So sorry Syndicate, but we're too clever to fall for a trick like that :)

And I was worried for a second there until I remembered the Kadeshi.

Captain's Log, USS Avandar, Stardate 24417.3 - Captain Huth fop Makpol

Late yesterday a Caitian distress call was received in this area. We are searching, but though we find considerable evidence of a recent warping of space-time, and a deviation of causality, in this region, we cannot locate any sign of the Caitian vessel.

[Caitian Swarmer disappears]
Uh oh. Time shenanigans?

More good anti-Syndicate action, and one unfortunate event.

Worst case scenario is that Caitian swarmer was infiltrated by the Syndicate, but the most likely scenario is a failed event resulting in sudden ship loss. Actually, the absolute worst case scenario is the Biophage :V

[Lt Jelan] Yes, captain! It's Kadesh, five Keeper-class motherships. Plus one ship that masses well, sixty million ton.

Not the most massive thing ever encountered by the Federation, but by far the largest vessel ever constructed by a contemporary power.

Just to put this into perspective: A 60mt ship would have taken Starfleet 61 years to build (according to the ship design spreadsheet)!

Hot damn, the Kadeshi manufacturing capacity is astounding. But I do worry about whether this ship even has shields, since that was one of the downsides of the Kadeshi manufacturing techniques.

Captain's Log, USS Enterprise, Stardate 24415.9

We are currently hosting Rachel Sarjan of the Kadesh, and will be escorting them to Sol System. It appears that the great journey to a new homeworld is beginning for the Kadesh!

[Gain +25 relations with Kadesh, +10pp]

Huh, I wonder if we would've gotten this anyway without a Kadeshi push in Q2. Which would make that diplo push a mistake in hindsight. Granted even if this was a guaranteed event, this was still event-based and thus could have failed, but it looks like one of those low difficulty events.

I suspect it's far worse than that considering we've never tried to assemble a ship outside a berth, and mechanically I'm not sure we're even allowed to...so we'd have to build a 60mt berth first.

Hell, with our current technology can we even create a warp bubble big enough for that ship? I doubt it's as simple as "scale up the warp coils reaaaaaallly big!"

I wouldn't. They could very easily just add them on via traditional manufacturing techniques.
But the ammount of special resources that it would take to build a warp core and shield system of that size... Assuming that it's 12 times as much as the estimated amount spent on the Galaxy class, we're looking at 3600 SR, an amount it would take Starfleet nine years to accumulate!

Starfleet only uses a relatively small amount of the resources available to the Federation (and most of them with a view of longterm viability, I mean we haven't had to to worry about mines getting depleted etc.) while the Kadeshi probably operate on a Total Mobilization mentality and completely "stripmined" their area.

So looking at what we have coming out
'12 16D
'13 16D
'14 17D
'15 12D

14 or 15 may go down if an excelsior is crewed by Explorer corp.

I guess the question is, would this episode be the Love and Monsters or the Blink of Starfleet-lite episode of To Boldly Go?

There was the time the Demon!Voyager got destroyed shortly before the Voyage came. And they didn't find anything..
'Course: Oblivion'? That might possibly be the single most depressing episode of Star Trek.

Voyager was frequently terrible , and good quite rarely, but it had a few genuinely amazing episodes. Of ones I've personally seen: Course: Oblivion, Timeless, Year of Hell, Living Witness.

Well, the episode for that failed check would show from the perspective of the missing Caitan ship, and then the ship that failed the check would arrive at the end of the episode, reporting that they couldn't do anything..

2311.Q2.M3 - Master of Orion
Commodore T'Lorel leans forward at the table. "We have not yet properly secured this planet. It is not yet time to move on."

Through the windows of the Kearsage's conference room the planet of Bradia can be seen slowly spinning below, a white, violet and blue marble. Rear Admiral Uhura spends a moment studying it with a serene expression before she turns back to the Vulcan Commodore. "There are many planets in the Union, Commodore. It would be counter-productive to try to completely secure every last component of a planet before moving on. We need to be fast, hit hard, break them down from the top and pursue their strength."

"It is an accepted military truism that you should strike where the enemy is weak, reinforce success instead of failure," points out T'Lorel.

"Further success here gives diminishing returns," replies Uhura. "Meanwhile, on other worlds they continue to whittle away at our Caitian police. We can't stay in one place making it perfect."

"Or, for another truism," adds Commodore Eaton, "The perfect is the enemy of the good."

"Very well," says T'Lorel. "I will prepare for redeployment."

Dearre Nixa walks nimbly past the pistol-whipped form of the chief of police's secretary into the head honcho's office. A woman long on smart talk and short on smart choices, the secretary had obstructed Nixa one time too many. Chief Detective Nixa has been following the trail of corruption on Bradia for too long. Clearly, her mistake was thinking too narrow. This wasn't the corruption of a beat cop or two on the take, or even a crooked Lieutenant. No, this time, 'Mr Big' was worthy of the name. This time it went all the way to the top. So as she lowers her heavy disruptor pistol at the head of the chief of police for all of Bradia, she can detect shock and panic, but also guilt coming off of the man.

Union Interstellar Press Agency

The headquarters of the Department of Justice has been bombed by unknown assailants. Although the Executive Officer for Justice was out of the office at the time and is unscathed, many dozens of civil servants have been killed, and as many as one hundred are still missing in the rubble. No credit has been claimed, but all sources currently put the blame on Syndicate agents as a reprisal for the massive uptick in arrests of Syndicate members throughout Union space.

It is believed that the bomb was delivered into the basement of the building by a civil servant who was blown up by their own bomb. Pheremone influence is strongly suspected.

Duaba Planetary News

An attempted bombing of the ISSU barracks on Duaba has been thwarted, with a number of alleged agents arrested in possession of explosives and detailed plans. If the bombing had gone ahead potentially hundreds could have been killed. It will be alleged by Union authorities that the Syndicate was to blame for these plots, however, anonymous Syndicate spokespeople have stated that mercenaries have no direct ties or membership in the Syndicate.

Anti-Slavery Task Force Progress Report

Operations on Bradia have been in a consolidation phase. The last of the Syndicate mercenaries and major operating units have been rounded up, though not before a number of Frontier Police were harmed by their rear-guard attacks. A surgical beam-in and strike from an Office 24 team was instrumental in resolving this threat. The last piece to the puzzle that Rear Admiral Uhura wanted in place before moving the bulk of Starfleet attention on was to clean up the local PPU. Thankfully the Rixx Scrutineers were able to crack the case, arresting the planetary chief of police on corruption charges. [+5 Impact, +2 Cost, Bradia reduced to Low Syndicate Influence]

The bombing on Alukk and the foiled bombing on Duaba are both signs that the Syndicate still has teeth to fight back with, but, we believe, also a sign that we are inflicting damage on their networks that they are having difficulty absorbing.
