Super Robot Quest

He saw his scientists who upon hearing of the possibility of this new focus had abandoned their dark labs and come into the light of day to beseech his approval.
I want to make a joke about the minimum level of light on a workplace according to OSHA regulations. I'm not sure people will recognize it as a joke.

Just an FYI, I do provide an alternative when I can, just that vote cycles usually leaves us with the planning vote happening(and at least 4 times a week it closes before I even see it) while I'm commuting to or from work, or while I sleep. Alectai usually has plans which I agree 80% with so theres not exactly going to mold it in His Image. You see a few regulars dominate resource managing plan votes for this reason: too many possible options to pick out good ones reliably

Also I'm like *the* person with the most namevoting going on via sheer subforum volume of presence, so my talking about namevoting is a little hypocritical :p
To all points in this post: I feel you, man.

CRX-46 "Thunder"
Purpose: Aerial Assault Craft
Vehicle Form: Heavily Modified Gunship (Why yes, I am using the Skyranger as a visual reference)

I hope this doesn't increase the lethality of our operatives. Also, everyone went full ham.

TL;DR: Alteisen got a Brave Saga overhaul.

Along with multiple pilots for better coordination, unless it's a very big, bulky mech for a single pilot.

So I'm guessing it's Super Robot name is going to be Thor? I don't know any thunder based mythological heroes besides him.

Obviously, we gotta go with Zeus. We already have a "Jupiter's Fury", so it should follow.

Warning: I have no idea what the letters are supposed to stand for.

CRX-47 "Fireball"
Purpose: Aerial Assault Craft
Vehicle Form: {Imagine an Osprey-ish thing, but with jet engines instead of propellers, four of them instead of two, some guns on foldable mounts, and a pair of claws}
Alt Form: {It's complicated}

Summary: One of the concepts that came up while brainstorming the Thunder, but taken in a somewhat unexpected direction. The Fireball is an example - and, perhaps, a trailblazer - of a Flexible Profile Vehicle. Instead of switching between two stable forms, it has a single stable "storage" form. The Fireball is designed to operate in what can be more accurately described as "dynamic state", which looks like it was switching from one form to another, but got distracted half-way.

Functionally, it operates in a way similar to the Thunder, it's sibling project - aerial superiority through high mobility and firepower, potential for bursts of speed and ovewhelming melee attacks. But instead of switching between "modes", the Fireball can bring all of it's advantages to bear simultaneously. As a drawback, all the moving parts make it quite fragile. Seeing as armour would be of little help, the Engineers decided to discard it entirely, which only improved the speed and maneuverability of the unit. It did not, however, become any cheaper - again, all the moving parts have a lot to do with it.

Long-term, one potential problem with Fireball might be in finding and/or training pilots for it, because it operates in a very unconventional way. The MMI should alleviate this problem, but to what degree is impossible to predict without test runs. The Engineers estimate that a working Energy weapon would improve the "gun-to-mass ratio", and getting rid of ammo feeds would free up space for more armament (or auxiliary systems). Moreover, the Fireball already has an ability to point any of it's weapons (including claws) in any direction at any given time. With proper pilot skill it would be able to execute the "Alpha Strike" that Warlord's Pilum demonstrated, and a sufficient power supply (or a different solution) would get rid of the following freeze-up. And lastly, augmenting the claws with the energy shield has a potential to greatly impove the Fireball's defence - as already mentioned, it can point it's claws in virtually any direction.

-=-=-=-=-

I wanted to name this "Lightning" or "Thunderball", but decided to avoid confusion. Also, if people are really determined to call something after a thundergod, consider "Perkele".

I'm in the mood of making my own airship, like the others have done. Gentlemen, behold!

CRX-626 "Chariot"
Purpose: High-performance Dropship Craft
Vehicle Form: Something like this
Alt Form: (special) Impromptu Fighter-Bomber.

