Makes sense, I will note that Freddy needs an actual focus on the discussion topic. We can't just say "Go to the Cult of Myrmiddia and seek to inquire how they can aid Ostland". We need more details.

Actually. @torroar can we say "Go to the Cult of Myrmidia, seek to inquire how the Cult of Myrmidia can aid Ostland?"?
OR
"Go to the Cult of Myrmidia, seek to inquire how the Cult of Myrmidia can aid The Northern Trident?"?

In the Cafeteria…
*walks up in front of Myrmydia and points to table with Ostermark and Nordland*

Fred: Wanna join us at the cool kids' table?

For all that the Myrmidian's aren't doing too hot politically, I'm still not sure it would be well-responded to if someone waltzed over to them, sat down, and said 'Hey, why don't you tell me what you can do for me that would make me happy and like you more."

I know we've discussed it prior but what advantages will the armor that Alex is making for Freddy give to him?

Think ice armor like the one Natasha and other ice mages use in combat but permanent like regular armor you can take off and wear again during combat. Naturally stronger than regular steel armor and magical nature makes it resistant to magical attacks, possibly with the exception of ice magic itself. It's been made apparent that it's never gonna be some standard issue fare, due to resources, energies and time required to create, but possible for hero units or perhaps even elite troops like the Ice Wings or the best Droyaskas in Kislev. She also wants it for Urgdug iirc since Fred's status means he's more likely to get gromril armor as a gift or at least have the clearance to purchase/have one made.

Right.

I guess I would like it to be ready soon or Fred gets it before Malagor kicks things off. So we have the best set up for him before the big day.

Otherwise it will seem like it will never come due to the possible Civil War going on in Kislev.

Just a thought, but if we do end up pursuing the concept of establishing martial colleges, we could maybe spread them out across the Trident. A naval college in Nordland, and a land-based one in Ostermark perhaps? Ostland already has gunnery and engineering after all. Plus wouldn't it be easier to organize army exercises and maneuvers there as well since Ostermark has better agriculture? Logistics would be less complicated. Proximity to dwarves, Stirland and Kislev might also come into play as Ostermark would be a great hub for campaigns further inland.

Nordland getting the naval college speaks for itself. They have the senior navy and it's better than Marienburg getting it first.

Thoughts?

It's been a year since my last reread, but I believe Alexandra mentioned something about it being self-repairing.

Mmm i think i do remember something along those lines. Tho im not sure of the progress with that aspect. Would be cool tho. Organically-repairing armor would be awesome. I wonder if the elves have something like that. Maybe regrowing armor for wood elves?

[X] Let The Flame Issue Lie, Message To Emil To Tell Him To Drop It: The dangers are too much, to the Cult, to the man himself potentially. It's better to simply let the matter lie for now. Perhaps it might change in the future, but such things are uncertain. Chance of Success: 100% For Logan, For Emil ??%

[CANON] Ostland Squig Hunting - iggyfan

Ostland Squig Hunting

Though the Grand Principality of Ostland is better known for its role in the profitable troll hunting business there are many other monstrosities hunted for profit in the province. Amongst them is the squig, that ubiquitous monster of the underground. Squig hunting is a rather recent development in the province as for the vast majority of its history the region where one has the greatest odds of encountering squigs, the Middle Mountains, was almost wholly without human inhabitants due to the great danger posed by the beastmen and greenskins of the mountain range. Ever since WAAAGH!!! Gorbash slew the majority of the Middle Mountain's beastmen and left the region with nearly every orc and goblin that lived in it in tow, the province of Ostland has made a major effort to finally pacify and settle the region, and ever since the settlers have had to deal with the WAAAGH!!'s leavings.

Squigs are hunted on either an ad hoc basis or by professional squig hunters. The former usually consists of farmers and other rural folk seeking to either kill or drive off the beasts before they devour the villages herds or inhabitants. Oftentimes the villagers bring the butchered carcasses of the creatures to the nearest market town though sometimes they will simply burn the dead beasts due to ignorance of their value. The latter group consists of retired soldiers, adventurers and hunters who have decided to specialize in one form of prey.

