2321.Q4 - Mission Control
Of all the star systems of the Federation, the Sol System is the busiest and most heavily trafficked by far. More than the Capital, the system is the beating heart of Federation industry, eclipsing Tellar Prime over the last two decades. Freighters deliver load after load of processed duranium, cargo ships arrive with goods, components, civilian ships ferry dignitaries, and a constant flow of starships come and go for refits, overhauls, and shore leave. At any moment there are over a dozen interstellar starships, thousands of in-system craft, and satellites by the million. Everything from small orbital residential communities orbiting Saturn to the gargantuan Earth Spacedock fill out the orbits of the system's planets.

All of this generates so much tracking data that it eclipsed the ability of humans alone to track centuries ago. Now it is largely handled by a series of operations rooms where monolithic mainframes crunched the details. When anomalies arise, they are processed for any clear details regarding possible type, locale, and risk profiles. With these details in hand, the systems present the anomaly for review by an appropriate control room. Naturally, some anomalies were more critical than others, and appear for sentient review with a variety of possible profiles, starting from something as simple as an inbox notification on a technician's console, and going on up.

When the anomaly in Jupiter orbit is first detected on automated sensor pickets, they bounce the feed first to the Jupiter Orbital Control Outpost, "Jo-ko", a station operated by UESPA. The onboard computer takes the barest look at the anomaly's nature before shutting down processing and rerouting the incoming signal to Starbase 1 in Sol orbit. Before that signal arrives, Asteroid belt sensor pickets, some dating to the time of the original Earth-Romulan War, catch the leading wave of the anomaly next. A civilian research station on Ceres begins processing the feed. Operators begin throwing their hands up when a split second later their screens displays out and display a Starfleet Security Lockout screen. At the same time, Starfleet ship-mounted sensors in Mars orbit begin to pick up the signals, including the freshly commissioned USS Enterprise-C, whose new bleeding edge systems compile a signature for the event a half-second before the older facilities aboard Starbase One catch hold of it.

At which point the fun begins, centered around the not-so-humble Mission Control Room aboard Starbase 1.

-

"Commander th'Vahrlass, scheduled arrival."

You look up from the PADD that you had been reviewing. Commander th'Vahrlass to your shift, Hanith to your colleagues in the staff room poker tournament, you have been running this facility since the beginning of the year, after a stint in a similar role for Starbase 10 at Rigel.

"And... there she is, one Betazoid cruiser secured from warp seven, neatly in the Tee-Nez," mutters your assistant next to you, off the audio loop. It's a routine arrival though. You give him a little nod of your antennae. It's a species distinctive affirmative. The Chief Petty Officer has been around the Fleet long enough to know though, and he settles back in his seat while you take a sip of your coffee. There aren't many of your species that drink the stuff, of course. But in your opinion it is Humanity's finest contribution to the interstellar community, by the length of the Uushakar ice shelf. No doubt your taste for it is on your file somewhere - it might even explain how an Andorian has come to run the alpha shift in the most important Starbase in the Federation. For a humble Commander, it's a hair-raising amount of responsibility.

A moment later a voice intrudes over the external audio loop.

"Starbase 1, this is BDS Rixx, reporting arrival in-system. Requesting access through Trans-Neptunian Exclusion Zone."

The Lieutenant at Comms looks over at you while you scan over the read-out on the four-way authentication code-check running in the background of the hail. A lovely little line of green lights go down the right hand side of the LCARS. Across the rest of the display are all the various flight details. A quick scan matches up with what you expect. The Lieutenant at the Comms desk is also looking over those details himself, but it never hurts to double check work. "MCO, Comms, handshake good. Fingerprint good."

"Copy, Comms," you reply. Honestly, you could do this with a nod and a thumbs up, but if someone accidentally lets through a carefully disguised warbird, then someone had better have the right details on their tape when the Inspector-General or Intel's Office 15 comes knocking. "Looks green, proceed."

"BDS Rixx, this is Starbase 1 Mission Control, copy your request. Welcome to Sol System."

"Hello, Starfleet! Glad to be here, Mission Control."

You relax in your seat and take another sip as Comms makes a quick check around to SFI, Ops, the UE, and a few other registers to see if there are any issues with the arrival. It takes only a few moments, mostly bouncing between various duotronic mainframe systems. Overall, It is a relatively routine day at the office for the alpha shift. There were a few close-calls during construction work of the new Explorer Corps logistics station in Jupiter orbit. Some disputes about arrival precedence between Tellar and Andorian freighters had kept you busy for the first hour. The highlight of the day so far has been supervising an interplanetary law enforcement intercept. A few Starfleet runabouts had been ready to launch from Utopia Planitia in case they were needed, but thankfully everyone got to go home safely, including the accused.

Of course, you don't just handle Sol System traffic. Starbase 1 is the hub for the whole sector, which is why you work with a constant flow of bright eyed Staff officers from Sector and Task Force. This side of the job is causing a lot more worry this morning. A series of ships have been having their tracks drop in and out as they cross the Sector. A convoy en route to Vega Station disappearing for two hours brought the Starbase First Officer, Captain Cesar Gonzalez, and the Task Force Flag Aide, Captain Pak Yeonwoo out onto the floor. Thankfully, they recently left the nerve center after helping clearing through some local subspace distortions. Great officers, and a handy pair in the senior staff poker nights, but you just get twitchy about senior officers on your control room.

"Science, Mission," you say, voice calm.

"Copy, Mission," comes the reply.

"Make sure to check the subspace wake shadow on the Rixx. No point playing around on a day where we've had sensor anomalies."

"Copy that. Results coming in now, sensors are green, full read-outs will be on Telemetry's desk now."

"Thanks, Science." You look up and across at where the Lieutenant in charge of the tracking station is riding herd on a pair of senior Petty Officers. "Tracking, Mission, you're good to link up." A thumbs-up answers you back.

"Rixx, this is Tracking, requesting flight plan and navigational interface."

"Understood, Tracking, submitting data packet."

"Okay, stand by."

On the main status screen that occupies most of the wall in front of them, a bright new track appears, tracing a line that crosses the solar system. It originates beyond Neptune Orbit, the closest that any non Starfleet or UESPA starship is allowed to come to the Sol star before cutting warp and checking in with Mission Control. Having to work with mission control on anything is anathema to most Starfleet Captains, a notoriously independent lot, but for other powers, the control is considered par for the course. And speaking of courses, the Rixx's orbital track on the screen ended neatly with a minor inertia dump half an AU out from Sol IV and an easy approach before circularising their orbit near one of the Utopia Planitia berths. Around about the point of the inertia dump they'll be out of your hair and in the hair of your counterpart at Utopia Planitia Orbital Control.