Summary: One of the concepts that came up while modifying the Stork Dropship, this ship is meant to take a multitude of roles for what Henry called "the ultimate transport-bomber-fighter": From infantry, vehicles and even fellow airships, to harassment of enemy positions and, lastly but not least, a mobile artillery piece.

The advancement of Anti-Gravity, K-Systems and Ziridium technologies allowed such a heavy ship to move way faster than it should, for not to mention be capable of carrying engines usually designed for space shuttles, enabling maximal speed at the cost of slow acceleration during start-up. The engines are full VTOL capable and allow perfect 3D movement from the air. The ship is also covered with an anti-radar pattern design based from stealth air-bombers that theoretically makes it invisible to most artificial detection methods before it's too late. The Chariot uses this functionality to both carry troops in any engagement, retrieve them by turbo-enhanced magnetic grapnel cables and and perhaps drop its own load of explosives before flying off to the next engagement. Weapons-wise, the Chariot carries a trio of experimental laser cannons, that while too bulky to be used by mecha-vehicles, the dropship is more than capable of using with minimal issues thanks to its large reactor and cooling systems.

Finally, if all else fails, or special measures are needed to ensure the success of the operation, the Chariot has a final, deadly surprise: Activating the revolutionary process that the Duo called ECS (Emergency Configuration System), the Chariot deploys specially prepared shaped-charges to detonate its primary fusion engines, most of its weaponry and Ziridium armor in a brutal cloud of shrapnel and chaff countermeasures. From the smoking remains of the Chariot, a smaller, sleeker ship arises like a mechanical phoenix bird. This is the alternate mode of the Chariot, a small fighter-bomber ship armed with twin rapid-fire machineguns and a moderate payload of the freshly developed Avenger missiles: a new projectile weapon based on the traditional Hellfire series, but replacing the conventional explosive warhead with a Kausen-based energy battery, causing a beautiful-yet-lethal explosion of light and antimatter.

The Duo predict that while the ship is a bit fragile on the side, too demanding maintenance-wise and way too complex to be mass-produced, the Chariot should be more than enough to make the Stork-class obsolete, especially once newer technologies are implemented to further improve the Chariot's cutting-edge design. At the moment though the two say the ship is still to be proven, but the virtual tests are promising so far.

Turn Six, Year Two: Prep for Changes

Command Center

"Let it show for the record," you say as formally as you can, "that I, Major Johnathan Devin, as appointed by the Office of the Earth Union's First Minister and all subordinate agencies, formally welcome Galbinus Regulus, commanding officer of the Legio Galbinus, assembled representative command of the Dominion of Mekaen - " Good lord, this was a word salad. The sentence wasn't even finished yet! You take a quick breath before continuing, " - and state that, having fulfilled our original treaty obligations, look forward to future cooperative endeavors and warm relations with our new neighbors."

"And I, Galbinus Regulus," the Kaus says in response, "do hereby acknowledge the fulfillment of our original agreements, and pledge support to bringing the Kausen criminals known as the 'Free Brothers' as led by Tyrannous, to account for crimes committed against both the Dominion of Mekaen and the Earth Union. So it shall be."

There is a moment of silence before Katarina breaks the silence. "And...notarized and sent!" she declares cheerfully. "Welcome, mister Galbinus! We look forward to working with you!"

"Er, yes." The sheer cheerful energy of Katarina seems to have taken Galbinus off guard for a moment. "I look forward to working with you all, miss."

With that out of the way, the assembled parties from both groups disperse and intermingle. Unsurprisingly, the majority of the Kausen have to waltz around in the maintenance areas below, the only space big enough for them to walk around in. But compensating for that, you and your staff were all along the catwalks lining the edges of the maintenance bay, so it wasn't too much of a stretch for you to be speaking with any of them.

Galbinus still is taller than you here; he has to angle his face slightly downwards in order to directly speak with you.

"Well, looks like the representatives are trying to get a word with you," you say with a sardonic grin as you see men and women in official-looking suits making their way towards you and Galbinus. You see Anna leading them, and she gives you a sort of resigned look. You just shrug back and turn your attention back to Galbinus.