Even the common cave squig is a dangerous beast in spite of its immense stupidity and their bodies consist mostly of tooth filled maw and stomach. More than able to kill a man, squigs will attack nearly any creature it encounters without any provocation. Hunters must be cautious when approaching, taking care to avoid alerting the squig to their presence, and be alert for other beasts surprising them, for cave squigs travel in packs. Once a squig herd has been located, the most common tactic used by hunters is to lure it into an ambush at a prepared defensive position. There are several ways to do this, from using fire to force the herd to travel to the ambush site, to using a trail of bait. However the most successful tactic is for one of the hunters to gain the attention of the herd and heading to the ambush site at full speed, preferably when mounted. The actual killing of the squigs ideally involves attacking from range with bows and handguns. Failing that boar spears are recommended, preferably more than one per hunter for when a squigs snapping jaw inevitably snaps a shaft of one of the spears.

The dangers of squig hunting are great, but many will say that the profits are worth it. The red hides of cave squigs fetch good prices on market. are used to make a tough leather that is used to make durable scabbards, clothing, saddles and straps for armor, as well as tough armor in its own right after it has been boiled. Their flesh usually commands much lower prices as it is tough and mildly poisonous to humans, causing painful stomach cramps unless properly treated, and as such it is most frequently fed either to the poor, for whom it is likely to be the largest cuts of meat that they will ever eat or to ogres, who can digest squig meat without issue. However, the cult of Esmeralda has developed a process to render cave squig meat digestible and in the settlements blessed with a Great Kitchen of Esmeralda squig stew is a popular dish. Their walnut sized brains are used by wizards and enchanters to make potions that cause the imbiber to briefly enter a state of rabid frenzy and attack their foes with immense ferocity.

The rarer breeds of squigs bring their own challenges and profits to the table. Gas squigs, for example, spew noxious miasma clouds at those they attack, and so one must either attack it from beyond the reach of its miasma or use protection for the mouth, nose, and eyes to prevent oneself from emptying his stomach as the gas squig rips open his belly. If one succeeds in taking the beast down its gas sack will fetch a fine price from doctors and priests of Shallya who use it as an ingredient in antidotes for several poisons.

an other horrible hobby/job that i very much never want to do.
still if there are ppl willing to do it, more power to them.

A somewhat more serious question.

But how long do you think Karak Ungor has before the Skaven dig their way into its depths? The Skaven will have started plotting how to destroy the place ever since it was re-established.

To be honest. I give the place less then a century before it's just as besieged and entrenched as other Karaks.

Skaven relatively recently had one of their population centers wrecked, one which it isn't unlikely to have been a staging ground for any such operation in the works. The goblins, meanwhile, have a bit of an awkward situation with a spider god dominating their internal agenda.

Iirc they lost a lord of decay.

Something that ... just doesn't happen. It'd take a while to explain but the tldr? They have bigger fish to fry.

Every skaven on the planet has an eye on skavenblight and stealing a spot on the council or making sure no one gets it.

I think the answer is how long are the skaven able to be United to attack a hold. While eventually yes skaven will find a way the dawi have their rune raft back somewhat to golden age level. That means golem and other runic magic. That is not on top of the engineering feats that the dawi have to also defend themselves. I expect a attack eventually but not for decades maybe a century. Right now the skaven are fighting the orks and that will end badly for the dawi anyway I see it.

Oh im not talking about massive attacks and assaults.

Im wondering when the miners of Ungor are gonna have to start moving in groups. When they'll be listening for skulking.

Why would they have ever stopped? At this point the dawi know they will be attacked they just have hope that the Karak Ankor will not die.

Pffft, well we wouldn't be that up front with it. Freddy might have more respect for gods and cults now but he still tries to get something out of relationship too.

It would be more like meeting them and asking what we can do to have them spread more throughout Ostland, hopefully from there would organically develop into actions we can take during turns for wider benefits.