"All, Mission, polling for the Rixx, give me green-red," you call over the mission control loop. Almost immediately you start seeing a line of green marks appear on your LCARS as everyone reports in. Green marks plus one little red mark that turned your smile upside down.

"MCO, Medical, the system just flagged a recent Class 7 infectious agent report on the Rixx."

Your frown becomse a full fledged grimace. "Copy, Class 7."

"Comms, Medical, get us an SBL."

"Rixx, this is Mission Control, we're going to need a Sickbay Uplink to clear a flag here."

"Understood, Mission Control, we're opening that now."

A few extra reports appear on your screen. The powerful Starbase 1 mainframe has identified the voice of the Rixx as their alpha-shift Communications Officer, Lieutenant Ixinoi, another part of the system's ongoing processing of incoming details. Different ships put their communications hubs in different places, naturally. Betazoid Patrol Cruisers tend to have their comms officers occupy an alcove of the bridge, their conversations just a quiet part of the background noise of the bridge environment. Others separate them off into a separate comms room with direct access to a variety of specialist cryptographic equipment and maintenance access to the main subspace relays.

"MCO, Medical, flag is cleared. I've registered with Starfleet Medical Infectious Diseases but looks like everything was treated correctly."

You put your hand over your voice pickup and turn to the petty officer next to you. "I guess that's a no on contracting Betazoid Heartfire today."

"I'm almost disappointed," replies your assistant dryly.

"Comms, Mission, I have a green-line, proceed."

"Course approved, Rixx, you may transit the exclusion zone."

"Thanks, Starfleet,
Rixx underway."

A quick turn and you pick out the Network Coordinator's station, a quintet of people operating stations off to your right. "Coord, Mission, go ahead and register the Course Notice."

"Copy that, Mission."

You hear some noises behind you, and when you turn around you see the Starfleet Security detail at the door checking over an unfamiliar officer in Starfleet Intelligence pink ... with no rank or office insignia. Strange to say the least. Apparently the security detail thought so too, as a number of extra Security types began quietly appearing and loitering nearby, phaser pistols standing out boldly on their hips. To your surprise a moment later and the security begins to dissipate and the officer is allowed through. She walks directly up to your console and sits down in one of the vacant seats.

"Let's just bypass the twenty questions I had to go through at the door," she says aloud. "Computer, validate code Delta-Omicron-Gamma-Beta-1-9-8-5."

A happy chirp pops out of the console in front of you. "Successfully validated; validation code belongs to Senior Agent Lorraine B., Office 0, Starfleet Intelligence Command."

Every hair on the back of your neck goes straight up like a rocket. Even the simple fact that such a thing as an Office 0 exists is known only to a few officers. Fewer still know what it does. And of those, some very tiny fraction know what it actually does. Before your current posting, you were in the second group. However, your current role came with a briefing that is apparently very similar to the one given to newly minted starship Captains. Learning about the Temporal Agents had not been the most terrifying part of that little talk, but damned if it hadn't been a tight competition.

"I knew things had been running too smoothly today," you say with a heartfelt sigh. "Petty Officer, I'm going to need you to wait by Comms." Your assistant gave you a clipped 'Yes, sir' and gave you some privacy. "Well, Agent, I don't think I've polluted any timelines lately..."

"From a certain linear perspective," replies the Agent. "But for now, just relax, Commander. Commodore Chekov will be joining us shortly, I'm sure you will want to make a good impression."

You say bolt upright in your seat. Nothing like having your boss' boss on hand to instill a good sense of blind terror, particularly when that boss is a bona fide legend of Starfleet. One with some Endurance-related ghost stories around him at that. Then something catches your attention. "That's impossible, Commodore Chekov is attending a meeting at Gaen, he's lightyears away."

The agent grins a little wryly at your reaction. "Of course, before we begin, it is important for you to understand something."

"Neither Commodore Chekov, nor I, were ever here."

"I have to say, Agent, you're confusing the hell out of me, what are-"

A sharp trilling beep interrupts the conversation. "All, science, hold channel, hold channel." You can only store wordlessly at the Temporal Agent, who allows herself the smallest of smiles. "MCO, Science, temporal anomaly forming in Jupiter orbit."

Right.

You train for years, starting in the Academy, but it never really ends. You read papers, briefings, you examine the actions of storied commanders. Everything in preparation for a moment where you need to stand and make the decisions that will see you celebrated or vilified. Except who knows what the real story is, what with a Temporal Agent at your side. A deep breath is all you can give yourself before you plunge in.

"Copy temporal, copy Jupiter," you reply, voice solid and strong. "AEO, Mission, call system-wide yellow-alert, call sector-wide Flash: Anomaly in Sol, hold off approach. Tracking, eat Jo-ko; divert all civilian traffic out of orbit, towards Ceres." Over your shoulder, you can see the Ground Control officer already in motion. "GC, lock the doors, start temporal protocols." Out of the corner of your eye you see an approving nod from the newly arrived agent.

It takes only a moment for the order to be answered. Behind you a Station Master-at-Arms issues Type-III phasers to a pair on the door. "Copy, MCO, room sealed. All, GC, be advised we are now operating under temporal secrecy restraints."

"Core, Mission, take us to Red Alert," you say, switching audio loops to the Starbase's internal control net. A moment later klaxons begin to sound in the halls and the distinctive red lighting appears.

"DCO, Core, kill off all dock approaches, we need to raise shields."

"All system orbital tracks, this is Mission Control, wave off any approach on Starfleet or UESPA assets. An anomaly has occurred and is being investigated."

"Science, Mission, details, what have we got?"

"Still pulling in details, and cross-collating from a number of sources," replies the Lieutenant-Commander running the sensors. "Our best eyes on target are the two Ambassadors in Mars orbit. We're dealing with a large, highly volatile temporal rift. This one is baryon-open, and we are picking up bits of matter we are trying to analyse."

"MCO, Planetary, I have warning lights across the upper atmosphere of Jupiter, that rift is causing a lot of spacetime curvature tidal stresses."

The science officer replies before you can. "Right - also, Enterprise-C is already done with preliminary matter analysis. This rift is trans-dimensional, there's an infinitesimal energy shift originating in a tiny change in the fine-structure constant as they arrive in our dimension."

"Tracking, Mission, what ships do we have in system?"

"MCO, we have Ambassador, Enterprise, Lightning, Rixx, a UESPA Connie-B, Constellation-A, and two Mirandas," answers the man's tightly strained voice. With nearly every craft in system registering an abrupt course change, life had just become very busy at his station.

"Mission, Core, shields are up."

"Roger that."

"MCO, Comms, the Enterprise is communicating with a ship through the rift, responding on ... Commander, they're hailing the Tarrak!"