"Of course," he sighs wearily. "Likely they will push for promises I cannot hope to make as a military representative."

"Hey, cheer up," you assure him. "All you have to do is just promise you'll convey their proposals at the first opportunity you get, and they should leave you alone. I think." You pause to think about it. "It's not like your Council of Elders has to agree to any of it."

"I suppose not," Galbinus says thoughtfully. "Still." He turns his attention towards you, and for a moment you're bathed in the yellow light of his optics. "You have my thanks. Tyrannous no longer knows where we are located, and soon, we can begin striking back at him. You have made our task much easier."

"Hey, as long as you're taking it to the Free Brothers, works for me," you shrug. "Besides, I'd like to think that someone would help me out if I were in your situation."

He offers a slight smile before steeling himself to face the diplomats. You don't envy him this part, but like you said, he doesn't have to make binding promises yet.

Resource Point Income: 15 RP + 2 RP (Landing Pad Bonus) - 4 RP (Upgraded Radar Tower, Dropship, The Shield Wall, Dispersion Field) = 13 RP Total

'Katarina's Support!' – You may add +1d6 to one Action ONCE THIS TURN. Refreshes for next turn!

Special Actions

Diplomacy - With the Legion now your neighbors, it's going to be a continuous effort to maintain good relations with them. That's easy enough right now, considering you've given them a much more secure base to operate out of. But still a good idea to keep them on their good sides. Anna has some ideas to run by you on that front.
-[] FREE ACTION thanks to @HeavyBane - Imitation is the Best Form... - Apparently your debut of the Phalanx chassis had an audience with the advance party of Cavalier, Patch and Architect. That doesn't surprise or concern you.

What does surprise you? Patch and Architect, already at work modifying more of the Legion to be configuration friendly, have offered to try modifying a vehicle for you. This is not entirely altruistic, as Patch openly admits he's wanting to get additional practice in smoothening the procedure from Kaus physiology to human-based vehicle designs, but who are you to turn down free help?

It suddenly makes more sense when you find that this is going to be the "Alternate Mode" (or alt-mode as Cavalier puts it) for Galbinus himself. Wilde, Henry, Ignatov and Katarina have already volunteered to join in on this one.

Cost: Free
Duration: 1 Turn
Rolling for new design (2d6, Threshold of 5-6)
Will determine the form of Galbinus-R, will improve relations, will gain new configuration design for DFRI use

-[] What is Gattai? Why does your pilot keep saying that? - You aren't surprised that additional details about the Timberwolf and the Foxhound have already filtered back to Galbinus. But he's approached you with a surprise offer: could you modify several Legionnaires to conduct combining configuration?

He understands this is asking quite a bit out of you, but he's willing to compensate you for your assistance.

Cost: 3 RP (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 3 Turns
Chance for Breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 5-6)
Chance to gain bonus to future Combination experiments. Gain greater relations with Legion. Will be able to call upon Legionnaire Combiner on occasion for reinforcements. Will gain Temporary RP income for the next four turns

Fact Hunt - With Anna Smith from the Intelligence Services on hand, you now have a lot more resources to keep tabs on the rest of the world in case you might become involved. She has taken Wallflower, Rotterdam and Rockefeller under her wing, and is ready to send them out again to liaise with other Intelligence Service agents. She just needs the resources to do so. If you go with this, choose one. If you choose this, this action will be locked until one queued Fact Hunt finishes.
-[] The Yukimura Institute - Besides the K-Class Materials (which you're keeping under wraps), you haven't had much to do with the Kaiju yet. Now that you have the Intelligence Services' backing, it might do to send Wallflower to the Yukimura Institute directly. See what he can learn and find out about how they do business, particularly with the Black Guardian of the North.

Cost: 1 RP (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 2 Turns

-[] Internal Politicking - You yourself always try to stay away from politics, but this is a job that is not giving you that luxury. You at least want to send someone out there to see what people are making out of all of this. Anna is more than happy to assist you in this regard, this being her job and all.

