The Dreamers look very interesting, and they're only 125 points from affiliation...

We'll probably have to knife-fight the Harmony for them, because they're so cool, but that's a price I'm willing to pay.

Also, we are now definitely at war with the Vulcan Technocracy.

Y'know, what is it about the Federation that seems to make the godlike energy beings in every sector just act up like this? I bet the Cardassians never have to deal with giant green space hands manifesting behind their ships to give them morality tests.

Plasma-conjuring alien blood god is the one type of energy being that the cardies are actually better at dealing with.

Yea, but the Cardassian's would fail, there's no tension at all.

...So the meme that every single female character in this quest is homosexual is true?
Huh. Cool to know.

I've actually kinda gone out of my way to make sure that I write in Heterosexual female characters because I'm gay myself so I just automatically default to Lesbians > : V

But yeah, Zara is straight for her species/gender.

Not sure if the Harmony would want to deal with a species where people can just decide they're going to leave for the next system over and you can't stop them without a warship group.

Most forms of social control don't work on people who can just decide they're going to move to that nice asteroid belt around that red dwarf over there without needing any sort of technological assistance.

Nah, with this kind of wonky energy being, apply Kaldar II to the problem is a perfectly good solution.

They'd have passed this event just fine. This was a hidden message plus combat problem.

We shouldn't count the Solarian forces out yet. They should have been transported into the future along with the Technocratic fleet.

Oh, and the original Solarian revolt was 2269. James T. Kirk's five year mission was from 2265-2270 in our universe.

Wanna bet who the leader of the rebellion is? The one who took an entire fleet with him when he went down?

I am HYPE.

This is going to be a really difficult wing of Starfleet Academy to open.

And the Gaeni/Orion cybernetics teams are going to be like "you want us to make cybernetic implants of an entire M/AM power system because WHAT".

Given how screwed up time in that area is, a possible outcome would be the Solarians having their whole solar system transported fifty years forward into the "present." Which would be an interesting dilemma for both the Romulan Republic and the Vulcan Technocracy and probably reignite a general war with the ISC seizing the chance to press the attack.

At the moment we are communicating with them using a team of a (humanoid) dreamer and a Vulcan in a mindmeld or a strong Betazoid telepath to run the technical end of the communications equipment. The pair have to really bond closely and almost lose all the boundaries between thoughts to communicate properly.

And which position would you give the starship cadets?
They have a humanoid form, apparently. We'd have to develop better ways to communicate but I think it's doable. Perhaps not as starship crew but easily enough in other positions.

e: eh, apparently not. Dreamer vs dreamer.

They seem ideally suited to internal exploration of the Federation. We'll just say they're in the runabout service and send them out in small teams, maybe with a Miranda to keep them company. (Finally, a role for which Mirandas are suited!)

Another alternate approach is that we'll end up designing what amounts to starship-sized powered armor.

I took the (humaniod) bit to indicate that it was a humaniod who was dreaming, in order to distinguish them from the Dreamers.

They're a bit big to be counted as runabouts.

That confuses me - aren't the Dreamer's the cosmozoa? How do I have to imagine this humanoid dreamer? Starship-sized? Avatar? Have I completely misunderstood the description?

Sorry, on the Starfleet side there are two people: A person with above average Esper rating sleeping and dreaming while psychically linked to someone awake. The waking person can intemperate the Electromagnetic and Subspace communications and the Sleeping person interprets the psychic communications.

Um.... It's like a Deaf person and a blind person watching a movie together. But mentally linked to try to get the whole picture.

It's an ugly and complicated kludge. But hey, it's a First Contact, we'll work things out later (Maybe)

Thanks. The confusion stems from Dreamer == cosmozoa and dreamer == part of contact pair.
Thanks for clarifying.

It's more about finding a place where they'd fit properly inside the existing personnel scheme. If we classify a group as runabout crew, it's a starship assignment, gives them a relative freedom of movement, and keeps the group together administratively and in practice. This way they don't get lonely or disappear into the darkness never to be heard from again if something goes wrong.

They're not actually runabout crew, it's just the closest-shaped hole for the peg.

@OneirosTheWriter , @AKuz would it be acceptable to call a state of emergency and call for every ship within a day's travel of Sol to get over there?

I mean, there's a clear and present danger to the Federation Council and Capital, the worst the president can do is give us a stern talking-to. Right?

Um, I'd wait for the next update or two first.

Or create some new hole. Because our current structure simply doesn't take into account sentient starships. Also, curriculum would have to be adapted, role in Starfleet (explorer?) etc.
But - first FDS, then Starfleet reorg I think?