Calm, professional, precise. That's what your job requires, and you aren't going to make any odd squealing noises at the arrival of a ship that was on the verge of being declared presumed lost with all hands on the other side of a trans-dimensional temporal rift. Or, well... You aren't going to make many odd squealing noises.

"MCO, Telemetry, incoming data packet from Tarrak. Beat up, but Enterprise is repeating a cleaned-up version."

"Telemetry, copy, isolate and process."

The Temporal Agent coughs into hand next to you, getting your attention. "Actually, that may take a while, so let me give you the cliff notes. On the other side of that rift is the greatest temporal hazard we have encountered since the 25th Century-"

"What?" you blurt.

"Sorry, you get a very non-linear appreciation for time in my line of work," she replies with a grin and a shrug. "Anyway, forces on the other side of that rift are attempting to weaponise spacetime across dimensional lattices."

As you take in the agent's words, you frown and cross your arms, giving her a piercing look. "Alright, so you knew something was coming, and you've come here to do something about it. What do you need from me?"

Before the Agent could speak, a new voice cuts in as someone sits in the chair abandoned by your assistance. A voice using what your human colleagues tell you is a "Rushing" accent, or something along those lines. Human sub-cultures elude you.

"We need you to be Mission Control, of course," answers Commodore Chekov.

"What? But, how, when, what?" you blurt and look between Chekov and the sealed door. "C-Commodore, I'm going to require you to validate your identity."

Chekov gives you a roguish grin and quickly validates his identity ... but not the one you have heard before. "Successfully validated; validation belongs to Temporal Coordinator, Commodore Pavel C., Office 0, Starfleet Intelligence Command."

"By the star of Andor," you mutter, shifting nervously in your seat.

"Don't let anyone know we were ever here," says Chekov, "Gather up as many wessels as you can and get them to the breach. Meanwhile, we will make sure you don't get caught out by temporal matters."

It is a quirk of Starfleet operating regs that it is considered better to leave things in the hand of a officer on the scene with expert knowledge - even if they are junior - than necessarily hand authority directly to a flag officer who needs to be brought up to speed. Chain of Command is important, of course, but at the end of the day, Starfleet is about navigating through what works, and what is right and just. A flag officer is no latter-day god among mortals, after all. So even with the Commodore at your side, and a note on your console that the Starbase commander has arrived at the control center, your dispatch role remains crucial.

"Comms, Mission, tag Lightning and UES Luna to the anomaly. Place it under interdiction. Private comm."

"MCO, Tracking, I have Enterprise and Ambassador on the move. Give a wave off?"

You nearly laugh aloud at that. Explorer Corps has a hate-hate relationship with starbase control teams at the best of time. "Tracking, Mission, moot point, ignore it."

At your side Chekov speaks up. "Rear Admiral ka'Sharren is on the Enterprise right now. She'll take the Explorer Corps ships through, but they'll need more support."

"Comms, Mission, advise all fleet stations there is a threat according to the Tarrak data packet. All combatant ships emergency launch."

Up on the main screen you can see the burgeoning chaos occurring as dozens after dozens of new tracks appear every second, with hundreds of in-system craft, some massive asteroid miners, break for new orbits away from Jupiter, either inwards towards Venus and Mercury, or outwards towards Saturn. Equally, vivid blue and green tracks announce friendly starships making their approaches. A minute passes by and you get a chance to skim the data packet from Tarrak. The thought that if they can come through this rift, other ships can follow quickly grabs your attention.

"AEO, Mission, standby for Priority One Code flash," you announce. The magnitude of what you are about to announce roils your guts for a moment, but you push the feeling aside. "Computer, unlock Priority Code One protocol; authorisation th'Varlass-Sigma-Omicron-Lambda-3-3-7."

"Authorisation accepted."

"Computer, queue a Priority Code One Signal - Emergency Sol System, dimensional portal open, threat of unknown ingress. All ships respond to earth." In your mind's eye you can see the enormous size of the Starfleet Organisational pyramid that sits above your head. All waiting and ready to squash you if this turns out to be some sort of false alarm. Of course, with Chekov and the temporal agent handy, that hardly seems like a likely outcome, but still. "AEO, Mission, dispatch the queued Code One flash."

"Copy that, MCO."

You turn your head to Commodore Chekov. "Well, that's one mandatory Board of Inquiry I've let myself in for."

"Not bad," says Chekov. "I didn't get a board of inquiry of my own until I was a Captain."

"MCO, Tracking, the Enterprise just deployed through the rift. Ambassador is approaching."

"MCO, Comms, I just had a report from the Lightning, they're planning to follow."

"Comms, Mission, affirm the Lightning. Instruct Luna to follow."

"MCO, Science, it looks like the rift is destabilising, it will be impassible within five minutes."

"That is expected," says Chekov. "Vessels will not be able to traverse for a while, but the rift will remain, and can be unlocked from the other side."

That draws a wince. "OID, Mission, instruct Jupiter outpost to change orbit to bring it into range of the rift."

"Roger - ETA fifteen mike."

"Understood."

"MCO, Tracking, Lightning and Luna are through. It looks like the rift is now losing baryonic-permissiveness."

"Mission, Network, FYI, I'm getting requests for updates from everyone from the First Officer up to Admiral ch'Tharvasse and the Office of the President."

You turn towards Chekov barely able to keep panic out of your expression.

"Exciting, isn't it?" replies the old explorer with a broad grin.