Cost: 1 RP (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 2 Turns

Defense Force Actions

Diana, Creative - You may reduce the Success Threshold of any one Defense Force Action by -1.

Upgraded Radar Tower – BG Peters has no complaints against you and Sasaki wanting even greater radar coverage. Not only would this provide greater local radar coverage, this would allow you to tap further into the EUDF Global Network. This is more expensive than the Outposts, but also allows you to see much farther than your local area.

Cost: 1 RP Locked
Duration: 1 Turn
Progress to Security Net, Greater Local Security, Greater Awareness of Global Threats

Aviation - Go full ham on it - You expected Wilde and Henry to make a passionate plea about making something new. You were not expecting your entire staff (AI included!) to make a pitch for building something brand new from the ground up. No one knows how this is going to turn out, but this is an all-hands-on-deck project if you authorize this. What will it be able to do? Who the heck knows?

But when you have this many experts converging on a project like this...

Cost: 1 RP Locked
Duration: 1 Turn
Gain new class of dropship
- ???
- It could be good. You just don't know.

[] A Helping Hand - The sappers know the drill by now. If you can spare some resources, you can speed up the construction of an ongoing or new build project.

Cost: 2 RP (One Time Investment)
Duration: 1 Turns
Reduces Turn Duration of one construction project by One Turn. Cannot be reduced below One Turn.

Pilot Training – It's becoming more imperative to start training and grooming new talent to take to the field ahead of any new machines we make. There's undoubtedly more talent that you haven't tapped into. Thanks to Sam and the Duo's efforts, you have a pretty reliable way of finding and training new talent. Best get to it!
-[] Pilot Training – Find New Talent – You have an entire base of personnel to tap into, all with varying abilities and psychic potential. The option remains to find new talent, but you'll have to invest into actively searching.

Cost: 1 RP (One Time Investment)
Duration: 1 Turn
Chance to find new pilots (2d6, Threshold of 5-6)

-[] Pilot Training - Callaghan - Richard Callaghan is the most seasoned pilot you have, but even an old dog can learn new tricks. If you set aside some time and resources, Cavalier is more than willing to run some more training with him. Callaghan is sure to benefit from the wily scout's training.

Cost: 2 RP (One Time Investment)
Duration: 1 Turn
Chance to gain and increase combat stats (2d6, Threshold of 4-6)

Muster for Battle - You've recently produced several brand new designs. Now is a good time to decide if you want to invest in converting an existing formation to use them. This would be a great field test of their capabilities, and would give your supporting units a nice booster shot to the arm. You already have pre-existing squadrons, so conversion would only take about a month. If you decide to do this, choose one.

Either action will Cost: 2 RP (One Time Investment)
Duration: 1 Turn
[]Convert a formation into Mechanized, CR-04 Phalanx.

- Conventional Weapons: Can Strike at Disadvantage, 1d6, Threshold of 5-6. Can inflict 2 HP per Strike. Can Strike every turn.

- Heavy Weapons: Can make a Heavy Weapon Strike at Advantage every four turns. Currently can only deploy Conventional Heavy Weapons (3d6, Threshold of 5-6, Inflicts 2 HP). Counts as the Phalanx's Action. Can be upgraded in future turns.

- Shield Wall: Can choose to absorb an incoming Strike for an allied Support unit. Will absorb -1 of the original Strike, but damage effects of The Backup will take effect. Roll 1d6, Threshold of 4-6. Can be upgraded in future turns.

- The Backup: Can be targeted by enemies to delay Conventional Weapons Strike. If Enemy successfully hits, Phalanx Squadron refresh is delayed by One Turn. When facing multiple enemies, Conventional Weapons may be used every turn instead of every other turn.

[]Convert a Reconnaissance formation to using CR-03 Steed

- Conventional Weapons: Can Strike at Disadvantage Three Times in One Turn, 1d6, Threshold of 4-6. Can inflict 1 HP per Strike. Can Strike every other turn. Can target multiple targets if desired.

