Hey can we share dispersion tech with the legion once its finished ?
I think they already try to complete it, i would rather they spend their ressources on fighting the brothers instead.

Might be able to set it up as another Tech Trade. I think there were some items from the last time we didn't grab.

Edit: Double checking it looks like the only initial goody was Energy Weapon samples, which honestly would be pretty nice. Would love for Ichiro to have a gun that could be fired regularly rather than once every 3 turns. Plus I remember that Beowulf's energy gun was pretty effective against the Kaiju.

You know how in Standard Fantasy Isekai the Princess (or the King) summons a hero to help them out against the Armies of Darkness? You probably do. Isekai is everywhere nowadays.

"What does it have to do with Super Robots?", you ask? Well, today I found out that there is a manga (series of one-page shorts) about a Princess who ends up summoning a "Brave" hero. A "Yuusha", if that tells you anything. Or, if you are like me and the words "Brave Series" only make you think "It's probably anime" - it's like a Handsome Japanese Transformer.

It's called "Isekai Yuusha G-SHINE", and you'll probably be able to finish the whole story (as of October 2020) within two lunch-breaks. Or even less.

Aaanyway, that was wildly off-topic. Now, about this quest. Have y'all readers decided what options are you going to vote for? Long-Term-ish. No, wait, let me ask it like that: have you thought about what kind of robots do you most want DFRI to field? Lots of various frames would mean more potential disadvantages would be avoided, or at least covered, and more enemy advantages would be countered. But I assume we're going to encounter more options than opportunities to pursue them, which would mean the units themselves would be less strong. How do you see the DFRI on the flexible vs powerful scale? It's possible to achieve flexibility by developing different "mission kits", and then tacticool (is it a verb?) the units for different circumstances. But each new unit would move DFRI towards the "more flexible" side. Or rather, it should, because I don't expect any of you to be excited about new units that are basically identical to some old one. How wide a roster would you want to see? Also, DFRI's agenda seems to be firmly rooted around transformation, and lately combination. Most other branches of mad science only seem to lead to better units and equipment - so far, at least. There's the deal with the Regent, but I'm not sure if it counts as "mad" science; also, a "mobile base" seems to be steadily becoming another key element. What other directions would you want to pursue? Or would you like to refine some existing ones? If so, to what state? I mean, going in without a plan and just voting for the options that seem the most interesting (or the most efficient) at the time - well, it's fun enough. I've played a few videogames myself in this manner. It's just that lately, I'm getting a feeling that a more concentrated fun would require some plannng.

TL;DR: What is YOUR preferred image of DFRI?

In my case, I'd like to focus on some better guns, and indeed the "mission packs". Like those Aestivalis configurations from Nadesico, and I think Gundam SEED units from SRW J also could do that. If those "mission packs" are themselves robots/vehicles and combine with the core - that is acceptable, but not a goal in itself. I have a feeling that DFRI won't stop experimenting with new frames, so I'm curious about developing a means to switch AI pilots between units, just to test out those new frames sometimes. The roster is fine as it is, but I guess one more pilot (AI or not) would be okay. Mostly because my one big wish is to create a unit which is at least in part organic. So there's gotta be at least one character assigned to it.

I don't really have one.

I think we should field whatever we can to try to counter and defeat our enemies, while keeping up with our promises and responsibilities.

I honestly genuinely deeply enjoy the SRW vibes of "throw whatever works together, yes I know we're cribbing from multiple series here deal with it".

Plus, like, the general SRWness of it all.

Supercharged Beowulf for the Season/Series Finale. Then right at the end, as Beowulf and Rich strike the Final Blow against the Enemy Super Robot, Beowulf will speak as his frame begins to disintegrate from the stress and Damage from the battle.

Alternatively that happens in the Movie.

The DFRI seems to deal with ALL sorts of baddies, from kaiju, to alien robots, to Mad Max-style post-apoc mechs.

While it goes without saying that each of those baddie types have their own protagonist team handling the issues most of the time (Mercury, Legio Galbinus, Valiant), they can't be everywhere at once, as shown in the aircraft carrier mission.

So I was thinking the DFRI should probably prioritize mobility and adaptability for the moment. To take down those who dare destroy the Union's peace, no matter what form they come in.

Once more hopefully-friendly Super Robot teams come online, we can probably change from a "reactionary" stance to a more "proactive" stance, by developing specialized units for fighting specific enemies. Until then, we'll have to meet the demands needed of us.