Omake - Ambassador Launch Party - Charysa
AN: It looks like everyone skipped the actual launch of the Ambys and just went to the shakedown event. So, I decided to whip this together.

~~~~~
Ambassador Launch Party
A lone bottle arced lazily through the thin and dusty upper atmosphere of Mars, glinting briefly under the haze of filtered sunlight and nearby drydock lights, before splintering into a bloom of glass shards and liquid droplets upon impacting against gleaming metal hull. The camera zoomed outwards, away from the insignificant mass of glittering debris, compared to the massive bulk of the behemoth that was rising from its birthing cradle. A newborn starship broke free of its moorings, her more renowned sibling just a bare moment behind her.
Mad cheering had crescendoed in the main reception hall of the Utopia Planitia Fleetyard orbital complex, all eyes fixed on the two large displays showing the official launch sequence of the two Ambassador class starships. Smaller holographic windows peppered the edges of the hall here and there, displaying various particularly hologenic sensor outputs and camera shots of the departing ships, or the myriad news media streams covering the event.
A gaggle of Starfleet Academy cadets huddled near a corner of the hall, not too far from one of the buffet tables. Their attempt at awed inobstrustiveness was somewhat marred by the fact that several of them were still halfway in costume from the play they had performed in the earlier pre-launch presentation.
"I don't get it," Akesh Momon spoke up, waving his half-empty glass of Qlaothi ceremonial wine pointedly. "What's destroying alcohol have to do with launching a ship?"
"An ancient Earth tradition, Cadet," came the answer from Commander Rondeau, the chaperone of the motley Academy group. "It's a gesture for good luck that goes all the way back to to the days of naval ships."
"They didn't do that when the Voshov launched from Lor'vela," a first year Tellarite cadet couldn't resist protesting.
"It's mainly just done at the San Francisco and Utopia Planitia yards," Rondeau amended with a shrug. "Still over half the new ships for the Fleet most years."
"Why a bottle of Miruvorie for the Ambassador though?" an Amarki cadet piped up next. "I've never even heard of the brand back home, it's so obscure."
"Oh, I know this one!" Momon interrupted before their instructor could respond. "Historians believe it's a derivative of the ancient Orion drink called Miruboze, probably introduced to Amarkia from cultural contamination during the Orion Imperial era."
The Amarki cadet scowled at the explanation. "What, so because the captain is an Orion, they decided to pick an Amarki drink that came from Orion instead of just picking an Orion drink?"
"Miruvorie was also a commonly used ceremonial drink in the early days of Amarki spaceflight, before it went out of fashion about a century ago," Rondeau added mildly. "However, you'll find, cadets, that a lot of the symbolic gestures in events such as this one are more likely to be the end result of political maneuvering."
There was a brief silence as the cadets digested the lecture. Then, one of the civilians who'd accompanied the group spoke up tentatively.
"The 2301 Dom Pérignon for the Enterprise is very traditional, though," said the young man. "My parents are vintners, and I heard that Dom Pérignon reserves some bottles every year a keel is laid down or a five year mission starts."
"You're right," Rondeau confirmed. "In Enterprise's case, it's more likely that politics were involved in preventing some ideas from going through." He smirked. "As a matter of fact, we came very close to getting a bottle of Vin Du Andor or Romulan Ale from Admiral Nash's private stock."
Several eyes tore away from the vid screens to stare at the instructor in surprise.
"Isn't Romulan Ale...illegal?" Momon asked what was on everyone's mind.
Rondeau waved a hand. "If it's given to you in a formal fleet ops by the woman who's now sitting in the Emperor's chair, then it's a diplomatic gift."
"Leaving already, Reng?"
Specialist Reng Yanag slowed in his walk down the corridors and turned his head to greet the familiar voice.
"Iniu, long time no see. I didn't think this was your kind of event."
His taller Gaeni friend caught up with a few quick strides of his longer legs.
"It isn't," Dr. Iniu Sad-harr agreed, smiling at his former Academy classmate. "But after one too many accusations of poisoning and instances of actual food poisoning between the Romulan and Klingon delegations and, well, here I am."
Yanag snorted. "People actually let you mess with food nowadays? Oh how things have changed." He remembered in their Academy days, everyone including the instructors had threatened the man next to him to not experiment with anything that others were going to eat.
Sad-harr rolled his eyes behind the thick layer of his smart-glasses. The same sentiment had gotten tiresome after hearing it for the umpteenth time. "Yes, yes, so I have the last laugh. How have you being doing, Reng?"
"The Isolinear project keeps me very busy with a great amount of data," Yanag replied, letting the previous subject go. "To answer your question, yes, the Lightning is going to ship out soon. We're supposed to shadow the Ambassador and the Enterprise to the outer edge of the Sol system, and then head onwards to Gaen."
"Why are you shadowing them?" Sad-harr asked curiously. "You're not carrying a media delegation if you're headed to Gaen."
Yanag shook his head. "No, we're to deliver the delegation of Gaeni technical observers back home. Officially, we're going to be taking some further readings of the Ambassador-class ships on their behalf..."
"Officially," Sad-harr echoed thoughtfully, "...so, unofficially?"
"I wouldn't have the clearance to know about any 'unofficial' orders," Yanag replied, then gave his companion a significant look. "But, half the people I've spoken to, especially among the old member races of the Federation, have all evinced the superstition that something will...'happen' on an Enterprise shakedown."
"The Fleet too, huh," Sad-harr murmured. At Yanag's frown, he elaborated on the cryptic phrase. "Lately the bets have been flying wild around the Academy on the same topic. It's almost as if people are taking it for granted that something abnormal will occur, it's just a matter of what." He smiled again. "It almost makes me want to go with you."
Yanag shot him a stern look. "Don't tell me you've gone native on me," he scolded his friend. "They said the same thing too when we installed in the isolinear computer system on the Lightning, but nothing weird has happened with it these last few months."
"Alright, I won't ask if you've joined the betting then," Sad-harr chuckled, waving his hands in surrender. "I'll just wish you a quiet mission." He slowed down his gait as the two of them drew close to the transporter room.
"Oh I'm sure it's not going to be quiet with all those Gaeni technicians running around," Yanag teased him as he stepped into the transporter room. "I'll send you a comms about that instead when I get to Gaen."
~~~~~

The second floor alcoves along the fleet-yard reception hall were more designed for technical access than for VIP reception, hence why there were few people present even during such a crowded event. For the same reason, they made for an natural place for someone familiar with the layout to find a moment of solitude in the midst of celebration.

"Heavy thoughts, Ambassador?"

The tall Vulcan leaning in the shadow of the alcove turned toward the door without a hint of surprise on his face.

"Merely...meditating on the passage of time, Admiral," Spock replied to his friend with a slight incline of his head in greeting.

"Ah, heavy thoughts indeed," Uhura teased him with a grin, walking further into the room to join him. "I'm surprised you're not out there taking advantage of the fact that we've got the observers from the Romulans and Klingons on the same floor without bloodshed."

"I am still recovering from the last attempt," Spock admitted wryly, looking down to the reception floor again.

"Age catches up to all of us, even you," Uhura nodded mock-sagely.

Spock eyed her from the corner of his eyes. "I am curious, though, that Mr. Sulu and Mr. Chekov are not present. I was not aware that they had other engagements at this time."

Uhura huffed. "If you're fishing about where Hikaru's gone off to, I've got to admit I have no idea."

"Not vacationing on Risa then?" Spock mused with a raised eyebrow.

"Don't tell me you actually bought that pack of sweet lies he told everyone before he retired," Uhura said through outright laughter.

"I don't believe I have purchased anything--" Spock began, pedantically.

"You know what I mean," Uhura interrupted him. "As for Chekov, he's on Gaen. Supposedly. Under rather…unique orders. You understand what I mean."

There was a long silence as Spock stared at his friend, his eyebrows slowly climbing back to his hairline.

"I see," the Vulcan said at last. "I take it that the launch of this Enterprise is likely to be no less eventful than the previous."

