To expand slightly, the main shark has said that there have been some complications when streamlining the rules - details not provided, but my assumption is it was too easy to find ways to bend/break the rules.

The problem with TBG systems mostly isn't about bending/breaking the rules, but about escalating complexity that becomes more and more difficult to track and pull narratives from.

I've been working my way through the quest, but the Harmony are just, ugh. Do things ever get better, or do they just keep on winning everything forever?
As of when the thread went on Hiatus the Harmony keeps on winning and its the primary reason so many are getting sick of it and the salt continues to build over them.

The Harmony killed this quest. They lurk over its shambling corpse like a shadow of questionable writing choices and failed, hidden rolls, waiting to ensnare bright-eyed new questers.

This. Pretty much this. The Harmony killed this quest and most of us have moved on to another star trek quest on the site that just started up a while ago.

Honestly, if you so earnestly believe the quest is dead why are you even still here? It makes you look like a spite filled salt casket that doesn't know how to let go.

I presume it is From The Ashes, but I should warn you that that post is incorrect. The Harmony did not kill this quest and most of the player base has not moved over to that other quest. That other quest is set in a Star Trek setting, but feels more like Stellaris than Star Trek and doesn't stick to the themes of the show like To Boldly Go.

Edit: I like and enjoy From The Ashes, but it is a distinctly different creature to To Boldly Go despite also being set in the same Star Trek setting.

Yeah, I poked into From The Ashes, it's not particularly trek-y and it's not particularly populated with people from here.

I just had an interesting thought about Nash. We know she is an Admiral by this point and will probably be sent to the front. My question is would it be better to make her fleet admiral instead when the time comes? We role play as Starfleet CO. which is a rank I hope Nash gets one day. And having our blue Kirk Analogue as commanding Officer Starfleet would probably give us some big status buffs when the time comes.

Another question I have is about the crew from Kirks era Enterprise. Not counting the senior officers. How many are still in Starfleet?

I too have faith in the GMs to deal with matters and will patiently wait for them to get everything sorted out.

I regret to inform you that Admiral ka'Sharren has filed a notice that she will refuse promotions above the rank of Rear Admiral. While we kicked her up to Commodore over her objections, Vice Admiral and above is too competitive to ever force anyone who doesn't want to go.

Remember that the patient participants don't tend to write 'I trust the GMs and I'm patiently waiting'.

I'll chime in: I really like the idea of the HoH as the Fed's direct rival, and even if the mechanical game balance might have been rocky I vastly prefer an opponent who is a stiff challenge over one that we automatically defeat by default. I like to think of the HoH as a crisis situation moving at the Strategic timescale: Crisis situations are extremely dangerous and can cause huge losses, but they're also an integral part of the story.