- Agile: May re-roll a successful enemy attack at 2d6 (Threshold of 4-6).

- Distraction: CR-03 Steed can force enemies to re-roll a successful Action. Can be used once every four turns.

- The Backup: Can be targeted by enemies to delay Conventional Weapons Strike. If Enemy successfully hits, Phalanx Squadron refresh is delayed by One Turn. When facing multiple enemies, Conventional Weapons may be used every turn instead of every other turn.

Engineering Actions

K-Circuitry - The Phalanx shows that the K-Circuitry enables much more power and reaction time from pilots enabled with it. However, the Phalanx needs that extra power to simply move normally (even if it still hits really hard). What would happen if you put that into the Beowulf and its Formation components?

Wilde and Henry's answer: "Let's find out!"

Duration: 2 Turns
Chance to increase basic combat stats of the Beowulf and Formation modes (2d6, Threshold of 5-6)

The Shield Wall - The Perseus has all manners of avenues to approach for a combined form. Tooling it into a Core unit is not the issue: finding something suitable for combining with it is. Henry is recommending something heavier, while Wilde is suggesting something you already have on hand that's lighter. However you go about it, Katarina takes the time to remind everyone that new technologies are available to help make either method a bit more viable.

Cost: 1 RP Locked
Duration: 1 Turn
Chance for Breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 5-6)
Insights into what is required for Phalanx Combine Formations

Functional Supplemental Development - The fragments are smart enough to fill in the blanks given enough hints. Katarina suggests placing the AI in areas where it can observe where you want it to work. The likeliest candidate right now is the Engineering Bay, but that can be changed if you wish.

Cost: 1 RP Locked
Duration: 1 Turn
Will gain new AI Supercomputer Personality, Will be slotted as an Adviser Personality. Rolling this turn for personality.

[] K-Class Materials Experiments - This Hand of Mine... - The Blazing Fist on the Timberwolf Formation is potent. But Wilde and Henry think they can make it even moredestructive. Who are you to say no to that?

Cost: 2 RP (One Time Investment)
Duration: 1 Turn
Chance to greatly increase Blazing Fist's capabilities (2d6, Threshold of 4-6)

Configuration - You have new options to pursue, and not a whole lot of time or resources to pursue them. You get the feeling the upcoming months are going to be full of changes, so perhaps now would be a good time to get some projects out of the way.
-[] With Our Powers Combined... - So the Psychic Theater works. At least it does in a controlled environment. But what about in practice? Wilde and Henry are a bit skeptical, especially since the main best examples - the Timberwolf and the Foxhound - aren't exactly co-pilot friendly. But they're willing to give it a go.

Callaghan's involvement was a no-brainer, but Satsuma has also volunteered to see if this is viable.

Cost: 2 RP (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 2 Turns
Test to see the effects of Psychic Theater outside of the laboratory
Will modify vehicles for ease of co-pilot use
Gain bonuses to Combining Configuration

-[] Combinations for the Steed - the Steed is early power armor at best. But Wilde and Henry are wondering if it can be configured to combine into even bigger power armor with another vehicle. This is a relatively light project.

Cost: 2 RP (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 3 Turns

-[] Triple Change - You still wonder if there's at least one more configuration for the V-33 you can squeeze in. Wilde and Henry aren't promising anything, but they agree it's worth a look.

Cost: 2 RP (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 2 Turns

-[] Reforging the Shattered Spear - Due to the...mishap with the chemical composition of the Pilum's remains, this is easily going to be the most expensive project to re-initiate. At the rate it's going, it's actually just slightly less expensive than the damned dropship! But this promises to easily be one of the most potent projects you get your hands on, and you'll be able to produce your own versions of it! Like hell you're letting anyone else get their hands on it though.

Said chemical composition is also still there. Wilde and Henry want to know what the hell was coating this thing, and why it initiated a response now.