For now, take screenshots of Valiant's playbook and rely on combiners and "mission packs" to match/overwhelm the enemy.

tl;dr - our mechanized fists change depending on the face that needs to be punched in

We could create an entirely melee-focused mech and call it the Grendel, or maybe the up-and-coming team could call their first Super Robot that as a friendly rivalry sort of thing

"What do you mean the Bismarck is gone!?"

Ichiro sighed. Be careful what you wish for, huh?

[/hr

We're definitely fighting the Bismarck.
*Savage Grin*

Yyyyeeeesssss.

There's only one song to go with this scenario, boys and girls!

There is only one solution.

Dice rolls will take place this week all. I'm sorry for the delay - work and life in general have been stressing me out something fierce.

As an apology, new art that I've commissioned is coming up soon! I'll post a link when they're ready.

Perseus / Valkyrie / Tyrannous
With the dice post coming tomorrow due to events beyond my control today, the most I can offer you all is the new artwork - better to give you all this rather than nothing at all for the foreseeable future.

As a disclaimer, these bits of art do not have their alt modes for this batch. Sorry in advance!

So let's start with the Perseus.

As a reminder, this is the Super Robot core piloted by Tellison and Zhang, with the new SAI siblings assigned as the support arm. Already based off of an armored vehicle (like, say, an MRAP or Bradley APC), and since the naming schema already leaned towards Greco-Roman myth, I had the artist go with that theme.

Next up, we have the Valkyrie - or Thunder, depending on what you all actually decide upon.

This was based on the salvaged Pilum frame after the defeat of the Westphalian operative, "Warlord." The original Pilum frame was a heavily modified helicopter gunship, which then was somewhat restored by Wilde and Henry to resemble something like a lighter version of the XCOM Skyranger dropship. Right now it's in its 'factory default' colors, but in story that will change.

Finally, the last bit of artwork I had commissioned is one of the larger looming figures in the Free Brothers. Meet Tyrannous.

The Pilum, for quick reference, I always envisioned in my head as a sort of powered up Hind-D. And since Bandit was able to secure an intact model spare from PJH, Tyrannous adopted it as his Configuration alt-mode. The body frame and structure is specifically based off of Star Saber from Transformers Victory, just as Megatron is the inspiration for Galbinus himself.

I hope this tides you all over for now. Stay tuned, and I hope everyone's had a safe week!

Definitely not inspired by Shattered Glass.
Really.
Edit: Yes, I am aware of earlier discussions on Shattered Glass. This is a joke.

Looking at the picture of the Mecha version of the Pilum makes me think of a warrior at battle ready. So I will vote for Valkyrie when the time comes. It fits that Mech.

:p I make no apologies for ANY love of mirror universes I have. ^_^

Awesome art! I hate how cool and heroic looking Tyrannous looks though. :p

Thanks! Though I did ask the artist to try and make the stance as 'bad guy' as he could while sticking to traditional box art cover styles.

(Fun story, actually - there was a fan project that predated Shattered Glass's take on flipped moralities in the TF universe. This is where I picked up the idea of maintaining the original color schemes - Optimus Prime there maintained his usual appearance, but was an out and out cold murderer and torturer. I think TV Tropes had a link to it at one point, though you have to check with the internet archive pages to find it at this point. Sadly incomplete.)

Tyrannous had a deal where he'd swap his colors with Galvinous, thinking he could get his story out to the humans first.
The drone who 'suggested' this deal has been recycled.

Tyrannous, whilst holding a Drone's severed head: Alas, poor Drone 548_A! I knew him not, Rangefinder: a fellow of questionable notability, of most unremarkable fancy.
No I don't know why I included this in here either.

Battling the Brute! - Rounds 7-9 Rolls
Targeting priority remains unchanged: take down the tank mobiles first, but use heavy weapons against the brute.
Ichiro should use rage at the same time as the Steeds use flares to distract the Brute, so that the Brute does not target Ichiro while rage is active
Anna's orders remain unchanged.
Ichiro to take down the Walkers and Tank Mobiles first, but save the Arm Cannon to use against "The Brute" when possible. Use Shard Kits at Ichiro's discretion.
Anna saves Call out to use against "The Brute", saves Linked Telemetry for whatever appears to be The Brute's strongest attack.
Steeds focus on lesser enemies (Walkers first, then tank-mobiles). Use Flares when the reinforcing Tank mobiles use their disposable rocket launchers. Once Tank Mobile's Disposable Rockets are used up, use Flares on the Brute whenever it is not affected by Anna's Call out.

