Section -1 noticing that Horizon's pet Acended Entity has tweaked the universal constants so that the principles behind shield strength being an exponenet of size as well as energy supply and had to go back to the big bang to ensure that the universe returned to normal?

Yeah, but the Rec Space is still restricted to 2260s yo-yos, checkers boards, playing cards, and pin the hat on the horta. Brave crew, to suffer so much.
But comrade, what true Yrillian could enjoy decadent 24th Century advances such as shipboard media libraries, music players and duotronic gaming while their oppressed Enlisted Redshirt Brigade comrades of the crushing Starfleet hierarchy suffered through another impenetrable game of 3D Chess, or shuffled the shipboard 2260s CardDeck?

No, we say. Solidarity! 2260s entertainments for all, until all Starfleet crew facilities are upgraded!

[Edit AN: The vast majority of Starfleets inventory 'features' these 2260s Recreation facilities- ones that would be familiar to Kirks original 5YM crew. This includes the brand-new Keplers and Comets...]

What's the reasoning for this IC? I can't think of one.
We know that Capitals and Cruisers often have more mass reserved for ancillary systems that don't necessarily rate parts in the editor. In addition, I sometimes see cruisers and capitals having more internal volume than frigates of equivilent weight -- in other words, a Kepler would be more compact than a Constellation.

As part of this, we can assume Capitals and Cruisers have more robust EPS power feeds, deeper and more effective heat reservoirs, and systems are possibly more open to maintenance. The field generators that actually power the shield emitters require heat dissipation, maintenance, and good power supply in order to effectively regenerate. With the larger heat dissipation capacity and better EPS taps, it is thus justifiable to say an Explorer would have better regeneration than a cruiser, which would in turn have better regeneration than a frigate.

I submit that there may be a reason for this. Remember who runs Utopia Planitia...

"Those rec rooms were wonderful places back in the day, and you whipper-snappers can learn to love them just like we did!"

"The original carpet was actually the highest-pile ever created by humans. It was prototyped first in 1983 by the CIA as part of a plot to assassinate Castro's vacuum. To this day, it has never been successfully deep-cleaned. You see why it had to be stripped out and replaced."

knowing some of the random crap the CIA has been known to do from time to time. that might even be a thing.

you would think there would be a general upgrade of things in the last 60 odd years.

We would, but all the fancy modern rec facilities that the xenopsychologists come up with are always just too big. Always. You would not believe how stubborn they are about it, and how it's always our fault that we never use their designs in our space-limited frigates. If only there was some way to convince them to make a Compact Recreation Facility...

But real talk, most higher and higher tech level parts are incremental small improvements, but they also come with increased costs like more crew or SR or power. And, importantly, every higher tech level of a part is bigger than the previous. The rec parts family is notorious for always taking way too much space to justify the increase to a ship's P score.

Of course, SWB used these same quirks of the ship designer to fit a tiny 2260s era backup computer into the Ambassador. Illustrated in an omake by Simon_Jester.

you think we just take the old ship add the 10%/20% extra space and have some more room.

but seeing i never really figured out how that ship builder tool worked i will not comment on it.

but again in the last 60 + years? no change to the rec room? you think someone at least would put in a new game or something maybe at least a new lick of paint

Well, there are Compact Rec suites, though it's only recently with the 2320s version that they're a net advantage over the old-school 2260s 3D chess sets and Formica tables.

The newer Rec is pretty power-hungry by comparison with the old ones, which makes sense when you think about it.

Still, no matter what any TOS old guard may think, Galan will not be specifying that creaky ancient Rec on any new designs, starting with the Envoy. 2320s modernity from now on!

Edit: the 2280s Rec on the Enterprise-C and Ambassador is pretty trippy, though:

Of Galans refit designs, the Envoy adds an Explorer-grade 2320s modern Recreation deck, as does the Excelsior-B and Ambassador-A. As do most Vanguard Rennie designs, so by the late 20s and early 30s things will be looking up.

His P13 Amby-A also features power cabling space sufficient for the anticipated future Holodeck technology, based on Gaeni projections of their... ah... experimental prototypes. I'm sure future Starfleet Holodecks will be perfectly safe and reliable with such an august lineage.

Huh, did not know that. 2260s Rec Space is a T-1, Medium scale part. A really small "medium" scale part. With our T1 and up parts, we have both Light and Medium rec space parts. I see you've penciled in the tech for T3 Rec spaces (2330s Affiliates Research) in for speculatively finishing in 2334. So, uh, nine more years? Eheh, um, the future... takes time? *ducks*

Would Heavy Rec Spaces make sense? If I'm reading the parts builder sheet correctly, Diplomatic parts are twice as effective as Recreation parts. So maybe not really that much...

Uuuuh, do your wiki omakes count as actual omakes? You've written more than a few of those by now.