"Did you really expect anything else?" Uhura asked him even as her custom communicator suddenly began to chime in a high urgency tone.

"I have avoided calculating precisely that," Spock told her with a deadpan voice, before silently departing the room to give her privacy for what was sure to be a highly sensitive briefing. With quick steps, he began to head back down to the floor of the reception hall. His mental calculations told him there was a near certainty that he would soon have use for his skills once the pandemonium starts.

2321.Q4 - USS Lightning
USS Lightning screeched through Sol space at the relatively reckless velocity of warp two, Earth shrinking to a dot behind them. The sensors had already picked up the two thunderclaps of the Enterprise and Ambassador engaging their warp drives, and now Lightning strained to rendezvous with them in time at Jupiter.

Inside the ship, yellow alert lights pulsed as Captain Victoria Villeneuve rushed out of a conference room, already suited up, helmet under her arm. She was followed by a shorter man, clearly not as accustomed to moving in the vacuum suits. Villeneuve tapped the new combadge affixed to her chest and the man caught up, "Villeneuve to bridge. I don't care what Starbase 1 says, push us to warp 2.1. I am not going to slow down the Old Lady."

"I cannot believe this," whined Captain Wolfe of Starfleet Intelligence, "Head over to the Lightning and debrief them on Horizon activity. Transfer over critical intelligence materials. Go home in time to pick up my kid." He shook his head as he adjusted his grip on his helmet, "Should have sent Cristina. Hopefully she's picking Orah up for me."

"I can always spare an escape pod if you're that desperate." Villeneuve replied wryly.

Wolfe grimaced as he tapped at the arm console of his vacuum suit, his gait normalizing as he adjusted its fit. "Do I have to be in this thing? I'm more than happy to just run around in my uniform." He watched as some crew loped past, "Can you even sprint in these?"

"It's my policy on this vessel that crew wear vacuum suits when combat is expected."

"So I've heard. Though it can't be easy to navigate jeffries tubes either," Wolfe looked up at her, "Maybe I can make some policy that lets me take this getup off? I'm the same rank as you, after all."

"I am the commander of this vessel, so I set the rules. My rule is to minimize risk." They came to a turbolift door, Villeneuve stopping to let Wolfe pass, "Deck one."

"And you call yourself Explorer Corps." Wolfe snorted dramatically, "Risk is our business! Enterprise must have gotten soft after I left."

Villeneuve tapped the STOP button on the turbolift, "Listen, I know it's not what you are used to. But let me be clear -- I don't need this talk on my bridge. If you want to keep this commentary track going, I have quarters ready for you. If you try to remove that suit, I will have Lieutenant Piyra--" The ship's rather intimidating, if cheerful, Yan-Ros security officer, "--Stun you for your own safety."

The outburst was unusual. Wolfe paused, his eyebrow raised to practically Vulcan standards. Then it clicked for him. Behind her serene mask, Victoria Villeneuve -- Captain at 34, veteran of two wars, and inventor of the Weave that bore her name -- was as nervous as he was. Probably even moreso.

He flashed a disarming smile. "You won't need her, Captain. With my tactical scores I'm pretty sure Mipek could subdue me. So I'll keep quiet."

"Ah. Good!" Villeneuve said, relieved. She hit the button to let the turbolift resume, "Not completely quiet, however, because I can use your abilities. I want you running Strategic Ops to assist our coordination with Rear Admiral Nash."

"Aye, aye, Captain." Wolfe said affably as the turbolift doors wooshed open and they stepped onto the bridge. Villeneuve went right to the Captain's chair, while Wolfe stepped up and behind her to the bank of consoles that dominated the back wall.

The viewscreen showed the fat globe of Jupiter, rapidly growing in size. The conn reported they had been very sternly told to drop to impulse by Starbase One, to avoid any unwanted interactions with the anomaly.

Mipek's voice chirped through Wolfe's combadge, "Notice: I have reconfigured the operations monitor for your duties, Captain."

"So you have. And just the way I like it. Very good." He pressed a button, smirked to himself, and adjusted a bar on the display, "One minor problem, just got to crank up the haptic feedback here. You know, to compensate for these thick gloves." He glanced over his shoulder at Villeneuve, who didn't even deign him with an annoyed glance. He glanced back at the console, scanning it quickly. "Command says the situation will likely involve Tactical operations."

"Red alert! That means helmet on, Mr. Wolfe," said Villeneuve, pulling hers on and snapping it into place. She turned to face Lieutenant Commander ch'Sukar, the science officer, "Time to breach?"

"Sensors report ninety seconds."

The Lightning took position behind the UES Luna, burning hard for the rift.

"Luna's hailing us," Wolfe reported, "Captain Ming is asking what took us so long."

"Mr. Wolfe, send a response that includes a proportional amount of sarcasm," Villeneuve ordered.

Wolfe tapped out a response, snickering to himself. His eyes snapped to a new alert. "Starfleet Command has issued final authorization to transit the anomaly." Wolfe didn't note that they had been flying as if that was a given. "Forwarding final rendezvous coordinates to conn."

"Lieutenant zh'Taaliq, put us on final approach." Few on the bridge could see it, but excitement danced in Villeneuve's eyes, "Let's see what we're up against."

Board of Inquiry into Performance of Tellar Sector Fleet

Captain Sealk's review into the actions and performance of the Tellar Sector Fleet encompassed actions of local leadership, Starfleet leadership, levels of resourcing, cooperation with local authorities, and anything arising thereof. Asa result of his review, a number of recommendations have been made, including administrative action proffered against a number of individuals. It has been found that garrison levels are undesirably low, but given the demands of the Gabriel Border Zone, a written submission by Vice Admiral Eaton defended these levels. The first recommendation made was for an increase to required garrison values in Tellar Sector. Although not a formal notice, the second recommendation has seen Rear Admiral Hurgok Sagek take a sabbatical for the time being, which has helped mollify Tellar politics. It is a third recommendation that long-term appointments to the Tellar Sector be constrained, as cultural concerns can see a long term negative progression of relationships between local TSF authorities and Starfleet personnel if not refreshed periodically, and the Rear Admiral has been in his position for in excess of ten years. As a result of this oversight, reprimands have been placed against three members of Starfleet Personnel Command.

Board of Inquiry into Actions of the Crew of the USS Sarek at Ikeigenoi

Commodore Hayashi Kaito's investigation into the conduct of the crew of the USS Sarek at Ikeigenoi has resulted in no charges proffered to Courts Martial. Administrative action has been recorded against a number of officers and crew of the USS Sarek, with reasons stated as being unsatisfactory performance and unsatisfactory conduct. Captain Samyr Kanil was rebuked personally by Commodore Hayashi, and advised that it was only her sterling record to this point that had caused her to avoid being referred to Courts Martial under charges of Conduct Prejudicial to the Interests of the Federation. In spite of this reprimand, the promotions board has still seen fit to clear the long-serving and successful Captain for promotion to Commodore after the successful completion of her Five Year Mission.

