From Discord: player plans to shove dozens of Ambassadors into the EC will not be happening. EC numbers will be limited to what the GMs feel they can keep stories going. What that number will be yet to be determined.

The Regular forces will be gaining most of those under construction Ambassadors.
This I would object to. Not showing all logs would be preferable to restrictions like this.

One of the fun things about this quest was the way it interspersed the mechanical vote posts. We got a vote on shipyards, then story, then a vote on snakes politics, then more story, then a vote on intel, etc. It really gave a feeling of running a huge, lumbering organization. I really liked that and I hope the new form the quest takes will still use something similar.

You'll get the same amount of story either way.

One of the IMO flaws of this quest is the constant and relentlessly increasing numbers and scale everywhere. Truth was, we never got more powerful the way you'd do in, say, a CK2 quest. We never went from a +6 to Science to a +26 in Science, where that increase directly made us better at every d100 Science roll. More ships and territory was always matched with scaling ships and territories of other/new polities. So what's the difference between 5 EC ships + their logs and 25 EC ships but only 5 EC logs? We could say the EC is five times as capable, but the end result is that we have the same amount of story but each story has to have less impact on the world those characters/ships inhabit.

The rate of EC ship growth was not sustainable, this was inevitable sooner or later. And for all that UFP have grown and thus the space that borders it as well, it has not grown enough for that many more EC ships to explore.

Council capping the number of FYMs makes sense, they are great but there is such a thing as too many. Also we might be exploring faster than UFP expands, slowly running out of space to explore within five years round trip range of UFP. Might be why Twenty Year Missions became a thing in canon.

EVERY EXPLORER A CARRIER!
The Bees might be down for it.
The Grand AmBEEtion?
Inspired by the voyage to the Allupii and Dobetians, and flush with the wealth of the Gabriel, the All-Hives draw up plans for a next-generation, Five-Year-Mission-capable Tender to rival the Ambassador, larger than any they've built before.
Capable of tenderising six JAFFAs, or swapping one or two for larger, specialist frigates (such as a new Comb Scout).

Easy to shuffle supply for SR and crew, all the way to sp3.5 for +10SR +1En
An older design of mine, but perhaps a bit of fun.
A thought experiment design, but given the Little Queenship going on the long, relatively successful voyage to the Alupii, I'd not be surprised to hear some voices within the All-Hives are proposing something similar to this. The Bees are resource rich.

If memory serves expanded shuttle bays where not far of.

Still be interesting too see the action from somewhat closer up the from report of the bigger hits alone.

Six tethers, eh?

For a well-rounded 5YM complement, I'm guessing its two Stingers for combat, two Blingers for presence, and two Wringers for science and resource extraction?

Yeah, pretty much. Given the P13 of the tender, and the Bee compulsion to protect their queens, I'd been thinking one Presence/Courier ship, one-two scout/skirmish/resource extractors, and the rest combat frigates.
(The 4,800kt total tender berth weight would mean there is spare capacity for the P ships and Scouts to be larger, utilising the capacity unneeded by the 700kt JAFFAs.
Tethers apparantly work as an aggregate weight, rather than each part equating to one berth slot, which is how the Harmony tenders have sooo many corvettes. I think Supply Distribution (top right) is the operating limit there.)

Yep, Flight Deck technology is (was?) coming in the next couple of years.

in 2 years if i remember the old R&D screen.

not sure when or if we will get that "upgrade" on our ships any time soon?

I think it's fairly unlikely to have been retrofitted in to the Excelsior-B refits, but perhaps the Ambassador-A.
Flight Deck is Explorer-only, expensive and high-crew to the point of being marginally cost effective. It's a part you'd use the wring the highest possible stats out of an already-maxed ship frame or berth size, so something you might choose to use on your best-of-the-best ships.

Edited to add:
While looking for some other stuff, I found That Time I Added A Flight Deck, for when you absolutely positively have to have an Excelsior-B that matches (or beats) an Ambassador: :V

It also beats it on SR cost... :) @Redhead222

At the Start of a new Journey
For the next phase of To Boldly Go as we work our way back in, we will be following a single starship. From the bridge of a starship you can see much ... yet much is also beyond your sight. The course of the crisis between the Federation and the Harmony of Horizon is formed of billions of stories woven together, yet you will only meet these strands as they cross your own. In such times as these the burden falls heavy on some, while others are passed over. For you, however, there will be no hiding from the ferocity of the days ahead.

[ ] USS Comet
Greased subspace lightning though the stars above, the Comet flies with purpose. Brainchild of both new and old Federation members, and herald of a new wave of shipbuilding, many hopes and dreams follow in its wake. Captain Victoria Villeneuve commands here, a veteran officer with a motivated crew. Near Harmony space, its great speed and sensor arrays make it useful for many unconventional purposes. Starfleet Intelligence has been in touch and there are many dangers yet to brave as you race the light of perilous stars.

[ ] CAS Riala
The mighty heart of the Amarkian fleet, the Riala and her sisters have been the bulwark of the Federation against the fire as much as the Explorer Corps has been the bulwark against the dark. Against the Biophage, in the Gabriel, through the winnowing of Hayant's dreadnoughts, before the twisted lights of Arcadian science, anywhere the battle rages, so too does Riala. Fresh from the yards with a new refit, the Riala returns prowling and roaring as she stands between the flock and the foe while the day fades and a shadow falls over the coreward sectors. When the heavy metal clashes, Riala will be there.

[ ] USS Avandar
Far away from the Coreward strife is a more familiar trouble. This border of the Federation abuts the Ashalla Pact, in its way a fear-riven mirror. But as Starfleet hedges its borders Coreward with light and truth the Cardassians see the steady weakening of the Spinwards Theatre Fleet as ships make the long voyage back across the the Apinae-Earth trunk. You will have to keep the border safe with less and less even as the Pact tests you ever further. The Avandar's captain is new, and the shoes left by their predecessors are large, but this ship and this crew are some of the finest. If anyone can lead the effort to protect the people on this frontier safe, it is you.

[ ] IGS Ada-Lodd
The Institutes of Gaen have played fast and loose with many rules and principles in the pursuit of science, and yet, there are limits. There are lines that burn vividly which must not be crossed, there are principles like granite that must not be sundered. Things sacred and inviolable even to a mind so fine-tuned to the siren song of reason. Friends in Starfleet start to whisper of the Harmony of mind-shackles and techno-zombies and other horrors like spectres out of the time before the fire. The Tech-Explorer Ada-Lodd draws near to the border to find and break the chains of code and pierce the veil.

[ ] Write in
Subject to veto, but may include non-Starfleet ships. Be sure you indicate where this ship is and what you hope it to be focusing on.

QM/N:
Please be aware that this is distinct from previous extended narrative periods with a single ship, like what happened with Zara and the Courageous. Time will be passing and events occurring with the rest of the galaxy largely abstracted.

However, this is only temporary. After this, we will be resuming as head of the Explorer Corps.

SCIENCE

e: Actually, this is also SCIENCE!

The bit about how there are lines the Gaeni do not cross, and how the Harmony has trampled all over that, sold me. Also I'm here for superscience nonsense.

[X] CAS Riala

All of these options would be interesting, but I'd honestly be very interested in seeing an Amarki crew and their different handling of the crisis from Starfleet.