Cost: 3 RP due to incident (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 3
Reconstruct the Pilum

Science Actions

Calm - Ivanna's help enables you to re-roll one failed Science Action Test this turn.

Sam and Max take you aside to tell you that with all the new changes coming down the pipe in a few months, they're putting their projects on hold until the current inbox is cleared out. "If we're going to do this," Max says, "Better to start fresh."

Sam just sort of shrugged, but he more or less agreed.

Dispersion Field Plans – "It's a damned force field!" At least that's what you think you heard Max cackle. You're not sure. You just know that Galbinus told you it's not a complete set of the plans. It's just as much of the plans that some former shield engineers in the Legion scribed down from memory. On the plus side, it means you can create something uniquely yours.

Duration: 2 Turns
Chance for Breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 5-6)
Progress in Xenotechnology, New Combat Options

Kaiju Biotechnology - Your Sunday Best - K-Scale in miniature? This looks promising to look into! This has the potential for both mass distribution within the wider EUDF, but also has the potential to become new material for your pilots. That, and Sam is wondering at the fact that signals between the K-Scale and the MMI continue to bounce off each other. He thinks he can make use of this.

That said, better get started with it now before the changes Peters was talking about get a chance to stick their oars in.

Cost: 2 RP (One Time Investment)
Duration: 1 Turn
Chance for Breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 5-6)
Progress in Kaiju Biotechnology

Well hopefully the over stuffy diplomatic stuff is out of the way now.

Do want to see what configurations our new allies can give us since might just do half the work for us.

I made my ship in a hurry and it shows. Now that I have time, I edited it, changing it quite heavily. Please check it everyone, as it's way better than before, I hope.

Galbinus still is taller than you here; he has to angle his face slightly downwards in order to directly speak with you.

Jeez, how tall is this guy?

"It's not like your Council of Elders has to agree to any of it."

Lol, do they have that, or was Devin guessing? Also, are there actual female Kausen? So far it seems they're asexual mechs like the Transformers, but they're capable of recognizing the female AIs.

Seeing that they do have alternate modes of their own, especially with use of words like "warform", I think they're mooching us a bit of our goodwill.

[] What is Gattai? Why does your pilot keep saying that? - You aren't surprised that additional details about the Timberwolf and the Foxhound have already filtered back to Galbinus. But he's approached you with a surprise offer: could you modify several Legionnaires to conduct combining configuration?

Now that's surprising, considering it should be quite an awkward and unintentionally intimate experience for the involved Kausen.

Nevertheless the temporary resources are worth it.

[] The Yukimura Institute - Besides the K-Class Materials (which you're keeping under wraps), you haven't had much to do with the Kaiju yet. Now that you have the Intelligence Services' backing, it might do to send Wallflower to the Yukimura Institute directly. See what he can learn and find out about how they do business, particularly with the Black Guardian of the North.

A must.

What happened with the AI pilots?

[]Convert a Reconnaissance formation to using CR-03 Steed

Another must-have.

Interesting. Hopefully they don't have Pacific Rim-style test failures.
We also need to acquire a tank somehow for combination stuff.

The last must-have option and the only available SCIENCE! one, appropriately.

Not sure what to vote yet.

Huh, we can't study Shard construction anymore @Basarin ?

Ah well.

Let me take a look at the current plans and see if all's well with them.

Yeah, I did miss it. D'oh.

Go ahead and throw that in there anyhow. I'm just not in a good position to edit that right now.

Sorry all!

Oh yeah, by the way, what happened to the Potentially Magical-Girl-Transformation Trinket? It's not in the Locked Projects anymore. If the resolution was posted somewhere, I missed it.

It's sitting atop a cafeteria enterence alternating between scanning itself and performing repairs or something like that. We don't know because we can't connect to it and vice-versa...
Though I must say Tellison pinging it one day sounds hilarious, especially if he ends up in a frilly skirt.

Okay, in the interest of not throwing the current votes out of balance, I'll have something for energy shards next turn. I just can't do anything now since work decided to have everything happen all at once today.