2321.Q4 Task Force Update
Ongoing Diplomatic Pushes

Laio: 371/500 + 27 = 398/500
In the aftermath of the Odanner incident, many Federation Diplomatic Source resources had to redeploy from what may be more effective forms of outreach to promotion of interstellar order and stable relations. As a result, improvements in our relations with Laio were a touch more modest, but nonetheless progress has been made.

Yrillian
-[Bigfoot is a Communist Pirate: 151/300] + 48 = 199/300
New Federation Ambassador to the was a survivor of piracy in her youth, and survived a further attack on route to Yrillia. This gave her an especially powerful voice on this topic as she called out the sapient cost of piracy on the galaxy.

Commander's Log, Task Force Beyond, Commodore Samhaya Mrr'shan

I have to report another quarter of mixed successes.

To get the bad news out of the way first: we lost a contract to help develop the new OSA colony sites to the Harmony. While we did initially have an even playing field with the Harmony negotiators eventually the the OSA's public and private interests signed a development agreement with the Harmony's Public Infrastructure Directorate.

Intendant Azhlee was able to successfully argue that as the Federation was already unable to locate and exploit the sites already along our borders it proved that we lacked the industrial slack to help the OSA, and she was also able to demonstrate the superior on-site support capabilities of the Harmony's tender ships to our own designs.

In our credit column is a limited industrial expertise transfer to the Arcadian Empire. The Harmony's demonstration of superior technology was seemingly sabotaged by the head negotiators from the Romulan delegation and our own delegation, a Caitian Mining Syndicate, was able to show up the Romulans by demonstrating the superiority of free workers over their guild which used "Temporarily indentured" labour

Commander's Log, Task Force Handshake, Commodore Min-Jee Lee

This has not been a particularly successful quarter. While we avoided direct detection by Cardassian or Pact-Loyal Dawiar, they have become more adept at putting pressure on our operations. Endurance and the Arqueniou Leb Nin have been identified as our most capable vessels, and were prevented from performing any operations due to relentless shadowing by Pact vessels, coordinated from the Yrmak.

Starfleet Intelligence reports Senior Gul Piten leads the Cardassian effort, and works well with the commanding officer of the Yrmak, Gul Kivaas. Kivaas served as a member of Piten's senior staff on the Ronagot, and the two have both been deployed to the Gabriel Border Zone since. Kivaas became a war hero after he was transferred to the Yrmak, taking command of the vessel and saving it from destruction when its commanding Gul was killed during an engagement with Commodore Revak's task force. He then went on to survive both 24 Enio and 45 Gabriel. Piten, already a successful commander, also rose to particular prominence at 45 Gabriel, he and Kivaas coordinating the fighting retreat that prevented the battle from becoming a total disaster. On the Dawiar mission, Piten and Kivaas have made effective use of minor pact species in key roles, giving them much more operational flexibility and assuring the Dawiar of their support. They're intimidating to be sure, but I find some satisfaction in knowing the Cardassians are afraid enough to send their best.

Though I wish they were less talented. Our quarter opened with a mission by the RDS Hadabat to make covert contact with the Dawiar at a trade summit being hosted in neutral space by, of all people, a Hishmeri sept. Unfortunately, soon after Hadabat rendezvoused with the Sept and began efforts to make contact, listening posts on the Dawiar border detected the Ronagot approaching at high speed, likely tipped off by an informant. Pressed for time, Hadabat was unable to make contact before fleeing. While the Cardassians did not have hard evidence of our presence, it's reported that thirteen children have been taken from that the family of the trading guild making contact, and are destined for 'advanced training' on Cardassia. Needless to say, our contact was unimpressed.

Odyssey's mission was a bright spot, but soon after Charal attempted to make contact with a representative of Clan Voidsplitter in the Vetas star system. She failed to mask her approach, and had to break off from the meeting as Pact vessels closed in. Clan Voidsplitter is now under close scrutiny, and was only saved from more severe repercussions by the Pact being too slow to catch hard evidence of the Charal.

Perhaps the most hair-raising incident was with the USS T'Mir. With Yrmak and others shadowing the Endurance so closely, I made the decision send T'Mir on a secret rendezvous with the clan leader of Moonstone, Thane Garkalis. It was a gamble -- T'Mir is small and cramped even by Dawiar standards, and lacks diplomatic facilities. Its crew makes up for these shortcomings as best as they can. In this case, they could not. Despite a textbook perfect infiltration of the meeting site and the best efforts of Captain Connors, she was unable to sway Thane Garkalis to our cause.

The mission was further complicated as Yrmak got wind of the meeting, and Connors was forced to shelter Garkalis for several tense hours in lower power mode, hiding in the atmosphere of an N-class planet as Yrmak made repeated sweeps of the system. Connors used her impeccable navigation skills to fly the T'Mir to safety while Yrmak was in a ten second blind spot, avoiding a direct confrontation, and sparing Clan Moonstone charges of treason. This was something of a silver lining. While Garkalis was underwhelmed by T'Mir herself, the conduct of her crew in evading the Yrmak rightfully made an impression. While he is still neutral to the Federation, we have not lost Moonstone yet.

We now have very credible intelligence that a pair of Gorn Gator-types have been joined by a three-point-two megaton capital ship in the Kharhazad system. They appear to be entering into their own diplomatic dance with the Dawiar. I plan to be a better partner than them next quarter.

Commander's Log, Task Force Shield, Commodore T'Mina

Hishmeri aggression continues to mount, with two septs now actively attempting to raid the Federation. According to Federation contacts within the Livefleet, the initial failures were seen as an opportunity by two other septs to prove their mettle by succeeding where others failed. Both have made their attempts in this quarter.

One assault on Risan space was obstructed by the CAS Ilotraia and TSS Pralim, at the cost of heavy damage to the Ilotraia. The other Sept - which we suspect has been engaged has been engaged in mercenary activities in the Klingon/Romulan war for at least the past year - appears to have adopted the misdirection tactics that were successfully employed by Klingon raiders against the Federation throughout the later twenty-third century. A diversionary attack led the USS Emancipation and the CAS Anacail out of position, enabling a small raiding force to reach orbit of the Via Nova colony that was established for Bajoran expats near the border of Caitian space just one week ago. Losses include at least 50 units of starship grade construction materials, 200 tons of consumer goods, and one hundred and twenty-five Bajoran, Human, and Caitian colonists.

