no reason to sit out major chaos. Especially when there's a serious chance of capital-C Chaos gaining control of a fucking Black Ark, of all things. If we can't meaningfully escape, we finish breaking it as much as we can.
[] Focus On Freeing Other Slaves, Combat Capable Ones
---Being able to tell apart who is and is not a trustworthy combat-capable slave is a tall order. Not an insurmountable one, given Natasha's diplomacy chops, but not my preferred option.
[] Focus On Aiding Anti-Alyssan Druchii On the Ark, though how they would react to freed slaves and otherwise is not certain to be anything positive.
---Slightly better, because at this point shit's fucked enough that salvaging something, anything from this is going to be more important than not dying like a bitch for almost all Drucchi - which gives us an opening. And if it goes sour, we can fall back on freeing slaves.
[] Focus on purely attacking Alyssan loyalists and daemons
---This one gives us the best chance of breaking Alyssa's power base and maybe rescuing Freddy. Plus, absolutely necessary at least in some way due to the Chaos-Black-Ark problem.
Do we clearly know the status of anybody not Freddy from that clusterfuck? I think Hultressa's dead.

Concerning the A/N at the end...
Quests going poorly is something of a painful prospect for me, because I don't mind quests going badly. I don't even mind characters I like dying or worse, beyond the initial gut punch.
But what sticks in my craw after quests go bad is that as a rule there's no attempt to improve after shit goes off the deep end. Everything from "it's good things failed because cool story bro" to "iT'S tHe DiCe BrO" to "we couldn't have done better, bro" to "dOn'T rElItIgAtE vOtEs BrO" and variations thereof.
And to a certain very partial extent, I can't even hold it against them because actual improvement on the part of voters requires some kind of instruction from the QM. I don't think I have ever seen a QM give meaningful feedback for what could have been done better in the wake of an update gone wrong - too much shouting that amounts to "don't rock the boat and make people feel bad".
If we fail, it should be because we gave it our best and it wasn't good enough. It's difficult to give your best, especially in a long running quest over a long period of time, when there's no meaningful debriefing after failure.
We rolled slightly above average. It's just that our poor rolls were in very bad places, which exacerbated the situation until even when we were rolling well in the end, it didn't matter, given the massive maluses.
The fucking tension I feel right now, fucking shit.
That critfail ruined me. I reread the section about Hultressa's big moment like four times trying to make sure she wasn't dead.
I think we need to be real here. Frederick is not getting rescued without Alyssa going down. There won't be a stealth mission, there won't be a sneaky escape. We're going to need to contest this factionally, we're going to need to conquer the ark.
I so fucking wish we'd invested in fomenting a slave rebellion. As it is, we're going to need to swell our numbers while Alyssa's faction and the non-chaos elements go head to head.
Obviously the elgi are jealous the dawi got so much attention in their "sidequest", obviously the elgi need a longer one.
Also, Frederick Hohenzollern decides he wants the full druchii experience before he leaves the ark and so decides to allow Alyssa to capture him. Nobody can tell me otherwise. 👀
Interesting turn of events. The auction plans were...Not utterly a bust, but certainly sub-optimal. This was always going to be the state of things for the Ark, we just never intended to actually be around for it. But the Dice are clearly stating this:
We're not leaving the Claw of Dominion behind until its a solved problem for the rest of the setting. That Ark was sent to Ostland to die...And so it shall, without a doubt.
...Well I'm glad I held off on reading anything but reactions once Fred counter attacked the arks, I can just lie to myself that it all worked out. Toroar I love your writing but putting dice rolls before narrative is still a terrible idea. It looks like I'll just leave this here and check back every couple of months in case there is a miracle and everyone escapes.
1. Make sure no one's soul gets taken somewhere to be tortured for eternity/indeterminate-long-period-of-time.
2. Get Brain Wounder back to our family
3. Help as many of our friends get out alive from this.
4. Save Freddy and Natasha's life
I've made my peace with them dying long ago and now I just want it to be over with. As long as they don't end up with their souls captured by Slannesh or something then their dying is fine to me.
At this point, for me, it's hard to care with all these constant fluctuating ups and downs and this massive crash just makes me feel numb and dissociated.