DFRI + Allies roll: 3+6!

Westphalian Forces roll: 2+3!

DFRI wins the initiative!

Valiant immediately springs into action! Strikes at Tank-Mobiles w/Blade!
Rolls: 3+2. Fails.
Notable applies! Rolls again: 4+5!
1 HP inflicted on Tank-Mobiles.

Ichiro follows suit (even as in narrative terms, the Brute is giving both him and Valiant its full attention).
Rolls: 3+6.
Inflicts 1+1 HP on Tank-Mobile! Follows up again due to Notable (he's more than a little tired of these things, and likely going to demand his dad commander gives him additional upgrades when he gets home).
Rolls: 3+5!
Inflicts another 1+1 HP. It's enough to scrap them - Tank-Mobiles taken down!

Steeds immediately start harassing the Brute (but keeping a safe distance - that thing is awfully stompy).
Rolls: 2, 6, 4! Two successes - but Scrap Armor triggers, negating damage!
Anna's Analysis: Estimates the scrap armor can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hits before wearing off for the Round...

The Brute: Oi, Bruce! It's Valiant - get 'em!
Rocket Klaw Away! Rolling at 2d6 (is still under Call Out until end of Round Seven).
Rolls: 4+6!

Hits! Valiant rolls for Agile.
Rolls: 6+6!
Erika: Not today either, Bruce!

The Brute follows up at Disadvantage (cannot go lower than 1d6 in this instance).
Rolls: 6!

Valiant rolls for Agile again (Diminishing Returns apply).
Rolls: 3+6!
No damage taken.

Valiant jumps onto the Brute to cut away at whatever looks important!
Rolls: 1+6!
Hits - cuts away the first layer of Scrap Armor! Notable applies so she continues to cut away!
Rolls: 3+3.
Anna: Seriously, Bruce, how many junkyards did you bloody bring with you this time?

Ichiro activates Rage! (Now deals and sustains double damage this round)
Arm Cannon!
Rolls: 3+2+6!
Inflicts 3 HP! The last layer of Scrap Armor has peeled away this round!
Arm Cannon was a Free Action - Ichiro Strikes!
Rolls: 5+6!
Inflicts 2+2 HP! Notable applies, Ichiro goes to town.
Rolls: 5+3!
Inflicts a further 2+2 HP!

The Steeds follow through.
Rolls: 2+6+6. 2 HP inflicted, chipping away further at the Brute!

Bruce: Right then, that's enough from you uni bastards. Ready the Flashlight!
Wallace: That's not its' name!
The Brute readies Super Heavy Weapons Strike: Prism Array! It is targeting Ichiro!
Rolls: 4+2+6+6!
Steeds launch Flares as a Defensive Action! (Cannot take Action for Round Nine). Forces Re-Roll!
New Rolls: 3+1+6+1!
Only one success, only manages a Glancing Blow! Ichiro suffers 2 4 HP due to Rage.

How well was the Brute's super weapon installed?
Rolls: 1.
Very poorly as it turns out. Prism Array overloads! The Brute suffers 2 HP! Prism Array is disabled for the rest of combat!

Erika: Patrick! Ack-Ack if you'd please!
Excellent Help allows Erika to instantly replace Shield with Flak Cannon! Fires at Brute while it's rearing from battle damage.
Rolls: 4+4+6!
Inflicts 1 HP! First layer of Scrap Armor peeled away this round!

Westphalia has suffered enough damage that it makes a judgment call. 1-4 it flees, 5=6 it will commit more to stay and fight...
Rolls: 2.
Wallace has pulled the plug on the operation. The Brute activates Ejection Pod!
The Brute frame self-destructs!

Earth Union Victory.

Post Battle scavenging to follow in narrative posts.

So this fight went a bit differently than I expected it to. I was honestly expecting the Brute to stick it out and fight, but you were all able to get rid of its support a bit faster than I thought (and I figured just throwing some in immediately would be a bit cheap). But much like capital ships without escorts, super heavies go down pretty quickly, and Ichiro with Rage + Arm Cannon can inflict a LOT of damage

Also, for reference: Yes, that was a Super Heavy Weapon. No, it wasn't well optimized by Westphalia. But they have the ideas for one now. I'll give you all a few guesses where they got the idea/equipment for it from.