Several Hishmeri vessels were damaged during the two interceptions, the former of the two Septs, at least, may be more reluctant to raid the Federation in the future. However, this cannot be said to mitigate the quarter's failures, particularly the abduction of Federation citizens. The failure to inform Commander Starlily and the other Hishmeri movement analysts of the possibility of the Hishmeri employing purchased Klingon tactical data was my own, Admiral. If you assess my command to have been inadequate, I will not attempt to dispute your logic.

Member World Coordination Division Report

Admiral,

With Ambassadors now lain down in bulk by Starfleet, another set of Ambassadors are being lain down by member worlds. Andor, Tellar, Earth, plus the STO are building Ambassadors. With this additional quartet, we are well placed for the future, with a new heavy explorer core to Federation fleets.

A new system of centralising and coordinating builds for Federation members is being developed, which ordinarily would be our major talking point when it came to the structural matters of this office. However, as I believe you have already been advised, there is clearly something afoot among the old core and some of the more Pacifist-faction aligned species. "Alignment" is the term I hear most often for the efforts to establish comparison points between Starfleet Academy training and their own service academies. However, at least once I heard an aid to a Commission into Federation Member Efficiency mention the phrase "Federalisation".

Yours Dutifully,
Captain Charles Boucher, Chief of Staff

[ ][PRIORITY] Pick Up to four Member World Priorities to change
[ ][PRIORITY] Change nothing [Weighted 1.5x]
Suggested possible priorities can be things such as:
Focus on building a particular ship type/class
Focus on more cargo shipping
Focus on increasing resources/recruitment
Set a target for Combat or Defence
Start designing a new ship
Prepare a refit of a ship

(There is a build sheet available for access on request in pm/discord that includes build schedules for all Fed members and affiliates - priority changes can also be allowed to change these build schedules)

Select a ship that will serve as a prototype test bed to the Phaser Arrays.
[ ][ARRAY] Nominate a ship (10sr frigate/20sr cruiser/30sr explorer - 1 Qtr at the SDB base to install, +1C -1D)

A joint committee from the Apiata All-Hives, and the Caitian government have approached the MWCD and the SDB with a proposal. A "Joint Ancillary Frigate" program would allow them to make a new era replacement to the Stinger and Swarmer that can be used by all Federation member worlds. It would also include a recognisable Starfleet aesthetic, having come via the SDB. The final design work would be performed by a joint committee of Apiata and Caitian engineers, however, they will require a considerable infusion of research assets from Starfleet to make this work in a reasonable timescale.
[ ][JAFFA] Approve the infusion of research assets (100 RP - project will complete R&D in 4 years)
[ ][JAFFA] Deny request, the Apiata and Caitians will conduct their own analysis

The Indorians are at something of an impasse in their future shipbuilding plans. With the completion of the life-extending refits for the Peketa and Vendan class frigates, they have cleared up considerable yard space. As a result, they are attempting to develop a ten-year vision for their fleet to take them forward.
[ ][INDORIA] Provide a mission statement

A suggestion has been floating around that, with the assistance of a group of Indorian and Betazoid engineers who have experience developing facilities to construct the Renaissance-class, the means to build the ship could be extended to the Tauni SG Command. This would stand instead of the Constitution-B class cruiser they would have otherwise made. Certain components, such as the Warp Core, would be assembled by Starfleet assets and delivered, using raw materials sourced from the Tauni. But for the large part, it would be made by the Tauni themselves.
[ ][TAUNI] Endorse this plan (Tauni may be the Renaissance-class cruiser, 5pp to arrange everything, very small bump to Starfleet Industrial Route Penalty)
[ ][TAUNI] Deny

Shakedown Cruise: The Director - I
Cheron station's security Director allows himself a single blink when his chart updates with a quintet of status changes. Extratemporally Anomalous Contact #321 had returned to his scans, except it was now accompanied by two smaller frigates and two very large Superdreadnaughts.

Troubling.

The Director follows protocol and labels the new vessels as Extratemporal Anomalous Contacts #322, #323, #324, and #325.

Protocol then dictates that the Director send a high priority message to the underway reinforcements of Sterilization Battlegroup Three dash Thirty Six to expedite their arrival and prepare for full scale compliance operation against a task force of unknown capabilities, in addition to their current assignment of conducting a neutralization sweep targeting a single wayward Romulan warbird.

The Director then returns his attentions to the antiquated forces present within the Sol Quarantine Zone itself.
Half of the Fleet is pulled back from its bombardment of the rebellious non-combatant populations of Earth and Ganymede. While the Director now projected a six hundred percent increase in casualties amongst the groundside units currently fighting under the Technocratic banner, in the end they were merely units drawn from Adjutant Species, and their utility quotient fell far short of that of Cheron station itself.

Following on from the recall order, the remaining Fleet units in the Jovian theater were instructed to abandon their attempts to retake the Europa labs intact and were ordered to refocus on the permanent sterilization and decommissioning of the facility. While it would have been informative to discover what exactly the Solarian renegades had been attempting to do with the facility, the arrival of the Extratemporal Contacts now changed the Director's calculus. It was now deemed prudent to effect the immediate destruction of Europa station to prevent acquisition of Technocratic temporal knowledge by the Extratemporal Contacts.

A final set of immediate orders were sent out to the Fleet units near Mars: Deimos was to be destroyed at all costs. The remaining Solarian fleet, damaged and hiding behind fixed defences, was to be destroyed and the Solarian high command killed along with the renegade Lieutenant Governor.

As a final measure, to end the long term threat posed by the Solarian renegades and the Extratemporal Contacts, all capture and recover orders were rescinded and the Fleet instructed to disregard their own casualties. Sol would be sterilized, and all the dissenting elements with it, no matter the cost.

Shakedown Cruise: Part I
53 Years, 3 Months, and Six Days Ago (Solarian Standard)
0.01 Stardates ago

Red lights flash across the darkened command deck playing across gaunt and sweat-stained faces as eyes strain themselves watching terminals and command plots filled with scrolling Vulcanoid letters.

A dark skinned Human leans across the central tactical plot and wipes away one of the few remaining red dots in a sea of green, "Ceres has fallen, we've now lost communications with everyone except Luna and Europa," says the tactical officer.

A once-handsome figure in a red stained white jumpsuit leans heavily on the primary command plot and holds back a heavy sigh. "Well, friends, I don't believe in losing," he chuckles, "or at least; not going down alone."

The tactical officer taps her plot, "I don't plan on going down easily, Jim, but even you have to admit that whether we fight in range of Deimos's guns or sortie with the rest of the fleet, the result is the same." She taps on one of the red dots and a flood of information spills onto the table, red symbols and flashing alerts covering every window. "Enterprise and Yamato are operational enough, but McCoy is telling us that Liberty isn't going to leave her slip before… uh, the end. And those three ships are the core of our fleet, even if every one of our ships were operational we'd still be outnumbered four to one!"

"Well Nyota, we may be outnumbered four to one in ships, but we still have Europa."

"Captain. You can't mean-" says a dark skinned Human in a red stained lab coat with an even more stained tourniquet where one arm abruptly cuts off.

"Indeed I do, Doctor Daystrom" the Human commander looks to his side, at the only non-Human in the room, "Unless you think you can negotiate a surrender, your excellency"

The Vulcan man had long ago turned in his elegant robes for the same white jumpsuit worn by the Solarian rebels, but he still held himself with a self assurance that the Humans had once mistaken for arrogance.

"When I was younger, I had a brother." the Vulcan pauses and his eyes flick downwards for a quick second before he continues, ignoring Jim's look of curiosity, "A half brother from when my father was Governor of Earth."

"I don't see what this has-" says Daystrom before his eyes widen in shock.

"I don't know how it happened. Or why." the Vulcan continues with a shrug, the white jumpsuit loose on his frame, "My father was not a good man. He was a devoted Technocrat. He did not love Humanity, or Humans, but he was Governor of Sol, which is its own reason why."

"I've heard of such things," says Nyota quietly.

"My father didn't know of my brother's existence until the fifteenth year of his assignment, when I was in my first year as his aide," the Vulcan shakes his head, "A compliance officer discovered them during a contraband sweep. The inhumation order from my father came without hesitation."

Rebels in white jumpsuits stuck by sweat and worry to bodies that resemble skeletons more than living beings, lean in, some more discreetly than others.

The Vulcan looks at the Human Captain, holding his gaze steady, "My father was willing, eager, to kill his own son for dispassionate Technocratic protocols, to save his career." A hand gestures around the bridge, at the Humans manning their stations, "Humanity has no future under the Technocracy, no surrender, no amount of submission and assimilation will save you from them. The choice is a fast death or a slow one, it has always been that."

"Fast death it is." Jim Kirk looks over at his tactical officer with a slight grin, "Contact Carol on Europa, tell her that Revelations is a go." The Captain steps back from the command plot and turns to head forward, towards the Captain's station.

Daystrom follows close on Kirk, ducking to avoid a low hanging display screen "Captain, we have no idea if Revelations will work, we need Committee approv-"

"Doctor, we both know that the Electoral Committee died when Utopia Planitia fell. Our leadership is here."

"A handful of starship captains and the Technocracy's Lieutenant Governor of Mars is no fit leadership to decide the future of the Human race in Sol," Daystrom says angrily, gesturing at the Vulcan hunched over the command plot, giving his knowledge of Technocratic protocol to Nyota Uhura.

"And what future is that?" Kirk whirls angrily on Daystrom. "Another three hundred and twenty five years under the Vulcan yoke if we're lucky, with extermination the more likely outcome?" he hisses, "A million innocent people are dying every hour in this siege."

"Who are you to decide for them if they die free or if they try for any life at all?" Daystrom winces slightly as he keeps up with Kirk's quick pace towards his station.

"I'm doing what I can for-" Jim Kirk stops still, arm half extended, frozen in a gesture when the ambient chatter of the command deck increased fivefold.

Daystrom and the Captain dash back towards the command plot and the tactical officer looks up at them, eyes wide. "New contacts. Three megatonnes," she says in shock, looking over at Sybok, "Two of them."

"Likely another secret project, though until now I believed the three ships you seized from Utopia Planitia were the largest ever built by the Technocracy" The former Technocrat's eyes play across the display. "I had believed two megatons was the largest ship possible with Technocratic technology."

"Could they have built something new? It's been almost two ye-"

"Captain!" shouts the painfully thin young man at the communication station. "Incoming hail from Independence Station on Europa."

"Carol?" Kirk eyes flick to the display and then lock with Sybok's. "They're here for Revelations."

A woman's voice comes over the command deck speakers, poor quality and filled with both static and panic. "Jim! We can go on your signal. We can't fight that firepow-"

"Cap! CAPTAIN!" The communications officer's voice breaks as he shouts across the crowded command space. "H-hail from ship -the s-s-ships. And -" the young man struggles to speak, "ANDORIAN SIR. SHE'S ANDORIAN"

Kirk blinks and nods at the young man, "Calm Matt, Calm. Put it through to the tactical plot."

"-ion of Planets."

Captain Jim Kirk studies the woman who appears on the screen carefully. He had never seen an Andorian until after the start of the Solarian revolt, until Enterprise and her sisters had led the first ever human fleet to help the stillborn rebellion on Andoria. He'd still never met a live Andorian.

Until now.

"I'm Jim Kirk, captain of the Solarian ship Enterprise," he smiles, trying out a genuine manifestation of the expression for the first time in a long while, "What can we do for you miss?"

----

Rear Admiral Nash Ka'Sharren holds in a shocked gasp when Enterprise's viewscreen shows her the command deck of the Solarian flagship. She's met her timeline's Captain Kirk before, a James T. Kirk of probably about the same age as the one on her screen.

But not a Jim Kirk as gaunt and skeletal as the one on Enterprise's screen. There are other figures in the background too, gaunt figures, ghosts of Federation heroes.

"Captain Kirk." She debates what she can tell him, what she has time to tell him now. "The Vulcan Technocracy that you fight, they pose a threat to other times, other universes," she struggles to find an efficient way of delivering a message she's barely had time to come to grips with herself, "You're fighting not just your Technocracy, but a Future Technocracy. But we're here to help you stop them for good"

A painful looking smile spreads across the face of a legend, "Are you from a future where the Vulcans are defeated? They are defeated?"

"No. We are from a timeline where the Technocracy never existed, but we are fighting your Technocracy which wants to force itself to exist in all timelines"

Kirk licks his lips and looks over his shoulder at someone else, "You know what miss? We'll take it, I always figured they would bite off more than they could chew." He looks back over his shoulder again. "Nyota, give the woman a tactical link." He turns back. "So what can we do for you miss? We're in bad enough shape that your people will have to take point, we don't even have sensors outside of the Jovian system and Deimos."

"Understood, Captain, where should we direct our calls then?" she grins, reaching into her experience to provide the maximum level of confidence possible.

"Enterprise works, or maybe Sylvia on Yamato. Sol is a bit short of Admirals at present."

Ka'Sharren takes in a breath to reply when Zhang taps her on the shoulder and whispers something in her ear.

"I'd like to keep chatting, Captain, but we have a dozen Technocratic ships to outwit. We'll be in contact." She pauses, one last thing to add before ordering the conversation cut. "Stay safe, Captain."

Jim Kirk just laughs as the screen snaps back to open space.
